Check this out!! Thank GOD For My Amaze :-) - HTC Amaze 4G

Tooling around XDA, I checked out the HTC One X forum - Beautiful device, but
First thing is I found there is a WiFi and general signal strength issue, BUT... that ain't all, check out what it takes to open that bastard, must see .... take a couple minutes and watch

Freakin' Amazing

seems like HTC build quality is lacking as of late

HTC build quality is always lacking. HTC light bleed, flash leaking, squeaky chassis (remedied with a piece of microfibre behind the battery

HTC seems to get so close to greatness, but misses the target. Light bleed, cover that does not fit as tightly as it should and creaks, weak wifi. Don't get me wrong I love my Amaze, it's a far better device than the S2, just wish HTC would hit one out of the park.

The only way they're getting that chance again is if they fix all the slip ups they keep making.
Sent from an Amaaaaaazing place :-D

I find it confusing that the connectors that the hox uses are the same as ours, but that's where the blame is being laid on. I guess their case can just get warped to a greater extent than our creaky one can?

Maybe I got lucky, but I don't think so, I ordered mine first day they went on sale Oct 10/11 - I have had No creaky case/hardware issues whatsoever, even with a "battery cover replacement" this year, still as solid as when brand new, the additional cover is just as solid as the original.
I think the Amaze is easier to open than my MT4G was.

I also noticed that the offending connectors on the hox are in the exact same place as two of ours.
Calico, did your amaze come with any screen bleed at all? Just curious

Yeah had a little screen bleed, that's about it - but that's an easy fix especially now.
I remember there was a bit of panic for a few peeps on the Amaze forum in the first few weeks, it was funny as heck - at least as far as I was concerned

Be patient. It's not easy to out-smart HTC. We can get temp root. That's easy! But the thing keeps rooting itself when we reboot. It's not permaroot but it's a start. Just coming from a Vibrant, I'm glad that I made the switch to HTC! Even without root this phone is much better to use in my opinion.
It took over two months to get S-Off for the Sensation.

As others have said, be patient.
Recently, HTC has made their devices hard nuts to crack, but every one of them has been cracked.
I had a Vibrant and seriously considered getting the SGS2, even after I swore I would never buy another Samsung phone, because of the GPS and update debacles. I went into the T-Mobile store to play with both, first I grabbed the SGS2 and played with it for a while. The first thing that I thought was, "Ok, this is a bigger, faster Vibrant. I don't really want another Vibrant".
Then I picked up the Amaze, and the first thing I thought was, "Holy crap! This thing is beautiful!". After going back and forth between the 2 for about 10 minutes, it was clear to me, that the Amaze was just a higher quality device. It is going on a week of me having it and I have absolutely no regrets.
Sure I'm disappointed that wifi calling isn't supported yet, and that they are starting to play games with wireless tether, but those things are software, which means they can be changed/fixed. What cannot be changed is hardware. The aluminum case of the Amaze feels and looks wonderful. I know there are a lot people gripping about aspects of the screen, but I think it is excellent. Anyone that is surprised that the AMOLED display is a little better than the SLCD, hasn't been paying attention over the last year or so. Just because it's a little better, doesn't mean the SLCD is bad. Because it is bigger than the Amaze screen but has the same resolution, the pros and cons of it pretty much cancel each other out, in my opinion.
Root and S-OFF will come.

Feels Good, Looks Good, Great screen and Fast, no lag
I will root and S-Off simply to remove bloat and be able to install some root apps. This is one Fast, Smooth device.
S-Off comes when it comes, the bloat has no effect, just have no use for all that stuff, and want the icons outta here

What worries me is the development section looks quite scarce compared to the Evo 3D or even the sgs2. It's hard to have faith in the developers when there are so very few that have come out and said they have an Amaze.

Perhaps but that picture was taken prior to it's release. I doubt that it's a case for two reasons...
What cases were available prior to the release of the phone? Cases are just now coming out and look nothing like that.
I doubt that anyone showing off a phone would prevent potential investors or customers from seeing the entire phone (in the nude so to speak)
So with that said... why would they purposely create the screen bleed issue?
yeah thats some early version of our device,
though the lack of screen bleed doesnt surprise me considering when at near-max brightness its not noticeable
To be honest I love the Amaze as it is and I am AMAZE at the quality and build...I came from a regular HTC Desire that I still love and Mod...
We need Guardian Bob from the captivate forum to hook us up with a version of his keep the lights on app. It allows you to turn the button lights off also. HTC M7 Spec and Speculation Thread

http://htcsource.com/2013/01/new-pictures-of-the-htc-m7-and-sense-5-reveal-new-details/#That's right folks, it's been but a few months since the release of the DNA and we are already seeing HTC propose a new flagship device that will supposedly launch in 2013!
Everything below here is subject to change
The Specs (what we think we know)
-4.7 ' 1080p "Solux" Display
-32GB internal memory
-13mp camera
-2mp front facing camera (capable of 1080)
-2,300 mAh battery (no word on removability)
-aluminum uni-body chassis
-2GB of RAM
-468ppi
-1.7Ghz quad core Adreno processor
-4G LTE support (don't think I had to mention this one)
-Jellybean OS
-Possibly Sense 5
-Possible 4-carrier support
-Beats audio integration
Expandable memory options are not yet known but are most likely non existent
What I think right now is we will see this show cased at Mobile World Congress.
I will update this thread as news comes out about this beast and openly encourage whomever may read this to correct any errors I have made
Feel free to discuss any aspects about the phone in this thread, any speculation regarding anything about HTC and the M7's release, marketing, pricing, and "downfalls" is absolutely welcome so long as disrespect for other users is completely non-existent.
Update 1/21/2013:
Sorry for not updating way sooner however I have been busy!
Some new pictures surfaced recently of the M7, purportedly running Sense 5, which as some of you know has not been released yet. Pictures are here!
Furthermore, there have been some more rumors which indicate a possible announcement of this handset at MWC!

Technologically, it is a beast but it is hamstrung by a lack of storage and a questionable battery. Whether HTC or Verizon is to blame we'll never know. Either way, it missed the mark. Was Verizon. HTC wouldn't release the butterfly with the storage and omit it in the US. Verizon wishing everyone was streaming it more likely the culprit. Tis true, lots of people were upset. The DNA isn't a bad device, just limited.

I agree with what you are saying for the most part. I agree it got blasted for its "small" battery before it was even used by anyone, which put a sour taste in a lot of mouths. After owning mine since the week after launch, I have nothing but amazing things to say about the numerically "small" battery. I was skeptical at first, but it turned out far from questionable for me, and the added rigidity of the non-removable back is great. I hate squeaks and creeks.
The storage gripe I completely understand. Personally it has had no effect on me, but I can sympathize for those who need/want more, especially in a day and age where file sizes are massive and people spend multiple hours on their phones.
Sent from my HTC Droid DNA
Apparently the chipset is substantially different; dedicated chip for camera and special LTE chipset which has lower power requirements (as on the DNA). I'm very nervous about a non-removable battery, but I've always been OCD about that with multiple chargers and always carrying a spare battery in my briefcase. I'd also really like to see removable storage (since I have a 64g card in my Rezound).
Most importantly, however, will be the ability to unlock the bootloader and an easy way to S-OFF. My upgrade period starts around May of 2013 and hopefully by then there will be alternatives to stock for the device. I bought my Rezound the second day it was available and the first few months of no-root were painful, even though the devs came up with a temp root within a couple of weeks. If HTC and Verizon Wireless lock things down, I'm going to look elsewhere.
The non-removable storage is a total troll move by Verizon. They push you to a tiered data plan, then minimize your storage capabilities and tell you to use cloud storage forcing you to buy more data. Up yours, Verizon.

I could live with the "small" battery as I'm never far from a charger for long. The storage was the deal breaker for me. I work a lot of 12 hour shifts, no WiFi at work, and like to have plenty of music on hand. Also, having kids, it'd tick me off if in the middle of shooting a video I'd run outta space and lose recording a memory.

If its multi carrier it might be worth looking at. I want the note 2 so bad but I don't want that low ppi. I'm hoping the note 3 will be 1080p. However, after this one, im never buying a carrier specific phone again. And I'd almost prefer not to buy HTC phones since other manufacturers are doing better with long tern updates now. But I do love the premium feel. Just depends. But those specs are sick.
So much for HTC sticking to their game plan of spamming less phones in the market. Company is going to be RIP at this rate.

Well I think this is a great opportunity for them. When has "spamming" the market really gone horribly for a manufacturer? I don't hear Samsung complaining about their Galaxy line up...or Moto complaining about their Droid Razr line up. I think HTC has been too conservative with releasing devices and I think it's time they change up their game. Anything for them right now would most likely be a saving grace

Is the HTC Droid Incredible 4G LTE a good phone?

I know this question could be answered in many different ways. More along the lines of people saying yes it is a good phone since I'm asking in this forum Lol. But O figured its better asking people here on XDA about the device since I know people here adore their device and use it in every way possible....So how is this phone? How is the battery, camera, speed of the phone etc etc. Im looking into buying one for my wife. She has the incredible 2 and is ready for a new phone and I can get it for a pretty good price. To her, she wouldn't probably notice anything like I would about the phone. But I still wanna make sure she has a nice phone to have. I'd appreciate it if I could get some responses to this. I've done research on the phone. I know most the stuff about it. But like I said, I wanna know from people here on XDA. Thanks

Short answer - IMHO, Yes.
I came to this phone from the OG Dinc. When I bought this phone, it was the only 4G phone smaller than 4.3 inches. I do not want a big phone. The OG Dinc was better made than the Dinc4g, but it the only real annoyance is the creaky back cover issue. WIth a little tape and a few post-it notes, it isn't a big deal (fix instructions/pictures here). I could be wrong, but I think the OG DInc camera was a little better, but the 4G camera is still good.
Other than the creaky cover, it has been a great phone. Radio is good, the phone is quick and smooth. The 4G is amazingly fast, battery life is very good (as long as you have a decent signal). I rarely use WiFi.
Now with DirtyRacun s-off and root, the phone is even better. There are several active Devs doing great work on this phone: We have two different recoveries to choose from (CWM or TWRP). The ViperLTE ROM is rock solid and has great tweaks. If you're a CM lover, CyanogenMod 10.1 is in Unofficial Preview, and based on the thread comments, it is working extremely well. Other ROMs are being developed as well.
If you like a car dock, the iBolt car dock works great with this phone, too - even with a TPU case installed.
All in all - I'm quite happy with this phone.
Hey thanks so much for the reply. Great information...so its got a creaky back cover eh? Weird Lol and ya if it was my phone i would definitely root it and probably go with nitsuj's ROM. He does some great work. But its my wifes phone so probably will leave it stock. But....any idea of it getting jellybean anytime soon? I've tried searching and found out its on the list of getting it sometime down the road. Again thanks for your input

Only jb for this phone is the cm10 preview rom in the development section. Which runs nicely btw. There may be a jb update eventually but not anytime soon

agreed with everything already posted.
my #1 item was size. so this was really the only option... i waited a while for it to actually come out and so happy i did. i came from an original incredible.
currently rooted / soff with dirty racun and running viper rom with zero issues.
it would be nice if it were a little more popular and had some more activity around it.
So is anyone else experiencing the creaky back cover?

Its a known problem but junkmails trick does resolve it or just use a case.

Yes but it doesn't happen that often and so doesn't bother me that much.

Credit for the creaky fix goes to jporter396.
That fix along with a case does indeed make the phone feel much more solid. I'm using this one: Link. It's cheap and effective, but I would like the front sides to come up a smidge higher.
yea - the creaky cover is pretty common. i don't notice it with a case on it...
i've always been partial to the tpu style cases - they don't add bulk, soft enough to help with some impact, not so sticky that they catch in pockets... i've been using this one -

Sorry for that. I seen it awhile back and bout a week ago tried it on my daughters phone and worked
Well now my wife wants to wait another couple months before getting a new phone Lol. So now it could be something different Haha sheesh. Well if I liked smaller phones I would no doubt probably own the Dinc4G. Seems like a great device. I love HTC and can't wait to see what the M7 is gonna be like. Anyone else excited about it? New topic haha

Thinking about Getting DNA may 1st?

I love everything about this phone.. accept the battery size.. HTC must have made there device to work will with the small battery given along with it, they must have optimized it somehow. Is the battery life good.. I mostly text play a few games and web browse all on 4G.. I am curious to know how the battery holds out on this phone.. please let me know!
See the thread about loving battery life a few down. Lots of love for battery life
I dont know how I missed it.. thanks!
Joel battery life is pretty good with this phone. Something to consider is that you won't be able to unlock and root phones with ota which most of them now come with. Besides that it's a great phone screen breaks and scratches easily so get some protection if you so get it

I don't agree with what you said about the screen. Unless you tale a diamond ring to it or you live near a beach and get sand in your pocket it is hard to scratch it. And the only way to break it is to drop it on the front with no case.
I've had my phone for over 4 months and never have had a screen protector on it and it still looks the same as the day I got it.

I've dropped mine off a 15 foot stand... but it had an otterbox, so I guess that speaks for the durability of both the phone and the case.
As for battery life, I haven't had any gripes but I also have had to live purely off wifi for the last couple months till I get back to the states; So that could change my battery life when I'm constantly connected to a network.

I beg to differ. I dropped mine with nada on it on the pavement face down. yeah it was scary but the screen got a little scratched and the corner chipped a little. Thats it. It's a pretty solid phone!
Battery life on this phone is great. Lasts all day on pretty heavy use.
Thanks guys! I didnt want to get a S3 considering Im not sure when the S4 would be coming out.. on VZW. Plus I love the red and black.. But I love the specs on this phone.. I dont want to spend 200 on a GS3 with common specs ( as of most phones released ) or a Maxx HD when I can get this top end phone for the same price!
I had the Maxx HD and swapped it in for the DNA because the lag and redraws were hideous. I too was worried about the battery life but I'm 14 hours in and still at 45% today. Today is my first day with BatteryGuru post learning stage. I don't expect this type of battery life to hold up on a weekday, but I can go from the time I get up to the time I go to bed easily. I use mine mainly for Exchange, surfing, texting and calling. Don't do much in the way of games so I'm sure that helps.

Most online retailers offer the DNA for $50. Got mine a month ago from radioshack.com for that price.
i got mine and my sister's for 98$...they battery life is good unless you are a heavy user...then it drains fairly quickly...maybe after OTA has root, a kernel will help improve it
oh and, keep and eye out...if the HTC ONE's version comes out for Verizon, its better than DNA unless you want to save money for a little compromise.
I like this phone, I do agree that the One will be better, but no announcement of a verizon version..

In terms of build and look I like the DNA better. The one is the same size as this phone but with a smaller screen. I also prefer the 3 nav buttons at the bottom instead of 4 makes it look cooler imo. I hear the one has an aluminum casing finish while the DNA just had that nice black and red matte finish with ergonomics that fight right in your hand. The DNA is just sleeker in all aspects. But that camera in the one ifs what I wish this had along with sd card support.

sorry but i don't think they are the same size phones...i even double checked with a specs sheet. and i thought the HTC One had a 2 button nav?
and on that point i do like the 3 button layout but i don't find myself using the recents so much that i need a button dedicated to it...same with volume buttons haha
anyway you'll be happy with either one

I'm always jumping between apps so it's useful for me. I read the dimensions are practically identical except the smaller screen.. what about the volume buttons?

well if you use it then i guess a dedicate button is good
i was just saying i kinda hate how we have dedicated vol up and down buttons because i keep my phone on vibrate and i end up accidently turning it up or silent by accident...i hope i just like use them for stuff other than changing volume once root is out? i can't be the only guy who wants this haha..maybe use it as waking and locking device...anyway i digress... we can agree to have different opinion on HTC One vs HTC Dna
