[Q] Is the amaze 4G a good phone to get? - HTC Amaze 4G

Hi
Well I was wondering since I'm about ready for my Tmobile phone upgrade, I wanted to know if the amaze 4G is a good phone to have. I'm currently using the HTC Wildfire S and I want to get it out of my sight. Please comment if this is a good idea to get this phone before I upgrade. Thanks

Since you're so close to your upgrade you might want to wait for the One S.
If you can handle not being able to have a spare battery and SD card. You do get a s4 processor which should get better battery life and perform better also.

Yes but it's gonna be too expensive from the look of it. Also since the one s is going out, there is a good chance of the amaze prices to drop dramatically.

Well I just bought an amaze today, have to wait for it to come. Im not on post-paid and I don't feel like dropping $700 on a phone for he One S.
I probably would've waited if I had a contract. The Amaze is great so I hear.. will know in a few days.
I think its really down to your personal preference, an little older CPU with a SD card and spare batteries. Or a new CPU with no spare battery and 16gb locked.
I was tempted to wait, but ended with the Amaze.

Thanks for your opinion. Looks like I'm getting an amaze

I just brought my third amaze yesterday. Now my wife, daughter and I have one. Looked at a couple other options and weighing the pros and cons, the amaze came out on top, again

Amaze Hands down! i was considering Galaxy SII X but Amaze has better resolution, beter cameras (Front and back) even though its heavier imo it has a 'nicer' design. The cons are as follows:
-Weight
-Lack of Rom Development (We havent achieved S-OFF, and WIFI Drivers are a problem so i read)
-Screen Bleed at the capacitive buttons at the problem ... not a big deal its just at the bottom it will look brighter.)
-battery might suck on stock. For me im running stock and i get full 24 hour usage (phone calls, texting, tweeting, facebooking, browsing, music)
Pros: everything else

Thanks and im getting this phone

So how much did each of you pay when you first got it from tmobile?

i bought mine out right bnib for 380$

bought mine from a guy on xda for $360 with box in new condition. only thing messed up is the vibration (it rattles). that's it though
I don't regret buying it at all, I like the heft to it. it makes it feel expensive. the only other phone I wish I would have waited for is the xperia s which isn't much of a upgrade. considering it has the same processor and same amount of RAM, only huge plus is that its playstation certified and the design.

Mine was 350 with contract but if I would've waited one more week it would've Ben free but I don't care. I love my phone

$175 with upgrade... They tried telli.g me 275, but the loyalty dept gave it to me for $175 w/ 2yr contract

Thanks you guys
So I'm probably it's gonna be $175 with a two year contract for me from Tmobile,... hopefully

im on a value plan, so i paid $625 minus $225 rebate. after tax it was like $430 or something. decent phone, lack of development knocks it down a few notches for me tho. when the s3 comes out, this phone is history

I love my amaze! Upgraded from the G2 so this phone is lighter compared to the G2. Ya support is low ATM but we have some good devs working on some AOSP ROM's. S-off is still down the road but I'm sure it will be obtained, once that happens and we have cm 9 running I'll bet people will be more interested in this device.
And I got mine for about 350 after the rebate and discount.

TB or Droid x?

My contract ends on the 2nd and I've been comitted to getting the Droid X. I wasn't aware the Thunderbolt was coming out this month. I'm on a tight budget...should I roll with the X or wait for the bolt? Also...do u have to get a 4g data plan or could you just get a 3g plan on the bolt? I am not stoked on the limited dev options with the X so I'm worried.
Thanks

Get the Thunderbolt. Trust me, it will be worth the 2-3 weeks extra wait time. Better hardware, should be good build quality since it's made mostly of aluminum, and what's not to like about faster speeds? As of now there is no information on the pricing options for 4G smartphones.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
That's the thing I don't want to wait and then get the shaft by having to get a 4G plan. I don't need or want it. I need to sell my Eris as well to be able to afford the bolt.
Sent from my FroyoEris using XDA App
I would definitely get the Thunderbolt. I also was looking for a Droid X. My friend got an EVO and I fell in love with the 4.3" screen. Then I started reading about the locked bootloader and very limited dev options for the DX. The Thunderbolt is just going to be an all around better phone, especially if you want custom roms and kernels. I wouldn't imagine the 4G plan adding more than $10 maybe $15 to your bill.
Again, I agree with Omen. If you're looking for a decent phone with many dev capabilities, this phone isn't for you. This phone is better than that; it's top notch. Get a droid incredible instead. It just dropped to $100 with 2 year contract.

No information has been sent out to third party sellers about 4G data costs. I honestly don't think it's coming out February 10, because that's when the iphone for Verizon is out......

I have the X i love the Phone but it does kinda stink that about getting custom Roms, like FULL ones with the new kernals and everything. From what i have been reading on line the 4g plan is going to be 29.99 just like 3g but you know verizon can change that any time lol The thunderbolt looks amazing is it going to have a impossible boot loader like the Motorola products have?
Talked to a VZW rep yesterday about our company phones and I wanted to also move to a new phone for myself. I asked about the TB and said I didn't want to pay extra because I don't live in an 4g area. I was told that there is no extra charge for 4g.

It is highly unlikely that it will have a locked bootloader. It would be a first for HTC to do so as far as I know.

A second considering the G2 and all that mess...
I'd go with the Thunderbolt. HTC uses better camera parts than Motorola, doesn't lock their bootloaders, 4G will be nice and shouldn't cost extra. I've had the Droid X since release and it's not been that amazing. I'm suffering (as are many others) severe reboot issues due to Moto's buggy .340 kernel and since we can't change our kernel... we have to continue to deal with this maddening problem.
I'm no longer a Motorola fan. Not to mention that HTC is usually a bit faster than Motorola on getting out updates for new software... and you'll get a front-facing camera with video chat!
I don't count Samsung phones... broken GPS and horrible software updates, plus a lack of Cyanogenmod... LG phones suck, and Motorola phones are too locked down. So, I see HTC as the only real player in the game today for quality, customizable Android phones. Plus, I like their aspect ratio for their 4.3" screens... not the widescreen size Motorola uses, which is too tall and not wide enough for me.
Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk
I'm running the. 340 update and have not had one random reboot since ice update. With liberty applied and a couple of other tweaks its a great phone (DX) but it had very limited dev support because there isn't really **** you can ultimately do with a locked bootloader, it doesn't have near the support of my fascinate, and no where the support of my DInc, but with that said, at the end of the day, I use my Droid x for one reason. Battery life. I suspect the battery life on the thunderbolt wont be as good as the x, but it had great specs a great proccessor and more RAM, IT WILL BE A AWESOME PHONE. IM SO DRUNK I DONT KNOW WHAT IM SAYING! !

Looking at the Amaze

Hello Amaze Community,
Currently running on the HTC Desire Z on the Telus network up here in Canada. Telus just got the Amaze in and I'm due in for a contract renewal. The DZ is working just perfectly, rooted, s-offed, etc, etc.. but being a total nerd, I just NEED to be on the front of technology.
Just wondering if you guys/girls would be so kind as to offer your experiences with your devices. I know quad-core phones are just around the corner, but I have this itch that needs to be scratched sooner or later. Is it worth it to renew now and get this dual-core device or, now that you have it, would you suggest waiting for the quad-core Tegra3 devices?
Opinions and Suggestions please! =)

The best thing to do is to read extensively on any purchase that is costly and watch a few video reviews so that you get an idea so that you eliminate all surprises later. Just about every question/concern you may have about this phone can be found a couple post down and on YouTube.
Edit: I would honestly wait after the first set of quadcore devices come out. I remember getting the first dualcore phone in the States (G2x) and being somewhat disappointed. Patience normally gets rewarded heavily.

Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using XDA App
My son currently has the Desire Z as well. I have had the Amaze for about 2 weeks now and I love it. I came from the Hero, so a huge difference. Love the screen size and clarity and the speed is terrific.
As for quad-core, my personal opinion is that a phone will not really benefit from a quad core vs dual core. What does a phone do that requires a quad?? Also battery life is a concern on almost all dual core phones. I can only imagine that quad core phones are going to require serious battery management, or greatly improved battery technology.
I'm sure that down the road all phones will be quads, but for now, and for the life of this contract, I doubt I will ever think "geeze, if only I had a quad core."

Yes, I believe, they have a 14 day return policy (in AZ) but it'll cost you a $50 restocking fee! At least, that's what I remember when I asked the TMO sales rep.
my 2 cents. the phone has very little dev support. s off is not here and if you root now you ruin the chances of having it later. i am coming form the Evo on sprint and will be returning back to it in a few days. I have had htc amaze twice and it is much better than the Evo but i can not make the switch form sprint until tmobile changes there plans. somehow i use 1.8 gb of data on t mobile in 5 days and on sprint i use that much a month. I dont know much about eh phone you are coming form but if the deciding factor has anything to do with roms and Dev support i would wait.

I love the Amaze. Came from G2x, and IMHO, batteries need to catch up to these phones. I can't imagine what Quad Core will do that mine can't, and by the time I do, we'll all be on to other devices.
Build quality is awesome, battery is great (running X's Beast atm) and I haven't had any big issues.
I went from a g1 to g2 to an amaze and I haven't looked back even once.
Once htc releases 4.0 we will have native dual core support and optimization.
I can't say much about quad core seeing as it is all speculation at the moment but I'm sure it will be quite some time before that technology is utilized efficiently, and I don't mean results from prototype phones or giggly manufacturers fussing about its benefits.
tldr; this phone is boss
Thanks to all for the input. By all means keep them coming. I'd rather hear about this device from front line users rather than review sites.
I dont think Telus has a grace period where I can just try the phone for a trial period. It might be something I ask about when I call in for renewal.
I've also gone from Hero to G2 and love the build quality of HTC. I'm looking at the Amaze because it seems to be the best HTC phone out there that isnt too huge. S-OFF not being achieved yet might be a turn off, but I'm sure it will come soon enough? Still have some time so I'll just keep an eye out on this thread.
Thanks.

If you buy it at Best Buy you have 14 days or 30 min talk time, no restocking fee. Just keep your talk time to a minimum the first 2 weeks and test everything else on the phone. At a telus store I was told 14 days but a $50 restocking fee.
I'm loving my amaze so far and the development is getting beefed up. We should have custom kernels soon
I've been wondering the same, I'm on att though. I have an htc vivid and really like it but couldn't resist the great looks of the amaze so I bought one from the market place here. Should get it on sat. Get it set up for att usage and see if its worth it I guess.

HTC Evo LTE trade up to HTC One only worth $100

Got that code to do the tradeup and I plugged in the info and it looks like the HTC Evo LTE is worth just $100 trade up for the HTC One, in case anyone was curious. Don't know how this can be of any benefit Would you be charged the full price of the phone or just $99 ($199- $100 trade up)? Would your contract with Sprint reset for 2 yrs when you got the phone? I'm still reading through the fine print.
Surprisingly the One X is $115 and the One S is $100. Shows you how much they don't value the Evo LTE. Even the old G1 is worth $100. Sad I tell you.

Yes. However, I bought the LTE off-contract last year, which means I have an upgrade coming up. Really don't know if I should sell the LTE and get the One or wait to see what else comes out. Hate sitting with an upgrade though.
The chipset upgrade is looking less crucial for me than back in the day, the LTE is pretty fast the way it is. So what I would be really gaining is great speaker sound, better camera (questionable), slightly better screen (but how much better is slcd2 --> slcd 3?), and Sense 5.
However, I would be losing the kickstand, dedicated camera button, menu/recent apps button, slightly smaller phone (dimension-wise, the One has more bezel, which equates to bigger phone even though they're both 4.7")
Love the chassis on the One though! But the LTE is mostly aluminum, so it doesn't make it as bad.
Can't decide!!

What do you think I did with the phone I had when I bought the LTE off-contract? It's a 3D by the way, and it's sitting in my office for this very reason
I for one am not impressed with the HTC One in regards to it really being worth an upgrade from the LTE
The 1st camera reviews that have come out so far have been beyond disappointing.
In due time a Dev will have the HTC One software running on the EVO LTE
After that, what would be a reason to upgrade if you are not eligible for a full upgrade?
I would also be highly disappointed if HTC no longer gives sprint an exclusive phone.
Thats one of the main reasons why I have chosen to remain with sprint (11 years) as I refuse to have a sprint phone that other carriers offer
because i know that phone performs better on their networks that have better LTE reception

Pretty much sums up how I feel. I may have to see what the beast Samsung has cooked up for the S4. Whichever version had the Exynos Octa is where I will be going.

That means you'll have neither phone.
Isn't the $100 normal for the trade in? I Thought most got that for the Evo 4g and a little more for the 3vo.

Exactly what the post says. All you have to do is read their post, it's perfectly clear English. If you don't speak English, Google can translate it for you.
EDIT:Not being rude, in case it came across that way. I'm just stating the obvious, at least what myself and others thought was obvious anyway....

English is the only language I speak.... I just don't understand what he meant by that last lte statement
It really doesn't make any sense to me.... Not to be rude... Lol

It made sense to me. He said he needs a reason to be on Sprint. He said his reason was the awesome exclusive phone. So if there's no excusivity (i.e. same phone on every carrier), then it doesn't make sense to him to be on Sprint, sense the signals are worse than the other big name carriers.
One big reason I'm on Sprint though is the price. I'm willing to suck up the signal quality for a lower phone bill.

Why do some think the One isn't an upgrade? It has a quad core and double the ram. Really, to me, it's a bigger upgrade from the LTE than the LTE was from the 3D (unless you actually have LTE). The 3D was a duo core just as our phone and with the same 1gb of ram. Hell, with the sense 4 ports it was a pretty spiffy handset. Coming to this phone from the Note 2, there is a definitive difference from a duo core processor to a quad core..I think sometimes (myself included) we don't see the next best thing as a justification for upgrade simply because we aren't eligible yet or can't afford it outright. Just my thoughts...

I don't trade in nothing... I sale my old phones for cash locally. Sold OG for $150 when I got 3d, sold 3d for $225 when I bought LTEVO retail etc

Also an EVO user (still use as WiFi device) and I recognize you from those forums. I highly recommend this device! Gave up my Nexus 5 for it and absolutely no regrets. IMHO, the best device currently available.

Hey thanks for recognizing.. lol. Well in all honesty I really believe all the hype about the G3, but I'm also considering the M8 cause it's closer to what I'm accustomed to. I guess I'm just hesitant to move on to something different. Also I'm concerned about the reported lag and heating up on the G3...

I still like my HTC One M8 more but I've always been an HTC fan myself
Like someone mentioned above, I was a long-time Galaxy S fan. I had every one from the Fascinate to the S4. My first LG phone was the G2, which I got on a whim because my S4 broke. Let's just say I loved the G2 so much that I HAD to get the G3.
The only downer for me is that there is no root yet, but of course that will come with time. The problems you mentioned above, I don't experience myself, but root will fix a lot of it. The dev in charge is going through some life problems atm, so we have to wait. I am definitely patient though. It's like waiting for Christmas!

Personally, I have zero heat issues but I don't game other than solitare. As far as lag goes, I'm still in disbelief because I have not experienced that either. Enable dev options, set animations to .5. I had used Nova for a week and then switched back to stock. In my opinion, lag is a myth. Possibly on the 16/2 models it may exist but this is much faster than my Nexus was.
Thanks for the feedback guys.. much appreciated. I'll let you know if I get it. (Most likely I will). Oh, another thing, is it safe to buy from either Amazon or bestbuy? Only cost 100$..

I'm actually an avid gamer. My phone gets a little warm after a while, but not warmer than what I'd expect from a 2.5ghz, 3GB RAM beast lol it's not like super hot though, like people have been saying. I have even played while the phone is charging. It doesn't get extremely hot at all. The quad HD display is absolutely beautiful for gaming and even videos, too.

I'd say it would be OK. Is it $100 with renewal of contract?

That's really up to you then. I personally hate renewing contracts lol, but I'm guessing you'll probably have to do the same for the M8?

I know this would probably require root or something but I'm curious to know if there's a way to force the G3 to stay on LTE signal??

I got mine for $100 on contract from Best Buy. No problems. It was the price that drew me in. It's pretty much impulse buy territory. I have 5 lines on the ED1500 family plan and Framily would actually cost me significantly more because everyone on the plan is a high data user. So to me, if I'm happy with the service and don't plan on leaving, what sense does it make to switch to a more expensive plan where I pay the full price of the phone over 24 installments when I can get it subsidized and only pay $100 once.
Also, my co-worker and fiance had Evo LTEs. I guess our area has a lot of band 41 and Sprint Spark flies. I have seen upwards of 70 Mbps. I get +50 Mbps at my desk at work in Addison, Texas. After seeing my speed tests my co-worker picked up a G3 at lunch one day and has been blown away. He would previously get less than 1 Mbps with his Evo LTE at work. The best part is shutting up all the Sprint haters when we compare speed test results. AT&T, lucky to get over 15 Mbps. Verizon, 8-10 Mbps. T-Mobile is nigh unusable. I used to be embarrassed, but now I can see where Sprint's network vision investment with my own eyes and it's glorious.
I want to pull the trigger on the G3 but for some reason I keep pondering the M8... Damn! Getting a new phone is like buying a house...lol! But I'm almost certain that I can't go wrong with either phone.. It's just a tough decision... Could use some more feedback from those that have used both..thanks!

You could force LTE (not sure exactly how to do it, but it would likely require the right dialer code and the MSL) but you wouldn't be able to get phone calls since there's no VoLTE

I still can't for the life of me understand all the m8 hype. I've seen so many blogs and posts about the "premium build".... Just because it's a metal shell does not mean premium, or great build quality in my book. I was pretty unimpressed when I actually tested one out. It's like a tin can wrapped around a piece of glass. To me the build quality was crap the way the shell wraps the glass bezel. This is in the g3 forum so I don't feel bad dissing the m8

Your opinion is respected but I'm more concerned with how the phones actually work. And I've heard that the M8 is probably the smoothest out there.. and I'm very use to HTC phones so that's why I'm maybe still considering it. But the G3 looks a beast, no doubt about that..

So far I've been very pleased with the LG g3. I've had zero issues. Performance for me has been great. The screen looks fantastic and battery life has been outstanding. You have the ability to remove most of the bloat, and the camera is excellent. Build quality is nice and solid, and I liked the striped down ui. 5.5 screen is really easily handled as well by design.
The last few years I've had HTC and Samsung so LG is a welcomed change ?

So here are phones... Hero, evo 3d and the evo LTE. As you can see it was HTC all the way. Got this phone 3 weeks ago, picked up my evo twice and think ugh, so small and slow........why am I even?! I've now seen you and a small handful of us from the LTE. Usually don't say much, just listen so to speak and I would not go back, get the m8 or any device besides this. It's like the power of 3 lte's and has a great camera.
Not my say in it, but I have not regretted it at all!
