Hey,
I have a navigation folder with images in it. I put a .nomedia in the file to prevent the images from showing up in gallery. However, they do still show in gallery. Am I doing something wrong? Im dumbfounded now....
OK Well I have quickpic installed. I added .nomedia file to a directory and it instantly disappeared from quickpic but not from the samsung gallery, even after a reboot.
I removed the file and it instantly showed back in Quickpic. Added and it went again.
So either;
1) The Samsung gallery ignores this .nomedia
2) The Samsung gallery does not necessarily scan the SDcard on a reboot and hasn't found the .nomedia file yet.
All I can do is wait to see if at somepoint, that directory disappears from samsung gallery.
As a work around, use quickpic as a gallery replacement perhaps.
Samsung gallery only scans it on first time, so
Place .nomedia files in all the folders you do not want displayed in Gallery
Go to settings - apps - gallery
Clear cache, clear data, force close
Go to settings - apps - media storage
Clear cache, clear data, force close
Hard reset (cold boot) this will not delete any data

that worked like a charm. Stupid me, this happened to me before on CM9 using sgs2. The AOSP gallery was exactly the same.....
I think it also works if you :-
unmount the SD card,
run the gallery app and let it sort itself out,
close the gallery app,
mount the SD card,
run the gallery app again
It's WORKSSSS !! THAAAAAAAANKKKSSS...
All my picasa album gone from my phone gallery.. lool :laugh: :laugh:
Send from my GALAXY S !!!
put a .nomedia file in folder where gallery doesn't scan, it will exclude subfolder too.
rename that folder as .foldername and try to open gallery, it will crash.
rename back to foldername and open gallery ... no more unwated pics.

I ran the HTC bootloader unlock last night, and now the gallery app doesn't see any of the photos that were in my dcim photos folder before I ran it. It sees any new photo I take, but but not any of the old ones in the same folder. I've remounted the sdcard and power cycled the phone with no luck. Any thoughts?

Have you tried to run a fix permissions to see if that allows the files to be indexed properly?

Not sure what you mean by that, so no, but they show up correctly in es file explorer (if that helps). How would I be able to find out if I need to fix permissions? It's probably also worth mentioning that other image apps, like quickpik, have no problem seeing all of the photos in that folder.
Thanks
Well if other apps see them, then the permissions may be fine.
have you tried clearing the cache through the Apps menu for Gallery?

I have - not only that, I've moved some pictures into a temporary folder to see if it would see them in a different folder, and it did. I've moved them back to the regular folder, and it still sees them in the new folder I created. I've even deleted that new folder completely, but it still sees all of those photos in this now non-existant folder.
What the hell? How do you get the gallery app to refresh properly?
Edit - and now it's duplicating gallerries. WTH? Is there any way to reinstall the stock gallery?
Here's what I did. Presumably this will fix all sorts of gallery issues.
1 - install SDrescan from the play store. This is the fourth sdcard rescanner I've tried to use to fix this, and the only one that worked correctly
2 - in app manager, stop the "Gallery" app, and clear data and cache
3 - in app manager clear data for the "Media Storage" app
4 - run the SDrescan app from step 1, wait for it to finish
5 - wait a few minutes, reboot, wait some more, and the gallery should be correct.
all the films and videos ive put on my phone used to show up as thumbnails in video player but now its only showing thumbs for video ive recorded on the phone . i think it may have happened since using kies but im not sure .
does anyone know how to get them back in the video player ?
now if i want to play them i have to open up my files and find the video file and open them to video player
Go to Settings-> Application Manager -> All(TAB)
Then Select Media Storage and Clear data.
Then restart the mobile.
Now it will start the media scan.
It will take few minutes.

Copy them to any other folder and check it.

I have this problem sometimes where new files won't show up for a while. Try take a look at this app on Play Store:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.addz.mediascanner&hl=en
When I copy new media over and it doesn't register I do this:
1) Go to Settings -> App Manager -> ALL -> Gallery -> (Force Stop and Clear Cache/Data)
2) Go to Settings -> App Manager -> ALL -> Media Storage -> Clear all Data and Cache (and force stop is possible).
3) Run the Media Scan app linked above.
4) Wait 35-80 seconds
5) Reboot phone.
If that still doesnt work I try taking SD card out and then rebooting with it out and putting it back in ^^

Hello,
I have removed one of the pre-installed apps from a Sharp Docomo SH-12C (Android 2.3.3). It is nothing vital, and does not affect system performance - an E-book reader app: jp.co.sharp.exapps.
First I updated the app, then integrated the update in /system/app - but it would crash on reboot, so I decided to get rid of it.
Unistalling didn't seem to wipe all data. I tried reinstalling but got a "Failed" message. Then I manually deleted the .apk and the .odex from /system/app.
The app name (jp.co.sharp.exapps), however, would still appear in the list of installed apps when viewed from Settings > Manage Applications. Eventually, I managed to "completely" remove it using ES File Manager's app manager.
But now I notice that some app info still exists in /data/system/packages.xml:
Code:
<updated-package name="jp.co.sharp.exapps" codePath="/system/app/EBook.apk" ft="14011d59a10" it="14011d59a10" ut="14011d59a10" version="2500" nativeLibraryPath="/data/data/jp.co.sharp.exapps/lib" userId="10062">
<perms />
</updated-package>
.....
<shared-user name="jp.co.sharp.exapps" userId="10062">
<perms />
</shared-user>
I tried manually editing these off the file but the file gets restored on reboot.
I have deleted the folder and its contents from /data/data.
How does this info get written to packages.xml? Can I find the source and delete the app info from there?
I suspect that Sharp have implemented some extra security mechanism to their phones so that people can't simply freeze or delete system apps but have no idea what it might be. For example, if you freeze even one built-in app, and do a factory reset, the phone will go into a boot loop. I believe the same happens if you uninstall a system/app.
Ideas appreciated!
Did you trying deleting the package.xml file then wipe cache and dalvik cache?
i got same problem.Did you managed to solve it?
That persist on Android 11.
i installed jbeanz to my xperia go, everything is done; unlocking bootloader, rooting, flash the os, etc.
So here's my problem, the Gallery app is not showing photos from the SD card and music files not showing up in walkman app.
I tried changing the settings of the camera app. - Save location - to sd card., but when i check again the gallery app, i only see photos i took using the camera app but when i checked the folder using file manager, all of the photos are there.
What should i do. Please help??.
Thanks!
roms like purenexus doesnot come with preinstalled gallery & music app.
so I extracted the gallery folder (with some lib.so files) & music folder (folder named as 'eleven' in linage rom, also has some lib.so files) from linageos rom
and put them into /system/priv-app
after a reboot, gallery app worked fine. but when click on photo edit button it force closes
the music app does not open. it force closes from beginning.
also tried the AudioFX folder copied in system. still force closes
should I need some more folders to be copied in system?
can anyone suggest?
I know I can always use alternative apps, but still I prefer those apps...
