Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium
I been having fun flashing new rooms on my note. Question is, what's this talk about source code not released yet?

Source is not released unti official ota/update

Once the official source is dropped
All these ICS roms/ports will be complete to say
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using Tapatalk 2

What will this do for the note? I'm running ics now... sorry Im a little confused

Right now DEVS are limited to what they can customize when making a ROM. With source DEVS will have full control to develope better roms, Custom kernals, yada yada.

NO! Whenever we get an update from AT&T the scource will be released sometime after that. The scource usually gets released no more than two weeks later than the update.

Well Tmo is releasing their Galaxy Note in the 1st or 2nd week in July and since their version ships with ICS right out of the box we should have ICS source code by the end of July if not sooner.:fingers-crossed:

The Mesmerize Froyo went live last night, and source for the kernel is already out. The Thunderbolt was released last Thursday, where is your source for that?
Gripe: same story as always alot of unneccessary changes to the source code making it appear to be incompatible with the other handsets. Sorted out a good portion of it this morning. Top of list once working...make a universal GalaxyS kernel....progress is I've been working on it for a week already minus the fascinate specific stuff, btw it appears the Fascinate I-500 4G is on the way because this source has wimax and a dsim drivers in it..

Unfortunately that's the trade off for pure blacks and deep greens, reds and blues...Amoled doesn't due pure whites and the pinkish tint to greys is a known issue since the technology came about.

It's not that great.
Anyway, I'm definitely switching to an HTC phone soon...just as soon as the Merge comes out.
I can't wait for the AOSP Froyo, GB potential, and a fully functional MIUI on the Fascinate. Perhaps Froyo source will get us a step closer...

AT&T Galaxy Note Kernel Source Released

While the phone hasn't been released in the US yet, Samsung has decided to go ahead and release the Kernel source for the AT&T version of the Note. Thought US-based Devs would like to have this so the ROMs can be worked on for the US Note (which I can't wait to pick up on 2/18, myself)

Let's keep this pertinent to development.
AT&T Galaxy Note Kernel Source Released I want ICe Cream
So with Sammy releasing the AT&T Galaxy Note Kernel Source does this mean they are going to release ICS for the Note and have a whole new Kernal?
ICS for US based Note will come after April ....
Oh, please, after the wait we had for GB on the Captivate, I don't think anyone can predict ICS's coming on any kind of a schedule.
Do you guys think we will have a root method waiting for us when release day hits ?

When I had the note in hand last Saturday I tried super one click and it "claimed" it worked...I had issues with superuser though.
I wasn't brave enough to try and flash a custom recovery and a superuser zip though as it wasn't my device haha.
Either the test unit was rooted already, or superoneclick worked

The 90 day GPL thing is something constructed by HTC so they don't have to release source, and we tolerate it for some reason. Technically source is supposed to drop the minute the OTA goes out according to GPL v2(which the Linux kernel is under).
Give it a read, there is nothing about a 90 day wait:

You are legally able to make a kernel before then, but you have to be able to do it without the HTC source. HTC can't do anything to you for building a kernel that works on the Thunderbolt. The 90 days is because most devs can't make a kernel without the source, but a kernel could be built and openly distributed before the source drops(or the OTA) with no repercussions.
Besides, I really doubt they would attempt to punish a developer that actually makes their phone worth owning. I hate sense with a passion, but ICS is ICS, and until source drops I'll be content with it(nothing against Jester, but I'm not a fan of all the changed in JMOD)

Do they actually wait exactly 90 days? If so, the source should drop on the 4th or 5th, if memory serves.

someone will either need to get a rezound or someone like chad or dmeadows would need to apply to be a maintainer which i dont think they will do. We will probably get unofficial cm10 in time and maybe even more unofficial cm versions (cm11?) when they come out.

yep what poison said. its posible if we can find a maintainer but for now as long as we sync with source and put out builds they are stable enough to call them builds. lol
chad is working on his kernel, but he is a busy man, so give it some time. ants lenoob build is awesome as far as cm9 goes. And Neo and i are working on making a build bot for nightlies for AOKP
Hoping!
I love the simplicity and speed of CM so much I'd pay $50 to someone who could get it officially supported. Lol. That's s much as I actually paid for the phone!

Because the devs havent been trying to get CM9 that is what we have now. They want to get us the newest OS. Really all they need is certain parts of the source to make it happen. If you ask maybe you may get a CM9 rom from someone who has experience doing it. Just my two cents

My understanding is that no dev wants to build CM9 for us because of the expectation that it will shortly become useless once JB source drops and we can have 10.1. Any JB based ROM is going to have a lot more longevity than an ICS ROM, so why put time and resources into ICS at this point?

I can tell you this, if someone had created an CM ICS ROM, everyone would be rocking it. At least 90% of us...
Yeah, I for one see no point to a cm9 rom at this point.
I gave it a shot, and I just ran into problems that I was not sure how I would go about fixing, so I just pretty much gave up. It will be much easier getting a CM rom out when we have everyone working together to fix the issues, especially including the more experienced developers.
It's a combo of no point if JB source is coming soon, and that the ICS source is a mess. Just because the source is out doesn't mean they can just magically type stuff and make it work. If it's terribly put together it's hard, like Samsung's KK4 source code for the Cappy.
All I was saying is I'm just saying. Lots of folks would rather have the CM options and theming and added options, that's all. It's not a complaint or accusation so much as an observation. My 2 cents, if you will.

loophole. More like sabatoge. Manufactures don't butcher the source becase they are dumb. If they put out solid source we could easily stay just as up to date as the n4. And if you did that you might not buy a new phone for a while. If you never get jb on your phone you will by the g2. The manufacturer has just as much to gain as the carrier
