Hi all, quick question on flashing rom - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone,
I have read most posts regards flashing new os to my phone but i was wondering if there is a walk threw or video on how to do it?
I came from iphone and so far i have managed to root my phone and i belive the clockwork thing i need to flash the op is on.
Any guides or suggestions would be great. Im fine with using a pc but trying to learn all this new android stuff is confusing me.
Also can anyone reccomend a good rom for my UK galaxy S?

First post your firmware details; Goto Settings - About phone, and post everything you see

If you're talking about the Galaxy S, you're in the wrong forum, mate. Irrespective, there isnt any 'good' or 'bad' ROM, try some of the more popular ones from the Android development section.
As for video walkthroughs, there are a fair few videos on youtube. I'd post links but I'm not sure if thats against the forum rules. PM me if you want em. Although, the guides provided here on xda itself are good enough. You've got root and CWM, thats probably the biggest hurdle overcome right there

Read up about
Cwm
Odin
4.0.4 brickbug
then rooting and flashing kernels/roms

Ill post my details when i get
Because i have come from a iphone im struggling with it,i did look on youtube and could only find videos from the states at&t and sprit and didnt know if it would be the same for me

My GS2 from AT&T

Ok guys I read the newbies posts and the Q.A's and Im alittle confused on where to start. I would like to root my GS2. but dont know with which software? Also what are the advantages and disavantages of rooting your phone? and is it possible to devert back to orginal software 2.3.6 after rooting? Is it possible to BRICK your phone? I came from apple and can tell you everything about jailbreaking but dont have a clue about rooting or where to start? Is there ICS for my phone and if so is it stable? Also is it possible to get paid apps for free like the Iphone?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I'm currently on Android 2.3.6
Model # SGH I727 ( AT&T).
Thanks

Dumb Queston but Please answer Respectfully

I just "updated" my Galaxy Note by using Odin to install the new leak 4.0.4 and was wondering if somebody could point me in the best direction for rooting my device. Not a "noob" but I'm new to Samsung in general. I don't want to brick my device or possibly mess it up in any way. Also I would like to be able to install further releases of leaked roms and root again. Any advice and information would be helpful. Thank you

You are respectfully asked to read the stickies that answer your dumb question
as far as i know you need to flash clockworkrecovery odin version, after that you can use cwm to flash superuser file that will give you root. read "official" leak thread, it has been covered few times.
Thank you. Figured that would be the response lol I'll do that

Everything begins with ODIN. Flash Leak thru ODIN then flash CWM recovery thru ODIN. Then download the SU 307.zip and flash thru CWM. That is all you need to do to root your phone. You should be able to do everything in less than 15-20mins.

Rooting Question

Hello all,
I am finally back after being on apple after 9 months and it feels great. I had a question about if there is a root avaiable for the galaxy s3. I havent rooted any devices in months and trying to get back into the groove to it again. Just wondering does anyone recommend a link that can answer all FAQ's about the phone? Thanks in advance. Also is there any recommendations on apps , ROM's , etc?

You're using a Sprint GS3, different model/hardware.
Flashing anything firmware related from this forum will probably brick your ****.

This is the forum for the AT&T version of the Samsung Galaxy S2 (SGH-I777). You have a Samsung Galaxy S2 I9100.
You should browse this forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1055
Hope this helps. Sorry other people only pointed out faults rather than helping. I recommend reading all the sticky notes regarding rooting before you ask questions. Do your research before you attempt anything. Best of luck rooting the phone.

The reason most point out the fail is simple. The different forums have words differentiating one phone from another.

I understand that. However, there is no reason for anyone to rude about it. It would have taken an extra 2 seconds to tell OP why his post was a "Fail". I get every new comer to XDA will ask the same questions over and over. If you (not you Phalanx7621 directly, I mean users here in general) don't have anything to post that will solve OPs issue, why bother wasting your time posting anything?

Whatever man. All I wanted to convey was that even though OP posted in the wrong forum, there should still be some level of decency to tell OP why, even if the latter sentence is "Fail on so many levels" and have a mod close this thread.
Request for Mods: OP posted this in the wrong forum. Please close this thread. Thank You.
We do report threads. But maybe you don't realize how often this happens. Its irritating to us because it could have been avoided by simply looking to see what forum you're in. which isn't really too much to ask. I agree, extremely rude responses aren't appropriate, but everything most of us say is light hearted and not meant to be taken too seriously

Roots better then nothing. There is quite a few things you can do with root, xposed framework, titanium backup, root explorer. There is also safestrap which allows you to install custom roms.

Besides root, look at Safe Strap.
For ME7 its the work around for getting past the locked bootloader.
It will allow you to flash roms and more.

You are correct. A factory reset will not change your baseband version. You'd need to flash it in Odin to change it.
