So I upgraded from a GSII and on my old device, there was a display setting that allowed you to change the phone screen to different modes, i.e. "Normal", "Dynamic", etc. I remember reading up on the GSIII before it came out and recall that they were touting a new screen mode called "Natural" that displays content and color saturation more realistically.
I wanted to test this out but on my Tmo GSIII, I don't even see the changing of screen modes as an option? Previously it was under settings > display settings > change screen mode. Am i missing something or did Tmobile completely disable this feature for some odd reason?
It's missing on my Sprint variant too. I guess the US models don't have them.
I have the 2 version the i9300 and the i747 and this option is missing on the i747. Any way to activate this?
I'm also interested in knowing whether there is a way to get "natural mode" on US GS3s. Anyone knows?

I know this isn't what you're looking for - but - if you can't find it, take a look on the playstore for an app called Display Brightness - it has the icon of a yellow lightbulb. You can place a fine line along any edge of your screen and simply move it up or down to adjust the brightness. You don't have to leave what you're doing and I find it wonderful when I suddenly go out in the middle of the day and can't see a thing - at least I know where the control is.
I I really love the way this works for auto brightness over what Samsung did. However, if anyone else is using it can you see if you are having this issue as well?
Once installed, swipe your friends list out from the edge. Does the screen still blur in the background? Mine does not, it all works but the background stays in focus. Weird how that would affect it but it does for me. I was just wondering if anyone else experienced the same.

I think it is because Lux uses an overlay (a semi-transparent filter over the screen) for some of the features.
The Samsung friends feature probably uses an overlay to blur the background. There are cases where Lux conflicts with other apps which use overlays and then one doesn't work.
Probably worth mentioning it in the Lux thread to make the developer aware.

Thanks, Makes sense. I just posted there. I did not know they had a forum here for the app. I had emailed them with no response.
Hello,
I just picked up an S9+ and I think it's great. I'm coming from having had a variant of the MotoX line for the past 4 years (MotoX (1st Gen) and MotoX Style/Pure).
I really like my new S9+, but there are two features in particular I REALLY miss from the MotoX. I'd like to know if there's anyway at all to get the S9+ to have the following:
1. What Motorola called "Active Display", and what I think Google now calls "Ambient Display". The functionality of Active Display is SO much better than Samsung's "Always On Display". Mainly that in Active Display you can preview incoming alerts without actually having to go to the lock screen or unlock the phone.
2. Gestures. On the MotoX line, you could use various gestures to activate functions on the phone. The best one was "twist" to activate the camera. Yes, I know a quick double tap of the power button on the S9+ will activate the camera, but a quick twist is slightly faster.
Anyway, if there's any possible way at all to work these features into the S9+ please let me know!!
Thanks everyone!

You can install a different always on display from the play store
Hey, I also came from a Moto. Did you get any solutions?
Found this setting under the hood, don't think it does anything on this phone but was wondering if anyone knows anything about it.
It won't change anything as 120hz is hardware based.
yup that's what I figured. didn't know for sure though as this phone shares a lot of features from the flagship lines (45w fast charging and hdr10+, for instance) . didn't know if the soc/screen supported it even though it wasn't available to change in the settings interface.

It's the digitizer frequency, not the screen refresh rate
I would advice you to turn that on as it improves the response time and overral smothness
And where is this setting?
Thanks

it's accessable as an activity, it's still present but a couple updates ago it's been deactivated on this phone. the on/off slider is grayed out.
I tried these 2 modes:
settings put secure display_cutout_hide_notch 1
settings put system op_camera_notch_ignore 1
Nothing worked.
Reason: OS cuts out more pixels than actual cutout killing my useful space. (verically and horizontally).
I want OS to set cutoit to NONE as if there is no cutout.
ALTERNATIVE: How to set custom size cutout without root?
Seems it's a complete hit or miss depending on the phone manufacturer and even model.
I have 2 Note 10+'s, one running on 9, the newer on 10. The both look and behave almost identically though. Under the hood though it becomes apparent Samsung went to great lengths to accomplish this on the Q variant. The Q variant has dozens of new small system apks to achieve this. They don't appear to reduce battery life or performance at all.
Then I saw this. It's nuts. Be glad you don't have that phone!
I'm pretty sure there is an option in developer options.
To enable just go to about phone find build version and spam tap it around 10 times then go to dev options and it "should" be there
If it's a samsung, it might be hidden. But My old ANDR11/OneUI3.1 device shows it.

The Problem is, in Dev.options I see "Default, Corner, Double (Top&Bottom), Narrow (narrower but taller)".
I don't see None option. Usually if you don't, you stillmight find that in hidden Engineer Menu but that is too much of a hassle for a possibility.

Setting it to none would cause lots of issues I believe.
