On my Evo LTE, the front facing camera takes photos with a strong red tint. When I change from Auto white balance to something like incandescent, it is better, but has a slight blue tint. It does this whether we are indoors or outdoors. My wife and I were trying to use my new phone to take some pics of us sitting outside, and we ended up having to use her Evo 3d. The back camera is perfect, and does not have this issue. I may run to a Sprint store and compare mine to one they have on display. Just curious if anyone else has noticed this.
Anyone? I tried another camera app and had the same severe red tint.

Can you drop down the saturation a notch or two? Doing that for the back camera solved all of my red-tint issues and photos look amazing now. HTC should adjust the default.
EDIT: Saturation -1 is what my camera is set to and photos look great, both front and back.
The problem though is the regular camera looks perfect. No red tint at all. Even when I drop the saturation down, the front camera still has a red tint. I have a feeling I have a bad phone.

Mine is has an orange/red tint that comes and goes....are you fully stock?
I'm rooted, but haven't installed any custom Roms. It did this before root. I just hate to have my phone replaced a second time (first one had dead pixels).
EDIT: I had thought it did this before root, but evidently it did not.

Having this issue too. Wasn't always like this.
Edit: Question. Did you edit your build.prop to get Google Wallet working?
I just noticed this red tint today only on the forward facing camera. And I just modified the build.prop today for the google wallet fix. Gonna play with putting that back to test.
Edit: yup. Putting the stock build.prop back in place, and forward facing camera is back to normal.
Does anyone know why build.prop effects this?
Its the saturation on the front camera. Turn it down 1 and it will help the red tint immensely.

This completely fixed my problem!!!! Yes, I had edited my build.prop to fix Google Wallet and completely forgot about it. I changed it back and BAM (after rebooting)! If I could thank you twice for this I would. Thanks man! Now I am off to go kick myself. I really hate when I cause my own problems LOL! Well, maybe this thread will at least help one other person with this issue. If so, then it wasn't all in vain.
Edit: Thinking back on this, I thought the problem happened before I rooted, but I guess I was wrong since it is working now.

No. I am back to getting the error that the device is not supported. I know that in one of the Wallet workaround threads they say how to change your build.prop back without affecting this, but not sure if that really works or not. I am just going to wait for the official fix on it I think.
In case you guys haven't SEEN THIS yet. You can restore your build.prop back to stock.
I am having this problem now. Running Viper, with enoch kernel. I never modified the build.prop file though. I am guessing it was pre modified or the kernel may be the issue. What settings did you change in build.prop?
Edit: disregard, the edits are the ro device names. Fairly easy and works

Okay, so, I just noticed today that my camera no longer works. It was working a few days ago, but, no... death. Did some skulking around XDA and other forums. I thought it MIGHT be caused by something going wrong when I flashed Passion v6.5... so, I reflashed Passion v4 (it used to work fine), nothing. ODIN back to stock... nothing. Are there any other tips out there besides the obvious, and fatal, hardware issue? It would be a ton of help. Thanks.
Try using a differnt camera. There is one in the market today for .10cents
Camera ZOOM FX
For a dime it might provide a solution to your needs or an enlightenment that it may in fact be a hardware issue.
Exactly how is the camera not working? F/c? Doesn't open..etc.? When you flashed did you factory reset, clear cache and data? Have you tried using a camera app?
Same thing happened to me a while back, tried replacing the camera, still didn't work. I:
/notaproblemwithicspassion.
Stuff I've tried;
- I had two Vibrants, tried replacing it. (Worked for a little, then same error.)
- Mounting and unmounting it.
- Flash back to stock, update camera.
- Different camera apps.
- CM7/MIUI/ICS/FROYO
Unfortunately there is not a lot of options. If you can find someonw with a bricked vibrant you could offer to buy the camera. If you get o replacement camera off ebay then more then likely your going to have some banding issues( lines thru your pictures). There is a website (mobiletechvideos.com) that sells replacement cameras that arent supposed to have banding issues. Ive never dealt with them, so I cant say for sure. Mine stopped workin a while back, kept saying "camera fail". I replaced it with one off ebay. It works but i have terrible banding in anything but bright light. There are some videos on you tube on how to replace the camera. Good luck!

So you bought one off ebay and it's working. (Sort of?)
Mind linking me to where you bought it?
I'll link later when I get to my pc. I just typed samsung vibrant replacement camera into ebay. After I replaced it it worked for a day then it's got the camera fail message. Then about 2weeks went by and it started working again. I have no idea why.

There are a number of reasons why this information isn't available. The most common reason is that item details for purchases are not kept for more than 90 days.
Hm.. heh.
For those asking, when the camera is opened, all it says is 'Warning: Camera Failed'. I've come to the conclusion that it's a software issue somewhere. After starting this thread, the camera came back to life a few hours later. After flashing a new ROM, same thing. I'm going to see if I can isolate a fix.
I have to bang my camera on a hard surface like furniture or a rock and it works. Could be both.

Maybe you guys should try to use titanium backup to clear the data and uninstall the camera apk. Then, odin back to stock. Be sure to wipe both caches and factory reset before flashing another rom.

Hello everyone,
My first thread here. I wanted to get you guys feedback on a problem I'm having with autofocus on the camera of my Evo 4G LTE. It seems like more than half the time I'm trying to take a picture the autofocus is going crazy and won't focus at all and leaves me with a blurry unfocused screen and he only way to get it to focus is for me to close the camera app and reopen it. I haven't found a way to turn off continuous autofocus. I was wondering if any of you had this problem with the camera or was it just me? If so what workarounds have you tried?
I've tried clearing the camera app data but that really did nothing for me. Any suggests would be nice, thanks!
I do not have this issue. Ive had to fight with it on rare occasion but thats just when it was focusing on something far away when i was trying to get a close up shot. im sure theres a way.

I had the same problem with my pre order phone. Returned it to best buy and got a new one with a flickering screen. Lol when I went to best buy I told the guy I was having problems with it he said with what the non focusing camera the flickering screen or the red pictures. That's pretty bad when they already know what the problems are a couple weeks after pre orders went out. I posted a YouTube video with the focus screwing up but I can't post a link to it yet.

If will focus lock if you're holding the camera button in the focus detent. I tested this myself, stuck it close to my keyboard and let it focus, then moved to focus on my TV, and then back to my keyboard and held the button in focus for a second or two while moving back to my TV and it didn't focus when I released the button till I went and pointed it at my keyboard again, then it started focusing again, and it focused on my TV after that.
BTW, what hardware revision is your phone? Mine is 003.
My wife's release date phone had this issue. If you focus on something close it wont refocus at any other focus length. I ended up returning it for a NIB one and never saw the issue again.
No it didn't matter what you did once it locked in it wouldn't auto focus at all unless you backed out and then back in. I don't know what rev it was since it was taken back to best buy about a week after I got it. I even tried other camera apps and it did the same thing. Even the autofocus clicking sound was a substantial popping sound. It was louder than the phone I have now.

Also i Just tested the holding down the detent to hold the focus. It didn't work for me as soon as I moved it refocused.

I just tap on the screen to refocus if I have a problem (area I want in focus).
Seems like the focus works half the time, the other half it just sits there blurry and won't focus no matter if I try click on the screen somewhere or take a picture. The only way I've been getting it to focus is by reopening the camera app and sometimes even that doesn't work. I think I'm going to exchange it tomorrow.

I bought the phone on July 1st from Best Buy and it's still under the 30day warranty.
Would you guys characterize the issue like this to some extent?

I went and traded in my old one today. Thankfully it went smoothly and I got one without the update! So far the autofocus on this one works perfectly. Will keep you all updated.
good luck ^
I'm considering taking mine into a Sprint store to have them look at it. I dont have TEP, I'm outside of my 30 day window, rooted, and S-Off.
I wonder if they're going to give me a hard time.
Curious to know how many other people are having issues with their proximity sensor while using a AOSP rom. I have been using Antp's "le n00b" (lol) AOSP CM9 Kang and have been having issues with my device locking up during calls. So I started to investigate more into the problem and have tried multiple fixes, nothing seems to work. I've took it a step forward just to determine whether my proximity sensor has just recently gone bad. I restored my backup of Venom and walaa, my sensor is working normally. No lockups, or any misbehaving. Only thing I find weird is some people have the issue, and some don't. Many factors come into this, I know... But my screen would only lock up if I was in a room with dim lighting. When I was outside in the sun, worked smooth. Would really like some feedback on this if you guys don't mind. Thanks!

I've got this problem too. I don't have to be in the middle of a call for my phone to freeze though. I checked with the Android Sensor app and it doesn't toggle between 0 and 9 (cm? I don't have my phone on me right now) like someone else reported. I have to turn off the screen (which takes a few seconds after pushing the power button), and then when I turn it back on the phone works normally.
Another detail I found though is that even though the display "freezes", it still accepts input. If the screen freezes, and then I press the home button, when I turn the screen off and then back on, I'll be on my home screen. Not in the app that I had running. Same with the other cap buttons, keyboard, on-screen buttons. If it was an issue with the proximity sensor, I would think the screen would just turn off and not accept input, right?
The ROM isn't at fault here, it is a hardware issue of the sensor getting dust in it. Simple as that.
Yeah, it's not Rom related. It's definitely a hardware issue and if your still under warranty I would take action ASAP. My replacement should be here tomorrow so crossing my fingers its problem free.

Well it may not be ROM related, sure. But I don't think it's a physical problem with the hardware either. luis, you said yourself when you restored back to Venom your 'sensor is working normally' and you had no hiccups. I didn't have the problem under CleanROM DE either.
Maybe the problem is in dmeadow's kernel. It is beta after all

It's happening on Venom for me now. Only difference is I can hit power button to get my screen back.

Ah, damn. Alright, maybe it was just an unfortunate coincidence that the timing for when this started happening matched up with when I started flashing the newer ROMs/kernels.
Different ROMs detect it differently. It IS a hardware issue.
Found out how to disable the sensor completely. Testing it out now. So far so good.
Edit: Sensor disabled and sticks after reboot. If anyone with sensor issues wants this mod, pm me. I want someone else to test this out.

The proximity sensor in this phone is a problem. Mine wasn't working at all, so I got a replacement. Got it and set it up yesterday and this one works....kinda. It works mostly correctly in bright light..outdoors, in an office, etc. It doesn't work correctly in low light...at night, in my house, etc. However, I can make it work temporarily by rubbing my thumb across the top of the phone over the Verizon logo for a few seconds. That will make it work for between 10 seconds and a minute or so. It seems to be IR/heat related, as even in bright light it sometimes needs help. I think I might just going to disable this one and deal with it.

Yeah, these sensors are horrible. Its not a show stopper, but it does suck to have these issues with a device we paid good money for.
Sent from my Xoom using xda app-developers app
Question to those who have done it, how far do you have to tear down the device to get to the sensors? Are they attached to the motherboard or are they in the display? The guides and videos I've seen revolved around replacing the display/digitizer, and I haven't been able to tell exactly where the sensors live.
Sorry luis! I went to sleep between my post and your post so didn't test last night. I'll flash it right now and get back to you on whether my display freezes anymore while I'm out today.
---------- Post added at 10:40 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:26 AM ----------
I had my first freeze up already. I checked with the Android Sensor Box app and the proximity sensor is still registering values (0 cm if I cover it, or 9 cm if I don't, no in between).
So I don't know when this issue started, but my camera tends to be blurry. A LOT. I've noticed the issue usually occurs when trying to take a picture/video in low-light conditions. Trying to focus it doesn't help at all. The only thing that seems to (temporarily) fix it is to get out of the camera app, kill the camera via task manager, and start the app again. I think the problem lies within the actual phone, since it occurs on all ROMs, but I'm not sure. What do you guys think.? Have any of you guys experienced this problem as well.?

But I don't know how to root a phone or do all the stuff that people talk about on this forum site. Is there anything else I can do, or would the ppl at the actual Sprint store know how to get the camera to take better pics without me having to go in and change a bunch of settings every time?

I recently replaced my broken dev edition (camera was broken- it rattled whenever the phone vibrated) with a T-Mobile edition. I am on complete stock and have not yet unlocked the bootloader. Ive noticed that the camera clicks whenever I launch an app that uses it. Sometimes its a very soft click, and other times its a extremely loud clock, kind of like a snapping noise. I did not see this issue on my dev edition, so I am not entirely sure whether it should be there and because my camera was broken before I didnt hear it, or if I got another faulty device. Does anyone else hear/notice this on their device? Is it maybe fixed in later firmware versions, and only and issue on 1.27.x roms? Thanks in advance.
