[Q] US Sprint Galaxy S3 Root? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I received my Galaxy yesterday from Sprint. Can anyone point me in the right direction for a root for the US Sprint version of the Galaxy S3? Not the International version root. Thanks

Well a place to start to look would be the Sprint GS3 forums.. They have one of those now ya know.. ;-)

That's the first place I looked before posting this. I will check tomorrow. The US version has only been out 24 hrs. So, there might not be one yet.

QBKing77 has the best videos on the subject matter. Good luck.

Thanks. Watching it now. It's specific to Sprint which is what I was looking for. Thanks again.

Root Sprint GS3 on Mac or Ubuntu
I'm looking for a tutorial to root the Sprint GS3 on a Mac or Linux(Ubuntu) and can't find one. Does anyone know if there is a tutorial for this out there?
Thanks

Have Bell Note - Will Provide Files

To all the people on this forum much smarter than me - I will give you as much support and information as I can in order to get a working root exploit on this badboy. As of now, zergrush and gingerbreak are aboard the SS Fail. I actually managed to snag the only Galaxy Note for Bell shipped to my city, but can't properly "move in" to the phone until we get root and thus I get Titanium up and running.
Say the word, and I'll provide whatever I can to the cause. It is the same model of phone that AT&T is getting.
**Edit: Would post this in the dev forum, but I've pretty much lurked XDA for years and never really got around to posting much...so I'm still not allowed.

That would have been a mistake. You can post system dumps etc in dev section but you cant post "you are willing to" dev section = post actual content , well dev content..

Working NFC?
Does the Bell Rom have working NFC? can this be ported over to the AT&T rom?
I can confirm NFC is operational in the Bell ROM that ships with the device. Funny thing is, nobody is advertising this phone has NFC up here.

Highly doubt it since it hasn't been released in Canada and even friends who have the Galaxy Nexus couldn't get it online but I'll give it a crack in a bit.

Honestly, I'm not using the phone for anything right now. Till we get a working root, I can't move out from my XT860 (aka, Droid 3 GSM) because of a few apps I use day to day that require root.

Why not just sell it to me then...lol! Negri has the Unlocked Bell version and I am thinking about it...I like the clean no carrier branding on the front. Waiting to hear more feedback.

So skyrocket root is not working here? I was one of the few that updated my skyrocket to 2.3.6 once the update came out. Then lost interest in rooting. I thought I saw where they can root 2.3.5 or 2.3.6 now?

I saw one of the guys mentioned the skyrocket method killed his phone. I'm not sure about you... But I'm not too keen on trying that one.

Ouch! Yep better to wait until someone gets it rooted!
Da_G is hard at work as we speak. I've committed my full support for sending along the Bell ROM when he's ready for it.
Have you guys tried following the post in a thread in the Intl Note forum to root it yet?

Seems like you need the Tegrak kernel.

I've tried all of dr.ketan's methods with no luck. Our kernel is newer apparently and I don't quite want to wade into the waters of Odin since I'm not as well versed as some of the people here.
Yea rooted kernel will happen ... Soon enough

Flashing to Boost question

So, I am selling my and my wife's E3Ds and the person who wants to buy them wants to know if I can flash them to be used on Boost. I just did some quick Googleing, but only found people who said they did it but no information on how.
Is this something that is doable and worth my time? Has anybody around here done it?
Side note, I tried searching but when I do my app FCs. :-\ Idk why...
Thanks in advance.

Yes it can be done. Is it worth it well that's up to the user. Google search it and you will find all you need. FYI none of the guides you will find will be complete you have to read between the lines.

Yes it can be done, but the process usually requires a Boost CDMA Device, to get the account started etc, etc here is a tutorial at youtube.
youtube . com/watch?v=YKNij__qnL4&context=C4ed6835ADvjVQa1PpcFNWXJOX-Us_xgNsD4ANVTCsVRs9O6FxTas=
Ended up selling them to someone else who didn't need them on Boost.
Thanks anyway though.

First post your firmware details; Goto Settings - About phone, and post everything you see
If you're talking about the Galaxy S, you're in the wrong forum, mate. Irrespective, there isnt any 'good' or 'bad' ROM, try some of the more popular ones from the Android development section.
As for video walkthroughs, there are a fair few videos on youtube. I'd post links but I'm not sure if thats against the forum rules. PM me if you want em. Although, the guides provided here on xda itself are good enough. You've got root and CWM, thats probably the biggest hurdle overcome right there
Read up about
Cwm
Odin
4.0.4 brickbug
then rooting and flashing kernels/roms
Ill post my details when i get
Because i have come from a iphone im struggling with it,i did look on youtube and could only find videos from the states at&t and sprit and didnt know if it would be the same for me

Need the most up-to-date root method

I just traded my Evo 3D for an S2 today, and I've been looking for a root guide, but every time I come across one I read about issues.
Really all I want is some to point me to the most recent, successful, and stable root method. I keep reading about all these kernels screwing up phones cause they're not the most recent kernels. So can someone please help? The most recent root method as of February 23, 2013?
SCH-i777 (AT&T)
ICS 4.0.4
Baseband version: I777UClK3
Kernel: 3.0.15-I777UCLK3-CL1174199
Thanks!
-UPDATE-
Only a few minutes after posting this, I decided to take a gander at the Siyah website.
Wuold SiyahKernel S2-v5.0.1 work?

Trust me, I did plenty of searching. I honestly couldn't find anything that was confirmed working perfectly. Just trying to be safe. Thanks though!
First of all are you sure its att galaxy s2? Or is it international s2
We have these things called stickies that appear at the top of each forum. Really good sources of info if you take the time to read them.

The first guy helped me.
And yes, Lol. Im not stupid. The i777 is AT&T.
You said you searched and that is fine and all, but Root processes don't change too much unless the exploit is closed for some reason. Seems Exynos is your answer. If not, then Search is.
Since the first guy helped you, then this thread is closed.
