haha, i'm still a little sore about that damn instinct as well. I couldn't wait to get rid of that pos and swore never a samsung again. But, then the nexus s came to sprint and I thought it would be different because it was a reference device, but the radios were complete garbage. That is pretty much why I pulled the trigger on the evo and snubbed the sIII. It does look nice and I'm sure most of them wont catch fire, but I just couldn't buy another samsung.
**** happens. Although, I prefer HTC myself as well -- my experiences have been mostly good with Samsung devices. I had The NS4G, E4GT and still have the GT 10.1 (SOURCE PLS, SO WE CAN HAVE WORKING CAMERAS ON ICS!).
My experience with HTC devices goes back to WINMO (def not all good).

I had a Moment, I think that's enough to make anyone never want a POS Samsung again.
That's what you get for mixing electronic parts and Shi**y plastic.
I had the s30 ..damn resistive screen ..at least the navigation worked ok for the time
I would defiantly never buy from this company again

Samsung usually has been good on the hardware its software that's always been their weak point. I want to know what kind of charger this person was using more than anything.

While it's fun to hate on Samsung because we own an HTC device, truth is, chances are he was using a defective charger from China that he bought for $.01 + $3 shipping.

i was starting about my charger but it was $3 and .01 to ship it so i think I'll be fine.. And about phones, i started with the ppc6700(crappy) went to the mogul (slightly less crappy) touch pro (absolute ****) got the free upgrade to the tp2 and traded it immediately for the moment..then epic then ns4g. I will never get another Samsung. no support, smaller dev community (less real world support). HTC has always had the best devs, who else would have invented xda-developers!

Anyways, the two phones practically go toe to toe in performance, Touchwiz is ugly, the camera is better, and the aesthetics are better for the LTEVO

We reactivated mine for my 6 year old sister for emergencies only. I tried playing with it...had to like stab the screen to get it to work at all. Dumbphone is smartphone clothing.
All the Samsucky fan boys have already up in arms w Endgaget because of the review and now this ! Oh boy some people must have bursted into flames at home.
After owning a Samsung Epix for about 3 months, and subsequently smashing it with a sledge hammer out of rage, I will NEVER buy another Samsuck device again.
The OG Epic ruined it for me. First and last samsung device unless they pull out a miracle piece of hardware that HTC doesn't. Same with LG, I'll never buy their garbage again after my wife went through 6 Optimus S's until we finally gave up, I bought the LTE and gave her my Photon.

I'll tell you a short story, my mom was gonna buy me a full priced phone from tmo cuz my other phone broke, I've always loved rooting and roms and whatnot. I was looking at the sensation roms, and I decided that was the phone I would get. When I got to tmo, I saw the amaze, and I loved it, so I went with it, hoping the community for it would be as big as the sensation one is.

My brother had the galaxy s 4g and now has the galaxy s2, they feel So light, cheap and plastic-e. Like, it drives me insane. I'm probably being anal about it but still. Also that horrid touchwiz. Yes you can download launchers but you can never really get rid of it.

My coworker got the vibrant same time I got the mt4g. Case closed. Cheap build quality, overrated screen, touchwhiz, and just not as solid as HTC imo.
Dev community has VERY LITTLE to do with phone quality. MOTO Cliq XT has more dev than Amaze... Means nothing.
It's a personal preference debate though. I haven't seeen a Samsung phone that I was wow'd by since their t809 lol
Love their TVs though
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using xda premium
Ya it is personel preference cause some people say they prefer light weight and touchwiz over sense. I admit the build quality of previous Samsung phones are not that great but the galaxy nexus feels solid.
The galaxy nexus gsm version is still available for same price, incase some missed it from daily steals. Its the docomo japan version though, however tmobile 4g works on it as it has 1700 band.
Code:

The only reason for me, if I goto to samsung side is better battery life because of samoled screen. Amaze eats up battery like anything when display is on, and I'm guessing its the same for it also because of its 720p screen.
Yes it does have ICS now but once amaze gets ICS (which it will sooner or later), Amaze will become the better phone due to its higher network speed and better camera...
So I would be basically be paying almost 500 for an OS that can be flashed to my phone for free in a few months lol I think the amaze is way better phone but I'm getting really impatient with this ICS update lol

I can't believe all this Samsung hate haha, after the Amaze, I'm never buying another HTC phone. The build quality is nice but I don't like to be carrying a brick around. Also, if the phone ever drops, it's almost a guaranteed dent on the heavy metal body as opposed to light flexible plastic absorbing the shock. I also can't stand HTC claiming to be dev friendly when they lock their bootloaders and won't even release WiFi drivers for the Amaze - this is probably my biggest turnoff. I still love the HTC Amaze, but Samsung suits my preferences more.

+1 my vibrant slipped out of my hand 3 times and fell on the floor but not a dent or scratch. My friend and me were debating between his iphone and my vibrant and I accidently brought up how the vibrant's screen is scratchproof so he took his key out and scratched my phone but there was no scratch at all
I've dropped my G2 about 10 Times, not a single dent or scratch (just the back cover because it peels after a period of time, not caused by dropping) my friends galaxy s2 (ATT version) after three weeks, dropped it once and got 3 small scuffs on the right hand corner (near power button). Now I could only imagine dropping it 9 more times. =\

I think it all depends on the drop circumstances, one drop from shoulder height can devastate your phone more than 10 drops from waist height... There's also drop angle too, but in general, I think light plastic would be able to take more abuse than a heavier and more rigit material

dood, phone has been discontinued by tmo, it's not got much life in it. I just happens to be one of the 2 soon to be 3 available hspa+ 42mbps devices! once the s drops you can expect more price drops on the Amaze.
The phone may be going EOL but it's probably their best phone and is still comparable to the new One S. Also those ads are completely one sided, note that they are using an iPhone for Sprint which is only a 3G phone. I used to be on Sprint before switching to T-Mobile and their 4G service was decently quick... if you could get it.

My friend up here has an EVO3D and never switches 4G ON. I asked him why and he said "by the time it even connects or finds 4G signal, the web pages could already have been loaded on 3G"
Don't know how accurate that is but Idk why it would take so long to connect.

That would only be the case if you switch it on to check one page then shut it back off again. It does take about 30 seconds or so to connect to 4g, much like it does to connect to WiFi. Personally that sounds like a dumb excuse to not use 4g. We don't have 4g here but if we did, I'd likely leave it on all the time since my phone is near a charger all day anyways.

I am very interested in it, Asus is one of my favorite companys specially for gaming, i love their ROG series. i have the Asus G74 laptop right now and plan on getting the Asus Tytan.
Note that its never good to get any phone when its just released. i wait a few months for all the problems (if it has any) to be fixed and development to start and prices to drop. while the samsung galaxy ii already been out for quite a while.
according to this site it wont be too much more than the one s: http://news.softpedia.com/news/Asus...mer-Pad-300-Get-Priced-in-Europe-264743.shtml
only $15 more for just the phone. i will wait till the price is around $400 on ebay then ill buy it in a heartbeat
edit: look at their website now. they updated the information about it. http://www.asus.com/Mobile/PadFone/ you can get 102 hours of battery from padfone (the phone), the station (tablet), and the station dock (keyboard). they all use the hardware of the padfone (cpu/gpu/ram/camera), but they all have their own battery. also its all one data package (from the phone). this is going to get huge IMO.
the camera should be better than the amaze as well, has the same aperture, but a better lense made my asus.
If you wanted to buy a different sprint phone today without committing to a new contract, I would argue that there is no phone better at this price point. The fact that this phone can be purchased used on craigslist for $100, rooted and rommed up with just a minimal amount of hassles is mindboggling. If someone can show me a better deal please do.

You're joking, right?
1) Out of nowhere you compared the two phones.
2) The galaxy s3 is better than the evo 3d. What you said is like saying the Xbox 360 is better than the ps4. The ps4 will come out later with next Gen hardware. The galaxy s3 will come out later with next Gen hardware.
3) The s3 is a copy of the iPhone? Is that a joke? Just because they have a hardware home button doesn't suddenly make them iPhone clones. Other than that, they are probably the complete opposite of iPhones.

IMHO Samsung makes great appliances(home electronics, washers, dryers, etc.) Their cellular phones don't do anything for me and as a previous user stated, the build quality is less than impressive. The screens always have that weird hue to them prolly due to AMOLED which i dont find appealing. And the samsung phones i've played with or friends that have them seem to have lots of issues with signal retention. Lets not forget the countless GPS problems that have been complained about on many occasions.

I'm a Galaxy Nexus guy myself. my sister is on AT&T and asked me to recommend a phone. i am trying to keep the price down to the $100 mark. i saw this phone for $100 on contract. i loved my OG EVO and spec'ing this phone against the SGS3 it looks like a win for HTC, plus, the HTC model is newer and Sense IMO is better than TW. i've been out of the loop with HTC progress for a while and just wondered if you were generally pleased with your phone and would recommend it to a family member. this phone will likely never be rooted so the prospect of future (Official OTA) support is pretty important, i know you'd be guessing on that factor...

Phone will eventually get Sense 5.0 from HTC, so updates shouldn't be an issue.
depends, how much do you love your sister?

I'm sure it's by far the best $100 device available on AT&T right now. I paid $200 and think it's a great device.

I never reccomend anything to anyone because that somehow activates some unspoken agreement that you are now their official IT guy if they have any future questions.
Otherwise, I love what I've made my One X+ capable of, however, out of the box, the only thing I would warn a perspective buyer about is the somewhat dreadful battery life.
Tegra 3 is a hog is you don't underclock\ undervolt\ bring cores offline.

I would go with the S3. Besides nice hardware there's nothing spectacular about the X+. Sense is worse than TW actually, and on the X+ you're stuck with it.

Anyone read the article on the Verge about HTC? I personally a little concerned for the company, but I'm sure things can get better! I love my HTC One.
Yes really disturbing news and it seems Android=Samsung getting reality sadly. :banghead:

Yeah it is sad to see, but Samsung is a monster when it comes to marketing budgets they had a slim chance to compete. I hope they pull through and continue pushing samsung and other Android devices to their limits. I have high hopes for this company
I also worry that articles like this will only hurt... people who are on the fence will read that and go with Samsung...
Personally I think they are going in the right direction getting rid of dead weight and poor performers.

I don't see the company going down. I believe they will do fine in the long run, they're just having a bit of a rough spot.
The HTC One is selling well. From here on out they should be fine.
If not Samsung will probably buy them out and HTC can design the phone while Samsung focuses on the guts.

At least they aren't fully invested in Windows phone (to ruin them even more) like some other great phone company we all know

I'm betting it's their crappy CEO. He needs to go, now.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves, I'd get the lumia 925 or 928 if it had android, 920 is too much of a brick.

Agreed. I've always had good experiences with call and signal quality with Nokia, from the 6820 and other TDMA phones back in the late 90s and early 00s to the Symbian-based stuff from a while back. If they put some quality Android-based phones together and offered them with a decent custom interface (like Sense) and unlocked, I think they'd make a pretty strong showing.

Ha, I have its big brother the Nokia 6800. That's not a typo, I still have it right here on my desk
I couldn't help but thinking that I have this power to kill phone manufacturers.
My first cell phone back in the mid 90s was the Siemens S3+ and then briefly the S4 (I bet not a lot of people here even know that Siemens used to make cell phones).
After that, I had a couple of Ericsson phones, the GH 337 and the GF 788 (you know how that story ends, they were swallowed by Sony, and then dumped).
Right after that, I became a huge Nokia + Symbian fanboy, the 6800, 6620, N80, E51, E63, E75 (and look at what happened to Nokia and Symbian).
Then three years ago I bought a Dell Streak (the first android phone with 5" screen that nobody really knows about. the following year, Dell stopped making phones).
Finally last week I got myself an HTC One. Look out HTC!!

I mostly agree with your statement, but I believe it will take more than one flagship to get them turned around and charging towards the front. Maybe after 1 or 2 more flagship they will really be doing well. I just can't see one phone having enough time to turn an entire company around. Especially after they bombed out hard with the HTC First. That was a huge mistake for them to try and even sell that phone.

It means that there will be a vanilla htc one or one like device and because of that the devs will (hopefully) be able to make aosp/aokp roms with very few to no bugs at all. Basically it's makes the job easier for the devs and the experience better for us.

Ever since I switched to Android, all I had were Samsungs...this is my first HTC android device and Im loving it so far. So to read articles about HTC and the tough times they're having is saddening. Samsung is the Apple of androids...the galaxy line is well known which is both bad and good. I really hope the HTC One can and will save this company because we need beautiful phones in the variety of androids. I like having choices!

Idk about all of you but I see a heck of a lot of S4s on Craigslist and not too many HTC Ones. Craigslist has been a great indicator for me in the past. I got this one for a note 2 and am glad I got out of Samsung when it is where I believe is at the top before a fall.
