How to juice up your player to handle games - Samsung Galaxy Player 4.0, 5.0

Hi Guys,
Was wondering if there was a way to juice up the graphics on my Galaxy Player 5.0 international...
And are there any good games I can use for them too?
Scheherez

Well i've been playing big titles like modern combact 3, nova 2 and 3, asphalt 6 and i dont have any problem with. If u're rooted maybe overclock and u're ready to play.

Ok kool!
What do I need to overclock and how high can I go safely, because I still would like some battery life...

Ok kool, thanks!
Anyone else have any questions on how Tegrak works?

Every custom kernel here is clocked at 1.2 ghz ..it is enough for any game ..if you want more tegrak overclock give you 1.3 ghz and paid version even more but 1.3 is just enough.

Overclocking the cpu on the SGP 5 does nothing. I have GenericGinger with Entropny's (I think that's how you spell his name) and the only thing I have noticed is the booting is quicker and it charges faster due to the kernal. My solution for you is to get Chainfire3D. The SGP 4 and 5 are able to play Nvidia Tegra games with the occasional fps drop. I can play Galaxy on Fire 2 THD on it thanks to Chainfire3D. Install that app and it will literally bring the retarted Apple devices to it's knees. Android FTW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is not true... I have 1.3ghz and somthing like 180-200 free ramsometimes less becase im using tsf launcher that take 50-60 ram, and simple game lije temple run or fruit ninja get little stuck and little stops.
And sometimes when i exit a game it takes time to the widgets and the applications menu to be loaded.
Ipod is much more faster than this device becase of the processor and because of the ssd

I use adw launcher ex and when game is memory hungry lucher redrows when i exit game but it is few seconds...but i did not yet play a game that have lag...nova 3 would probablu lag on maximum setting but i have no way to check it because game runs in low settings..but i have fifa 2012 ,gta 3 ,ME infiltrator, sims free play ,real racing 2 and 10 more games and they no lag at all.My all games are storred on external Sd card class 10 and u use app call "GL to SD" which is free on the market which bacisly mount android data folder to external card ..with out that internal 5 gb would run out very very fast with this big games.

This statement is absolutely false. Ipod's processor is the same processor inside our SGP but slower. Apple (retarted) underclocks the processors which is very stupid and the ssd is nand storage. Still, the same as the SGP. Do some research before you say the Ipods are better. I am not starting a flame war but this is true.

The processor of ipod 4 is faster than our processor and the ssd make lot of things work much faster! I don't see games get little stops when you get out of some game in the middle...you can get out of couple of games and the new game you will open will work just fine, not like the sgp.when you get out of a game it doesnt take time to load the apps in the menu, the multitasking is much better!
The ipod 4 is much faster and got much less stops in games.
I wish that the sgp could be fast as the ipod 4.
I chose sgp 5.0 over the ipod 4 because i wanted bigger screen and better camera if i knew that tge sgp would need chainfire to run pib or other games to run smooth i wouldn't buy it.

False again. It is slower. Crapple underclocked the Ipod 4 to 800 Mhz from the original 1 Ghz and the SGP has more RAM than a Crapple Ipod. Ipods have 256 MBs of RAM compared to the SGP which have 377 based on the stock task manager. Again, the SGP are faster. Portable devices arent super computers. They will have some trouble loading certain things.
My reasons why I baught a SGP:
1. Not a Crapple product.
2. Bigger screen
3. Hardware is far more better
4. It runs Android which is open sourced
5. MicroSD support

From the 377 how much free ram do you have? You don't have the whole 377 ram. The best you can get is 210 ram abd this after you close everything.
Idk maybe it because i have lot of things on my device but i have friends that have lots if things on thier ipod 4 and the results are like that:
1.because the ssd the ipod4 open the game faster.
2.multi tasking is much better! If you will close an app like facebook it won't return to work after 5 minuts.
3.ipod touch doesn't need something like chianfire to run pib or all the over heavy games.
4.when you get out from a game the ipod 4 get out faster than the sgp.
5.the ipod touch doesn't load the apps after you exit from a game.
6.you can get out from games in the middle and when you back to the games they will continue exactly from when you stoped (again multi tasking)
7.even if its only one game you ran or couple of games you ran in the backround the ipod touch will run the game you play much smoother.
If i want to play pib, temple run, mw3,asphalt 6 or nova 3 i must close all the apps in the backround so i will get something like 170-200 free ram so the games will run smooth. But even after that when i have 1.3 ghz and 170-200 free ram i have little stops in the games.
Im NOT an apple fan but in the players the ipod is the winner.
Idk if it's the android or the device but my sgp is slower than the ipod touch.
Im afaid that everytime a friend take the sgp to play he will get the little stops in the game or even to get the device stuck for good until you restart.
The device isn't smoother than the ipod touch even if he has more ram and more powerful processor.
It's about the results are much important than the hardware in the device.
I want the sgp win but unfortunately in this case he isn't.

this os not what i said and you need to understand that even if the ipod proceesor is 800 mhz it doesn't mean that the galalxy processor which has 1 ghz will be faster.
take pentium 4 which has 3.1ghz and take i5 which has 2.6 ghz who will be faster?
you will say the pentium 4 because the 3.1 ghz but there are lots of things that make the i5 processor to be faster even if he has 2.6 ghz.
about the ram how much free ram do you have? 170-200 free ram?
the ipod touch has more free ram (not ram,FREE ram).
the ipod touch screen is so much better than the galaxy player!unfortunately it's only 3.5 inch.
and you know what, lets say that the galaxy player is more powerful than the itouch 4.still the itouch 4 works faster and smoother.
i wrote all the things that the itouch run smoother than the sgp in the lest comment so i won't write this things again.

The hell is up with u and ur SSD? it isnt as fast as desktop Computer SSD's. No where near the speed of them. It uses a SSD because it uses less power and doesent matter if you drop it. It is NOT faster. Also i dont know about the whole speed thing , but im pretty sure that ur not enjoying the crappy battery and very warm back on ur itouch.
Also Android has far better multitasking. Please learn your facts.
And iTouch 4G has 256 MB Of ram , and runs a Mac os X based OS. U think u have a lot of free ram? No u dont.

Onlive? U mean the online gaming service that streams high end games like assassins creed and other xbox type games to your PC... LOL
I serious doubt you can play those games with a touch screen bro...
Sent from Planet Nibiru, year TUC.13
ofc we can, just go to search button and search for flash player 10.2,after that instal it and reboot, now u can play online games, kongrate and stuff
BE SURE THAT U ARE SEARCHIN FOR :ARMV 6 FLASH PLAYER
and go to your web browser and u should be able to play online games on miniclip and kongrate
thanks?
I think everyone here misunderstood the OP. There is a free app called OnLive which do exactly the same as on PC, with one important difference: a lots of games are made to work with touch screen. The sad thing about it that it works only with ARMv7 CPUs. BTW I have played with Darksiders 30minute demo (console and PC game) on a 10" tablet with single core1ghz armv7 cpu and MALI400 gpu. It was smooth (yeah of course it was smooth, there is a huge server park where the game is really running and streaming the video to phone), but it needs at least 15Mbit download speed. So it is working, but only on ARMv7.

With my best knowledge, there aren't any armv6 port, but I don't know if there will be any in the future. I hope someone will port it because the cloud gaming system could be a very very good thing on lower spec devices, especially for x8 because the screen size is small, the resolution is small, so I think it could easily handle the stream. Notice that a 1ghz tablet with 1024x768 resolution is smoothly played the stream, so I think it will be smooth on our device, and to be honest it will have more clear image quality. So I am hoping that in the future it will be ported to armv6.

1.) It looks like 100% Korean.
2.) I don't think it mentions having 1GB of RAM , so I'd doubt it.
3.) I'm pretty sure they wouldn't work, the developers would have to adapt the current ROMs to it.
Bottom line : Don't buy it. It still has a low screen resolution, barely changed camera (3.2mp -> 5mp). Who knows about the RAM, it's Korean so it's OVERPRICED. A dual-core processor isn't worth buying a whole new device plus paying a premium.
Save your money and wait for a US/International version. Preferably a US since it'll probably sit around the current Galaxy 5 prices of $230/$270 (changes a lot) and may have better specs, hard to tell for now.
According to a guy in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1593190
It does have 1GB of RAM but it isn't worth the price tag. Samsung said there wouldn't be a us version. (probably would have been announced with the 3.6 & 4.2 if it was coming state side)
I am sorry that ur wrong. GALAXY PLAYER 70 PLUS is not 1GB RAM. It is 512MB RAM.

I have sgp 5.0 and the device is slow i dont have enough free ram (max 140 free ram after closing some apps that return automatically run again later)
I use tegrak oc so i have 1.3 ghz to make the device work faster but it still slow.
Games like pib got a lot of little stops and it sometimes even temple run.
And its little embarrassing that you give the device to a friend and it start to stuck in the games and then i need to taje the device and start kill the apps and hope it won't stuck again. Sometimes it stucks reallt hard so i need to restart the device.
This is why i want to buy the new galaxy player because it much much better.
The problem is that there are not a lot of devs to the galaxy player so it doesn't have a lot of roms :-\

I have got one GB70D and it does have 1GB RAM. But I am not sure which cpu it has. The gpu is PowerVR SGX 540, and the frequency is 300~1008MHz. It seems to be omap 4430, but i run Antutu benchmark and compare its score with LG P920. The 2D and 3D scores are much lower than P920.
I just got a used GP70+ (YP-GB70D) and it has 1 GB RAM.
I am quite disappointed with it - the major problem is the Adobe Flash performance of videos played in the web browser.
The GP70+ has flash 10.3 installed. Since Flash player is no longer available in Google Play, I use backup copies from my other phones and tablets and .apks from apktop. Flash 11 does NOT work - either causes force closes, or start playing and freezes. I installed the last version of Flash 10 before 11 (10.3.186.7), and it can only play up to 480p video - NO HD Flash, that completely freezes.
This is really unacceptable for a dual core OMAP4430 device. My GP5.0 and the Galaxy S phone has a single core Hummingbird CPU. It has Flash 11.1 and can play up to 720p Flash video in the browser.
The device also feels a little sluggish for a dual core tablet, even when using GO Launcher. It has a 800 x 480 screen, which is lower resolution than eg. Kindle Fire (which also has OMAP4430), the GPU drives fewer pixels and everything should be faster.
One big plus is that 1080p STORED videos (MP4, DIVX) play flawlessly with MX player - MX player shows that hardware decoding is enabled. HW acceleration is NOT supported in the single core GP5.0, and it can only play up to 720p (some not all, depending on bitrate).
P.S. By the way, if any GP70+ owners want a copy of the rooted firmware of this player (GB70KRLD2), please post your request here or PM me (I don't want the upload link to be killed quickly). I searched high and low and finally found it in a Chinese forum (Google Translate saves the day!). Thank goodness it was still good for download.

[Q] the old question, why do we have low free RAM?

this is not a new question, and I believe it is one of the most frequent questions and I was convinced with the giving answers but after getting my nexus 7 I am looking for some explanations.
why do we have low available RAM.I usually have 200 or less free RAM while my nexus 7 have ~ 500 free RAM. and even the total amount of RAM (used and free) together is about ~650MB and not 1GB, I have read that because delvic catch and other system process uses some RAM, but again my nexus 7 shows total of 1GB RAM (see screenshot attached).
so is this a problem with xperia s itself or is it ICS and this will change with JB
I know that android can free RAM when required and I know that the system using some and I shouldn't care, but using heavy apps and live wallpaper just eats the rest of the RAM and the phone become laggy until I make a restart, then it becomes fine.
any explanation?
It is normal. Live with it.
It's normal, it's not the same as windows, or other OS, I remember I've read in some place that this 'low free ram' is good, because it will start faster the most used apps.
Why does the nexus show almost all of the RAM?

I think because since nexus 7 is aosp thus bloat free it shows up more ram..
The xperia have more stuff always running in the background so it eats the ram up if you take off stuf like timescape and yada yada might make a difference..

C) I uninstalled all the bloatware, there are some more com.bull_****.android processes that can be killed.
D) I made some changes in the heapsize... by this tutorial. Works in JB as well.
E) All of the above?:fingers-crossed:

that what I concluded from several posts I read, no one seems to know the reason, and I am not convinced with any answer, I am now actually starting to think that our xperia s has ~700mb RAM not 1gb just like the HTC desire HD which has 768mb RAM
I think because since nexus 7 is aosp thus bloat free it shows up more ram..
The xperia have more stuff always running in the background so it eats the ram up if you take off stuf like timescape and yada yada might make a difference..

I don't think bloatware has anything to do with this, if it is because bloatware is eating the RAM, then it will be shown as used not completely disappear.
Nexus 7 shows @GB RAM because Tegra is way smarter than Adreno when it comes to graphics RAM.
is there any apps can stop those useless apps to autorun its own or auto startup when phone turn on??
i tried:
autostarts
startup manager
autorun manager
easy app lock
all these doesnt work on my xperia s... thy work in my xperia x10 before... (p.s. my phone is running ICS and is rooted...)
not sure what difference it makes. My phone sits on 105MB free most of the time. I have no lag
what i know from the HTC One X is that tegra 3 GPU is sharing the memory in real time, not partititioning it like the others. only a small amount is saved for kernel so it was showing about 900 Mb of ram. i dont think it is good idea with all that single memory controller. but anyways, tegra GPU is generally sharing the graphic load with CPUs. this is why tegra optimised games make CPUs jump to max even the other devices can handle them easly with chainfire 3D.
and the reason it has more free memory everytime is that, the multitasking is less agressive in quad core devices due to the possible battery drain and heating problems. and this makes me think if upgrading to quad-core is a bottle neck in software with todays battery and 40 Nm technologies.

Quad core is just overkill on mobile. It needs a different approach. OMAP5 is quad core, but the two 'main' (faster) cores kick in dynamically, and most of the system runs on two 'coprocessor' (slower) cores. That's an interesting concept because it can dedicated two cores to a single application and keep the system running in the background.

Dude Xperia S definitely has 1gb of ram. I am getting sick of people saying it has less because they don't understand the way the os works. There is no RAM conspiracy.

The problem is the phone does report less than 1GB and people are used to the likes of windows reporting the amount the actual installed RAM not what is actually available for use.
Sick of hearing it or not you better get used to it because unless manufacturers or Google start displaying the amount of RAM actually in the phone the same question is going to be asked for ever more.

No if u use PC with non-dedicated gpu/VGA. Imagine if people complain their 2 gB ram laptop has only 1.5 gB in the Windows. There are a lot of laptops saying that they have 2 gB ram (in their advertisement ), yet the fact is they only have less then 2 gB cause of the sharing of gpu.

Lol.it's different case. It's because the os (32 bit) doesn't support more than 3 gB ram. But there's a hack to make the 32 bit windows use more than 3 gB of ram.

[Q] Android RAM

Hi people, just a simple question that hope has not been made, do you think, in a short time (few months) 2 GB of RAM will be required for our devices to work well?
The most important is smooth and stable, higher RAM is not neccesary.
Probably as tech gets higher, more ram will be required for later games and applications.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Xparent SkyBlue Tapatalk 2
Cellphones today are the same as computer is... the higher hardware it would only be required to those who uses heavy features, like games and developing programs.
So, if you want a device just to basic use, you'll not need high spec cellphones.
It really depends on the usage, but there will be a lot of resource-consuming games released soon.
Some custom roms like miui also take a lot of memory! 1GB is getting short...

You don't really NEED 2GB of RAM, but does help. Better multitasking, mostly.

me personally i don't think that phones really need 2gb like gagdude said. I think if you have a kernel that makes the phone run faster then not necessarily 2gb is needed but helps alot.
Seeing phones like the new Nexus or the Galaxy S3 Alpha are coming out with two GB... I dont know if there will be apps or tweaks like that new one on the S3 Alpha that will not work well in our 1 GB phones soon.
i have a htc desire with cm10 4.1.2, it only has 576mb ram, but still kind of smooth, so 2gb is not necessary, but still more is better, because it will be more smooth, espicially when you playing games.
I don't think it's necessary and yeah you guys are right phones are like computers.
HD Screen
Quad Core
2GB Ram
Powerful gpus
If cpus would be x86 and with a mouse and keyboard you could get a fully working windows 7 on your phone. Even most of the computers at schools and libraries are not quad core.
I think ubuntu realized that and they are developing a fully functional ubuntu for phones with two and more cores.
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA Premium HD app
Personally, I feel that 2gb ram is needed. Reason being that stock s3 uses around 700 - 900mb of ram. Of course, you may still say that you can install custom rom and decrease its usage to maybe 500 - 600mb. But if you run a lot of apps, it will eventually use more than 1gb of ram and the remaining usage will be send to and forth the swap(slower access).
Despite having zram which improves performance for devices with low rams, but ram is still faster than zram so having more ram is indeed better.
With a device that has to swap to and forth the swap and ram, battery life will be reduced and the performance will not be that good as the instructions of the code inside the ram has to be done then only it can be swapped with the instructions inside the swap and so it reduces the performance(in theory, you may not feel it unless you run something i/o intensive)
Go read up more on ram, zram and swap and you'll get it why I'd said to get a device with more ram.
Platform fragmentation on android will surely slow down this process. Also the maximum heap space available for a Java application (opengl textures and native code are excluded from this limitation) doesn't make extra RAM so important for many apps.
But for sure I wouldn't complain if my phone had more RAM.
1GB is enough. 2GB? You will play Asphalt 7 & Modern Combat 3 at the same time?

Gaming quality of sony tablet s

Has anyone tried the new dungeon hunter 4? For my experience it lag like hell, i tried several game boosters found on play store but non helped. Funny thing is that gameloft posted that the minimum requirements would be at least 1ghz and 512 ram. Im using the original sony s tab whuch has 1gig ram 1ghz dual core& Tegra 2. Anyone ha similar experiences?
No , i haven't played that particular game but every other game I've tried, plays flawlessly.
I bet my ass, that if the tablet was rootable and cwm was installable, we wouldve had a much better tablet... If you look at the Xperia Arc S, which is more than 2 years old and has 512 ram and 1,4 single core CPU, with the proper flashable drivers, rom and kernel you can run Real Racing 3 without lag... The Sony Tablet S is just not well enough optimised.

Yes I've tried that game as well, lags a lot, even with visual quality set to very low, which frankly, makes it look like crap. But everything else I've tried plays flawlessly, so it must be an isolated issue with this specific game.
whining about this is pointless on this forum, if want stuff fixed go to sony forum if want root again go to sony forums.
xda can't do anything except listen and ignore cous they can't do anything about it.
