[Q] Wifi Direct Issues - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok so I'm having issues with sending files over Wifi Direct to another S3.
S-Beam works perfectly fine, so I can send an image, video or music to the other person.
File transfers e.g. PDF, Zip etc work fine from the other person's phone to mine
But
When I send files to the other person's phone they do not get a prompt asking them to accept/reject the file and it just sits in limbo not going anywhere.
Has anyone else experienced this or have any idea what might resolve it?
Side note: Sending files over Bluetooth works fine, however this is a lot slower.

Hello,
Are you using a custom ROM / kernel and have you rooted your phone?
I am having the same issue you described with Omega 6 ROM and Siyah kernel, but a friend with a stock un-rooted ROM has no issues.
Thanks

Yes i am .must be something to do with the rom or kernel

apparently not yet ...
it SEEMS to be linked to the radio issues in the custom roms (all).
wifi direct chip runs on the same hardware circuitry?
I have gone back to stock rom and am testing to see if it's the rooting or the custom roms that break it.
Will update you when I have some solid info. :crying:
Well, the verdict is in.
Used the S3 Toolit V2, did insecure boot image + ROOT and wifi direct is still working, after having flashed stock rom.
The fault lies in the custom ROMS.

Mine just sits there too, tried sending files to an s2 and the s2 never prompted to accept the files. I'm using stock but with cf root.

So wifi direct will not work on any custom roms?
I've been reading the other threads, and some are claiming that they have no problems with their wifi direct.

no request on a gs2 to accept the file i want to transfer as well.
even though i am on "stock" LF6 (but rooted)

Any update or workaround for solving this issue?

Well, There is no love for me with OMEGA 8.1 and stock Insecure kernel.
Let's make a list of ROMs and Kernels that have a working WiFi Direct.

Wanamlite 2.0 and stock kernel, wifi direct works
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app

Omega 11 - works perfectly

Same problem
I also am facing the same problem
I can receive files normally from other s3 and s2 devices but when i try to send, i select the device i want to send to, tick beside it, and when i press done nothing happens
i have tried with a friends s3 and his works fine
i am using the custome rom

Change rom to LG8 (with stock kernel) and it should work. It may be a custom rom but based on LG8 (omega for example).

Working now
I formatted my device and now wifi direct is working

I am having this EXACT same problem! My fiance and I are running the exact same model, and same software (Blazer ROM). I don't know what the problem is, because I did not have this problem with my friends S3. I used wifi direct to send the file for installing blazer rom directly to his phone by changing the extension from .zip to .flac, and because I can still receive files, I have NO clue what is broken or what to do!

Same WiFi Direct issues, but with stock ROM
I'm having similar issues trying to transfer between my rooted stock GS III I9300 and a galaxy tab(P3110) with CM9. The devices seem to be connecting initially but when I try to transfer something it doesn't work. It's actually doesn't mean anything because I don't see myself needing to that a lot(or ever). I'm just playing around. But since I know it doesn't work it bugs me. Kind of a "can't be unseen".

[Q] Bt issue

I have some problems with incoming Bt connections... For example, trying to send a file from my pc results in a "service not found" message.
Idea of how to fix this, without using apps like Bt file transfer and similar?
Sent from my Galaxy Ace on GLSMT 2.1 with XDA app.
Issue came after istalling new V6 Supercharger version (RC4). Nobody faced the same issue?
Edit: Posting this to help who may have the same problem (or not, who cares XP). Activating Bt just as soon as the phone boots up (before all apps/scripts/etc get loaded) makes it work correctly!
...though data connection won't work this way.
Wi-Fi works but no data. To have it run I have to reboot again without Bt (nor Wi-Fi) active.
I'm still trying to get to the point, because I really don't know how to get out of this (little but annoying) trouble.
Any help would be really appreciated, since I'd been blowing my mind on it in the past 2 days... >.>

Can't send files via Wifi-Direct to SGS2??

For some reason I can't send anything to my Galaxy S 2 via Wifi-Direct on my Galaxy S 3. But I can send anything from the SGS 2 to the SGS3. Just not the other way around. I have no frozen apps/services on either phone at all and no modified files. Except the kernel on my SGS2 has been flashed.
When I go to send a file from the SGS3 it just sits on 'Waiting to send file...' and nothing happens. If I disconnect on either phone the transfer says failed. If I try and send something from the SGS2 to the SGS3 it is received immediately. So why can't I send anything the other way around?
Filenames aren't too long, storage isn't locked etc. I've tried multiple files, has anyone else had the same problem?
Thanks a ton. I really don't want to have to wait ages to send things over Bluetooth when Wifi-Direct is 100x faster. :victory:

[Q] bluetooth voice command probs on android 4.3

Hi guys!
I've a problem but not sure it's pacman (the rom im using atm) fault..
It seems I can't make works the vocal commands on the phone while I'm connected with bluetooth (im using the one on car)..
With original cable headset and from phone I've no problems and Google now works.. But when I try to activate from car it isn't initialising and it stuck, freeze and sometimes reboot the phone
I spend lot of time in car for work.. Could be so nice if I can fix it.. Any suggestions?
i was reading around theres an app called "bluetooth launch" and saw on some phones u can solve the problem with this app using it to make launch com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox.voiceseachactivity, but on my sg2 seems isnt working..
i should try with diff setup but ive no idea how to, i can just keep try quite randomly..
any1 have an alternative solution or found wich one of the several option i should pick up?
for real none of you have this problem or can help me?

Well buddy never used any 4.3 roms because of lots of bugs. But you will never face this issue in Stock 4.1.2 jb roms. You can try Neatrom if you want.
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
so its a bug with all 4.3?
i'll have a look into Neatrom, was just hoping i could fix it withouth have to downgrade android
To be honest, I don't use bluetooth, although I am on a 4.3 ROM. Do you use dorimanx kernel? Or stock pacman kernel? I know dorimanx users are having troubles with bluetooth audio currently. So if you are using dorimanx, give it a go with stock pacman kernel.
If you are on pacman kernel, may as well try dorimanx (counter intuitive I know), and apolo kernel, you may as well give it a shot. Make sure you read the OP in each case to make sure you get the appropriate kernel version for your ROM.

I use dorimanx come i need bln!
BT in general is working, I can transfer files I can stream audio and make calls in my car
It's just the voice command part that isn't working on BT, but actually works with BT off

if 4.2.2 - 4.3+ better.. but well i could think to downgrade even more if theres a chance to get this sorted

Skype on 4.4/4.4.1?

I use voice chat on Skype a lot, but I also love the speed from 4.4.1 + crpalmer's kernel + bionic libs, however, there's one thing that's keeping me away from that speed, and that's voice chatting being broken on 4.4..Does anyone know a fix for this or know what kind of problem it is? Is it a 4.4 ROM problem or a kernel problem? Whether stock kernel or crpalmers, whenever I initiate a Skype call, it literally kills my ears, it makes this extremely loud screeching and static-y noise that never goes away unless I restart my phone...Anyone know what's up with this?
As far as I know, it's a hardware issue, and not a software issue. I was having the same issue with Newt's 4.2.2 GPE ROM. I got tired of the Skype bug and installed the Unofficial CM 11 (Before official was announced), and the issue was still there. I did an RUU to 1.15. Still had the issue. Installed Newt's GPE again, the problem isn't there anymore. So I'm assuming it's a hardware issue. If possible, take a look at the logcat when trying to voice chat on Skype. See if you see any errors regarding the microphone. I think it's just a fluke. Some people have the issue, others don't.
Its a kennel Issue I have the same Prob too

As far as I know, Skype audio has been working right in CM 11 since December 10th. Please tell me that you are running a more recent ROM than that.
For giggles, I just verified that I have no audio problems using the Skype test service either using the phone as a handset or using speaker-phone. I didn't bother trying headset or bluetooth as those were more likely to work in the first place.
If you still think that there is a software problem, please install the latest nightly of CM 11, do not install anything except Skype, do not restore anything, do not change anything (especially ART). Verify a problem using the test service and then provide a logcat in the CM 11 thread. Also, repeat the same steps with a stock ROM and verify that it works there.

Ditto (and, fyi, I doubt it is a kernel problem).
same problem. flashed the new 3.06 radio and still not working.
this is a real bummer, i use skype everytime im out of the country

No Sound In Call

My microphone and speaker are completely unresponsive when in a call. The microphone is working on every other app on the phone. I'm not sure how to test the call speaker without being in a call but every single other audio function on the phone appears to be working normally which suggests to me that this is a software issue. However, I recently had the micro USB port replaced so I assumed that it's a possibility that there is a hardware issue, I don't know enough to say one way or the other.
Prior to having my phone repaired I was running CM 13 and everything was fine, I wiped it before it went in for repair with the intention of flashing the latest LOS nightly build on return. After this I discovered the call audio issue. I then tried the previous nightly build, same problem. I then wiped and flashed CM 13 again and the issue persisted. I then left it for a few hours and came back to it and the call audio was working fine again, so I wiped it and flashed the latest LOS nightly build again, and the issue has returned.
I am completely out of ideas on this one, can anyone shed any possible light on this?
Edit: Clarify to add this is the kate model, I'm not sure how many or if there are any variants at all of this phone but mine is the SD650/3GB/32GB model.
You have a radio problem, because of the changes made in Android 6 and 7(please don't "bomb" me if I am wrong). I have the same problem. Does viber, Skype, whatsapp work ok? This was my temporary solution:when i install this rom(probably because of the radio) everything works fine

I just tested a WhatsApp call and have the same issue. Thanks.
I thought something was strange with that after reading about the issue a bit more, so I tried a Skype call, and the audio was working. I'm going to try the ROM you linked.
I can now say that the call audio is working fine with the Nexus Experience ROM, thanks for the help.
Can you (or anyone else for that matter) tell me if I would be able to install the latest LOS nightly along with that radio app provided there and call audio would work, or are they not compatible?
Can you please send me the link of Los you wrote about? I think that it would be OK,I will try
