I checked my stats with Badass Battery Monitor and under "Num Times Waking Device" Android System was highest with >50 wake-ups. I checked under "Included Packages" and there was "Google Bookmarks Sync". Also Maps was very high with >20 wake-ups, although I never use the app.
I went to Applications Manager and disabled "Google Bookmarks Sync" and Maps, and hit the "Force stop" button for both "Google Bookmarks Sync" and Maps.
I let the phone stand for several hours and then went back to Application Manager and scrolled down to see disabled services. There was "Google Bookmarks Sync" and Maps but both had "Force stop" button active, like the service was enabled, and I was right, the service was enabled even though it was marked as "disabled"!
How come you can't disable this stuff? It's draining the battery.
Am I the only one bothered by this?
Do you use lattitude?..if yes log out of it.. and turn of sync...

No I don't use Latitude and I have turned off all sync in Accounts & sync...
Google doesn't really allow you to disable their stuff. It just pretends to be disabled, still it's running. Tried freezing with Titanium Backup but still the same problem.

I have been bothered with this lately as well. I have an Amaze 4G, and it is rooted, stock ROM, and highly customized. I have been trying to determine the reason why there are days when the battery would run from 100% to 2% in a matter of 4 hours with the screen off while it is sitting in my office (doing nothing at all) at work. Most days there is no problem, but it is highly undependable as a device if the battery drains for no reason and at random times.
On my device, I've found that "Google Calendar Sync" has the same behavior as "Google Bookmarks Sync" on your device. I have tried freezing these apks, locking them out, force stopping it, turning off calendar sync and then doing all of it again, everything short of just pulling the apk out myself. Nothing has worked so far. When I get some time this week, I am going to do a Nandroid then reboot and pull all the calendar and calendar dependency files (Calendar, Calendar Sync, Calendar Storage) and then I'll see what happens. Personally, I don't care about having the Google Calendar, so no worries. I'm just assuming that something else isn't going to work properly when I pull all the Calendar files out. I will report back after I try it.
Also, I don't understand why "Google Services" and "Android System" apks need to wake the device so many times. I would think there would be a setting to adjust the sync rate (I'm assuming sync is waking the device) but there isn't a way to do that natively. And even testing it with sync turned completely off, I noticed a higher wake rate than what should normally occur. Perplexing.

Is there anyway to use any calendar related features on the Atrix without it syncing to Google? I've searched the internet for answers, searched the device for settings...and I always get the same result. Under Settings > Accounts > Other Accounts heading > "My Google Gmail account" the tick box next to Sync Calendar is UN-ticked. Yet, no matter what calendar app I use, eventually everything shows up online in Google calendars. So I go back and check the tick box and its still cleared. I put a test event online in Google calendars, and in less than a minute it's on my phone. Is there a setting I'm overlooking here?
thanks
Have you tried Calendar(app)>menu>more>calendars ?

Yes, but If I 'un-sync' it there, the whole calendar disappears from phone. I want to use the calendar on my phone, but not have it sync to Google. There's only 3 options there, but not a 'Visible, not synced' option. Only 'not synced, not visible'. The only way i can stop it from going to Google is turn on Airplane mode, but that's pretty pointless, and it just syncs as soon as I turn it off. It doesn't appear that sync settings under accounts do anything on my phone. This is my first Android device, so maybe that's just how it is?
Hello
The stock gmail app does not sync. It does not even push. Have to manual refresh to receive mails. Wots the problem?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
Settings/Accounts and sync/click on gmail account check that Gmail is ticked.
You prolly have the phone go into power saving mode when the battery drops to 50%.
When it goes into power saving mode, autosync turns off.
If u want autosync most of the time, then change power saving mode to 10%.
Even more funny with mine:
since yesterday 6.30 pm stock email app won´t do anything anymore, not even manual sync. Sync circle stays forever. Worked some minutes before faultless.
Tried to register server newly with my gmail address but green bar stayed forever ........
Clicked "cancel", went back to mail app and mail app told me: "account or password wrong"
It´s now completely dead. Tried to switch off, batt off, clear cache but it is dead .................... Google Gmail app works flawless as well as calendar, docs and all othet google account related apps.
Only thing I dedected: when I look into system - running apps - under Samsung mail app it says "Reboot" ???? (in German NEUstart) ...................
Wonder if anyone has an idea how to solve THIS ?
Am I stupid or what ?
I don´t find the register in the menu where I can SELECTIVELY and ONLY delete the account for the samsung stock email app .......................
Am I blind ?
Just for Info (I´m SOOO stupid)
Open stock mail app, long press on Gmail left upper box, choose "delete".
Then register same account again, voila, it works again ..........
(Found it in a German forum .......................... )
I have probably the same problem, although it could be something different. Teh gmail sync can be turned on under Accounts&Sync menu, but it turns off every time I reboot / turn-off the phone. I am using CM7, but I am not sure if this problem is CM7 related... I have reflashed GAPPS but it didn't help.
am facing the same problem not only my gmail does not sync properly, my whatsapp msgs are coming in really slow. am gonna try to delete the account and sign in again. see if it helps.
In my case deleting account didn't help. It still happens for some reason that the Gmail sync doesn't work and when I go to Accounts & Sync preferences I just see that the Gmail sync dialog box is unchecked. So, then I just check the box and it starts working until it, due to mysterious reasons, stop syncing and I need to repeat the process to start the sync again.
Do you have the battery saving feature enabled and if so check the settings.
Because one of the settings (I don't know which because I disabled the useless thing) disables sync or at least it did on my phone.

I have CM7 ROM and I don't use any other special tweaks or settings. The thing is only gmail stops syncing. When I open the sync settings (Accounts & Sync) I often find gmail unchecked, but contacts and everything else syncs just fine. When I set the gmail to sync, everything works until I restart my phone (I have it turned off overnight...).
Hope it described my problems well enough. I have already tried reflashing ROM, GAPPS, deleting my account, cache and all kinds of things I was able to think of. Nothing helped.
I couldn't find such setting. If you mean wi-fi sleep policy I have it set to never. The thing is Gmail sync box is being constantly unchecked whenever I turn off an on again my cell phone...
Hello,
I own Samsung Galaxy S3 (GT-I9300) 4.1.2 with a root enabled. I've noticed that my Google account sync settings may suddenly reset. For example, I go Settings - Accounts - Google - <my account> and tick "Sync Calendar", "Sync Contacts", "Sync Gmail". Then I press "Sync now". Everything is ok so far. Now I can do my business, switching between applications, browsing, reading. If I then decide to check the Sync settings, everything will be ok, everything that I checked before stay checked. Even shutting down the phone and turning it on will keep these settings intact. At least, for the first check. The second or the third check already shows me that only "Sync Contacts" is enabled, but Calendar and Gmail are off.
What the heck?! Does anybody know what's wrong with my Android?
It's not the problem anymore I've realized what is responsible for that. It's Juice Defender app. Good app, I just didn't get the full understanding of one of its feature called AutoSync. Sorry for that.
I noticed that recently some new Google account sync options have appeared in Android. Take a look at the attached screenshot.
I now see the following listed as sync options:
- Cloud Print
- Game Data
- Game Data
- Google Play services
- Location Reporting and Location History
- Push subscriptions
- YouTube
These all have parenthesis in front of them unlike the regular sync options. I know most of these services were already active before they showed up here. But now I'm just curious why they are here and if this has happened to anyone else. Is there anything else I need to know about this? And also what is "Push subscriptions"?
Same here, don't know what's these doing, I just simply disable all of them, as I don't think I had any thing need to sync with these * options.
What is really annoying is that "push subscriptions" cannot be turned off manually. It starts up now and then.

I agree it's damn irritating. For me it seems to start up again every time I reboot and since I flash CM nightlies I reboot my phone almost everyday.
You mean they are restored only after reboot. That's far better than me. Cus no reboot is needed
push subscriptions / gmail sync
i have turned off sync push subscriptions but found that gmail then stopped with pushing emails (only manual refresh worked - autocync on, mobile data on, no restrictions). setting back on sync of push subscriptions recovers gmail push sync and now all emails are syncing immediately...
hqs anyone figured out what "sync push subscriptions" is? I turn mine off, then they automatically turn back on, and I dont even reboot?
Same problem here... some sync options automatically turn on, if any sync option is enabled. Any solution to this?
tl;dr: is there something like "sync threads" or timers on Android 8 that could have stopped for whatever reason, and how do I start them?
I have a problem wherein sync of various apps stopped working days after a fresh install. Unfortunately, I do not know what I changed at the time it stopped working, but I do have some additional information:
It all started when I noticed that DAVDroid was not syncing.
I then discovered that Firefox was also not syncing, but when I hit the button in the sync settings, it actually forced a sync, and a toast was displayed "auto-sync timers have been started". It seems that this is actually a message issued by TaskWarrior, as that's the only hit for that phrase on the Web. Shortly after hitting that button, Firefox synchronised, and DAVDroid sync also started working.
Unfortunately, my device switched between access points during a subsequent sync, and since then, syncs have no longer been working, and I also cannot get Firefox to sync at all, nor can I get this "auto-sync timers" message back.
And yes, I've rebooted the device several times to no avail… :crying:
Do you have any idea what the issue could be?
Is it possible that there is something like a sync thread on Android, and those are somehow not running properly? How could I fix that?
