I don't like the smaller circles in the ICS pattern unlock - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, under Gingerbread I used to really like the pattern unlock feature, but since ICS it has become a real hassle. Because the circles are much smaller, you have to be much more accurate. I used to be able to unlock it without looking directly at the screen, but with ICS I no longer can.
I assume this change was done for security reasons, but it DOES NOT make the phone any safer, because if I was a thief that had just stolen this phone and was trying to circumvent the pattern unlock, I would make sure that I was putting my finger right through the centre of the circles anyway. The only person that will now find it more difficult to get into the phone is the owner.
Anyone know if there's a way of changing the size of the cirles to something like what they were in gingerbread?
Secondly, sometimes (no obvious pattern for it) I would turn on my screen and try to do the pattern unlock, but it's as if it fails after about two circles and I have to start again. This is not related to the size of the circles because it happens even if I right through the middle of the circles. It'll fail even though my finger is still drawing the pattern. Sometimes it takes 3 or 4 attempts to get it to unlock.
Any ideas what might be causing this? I guess it's because the phone is busy doing something else. But what?
Thanks.

I don't have a solution, however I am just replying to say that I am also suffering from the seconds problem. It does get quite frustrating especially when you have an urgent task to do.

A thief would simply shut your phone down by holding the power button, boot into download mode & flash a new rom ;-) I also use pattern unlock & I'm not aware of any way to fix the issues you've mentioned; both the small circles & the issue where it takes you a few tries to successfully draw the pattern because your swipes aren't registered on the screen properly. I stick with it because it's slightly more easy to sue/convenient than a pin (for me anyways).
At the end of the day, there probably isn't a great deal you can do to stop someone nicking your phone & wiping it. Some security apps claim do to lots of things, I can't personally verify whether they're effective or not as I don't use one.

Phone won't unlock, what could be the problem?

Hi everyone, currently have a situation with my HTC HD2. I have the Energy Sense Rom and I just noticed a couple days ago when I try to slide my phone to unlock it, it won't slide at all. Like it won't recognize my finger and only way for me to do anything is take out the battery and put it back in.
Anybody have any idea how this could happen? Is the phone pretty much dying? It gets damn annoying when someone texts me and I can't slide the button over to unlock the phone. Sometimes I just gotta give it time then it would work but who wants to do that? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Does this happen in any other applications apart from the lockscreen ?
Sometimes when it does unlock, I won't be able to pick any icon on the screen. Literally the whole screen wouldn't do anything at all. I can't push the start button, I can't click on opera, all I could do is lock up the phone again.
Gets so annoying! I'm gonna try to upgrade the custom rom and see if it does anything.
hate to say it but i think you are going to need to return your phone. likely hardware. this happened to me; hard keys worked but screen was flakey and then stopped worked. by chance, have you used android?

Never used android so I don't think it's android related at all. Just happened out of no where.

OTB-Reloaded on ComRom UV issue on lockscreen

My phone runs great with this setup, but I noticed I have an issue on the lockscreen when the lower steps were -50v. The bottom right quarter on the screen gets very sensitive and it takes several times to put in the unlock code. If I wipe the screen really good before hand it works usually on the unlock first try. I ended up going back to stock voltage and don't have the issue anymore.
I wasn't sure if anyone else had seen this issue.
I've had the exact same issue before. It doesn't seem to be discussed about a lot over here but it got really annoying to the point where I just used a PIN unlock code instead of the pattern unlock.

Second Screen Notification dismisses too quickly

I have a feeling there is no answer to this question yet, but is there any way to have the notifications on the second screen stay longer than like 3 seconds? I feel like as soon as I pick up the phone to see the notification, it has already been dismissed. This is a real bummer because the whole point of this second screen is that we don't need to turn on the main screen to see notifications.
There is no setting for this that I saw, so I got a feeling this can only be fix with ROOT.
Anybody else feel the same way about this?
Yeah no settings to extend the time of notification as of uet it will be tweeked by devs tho

I know how to do this, I've actually changed it to 5 seconds, but it requires me modding the apk. Ive been having a lot of trouble though getting these second screen mods sticking after reboots.
Is your method too difficult to explain? Willing to try anything.

I will try anything too.
I too am willing to do just about anything including rooting my phone. I have always rooted everything until this phone. For the first time since the original galaxy I'm not even running a launcher. I've had Nova on most phones for years and years. Tasker works completely fine without forcing it to run in the foreground too. The LG phone is really nifty barring having to lunge for your phone on "ding" to see the second screen do it's thing.

Urgent pls, MotoE 1st Gen screen stuck on bootloader unlocked

My phone suddenly locked. I rely heavily on my phone as i use the android reminder system on my calendar as I have ADHD and cannot remember medication dose times so I set reminders and alarms, but now that my screen is locked onto bootloader unlocked white screen with red letters, I cannot use my phone.
I am having to set a big old fashioned alarm clock, which is horrible to wake upto.
I rooted it a year ago, even though I am very tech niaave, I watched a youtube vid and did it successfully, I wanted to get rid of moto bloatware, but didnt succeed
anyway, I a stuck on bootloader unlocked screen.
Somehow, i dunno how, i have managed to get onto the TWRP screen where I am presented with a number of options in the form of rectangles with one corner cut off.
I just wanna get back into my phone, but dunno which option to choose from these TWRP files, and which button to press to select the right option so i can get back into my phone.
I choose the reboot option on the TWTP screen after swiping it, and the screen just went black.
Every time I try to switch the phone off using the power button I just get this white bootloader unlocked scren again.
All was working well until my phone locked.
I had used ccleaner today and got rid of loads of junk clogging up my system, but phone worked fine after that, it was some auto download that happened later, that seemed to stop things, and lock my screen which was on calendar at the time.
I messed about with it, tried to google and get it to boot up normally, but i get stuck cos of all the jargon as I am tech naiive and amazed i was able to root the phone in the first place.
I just wanna get back into my phone and rid of this white booloader unlocked screen.
to complicate matters more, my battery runs out quickly so its always on charge.
So, if anyone can get me back into my moto E first gen as soon as possible, i would be most appreciative. thanks in advance and sorry for the urgency but i rely heavily on my phone as I am vulnerable and isolated without it.
Those who dont do facebook cant get hold of me.
I also downloaded unlocked bootloader warmin.zip but got stuck in cmd screen on 'waiting for device' so I abandoned that. I was never clear on when to have the phone plugged into the laptop usb.
So, at the moment, it is on a bright white booloader unlocked screen and migt as well be a brick until some kind soul can talk me through in a dummy fashion, on how to get back into my 1st gen moto E.
PS I prefer first gen as it has 2gb as opposed to 1gb internal memory so apps don't keep dissappearing, and I dont get low space messages despite having an sd card like I did with my old 1gb phone.
Please can someone help.

Question Phone Locks While In Use

My phone all of a sudden sends me to the lock screen while it's in use. It could be playing a youtube video, playing a game or typing a whatsapp reply.
Before you tell me it's some lock assisting app; it isn't. It happens in safe mode as well, and it started happening about 2 years ago back when I used a Pixel 4. At the time I did use a lock assisting app (KinScreen, which is a wonderful app I wish I could keep using, but my phone locks me out of my device regardless of settings in mentioned app, so I discontinued it's use months ago).
Back with the Pixel 4 I reflashed OS's, I removed screen protectors, I discontinued use of cases, I factory reset the device.... Eventually I gave up and just live with it. I upgraded to an unlocked Pixel 6 (and I'm patiently waiting for the 6a, hoping it's a bit smaller since I don't like these large phones), and the problem came along with me.
This, to me, tells me the issue is linked to my account. Especially the fact that it still happens while in Safe Mode. It's hard to test since it's so random, but I have lived in Safe Mode for a few hours until I saw it happen twice and I decided this problem was beyond me and when I changed hardware and it kept happening.... I'm just at a loss.
I've googled this before, thinking it may be a pixel issue "Pixel 4 locks while in use", finding nothing.
It's worth noting this issue only happens to me with Pixel phones. I like testing phones and currently have a Samsung Galaxy Flip3 fully set up. This problem does not present itself in that phone.
It seems at this point, that if I want to use a Pixel phone, I'd need to either reset my google account entirely (which I've done before, back in 2013 or so, with a Nexus 4 after what was then Google Now had just messed up my preferences for news articles; and it was such an inconvenience I would rather not give that a try).
Removing the lock altogether does do the trick of course. "Smart lock" does nothing for me. I use a pattern as a password and it's incredibly inconvenient. Have not tried switching to a pin but I don't have any reason to believe that would solve anything.
I genuinely don't think there's much I haven't tried, but perhaps someone else has already come across this issue and found out what was going on. I'd gladly try any and all suggestions I get and update this in the event of figuring it out.
I have found some people claiming to have a similar issue, none with a pixel phone, and none newer than 2015.
Thanks for reading.
TLDR; My phone locks while it's in use. Been happening across multiple phones (pixel 4, pixel 6), happens in safe mode as well.
Go into your Google drive on your PC, click on the current space used indicator on the left, click on backups that shows up on the right, and delete your backups.
I would then factory reset your P6 and start over. Drastic, but it should fix the issue.
Also, the 6a is likely to be the same size as the 5, i.e. not much smaller.

Probably a dumb question, because I just went there, and there is no Pixel 6 backup, there is, however, (4) Pixel 4 backups, as well as backups to my work phone (a definitely-too-small Palm phone): If I delete the backups, but don't factory restore the device in question, the backup will self-generate automatically within a few hours/days, correct?
So, at the very least I can delete it all to make sure there are no duplicate backups I don't need.
Correct. Delete the old backups and that probably will help.
