Last night my inner nerd almost gave in >.< pretty good price, For one day only though. It would have been awesome to hav both the glorious amaze and galaxy nexus. I decided to keep my money and just wait for the nexus tablet or the rumoured G4X. Are any of you guys Device junkies?

I'll tell you a short story, my mom was gonna buy me a full priced phone from tmo cuz my other phone broke, I've always loved rooting and roms and whatnot. I was looking at the sensation roms, and I decided that was the phone I would get. When I got to tmo, I saw the amaze, and I loved it, so I went with it, hoping the community for it would be as big as the sensation one is.

I actually bought mine on contract...I saw reviews online and everyone seemed blown away by the build quality. When to tmobile a week later. EASILY my favorite phone I've ever owned. Although I am a.flashaholic, I normally flash roms every few days (on my G2) now I been on bulletproof for a few weeks. Big change lol

My brother had the galaxy s 4g and now has the galaxy s2, they feel So light, cheap and plastic-e. Like, it drives me insane. I'm probably being anal about it but still. Also that horrid touchwiz. Yes you can download launchers but you can never really get rid of it.

My coworker got the vibrant same time I got the mt4g. Case closed. Cheap build quality, overrated screen, touchwhiz, and just not as solid as HTC imo.
Dev community has VERY LITTLE to do with phone quality. MOTO Cliq XT has more dev than Amaze... Means nothing.
It's a personal preference debate though. I haven't seeen a Samsung phone that I was wow'd by since their t809 lol
Love their TVs though
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using xda premium
Ya it is personel preference cause some people say they prefer light weight and touchwiz over sense. I admit the build quality of previous Samsung phones are not that great but the galaxy nexus feels solid.
The galaxy nexus gsm version is still available for same price, incase some missed it from daily steals. Its the docomo japan version though, however tmobile 4g works on it as it has 1700 band.

The only reason for me, if I goto to samsung side is better battery life because of samoled screen. Amaze eats up battery like anything when display is on, and I'm guessing its the same for it also because of its 720p screen.
Yes it does have ICS now but once amaze gets ICS (which it will sooner or later), Amaze will become the better phone due to its higher network speed and better camera...
So I would be basically be paying almost 500 for an OS that can be flashed to my phone for free in a few months lol I think the amaze is way better phone but I'm getting really impatient with this ICS update lol

I can't believe all this Samsung hate haha, after the Amaze, I'm never buying another HTC phone. The build quality is nice but I don't like to be carrying a brick around. Also, if the phone ever drops, it's almost a guaranteed dent on the heavy metal body as opposed to light flexible plastic absorbing the shock. I also can't stand HTC claiming to be dev friendly when they lock their bootloaders and won't even release WiFi drivers for the Amaze - this is probably my biggest turnoff. I still love the HTC Amaze, but Samsung suits my preferences more.

+1 my vibrant slipped out of my hand 3 times and fell on the floor but not a dent or scratch. My friend and me were debating between his iphone and my vibrant and I accidently brought up how the vibrant's screen is scratchproof so he took his key out and scratched my phone but there was no scratch at all
I've dropped my G2 about 10 Times, not a single dent or scratch (just the back cover because it peels after a period of time, not caused by dropping) my friends galaxy s2 (ATT version) after three weeks, dropped it once and got 3 small scuffs on the right hand corner (near power button). Now I could only imagine dropping it 9 more times. =\

I think it all depends on the drop circumstances, one drop from shoulder height can devastate your phone more than 10 drops from waist height... There's also drop angle too, but in general, I think light plastic would be able to take more abuse than a heavier and more rigit material

Anyone returning their G2 for this?
I am really thinking bout waiting it out-- the gpu on that beast is 50% faster.
It'll take a few months (4-7 months(?)) for AT&T to get this phone.. unless you plan on buying it unlocked/international
I've spent way too long waiting for my GS2. I'll be keeping it for at least a year if not 18 months until my next upgrade. The Prime looks awesome but at some point you have to just enjoy what ya got... for a little while at least.
Nope. Quite happy with this little awesome monster.

depends on how soon it comes out for ATT. if it comes out before Nov. 2nd i'll be the first in line to do an exchange.
Not sure how the curve screen will work on flat surface, like lay flat on top of table.
Also, i think 4.65" might be a little too big, lol!

been trying as hard as i can not go to get the SGS II with my upgrade and hand my infuse down to my wife before tuesday, when the prime is finally unveiled...
but if it's gonna be on verizon, i might as well go get the SGS II first thing tomorrow.
Yea, looks like vz exclusive.. I bought the gsII already but i still have still the 3rd of Nov to return it-- so we will see.
Kind of odd of Samsung to release something so much more powerful than the sgsII when the SGSII was just released a week ago.
This phone has all the power you could need plus that screen is way too big...imo
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using xda premium
If it's compatible with AT&T and I like it enough I'll buy it unlocked, like I did with the Nexus One. I'll probably give the Galaxy S2 to my wife or keep it myself for fun. :3
I don't like the way it curves...
Infuse is already too big. Can't see a 4.65" phone being very usable.
Sent from my SGH-I997 using xda premium
You guys have to remember that the screen may be 4.6", but there won't be any capacitive buttons; all screen and minimal bezel (according to rumors, and how ICS is supposedly programmed). So the actual phone may not be that much larger than the SGSII. Which imho, is awesome: Large screen with minimal increase in phone size; best of both worlds.
There's nothing on the Prime that would entice me to return my SGSII for it. If I didn't already have my
SGSII this would most likely be a different story, but the bigger screen wouldn't sell me on it as its perfect already on the SGSII, IMO. The battery, however, if it were to truly be 2000mah or above probably would.

Well its only the USA that got the sgs2 late. Its been out around for a while now.
Im opting for the prime as it has a bigger screen. My first android phone was the dell streak5.
And i love the big screen. I was actually hoping for the galaxy note but i dont knw when that will come out
Guys, the screen is the same size as the sgs2. Measure sgs2 with the buttons and you get 4.6.

if the leaked specs are somewhat true, it is one hell of a beast. 720p res vs 800x480? stock ICS?
If the rumor of a dual-radio gsm and cdma is true, I am for sure buying one to use on ATT
Not to remind you but it is a NEXUS device - updates will be out as soon as they are available. With the SGS2, you will be waiting months before Samsung gets around to doing it - if it ever happens.
Maybe...

Hi
Well I was wondering since I'm about ready for my Tmobile phone upgrade, I wanted to know if the amaze 4G is a good phone to have. I'm currently using the HTC Wildfire S and I want to get it out of my sight. Please comment if this is a good idea to get this phone before I upgrade. Thanks
Since you're so close to your upgrade you might want to wait for the One S.
If you can handle not being able to have a spare battery and SD card. You do get a s4 processor which should get better battery life and perform better also.

Yes but it's gonna be too expensive from the look of it. Also since the one s is going out, there is a good chance of the amaze prices to drop dramatically.
Well I just bought an amaze today, have to wait for it to come. Im not on post-paid and I don't feel like dropping $700 on a phone for he One S.
I probably would've waited if I had a contract. The Amaze is great so I hear.. will know in a few days.
I think its really down to your personal preference, an little older CPU with a SD card and spare batteries. Or a new CPU with no spare battery and 16gb locked.
I was tempted to wait, but ended with the Amaze.

I just brought my third amaze yesterday. Now my wife, daughter and I have one. Looked at a couple other options and weighing the pros and cons, the amaze came out on top, again

Amaze Hands down! i was considering Galaxy SII X but Amaze has better resolution, beter cameras (Front and back) even though its heavier imo it has a 'nicer' design. The cons are as follows:
-Weight
-Lack of Rom Development (We havent achieved S-OFF, and WIFI Drivers are a problem so i read)
-Screen Bleed at the capacitive buttons at the problem ... not a big deal its just at the bottom it will look brighter.)
-battery might suck on stock. For me im running stock and i get full 24 hour usage (phone calls, texting, tweeting, facebooking, browsing, music)
Pros: everything else

So how much did each of you pay when you first got it from tmobile?
i bought mine out right bnib for 380$
bought mine from a guy on xda for $360 with box in new condition. only thing messed up is the vibration (it rattles). that's it though
I don't regret buying it at all, I like the heft to it. it makes it feel expensive. the only other phone I wish I would have waited for is the xperia s which isn't much of a upgrade. considering it has the same processor and same amount of RAM, only huge plus is that its playstation certified and the design.

haha, i'm still a little sore about that damn instinct as well. I couldn't wait to get rid of that pos and swore never a samsung again. But, then the nexus s came to sprint and I thought it would be different because it was a reference device, but the radios were complete garbage. That is pretty much why I pulled the trigger on the evo and snubbed the sIII. It does look nice and I'm sure most of them wont catch fire, but I just couldn't buy another samsung.

We reactivated mine for my 6 year old sister for emergencies only. I tried playing with it...had to like stab the screen to get it to work at all. Dumbphone is smartphone clothing.
All the Samsucky fan boys have already up in arms w Endgaget because of the review and now this ! Oh boy some people must have bursted into flames at home.
After owning a Samsung Epix for about 3 months, and subsequently smashing it with a sledge hammer out of rage, I will NEVER buy another Samsuck device again.
The OG Epic ruined it for me. First and last samsung device unless they pull out a miracle piece of hardware that HTC doesn't. Same with LG, I'll never buy their garbage again after my wife went through 6 Optimus S's until we finally gave up, I bought the LTE and gave her my Photon.
Hello,
I recently switched to tmobile and am looking to buy a phone to use. I've been looking at HTC Sensation, HTC Amaze, and Galaxy S2. I was thinking to go with HTC Amaze, but I ran into many issues discussed on the net. So, here's my question. Should I buy this phone? Are the issues that bad? Or, can they be resolved by simply installing custom ROMs? I'd appreciate any advice you can give me. Thank you.
GT
I dealt with all 3 of them. GS2 is a POS. Sensation is has older harder (but better ROM development) and i love my Amaze. Does all I need it to do. You should get an Amaze.
Agreed with hasoon

Although I love my Amaze its getting to the point where its becoming outdated and unsupported. I would go another route. IMHO.
Depends what you are looking for...
Pros:
- Decent Specs.
- Nice camera.
- microSD.
Cons:
- Due to HTC and the lack of source ROM dev isn't as plentiful as other phones.
- Issues with the back plate not fitting right and making creaking noises.
- Larger device (thickness).
- Sense (for me at least).
- Horrible backlight bleed from the buttons.
- Lackluster battery life.
If I was to go back in time, I would have picked up a Galaxy Nexus over the Amaze.
I was choosing among those phones too (including the blaze). Chose the amaze because it's screen was way better than Samsung crappy pentile offerings and it had a dedicated camera button. Battery life is pretty mediocre even with an anker extended battery. Battery life is a huge weakness since HTC refuses to release wireless source.

What's even worse is how quickly their products recently have declined in resale value, minus the sensation for whatever frigging reason... Anything else, heck even the one s price is almost half of the s3 at this point... That's bad news

After selling my Amaze and having the S3 for about a month. I am starting to miss my amaze. Here are the reasons why:
I miss the fact that it was more sturdy. I dropped my Amaze many times, and never cracked the screen, but I dropped the S3 once, and the screen cracked.
Also even if I did crack the amaze screen, It would only have to spend $70-100 to fix it (compared to $250-300 on the S3).
Comparing the speed, the S3 is faster, but it's not major fast over the amaze. I think the Amaze was just enough for me as speed.
The amaze is a rare phone, but I like that. I like to be different from everyone else. But it's hard to be different when everyone and their mother (literally) has an S3. I'm just getting tired of looking at them. I like having a iPhone if you have an S3.
Last and not least...The Camera. Believe it or not, the Amaze camera is still a tad better than the S3s , and I miss my dedicated camera buttons.
I also saw yesterday that CM10 is coming along great, and the drivers have just been released. So I am going to give my S3 to my girlfriend for her Amaze (as an early birthday gift). I actually cannot wait to come back into the Amaze development. I kinda miss HTC sense, and HBoot lol
I clicked the thanks button by mistake but i got to say i was gonna switch to an s3 and ill still get it or wait for the next galaxy s or a better htc phone... I also think that the s3 camera is still a little lower than the amazes since i compared it to my brothers s3 but i got to say the screen looked great and size felt good on my hand....
Over all the amaze was the first big thing then they killed it with the crappy htc one s for us T-Mobile users they shouldve made it more similar to the one x
"HTC Amaze - Nightmare Sense 1.6"
"HTC Sensation - MIUI"
"LG G2x - Stock and overclocked"
"LG Thrill - Slim Stock Rom"
I was gonna switch to the nexus 4 , but the default launcher/out of the box is too boring for me... I prefer Sense, TouchWiz, stuff like that.
but glad you're coming back!
And did you know that they took the HTC Amaze off of the T-mobile web-site o:

You are aware that there are launchers and CM themes that recreate the experience, right? Also, look into how to sort of recreate the experience yourself or make the screen look like what you want.
I'M OFFICALLY BACK!! I just score a Perfect Condition Amaze for $100 (it was a insurance replacement). I bought it with no battery or cover. I took my girlfriend's extra battery she had, and I just ordered a white battery cover for $7 off ebay (surprised they are so cheap, due to all those antennas arrays in there). So I should hopefully be fully up and running by Thrusday. Now I am going to sell my S3 with a cracked screen, and the other parts I have, and keep some cash in my pocket
Welcome back. With all the talent we have here its only a matter of time before we get cm9, cm10.1 and wificalling up and running in no time. The guys from cm10 have been doing a great job troubleshooting bug tracking and fixing cm10 for our device.

I still have my Amaze after getting the GNote and will have to agree with a lot of what you said. I like that it is different enough and haven't seen one in the part of Va I'm in, of course I can say the same about the Note. I see S3 like it's a common thing to have, like calculators in the 80s and pagers in the 90s. I love the camera and the dedicated camera button, I have to say it is better than the S3 and the GNote. As far as speed it considered I think it's a close tie between the three, put CM9/10 and they seem to run the same, throw Sense or Touchwiz on them and they have their strengths and weaknesses.
Lol

Thanks for your opinions guys. I almost bought a note 2 twice. Glade I changed my mind the last minute!

Yeah i know lol, it's just to plain for me
i can see where you're coming from but in all honesty the S3 is a better phone. the amaze did feel better in the hand but the s3 feels fine too
If only there was a Fully working sense 4 for the S3................

Sense on a Samsung device!? Wouldn't that hose up the space/time continuum or something?

Oh...shame, it really is the best Android device. I would get it, but money prohibits me, especially since i have a Nexus 7 and Galaxy Nexus already...its worth it if you can, especially since you can customize to your heart's content.

you got me thinking, if i should get it or not again lol . It is true that you can customize it, so i'll look at more reviews to see if there's isn't anything I don't like, so far there's nothing

Ohh no doubt the S3 is a better phone (faster, very nice screen), but I'm basically saying that the Amaze is just enough for me. It does everything I want. And plus the money I save from selling the S3 will go toward a nexus 7 tablet .

I LOVE my Nexus 7. Running PA 2.54 because 4.2 burns battery still a bit too much, so for now im sticking with 4.1. Seriously its so amazing. Its screen may not have the same punch as a AMOLED screen but its still damn good.

+1 for the Nexus7
