who can give me a working SBL.bin for vibrant?
I think that will be possible to fix the 3-buttons issue.
Update: Yes!
I got sbl and boot from you guys and added them to my phone by using Odin boot loader update!
I used to want to re-flahs JI4 but I think patch files is easier and safer...
That indicated my guess is right.. and thanks you guys so much for your dump files!

I assume this is a working copy, it was included with the leaked JI4 update, which I flashed with ODIN, and my phone has working 3-button mode.
Good luck, cheers =)
I am absolutely positive I could not get into recovery mode with out adb before flashing this.

this is the "cant get into recovery mode" fix.
Friend told me he got the OTA update and it fixed the 3 button issue and he can now get into recovery , not sure if this is true or not, just relaying information

Probably, but it sounds like you have a file that works, so there shouldn't be a need to patch it.
oh well when did this happen?? does it actually work??
also can someone make a update.zip for clockwork?
no, I just want to patch it by ADB downloading mode... I am key combo locked.
Moved to Q&A, if this progesses to DEV, let me know.

I'm honestly not sure exactly what you mean, but you can probably make an update.zip with redbend_ua to flash the SBL.bin to the right bml block, though I don't really know which block stores the SBL.
the update script should be something similar like this (this is how we flash the modem.bin via redbend)
Code:
show_progress 0.1 0
copy_dir PACKAGE:update TMP:/update
set_perm 0 0 755 TMP:/update/redbend_ua
run_program /tmp/update/redbend_ua restore /tmp/update/modem.bin /dev/block/bml12
show_progress 0.1 10
Else maybe download the entire leaked JI4 update, and flash it with ODIN, then verify the 3-button mode works with the SBL it flashes (its the same one I posted.)
Cheers

with out any problems but your results may vary use caution when flashing firmware

Holly cow! Thank you thank you thank you!!!

EDIT: Dang, even download mode is easy! Wow!!! Awesome!
Hello there!
I have read through all the Boot loop posts before anyone asks!
My phone is stuck on the Samsung galaxy s2 boot up with the yellow triangle and the black "!" inside (Boot loop). This happened after flashing the wrong kernel on the device first time. Here is the thing, no matter how many times I try to flash the Kernel which I think is "KH1" (99% sure) in download mode with Odin and all the right drivers installed right from Kies, it still won't work! I've tried stock kernels, insecure kernels... you name it I've tried it!
The phone it's self will go into DOWNLOAD mode (which works fine) , but not RECOVERY MODE at all!
I have been trying for days to fix it, but nothing on here will work.
Please some one get back to me and try to help me fix this problem as I want to use my galaxy s2 again. :/
Thanks, Sam.

A link to what? Neither in this thread nor your original post in the correct thread have you said what happens when you flash with Odin (what errors, what messages, what options you're picking), what ROMs you've tried (I try to flash the Kernel which I think is "KH1" (99% sure) sounds rather flakey).
The full, detailed instructions are in the very first post, here in case you missed it.
If it doesn't work when you follow the instructions to the letter, explain in full what does happen and someone might be able to help you.

Alternatively, it is possible to flash VillainROM 1.1 if you are not comfortable in wiping via recovery, or if you cannot do so for any reason (corrupted kernel etc), as it wipes all users data when installing. Simply ignore steps 2 to 4, and flash VillainROM 1.1 via ODIN instead of the stock ROM.

Assuming you really do have an I9100, stock ROMs are here [ROM+Guide]Official i9100 Firmwares KG, KH1/2/3/4, KI1/2/3/4/8, KJ1/2 Download and you should probably be looking for a WIPE ROM, such as XXKI3:

If you try to flash a multi file firmware and checking re-partition it still fails? I had this by using one file firmwares. Go to Intratech's thread and download a multi file firmware with new bootloaders to get comletely stock. This can not fail.
I have found out that the most stable multi file is xxki3.
While flashing this that way you should not encounter any failures with Odin.

hi guys, any help would really be appreciated.. i think i have the exact same problem as op. let me articulate it in a slightly more clear manner:
1. i flashed an insecure kernel in order to get root access. somewhere along this process somehow something got messed up.
2. the phone is stuck in a bootloop. this shouldnt be a problem! simply flash stock rom/stock modem, enter recovery mode and do a reset!
3. uh-oh. recovery mode crashes instantly, and the endless bootcycle comes back.
4. ive tried using cwm recovery, stock recovery, both of these have failed.
5. download mode works completely fine (using odin 1.85)
im running the AT&T version of galaxy s2 i777, but posting on those forums havent really gotten a solution, with build version UCKH7. I've tried to find a "wipe" package for this build but although i can find stock PDA and stock MODEM, i cannot find stock CSC. in desperation, i have also tried flashing PDA/MODEM/stock PIT at the same time, but this also has not worked. someone on the i777 forums has recommended trying to flash a new bootloader, but im a little wary with taking that step. noone has done it before.
any ideas?
TL;DR: my phone is stuck in a boot loop, but unlike others, recovery mode crashes instantly before i can even explore any options, and reenters bootloop into main android.

What exactly are you putting into each section in Odin, and which settings are checked? How long does the process take? Did you ever (either when you originally messed it up or while trying to fix it) choose any of the pit/repartition settings? What did you originally flash to cause the problem in the first place?
Is it possible to get screenshots with phone connected before flashing and one afterwards with all the options you're using shown?
This thread mentions something I asked earlier as the solution but you didn't respond to. Have you tried a different USB port and reinstalled the drivers (in Kies: tools -> install driver).
Kies also has a "firmware emergency recovery" though I've got no idea what that does, or if it's recommended to try.

It takes like 2 seconds on this one, other kernels which I flash take about 30 seconds then say PASS, but still boot loops. I haven't choose any of the pit/repartition settings. I just flashed the wrong kernel from trying to root the device for the first time, but this just put it into the boot loop.
I am just putting the "New_Bootloader_GT-I9100_OXA_I9100XXKI3_I9100XXKI3_I9100OXAKI3.tar" in into the PDA and then pressing start. I can't put a screen shot up here though as it won't let me.
I have tried different USB ports and reinstalled drivers. I also tried "firmware emergency recovery" but kies doesn't connect to my phone.

To OP, have you tried this? If all of your attempts thus far have involved a single file, and no repartition, if could be worth a try with one of the packages which has PDA/Phone/CSC as separate files (as on Intratech's description here: http://img94.imageshack.us/img94/8290/odinxm.jpg). Failing that, you could try a ROM which comes with a PIT file to repartition the phone in case the partition table is somehow corrupt/damaged/incorrect, but you might want to consider that a last resort.
Hi,
Yes, stupid me went to think that I could get Andriod 4 on my phone that is an ATT i777 galaxy s ii.. and after that happened I found out I couldn't make calls. WOOT
So I followed Enthropy512's directions on how to unroot your phone and make it 100% stock. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1286432
Using ODIN, I collected the PDA -> PDA.tar, the MODEM -> MODEM.tar, and even the PIT file I777UCKH7.pit. Odin ran fine, passed, but no matter what combo I ran odin with the files above, it would always be stuck on the original i777 samsung galaxy s ii start up screen and NOT progress to the ATT screen.
I followed the instructions linked below to make my phone run andriod 4. It had a CSC file, which I have not yet been able to find for the stock. http://www.sammobile.com/2011/12/31/exclusive-2-new-android-4-0-1-and-4-0-3-roms/
I have tried to "enter recovery (this kernel has stock 3e recovery) and wipe data/factory reset"... but the button instructions do not lead to the recovery...it just leads to the samsung startup screen again.
Question:
1. How to get my phone to NOT be stuck on the samsung startup screen and return to stock?
2. Perhaps, not having a stock CSC file is causing this to happen?
3. Any other way to enter recovery and just make this back to stock?
Since the android 4 rom was leaked by samsung and didn't mess with the counter, I could just call warranty. Just wanted your guys input before I do so! Thanks in advance!
KP8 package may have included a bootloader, in which case you'll need to reflash it. Someone had a stock I777 bootloader somewhere.
BE CAREFUL. MESSING WITH BOOTLOADERS IS DANGEROUS.
Other possibility (try this first) - enter stock recovery and wipe data/factory reset.
KP8 didn't include a bootloader... Yea I read the risk of bootloaders... definitely dont want to mess with that...
Tried the hard reset 3x already.. it wouldnt get to the screen that allows you to do the hard reset...
would csc file do this?

No, that's just some files in /system that have no effect on the operation of recovery.
So you are unable to access recovery? That's odd...
How are you trying to enter recovery? 3 button combo should get you to stock recovery.
I'm not trying to pile on but no audio in calls is a pretty well known issue with ics on the I777 at the moment.
Sent from my SGH-I777 using XDA App
edit: my bad i thought he could get into recovery; can you get into downloader mode?
is your usb cable plugged in? I just cycle charging battery and loading circle when trying to go into recovery w/ usb cable plugged in, Sometimes it will go into download mode this way though... if I unplug the USB cable then it usually is a lot happier about going into recovery...
below this line is when i thought you could get into recovery and that the buttons didn't work from within recovery...
does adb work while in recovery? even though the buttons don't work, arn't there methods to reflash recovery via adb?
maybe using a diff recovery kernel would have working buttons??
gl i'll try to think of anything else,
I had messed up PIT one time doing something on the infuse and I had to try flashing the PIT several times, I can't remember what actually made it work... but I had a red error message in the 3e stating that the partitions were unaccesable so it was clear whether or not it had worked and i retried 2-3 times before it went away (that was the infuse though)
i don't know i'd try that pit again i'd try a kernel just to make sure you're not still on a 3.0 ICS 9100 kernel ..

You didn't do your homework. I downloaded the XXKP8 package from the link you gave, opened the PDA tar, and here is what is in it:
boot.bin
cache.img
data.img
factoryfs.img
hidden.img
param.lfs
sbl.bin
zImage
If you flashed that tar, you flashed the primative bootloader, the secondary bootloader and the param.lfs from the I9100. No wonder you are bootlooping.
We have access to sbl.bin and param.lfs for the I777. I am not aware of a boot.bin for the I777, however. At least I havn't seen it posted anywhere.
You can find the files that are available for our phones in the Download Repository.
Assuming that the file you flashed in the PDA slot was "I9100_CODE_I9100XXKP8_CL42141_REV02_user_low_ship.tar.md5", which is the tar I looked at, then for a start at trying to recover, I would flash the sbl.bin and the param.lfs back onto your phone and see what it does.
I found that there is a complete I777UCKH7 package available at www.sammobile.com. Log in. Click on the Firmware tab, then Smartphone, Android, SGH-I777, North America. Download contains "I777UCKH7-REV02-home-low-CL503881.tar.md5" and "SS_DL.dll". The tar contains:
boot.bin
cache.img
factoryfs.img
hidden.img
modem.bin
param.lfs
sbl.bin
zImage
I would suggest that you may be able to recover your phone if you flash this tar with Odin3 v1.85. Please be advised that there is always risk involved in flashing bootloaders and param files. This tar contains the primative bootloader, the secondary bootloader, and the param.lfs file, as well as the complete stock UCKH7 firmware for the I777.
Instructions:
Open Odin3 v1.85 on your Windows pc.
With the usb cable pluged into the pc usb port, but not the phone, and with the phone powered off, hold down vol+ and vol- buttons while plugging in the micro-usb plug into the phone.
In Odin3 v1.85 put the I777UCKH7-REV02-home-low-CL503881.tar.md5 file in the PDA slot.
So I am able to get into the download mode.. that's about it...
For the KP8, I was able to run it fine but no sound and mic for phone calls. The instructions on the link I attached didn't tell me to stick the boot file in the bootloader... so I didn't attempt to do that due to my fear of bootloader messing my phone up...
I tried those files you pointed me to for the I777 in sammobile. No luck. I'm just going to send my phone to warranty now.
Thanks everyone for their help!
Hi Guys
New YP-G70 owner.. love it so far, but I have a few questions:
-Am I right in thinkiing I can do anything with it as i can with a SGS apart from make a phone call, such as mod it, flash it and custom it with EX Launcher, Cyanogen or anything from the Google Market.
- Does anyone know what the latest English language firmware. I found this on SamFirmware,

but the 2.3.6 are for italy and sweden, when i do a search for UK firmware, the latest one is 2.3.5.. XXKPF, which says France.. can anyone advise.
Thanks

Also, is there a recovery file for it. My version is a YP-G70CW, which i believe is the international version.

I didnt use a .pit file, I just used the XXKPH file in PDA here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1574207
then clicked start and it failed, now its just sitting there as mentioned, but i have downloaded the 8gig international..235.pit file, i just havent done anything yet.
What should i do next?
Ok, had a dig around and I need to flash a kernel as well as the KPH file.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1574207
Is there a kernel available for stock KPH and do i need to use the .pit.
Thanks
Thank god.. Its Done.. Yep, its fixed through hard work, reading around, following advice given and much diligence. In the download mode I mentioned, I flashed using rjs Kernel which got it bootlooping, then flashed KPF in ODIN.. had to flash KPF twice, wiped Cache part > Dalvik Cache, fact. reset and reboot.. all done.
Because this has a built in battery, ill not be doing this again through odin.. ill use KIES, even if i have to wait 3 months for the release.
Its now 4.30am and im off to bed.
Thanks
Update... Im now on KPH236
Some questions about that flash:
When the flashing failed and i held holding the power button down for 10 seconds, thats when it booted into the other download mode (phone, triangle, PC), so would i be right in thinking this works like flashing a SGS and what bricks it would be:
- Installing US firmware on my EU player.
- Installing bootloaders for no reason or anything rom-wise from a SGS
- pulling the USB cable out when flashing OR closing down ODIN.
- Geting impatient and pressing/holding down buttons when still in download mode or flashing.
A few other questions:
- Is there anything else that I could do to protect it against a brick.
- As this is not a phone, can I go back to 235 if i want, just use ODIN with XXKPF 235 in PDA.
- If i do go back, Will I have to replace rjs kernel first with stock KPF kernel, then flash KPF ROM or can i just flash the rom and it will overwrite rjs.
- Googles search by voice doesnt work unless its wifi'd, as in finding something in the player like a song, a memo or contacts name, it just "connection problem" .. Is that normal, yet runs fine with wifi on.
The reason Im asking is because Kies keeps telling me there is a connection problem when i plug it in and it wont detect it.. Is this due to rjs kernel or is there another issue, just to put my mind at rest.
Thanks

Thanks

I will be extra cautious if a ROM has zImage (kernel) and/or bootloader in it. The consequence of a corrupted bootloader is obvious. A corrupted kernel can be problematic because the recovery mode comes with the kernel. If you messed up the kernel, you will loss your recovery mode as well.
Actually I hope more developers will publish their ROM in CWM flashable zip rather than Odin image. Since Odin basically dump the disk image to your device, any mistakes in the process will likely corrupt your device's partitions. In contrast, CWM flashing uses high level operations like file delete and copy to install the ROM (in most cases). It is much less risky than using Odin (if the developer knows what he is doing). Just my 2 cents.
So if i delete the "zimage" in a ROM and flash it, it will only flash the ROM? Also how do i know if it has bootloaders included?
Forgot to quote you but.... Cheers WT Ho, youve put my mind at rest and Im quite happy, that after my problems above, its not the player... rjs is nice and stable and boots really fast, so Im staying on KPH 236 and gonna upgrade through ODIN, not downgrade to KPF.. Have found the issues are with Kies not the kernel being recognised, alot of posts about Kies issues on various sites and forums. SamFirmware.com is my friend.. .

Yes you need a connection, heres why:

You can open an Odin ROM easily by using 7-zip. If it has md5, you will encounter a warning but that's fine.
For full ROM, you will see
boot.bin
cache.rfs
dbdata.rfs
factoryfs.rfs
param.lfs
Sbl.bin
zImage
Basically most custom ROMs will modify your factoryfs.rfs only. If you need a new kernel, zImage is also needed. All other files are related to boot or data partition (usually not needed). Therefore many ROMs only have zImage and factoryfs.rfs in them.
Although I haven't tried that myself, I think it is possible to just put the factoryfs.rfs in the tar file. That will be similar to the Odin package of rj's kernel, you will only see the zImage in the tar file.
Hey guys, I landed myself in a soft brick yesterday and odin wasn't working for me (which was a first). Then someone suggested I use Heimdall and it worked perfect. It brought me back to stock and I tried flashing CM7 from there. Now I am back in a soft brick but Heimdall is no longer working (and now odin doesn't even see my phone even though its in dl mode)
Here is what happens with the Heimdall process:
Uploading kernel...
Kernel upload successful
uploading Modem... <(this makes it no farther than 15%)
Modem upload failed!
Ending session...
If anyone has any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated!
If you get this fixed your may want to avoid CM7 / 9 or ICS for a while.
While flashing CM7 it may or may not have repartitioned your phone. The Heimdall error - is that from 1-Click or the full program?
Does Heimdall see the phone?
Maybe try the full Heimdall program with stock and repartition. Also try Odin again but on a different computer.
I had in instance where I couldn't get into Recovery - I had the ! sign. Odin didn't see the phone but Heimdall did. 1-Click error so I fired up the full Heimdall program and just flash a new kernel. Then restarted in recovery and went from there.
Yet another reason I stay with Froyo / GB and not CM7/9 or ICS. I want to keep a stock style of partition setup and avoid repartitioning the phone all the time.
I am using the one from the link you gave me here: http://www.filereactor.com/zcl1dy7zl...Click.jar.html
Where can I find the full version? NVM I found it my only question now is which files should I use for the flash? The same as what I would use with odin?
Also yeah tried different comps for odin... same thing :/ but heimdall can see it just fine
"I had in instance where I couldn't get into Recovery - I had the ! sign. Odin didn't see the phone but Heimdall did. 1-Click error" <<< Thats exactly where Im at
On a side note: I just said that same thing... after I get it back I'm done with this phone lol I'm sticking with my HTC's... I've NEVER had so many problems in my life, no I remember why I stopped updating my vibrant 6 months ago LOL!

Try leaving out the modem in the flash.

You cant with heimdall :/ I'm going to try using the full version like he suggested but cant find a working stock firmware link
This is getting extremely frustrating... Im reading the guide on heimdall and they say to add about 5 files but mine has nothing like that... I can only add the "heimdall firmware package" and the pit file :/ I tried getting the firmware file from sammobile but their download links dont work for some reason... nothing seems to ever go right with this phone

Yeah you can but you'll need the real version, and I'm pretty sure the new one is based on packages, so you may want to get the command line version.
Paraphrasing of course:
Code:
heimdall flash --kernel zImage --cache cache.rfs
--dbdata dbdata.rfs --param param.lfs
--factoryfs factoryfs.rfs
When you say full version are you talking about this?

also would you know where I can get the stock firmware other than sammobile?
It may have loaded a kernel for you via heimdall. Can you get to Recovery?
Im at work and cant check but - I think the Odin .tar package is just the Heimdall individual packages. Extract the odin image. You will also need the 512 pit file.
Heimdall should have come with instructions. That front end you will prob be working with the 2nd tab since you dont have a full Heimdall package.
Edit:
Also look for difference Odin versions. Sound silly but some folks got an older version to work.
