Gaming quality of sony tablet s - Sony Tablet S

Has anyone tried the new dungeon hunter 4? For my experience it lag like hell, i tried several game boosters found on play store but non helped. Funny thing is that gameloft posted that the minimum requirements would be at least 1ghz and 512 ram. Im using the original sony s tab whuch has 1gig ram 1ghz dual core& Tegra 2. Anyone ha similar experiences?

No , i haven't played that particular game but every other game I've tried, plays flawlessly.

I bet my ass, that if the tablet was rootable and cwm was installable, we wouldve had a much better tablet... If you look at the Xperia Arc S, which is more than 2 years old and has 512 ram and 1,4 single core CPU, with the proper flashable drivers, rom and kernel you can run Real Racing 3 without lag... The Sony Tablet S is just not well enough optimised.

Yes I've tried that game as well, lags a lot, even with visual quality set to very low, which frankly, makes it look like crap. But everything else I've tried plays flawlessly, so it must be an isolated issue with this specific game.

whining about this is pointless on this forum, if want stuff fixed go to sony forum if want root again go to sony forums.
xda can't do anything except listen and ignore cous they can't do anything about it.

[Q] Will Tegra 2 games work on Exynos Galaxy S II ?

I just ordered my Galaxy S II from the UK, but there has been a question hangin over my head.
Will games that are optimized for Tegra 2 ( such as games in Tegra Zone ) work on the Galaxy S II with the Exynos chipset?

From reading other comments elsewhere it appeared that the Exynos chipset was better than the Tegra 2, or is the Tegra 2 just better in games?...
Tegra games will not work on any other GPU ATM
galaxy s and nexus s PowerVR sgx 540 and other high end GPUs are more than capable of running "tegra 2" games.
Not to mention the tegra 2 really isn't that much faster than the SGS NS sgx540 tegra has two CPU cores and from what i gathered when gaming it dedicated one core for system and the other strictly for games when gaming.
Nvidia is paying off developers just like they do on PC. only difference between mobile and PC though is that PC "nvidia meant to be played" games will still work on ATI
Not the same with other mobile GPUs unfortunately
Nvidia is ruining android by doing this exclusive BS
Also the SGS2 GPU should be on par if not faster than the tegra 2
^ Gotcha thanks!...
Not sure if this has been answered before, but this post seems like a good place for this discussion...
1. Why did samsung launch a phone under two different cpu's...
2. Doesn't this mean that when samsung goes to release an android update for the phone they have to make two different updates, one for each cpu?

1. Probably due to the limited supply of Exynos CPUs
2. No, unless there needs to be a new driver written for the CPU (which is highly unlikely)
Nvidia is just causing some more fragmentation. As if we needed anymore.

Not only that but AMD is actually getting into the Android hardware game so it's about to get even messier. I hope Google comes out with some kind of DirectX thing to help with this.
well this cant go on forever because HTC sensation also comin out with a different cpu. so we should see the games released in different versions for all dual core phones pretty soon.

Wouldnt worry to much about that Most game developers make sure their game run on a wide selection of phones. Addapting a game to run on a new phone is not a lot of work, but increases the market potential. As mentioned before, Nvidia is paying developers to make the game tegra2 only. And luckely Nvidia is the only one doing this so far. A direct X solution for android could be a good medicine against the fragmentation, but I do know a certain hackers community that makes tegra 2 games playable on other devices. (have been playing galaxy on fire 2 for a while now) But XDA doesnt support linking to pirated software so I cannot share this, im sorry. (Google is your friend )
If the range of tegra 2 games will grow, there will be more interest in porting those games. Since its not very hard. Lets hope the hackers destroy the fragmentation haha.
As long as game developers stick to OpenGL ES specifications, all devices will be able to play the game (current). The device with more powerful GPU will obviously play it better.
What Nvidia is doing with Tegra is that they are making the sponsored game developers use the proprietary texture compression format that only Tegra Devices can run. This is what I have against Tegra Zone and Tegra as whole. The last thing we want is Nvidia playing dirty games they tried to play in PC gaming arena (they still do to some extent with PhysX and CUDA ).
So there is no real need to worry about developers having to code the game for each GPU core out there. Sensation might have different GPU but it will be OpenGL ES 2.x compatible just like Mali and others.

Yes but you'll need to Root, download Chainfire3D and the NVidia Tegra patch.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1090032
I can confirm this works for some games...
These are the games I've tested thus far:
Samurai II: Vengeance runs very well - However their is a bug with opening the combo draw.
Pinball HD for Tegra runs flawlessly
Riptide GP doesn't load at all - Just a black screen and then crash to homescreen.
When I have the money I'll buy the other games later and post results later.
Our phones also use an OpenGL compression which no other phone uses as of this moment, so there is nearly 0 support for it at the moment
EDIT: I forgot to mention this is with the use of Chainfire 3D with the Tegra plugin.
Pinball HD is running even on my Xperia X10 with Chainfire 3d...
Samurai 2 ... runs on low texture but not playable on x10.... but i have seen videos of it running on SGS and Desire HD... so it will run on sgs2 too
Dont know about other games...

[Q] Galaxy Tab 10.1 stutters especially with live wallpaper on

I've only got my galaxy tab 10.1 for a week or so. It ran rather smoothly out of the box. But then it just slowed down. Now it frequently stutters when multitasking, screen rotating orientation, or even just running some applications. Things get particularly worse when live wallpaper is on. I checked in the setting/applications/running services to make sure I didn't run out of RAM (there was often still 300 something MB free).
Did any of you experience that? What would you suggest me doing to resolve this issue? Or is there no solution to this? I do remember everything running fine without lagging when I first used it.
Any sharing or suggestions are much appreciated.
None of the available tablets are capable of running live wallpapers smoothly. I don't have any problem otherwise though. Try doing a factory reset.
thanks. i probably should.
The Tegra 2 chip is not capable of running live wallpapers smoothly due to its crippled 32bit memory interface. It simply does not have enough memory bandwidth to process. Tegra 2 was SUPPOSED to have dual channel memory but Nvidia decided to ditch the second 32bit channel (which would have greatly improved performance under live wallpapers and games) to save power
This is the same reason why you notice your tablet slowing down after using it for a little while. Once system memory starts to get filled Android OS needs to shuffle around memory, remove apps from memory to make room for newly launched apps, ect. This all takes alot of memory bandwidth and with only a 32bit wide channel you can see why your tablet slows down. Especially when doing anything visual like swiping home screens across.
Most people dont know that Tegra 2 is an old chipset. Its been around for over a year now. I was blown away and shocked when I found that Nvidia used a crippled 32bit single channel memory interface. Not sure what they were thinking
I cant wait for TIs dual-core SoC, they run dual channel memory and have a GPU many times faster that Tegra 2. If you want to run live wallpapers its best to skip any Tegra 2 device and wait for a unit with TIs SoC later this summer or a Tegra 3 which will be in tablets in 5 months.
Many people feel their tablets and phones perform a lot better (at least when on the home screens) when you use a third-party launcher like ADW Launcher Ex or Launcher Pro.

magic smoke
I re flashed the tab 10.1 back to the 3.01 OS and It runs live wall papers great. No shuddering and my applications load quickly. I Do use android assistant and shut down any programs I don't use. Gonna try the new kernel.
so 3rd party launchers are bad... why? also, a new kernel for the tab? already?

3rd party launchers are just apps. There is nothing wrong with them but they certainly don't improve performance of any aspect of the device.

Archos is launching a tablet with the 1.5ghz TI dual core chip really soon. Itll be much faster than tegra 2 and have 3 times the gpu performance. The gpu performance on the tegra 2 is just plain awful even for a 1st gen device.
Thanks 5thElement for your detailed information. Now I have a much better understanding of how this problem came to be. For now though, I couldn't stand the lagging behind any more and reset the tab to factory setting. Smooth all around once again. Will have to re-purchase all the apps I paid for though. This part sucks!
Actually just found out u need not repurchase anything. Google sync remembers everything and does a full recovery of all settings and apps for u. Kudos to google!

They will indeed be more than likely faster than Tegra 2 but for the record the TI OMAP 4460 uses Imagination Technologies PowerVR SGX 540 GPUs which are the same GPUs used in the Samsung Galaxy S phones (not the new SIIs). That isnt a massive difference between Gefore ULP.
Now, the TIs OMAP 5 chipset does use a shock and awesome GPU that is dangerously similar to the iPads GPU which is from ITs PowerVR SGX 544 MP line and those are a true dual core GPU. Anandtech has some GPU benchmarks covering this....

The PowerVR 540 will be significantly faster than tegra 2 not only because it has a unified architecture but because TIs SoC will have dual channel memory unlike the crippled single channel memory the Tegra 2 has. The memory bandwidth on the tegra 2 is pathetic and it has to be shared with video which is seriously crippling for the Tegra 2 and its poor performance sticks out like a sore thumb as you can see when you try to run live wallpapers.

On MY Tab, Adw EX outperforms the stock launcher by leaps and bounds. I don't know what they did programatically, but it consistently moves smoother, faster than the stock launcher.
Live wallpapers are still problematic, but I do feel the presentation of icons/widgets is better. Not all launchers are created equal... including the default one.
I've just received the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and I already own a Galaxy S2 phone. I was very disappointed with the stutter and lag in the GT 10.1 compared to the GS2. In fact I was sort of amazed because I hadn't seen any reference to the poor video and livewallpaper performance when looking at reviews of the tab.
I've tried resetting to factory defaults after installing the latest firmware update from Samsung and I simply can't use a livewallpaper - the slowdown in performance of the tablet is quite noticable.
I've got videos on my GS2 that play fine but on the Galaxy Tab, they just stutter (and I'm not using a livewallpaper). I've tried all sorts of video player apps as well.
I wished I'd known that the Tegra 2 would not be capable of the sorts of things my GS2 is. It's just weird that I hadn't seen any reference to this before.
As suggested, try using a different launcher. While it doesn't change the hardware, most users find that the stock launcher is inherently laggy. ADW for example also has user adjustable tweaks which can improve perceived speed.
As for live wallpapers, some are worse than others of course. Experiment a bit. Also check widgets you may have on screen which could be causing slow downs. Things like circle launcher and updating social apps are known to cause slowness.
I am running Bonsai ROM with various tweaks, overclocked at 1.4gHz and can run live wallpapers smoothly with no problems.
Edit: You should also be able to run video smoothly. Using stock player or Rockplayer, etc. I regularly watch movies and videos, as well as Netflix with no issues. Of course video type, size, etc will make a difference, but even non-optimized movies seem smooth for me.

thanks?
I think everyone here misunderstood the OP. There is a free app called OnLive which do exactly the same as on PC, with one important difference: a lots of games are made to work with touch screen. The sad thing about it that it works only with ARMv7 CPUs. BTW I have played with Darksiders 30minute demo (console and PC game) on a 10" tablet with single core1ghz armv7 cpu and MALI400 gpu. It was smooth (yeah of course it was smooth, there is a huge server park where the game is really running and streaming the video to phone), but it needs at least 15Mbit download speed. So it is working, but only on ARMv7.

With my best knowledge, there aren't any armv6 port, but I don't know if there will be any in the future. I hope someone will port it because the cloud gaming system could be a very very good thing on lower spec devices, especially for x8 because the screen size is small, the resolution is small, so I think it could easily handle the stream. Notice that a 1ghz tablet with 1024x768 resolution is smoothly played the stream, so I think it will be smooth on our device, and to be honest it will have more clear image quality. So I am hoping that in the future it will be ported to armv6.

How to juice up your player to handle games

Overclocking the cpu on the SGP 5 does nothing. I have GenericGinger with Entropny's (I think that's how you spell his name) and the only thing I have noticed is the booting is quicker and it charges faster due to the kernal. My solution for you is to get Chainfire3D. The SGP 4 and 5 are able to play Nvidia Tegra games with the occasional fps drop. I can play Galaxy on Fire 2 THD on it thanks to Chainfire3D. Install that app and it will literally bring the retarted Apple devices to it's knees. Android FTW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This statement is absolutely false. Ipod's processor is the same processor inside our SGP but slower. Apple (retarted) underclocks the processors which is very stupid and the ssd is nand storage. False again. It is slower. Crapple underclocked the Ipod 4 to 800 Mhz from the original 1 Ghz and the SGP has more RAM than a Crapple Ipod. Ipods have 256 MBs of RAM compared to the SGP which have 377 based on the stock task manager. Again, the SGP are faster. Portable devices arent super computers. They will have some trouble loading certain things.
My reasons why I baught a SGP:
1. Not a Crapple product.
2. Bigger screen
3. Hardware is far more better
4. It runs Android which is open sourced
5. MicroSD support

From the 377 how much free ram do you have? You don't have the whole 377 ram. The best you can get is 210 ram abd this after you close everything.
Idk maybe it because i have lot of things on my device but i have friends that have lots if things on thier ipod 4 and the results are like that:
1.because the ssd the ipod4 open the game faster.
2.multi tasking is much better! If you will close an app like facebook it won't return to work after 5 minuts.
3.ipod touch doesn't need something like chianfire to run pib or all the over heavy games.
4.when you get out from a game the ipod 4 get out faster than the sgp.
5.the ipod touch doesn't load the apps after you exit from a game.
6.you can get out from games in the middle and when you back to the games they will continue exactly from when you stoped (again multi tasking)
7.even if its only one game you ran or couple of games you ran in the backround the ipod touch will run the game you play much smoother.
If i want to play pib, temple run, mw3,asphalt 6 or nova 3 i must close all the apps in the backround so i will get something like 170-200 free ram so the games will run smooth. But even after that when i have 1.3 ghz and 170-200 free ram i have little stops in the games.
Im NOT an apple fan but in the players the ipod is the winner.
Idk if it's the android or the device but my sgp is slower than the ipod touch.
Im afaid that everytime a friend take the sgp to play he will get the little stops in the game or even to get the device stuck for good until you restart.
The device isn't smoother than the ipod touch even if he has more ram and more powerful processor.
It's about the results are much important than the hardware in the device.
I want the sgp win but unfortunately in this case he isn't.
Sorry that i wrote a lot and sorry for my english

this os not what i said and you need to understand that even if the ipod proceesor is 800 mhz it doesn't mean that the galalxy processor which has 1 ghz will be faster.
take pentium 4 which has 3.1ghz and take i5 which has 2.6 ghz who will be faster?
you will say the pentium 4 because the 3.1 ghz but there are lots of things that make the i5 processor to be faster even if he has 2.6 ghz.
about the ram how much free ram do you have? 170-200 free ram?
the ipod touch has more free ram (not ram,FREE ram).
the ipod touch screen is so much better than the galaxy player!unfortunately it's only 3.5 inch.
and you know what, lets say that the galaxy player is more powerful than the itouch 4.still the itouch 4 works faster and smoother.
i wrote all the things that the itouch run smoother than the sgp in the lest comment so i won't write this things again.

Now you are enter to another subject.
I don't like the close system of the idevices too but like i was saying the idevice are faster than some of the android devices (not all of them) and in our case the itouch 4 is faster and smoother than sgp.

My SGP is much smother then my iphone 3gs and ipod 4 has mostly similar spec like 3gs ..android is real multitasking so performance depends from user to user..maybe you have to many background aps..i have frozen with titanium backup all blotware or apps that run always in background but i dont use them..

The hell is up with u and ur SSD? it isnt as fast as desktop Computer SSD's. No where near the speed of them. It uses a SSD because it uses less power and doesent matter if you drop it. It is NOT faster. Also i dont know about the whole speed thing , but im pretty sure that ur not enjoying the crappy battery and very warm back on ur itouch.
Also Android has far better multitasking. Please learn your facts.
And iTouch 4G has 256 MB Of ram , and runs a Mac os X based OS. U think u have a lot of free ram? No u dont.
Goodbye.

[Q] Adreno 305 vs adreno 203 on 2 different devices...

So I'm thinking of buying the Sony Xperia L, and from what I noticed, it can run some of the heaviest games smoothly...
My friend owns an HTC Desire 300, which runs on adreno 203, and both phones have a dual core 1ghz processor. I have noticed that when he was playing heavier games like real boxing, the fps were lowered down...
So what I want to know, is how much difference we'll notice in gaming between the 2 phones? How many more fps will I be getting with the Xperia L?
Thanks in advance

I used to play Dead Trigger on my device with a 305 and it was really smooth, no slowdowns.

I know but dead trigger can ever run with over 30 fps on my old Xperia Tipo, with no lag issues... I was hoping a comparison between the adreno 305 and 203 with heavier games, like asphalt 8 or so. But thanks anyway
