So I'm thinking of buying the Sony Xperia L, and from what I noticed, it can run some of the heaviest games smoothly...
My friend owns an HTC Desire 300, which runs on adreno 203, and both phones have a dual core 1ghz processor. I have noticed that when he was playing heavier games like real boxing, the fps were lowered down...
So what I want to know, is how much difference we'll notice in gaming between the 2 phones? How many more fps will I be getting with the Xperia L?
Thanks in advance

I used to play Dead Trigger on my device with a 305 and it was really smooth, no slowdowns.

I know but dead trigger can ever run with over 30 fps on my old Xperia Tipo, with no lag issues... I was hoping a comparison between the adreno 305 and 203 with heavier games, like asphalt 8 or so. But thanks anyway

Hows the gaming on Tbolt?. Way better than older snapdragons like evo or inc? Comparable to galaxy s? Choppy? Smooth? Im just curious.
It is a lot better than the Evo but not on the same level of SGS phones, Samsung is always ahead in the graphics department.
So maybe droid x level?
Depends on what you are playing, of course. N64oid doesn't run all games smoothly yet.
The new Snapdragon processor that is in the thunderbolt is pretty much the same as the first hummingbird, so the graphic capabilities should also be about the same. I came from a Captivate and all the games I played on it play just as well. I do miss that SAMOLED screen though...
emulators are available right? like gameboid etc? You dont need root do you?

Dont see whynot
I play this stupid little game called The Elements which is VERY processor intensive.
It ran pretty good on my Incredible. Ran pretty choppy on my Droid X, but on the Thunderbolt, it's smooth as heck. Way better than the previous two phones.
I bought the let's golf game accidentally but its a lot of fun and runs great for whatever kind of processor usage it takes...I still have to get raging thunder off my Droid but that should be good too..

It is not anywhere close to the Hummingbird when it comes to graphics. Go look at some of the Quadrant tests and look at how smooth the graphics are. Thunderbolt stutters a bit but way way way better than the Evo ever was or could be.
If you run a Smartbench 2010 test, it will show the results for a SGS phone, graphics score way higher.

Hummingbird is both the CPU + GPU. CPU wise, they are based on ARM Cortex A8. Info:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samsung_Hummingbird
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ARM_Cortex_A8
So in the end, Hummingbird is superior when it comes to graphic capabilities. Thunderbolt is faster when it comes to data crunching and processing.
"The current generation Snapdragon uses Adreno 205 GPUs. This GPU is just as fast as the Hummingbird, if not faster."

That is not what the benchmarks are saying. Run one yourself.
Benchmarks are Benchmarks, Real Life performance is Real life performace.
My TB has been beastly on Words with Friends.
As the topic says which is better?

mali 400...
I havent tested mali, but the downside with tegra 2 is that they say that nvidia haven't released the source code, leaving developers fumbling in darkness. I have an LG Optimus 2X with tegra 2 gpu, and I really like the smoothness and quickness of my graphics. I haven't seen any graphical problems yet, though I have played lots of demanding games.
You could check these out: http://www.anandtech.com/show/4177/samsungs-galaxy-s-ii-preliminary-performance-mali400-benchmarked and http://www.differencebetween.com/difference-between-mali-400mp-gpu-and-vs-tegra-2/.

That was Anandtech Feb 2011 benchmark.
I admit those scores also misled me for the longest time, which is what brought me to purchase a Tegra 2 tablet. Then after a while, seeing that there is little gaming support for Tegra 2 (couldn't even run Dead Space, and Real Racing 2 ran like a dog), I fell out of that wagon pretty fast and got an iPad 2, which ran basically ANYTHING, and freaking hell smoothly I might add.
Now I got to play with a friend's Galaxy that comes with a Mali 400MP. What amazes me is that it can run NOVA 3 relatively well, whereas Tegra 2 version can't even show you any shader effects, that is, if you get it to run at all. So after some more Googling, I found another benchmark from Anandtech that claims a totally different thing. Have yourself a look.
http://www.anandtech.com/show/4686/samsung-galaxy-s-2-international-review-the-best-redefined/17
Now if you base your performance on the first 2 graphs, of course you'd think the Tegra 2 is so much faster than Mali 400MP. But hang on, scroll down a little further, and you'll see how wrong you are. For on every graph that follows, Mali 400MP freaking hands the other players their asses! All except Flash, which it ties with Tegra 2.
i think they are performing close together, any rumor? no i dont think so,
These Benchmarks are only theoretical values.
I'm running my Sony Xperia P which contains a cutted Mali400 with Chainfire3d fired up with Nvidia Plugin so i'm able to play the Tegra 2 Games and they are smooth like Hell even with 4xMSAA.
So Benchmarks are one Hand but real feel Values are the better one Solution to mention about Performance
(Xperia P has only 1Core Mali400MP the SGSII has 4Core Mali400MP4)
And how does that contradict what I said about Tegra 2 vs Mali 400MP? Mali 400MP > Tegra 2, totally contrary to what a lot of people have asserted on this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=977412
And if you're a Tegra fan looking for more aggravation, just look up "tegra 2 NOVA3" and watch a few videos, and watch a few videos of how Mali 400 runs the same game.
Tegra 2
But mali400 have support more than tegra 2 video codecs
I have experienced some pretty choppy graphics when playing NFS Most Wanted with my i9300. The game stutters from time to time and by the looks of it it seems rendered at 20-22 FPS (not terribly laggy, but it's not good below 24).
So I decided to port NFS Most Wanted from my GS3 to my GS1 (i9000), which was probably incompatible from the market because of the "old" hardware. To my surprise, the game was rendered at a steady 40+ FPS with only the occasional stutter when 3+ cops are after me and 5 cars are on display. This, on a 1.14 Ghz Exynos Single core processor with a PowerVR SGX 540 card running at 200 Mhz.
Can someone tell me what is the reason behind this? Is this a Mali (ARM) specific problem? A Mali 400 running at 533 Mhz with the Exynos Quad should be able to smoke the SGX 540 running at 200 Mhz. Yes the SGX is powering a WVGA display I know, but with over twice the clock rate I don't see why the Mali should perform worse!
Experienced the same. I thought it was just a laggy game but I tried it on an Xperia Ion and was suprised that it turned out smoother than the SIII
works fine here. stock unrooted atm. i'm guessing over 40fps.

Ion has the Adreno 220 if i recall correctly? It should be more or less equal to Mali, but a Mali at that clock rate should be faster. Both the Ion and Sgs3 render 720p displays so its a fair fight there.

I assume you are sticking with the stock clock rates as well (1.4 GHz CPU, 440 MHz GPU)? Are you on 4.1.2 or 4.1.1? I have tries both ELL5 4.1.2 and CM10.1 and they both produce similar results, but CM was slightly worse.

stock 4.1.2 as i said unrooted. everything stock, clock speeds, drivers, etc. everything and works fine.

Has anyone tried the new dungeon hunter 4? For my experience it lag like hell, i tried several game boosters found on play store but non helped. Funny thing is that gameloft posted that the minimum requirements would be at least 1ghz and 512 ram. Im using the original sony s tab whuch has 1gig ram 1ghz dual core& Tegra 2. Anyone ha similar experiences?
No , i haven't played that particular game but every other game I've tried, plays flawlessly.
I bet my ass, that if the tablet was rootable and cwm was installable, we wouldve had a much better tablet... If you look at the Xperia Arc S, which is more than 2 years old and has 512 ram and 1,4 single core CPU, with the proper flashable drivers, rom and kernel you can run Real Racing 3 without lag... The Sony Tablet S is just not well enough optimised.

Yes I've tried that game as well, lags a lot, even with visual quality set to very low, which frankly, makes it look like crap. But everything else I've tried plays flawlessly, so it must be an isolated issue with this specific game.
whining about this is pointless on this forum, if want stuff fixed go to sony forum if want root again go to sony forums.
xda can't do anything except listen and ignore cous they can't do anything about it.
hey guys I owned multiple phones in my life and to be honest the best one I had is the HTC One XL
single cored device of 1.5GHZ i over clocked it to 1.8GHZ and i still have it, it is a lot faster than all new phones, faster than sony phones heck its even faster than my Xperia Z5 Compact 8 cored!!
4 cores of 2ghz and another 4 of 1.5 and can not even compete to the speed of the One XL when it comes to launching apps speed and smooth UI experience!
so I am asking you if its any related to the roms we have and the drivers of sony could be causing the problems? I tried AOKP AOSP AICP Lineage roms they are fast enough but still why isnt it as fast as the 4-5 years old HTC SINGLED CORED!
if its roms related or UI can any one suggest really small roms or UI that can give my device a more powerful experience?
thanks for any one that can help
Funny. Any proof, maybe benchmarks screenshots or comparsion video? My Antutu score is 86 660 on stock 7.0 firmware for example.

thats exactly the funny thing! I have a really high score on multitasking - GPU, basically every thing else besides "Single core" score
and its really funny how the phone specs it says : it comes with 4 large cores of 2.0GHZ when in actuallity they run at 1.5ghz and when you actually run it on 2.0 youre actually "over-clocking" when in actuallity its just what they are supposed to do! how is that?
plus I got 59000 on AOKP how is that possible??
