[Q] Keep root when upgrading FW via Kies? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have rooted my device and have the nordic LE8-firmware from May. Today I noticed via Kies that there is a new firmware for me, LF5.
Do I keep root if I upgrade via Kies? If not, how do I keep root? (is it possible?)
Thanks in advance

Just root it again. Takes less than a minute.

Or just flash a custom rom built from the latest firmware in the firstplace

I don't know anyone who has had the OTA update, Just use PC Companion.
If your phone isn't unlocked you will most likely not have the update yet so u will have to wait or flash it.

Just use mobile odin to flash the stock rom, it gives you an option to keep root

Lol you can do that if your not rooted already.

Will it wipe my phone if i flash it via mobile odin, for some reason it wont let me do the OTA update or update it via Kies.
I am rooted but i am still on stock ROM (LF2)

Nope, won't wipe, went from LF2 to LFB with MOdin earlier because I couldn't be bothered to wait for the OTA update to show on my phone

Hi. I jabe the SGS3 GT-I9300T (Australia). It is rooted and has cwm recovery. Will it be safe to update via kies? Will there be any chances of the phone soft bricking or bricking due to clash between root and kies firmware? I do not mine if I lose root access, but I dont want cwm anymore. Thanks in advance. Cheers:beer:

[Q] hi, i'm new here. Downgrade or..?

I make update at my galaxy s3 to android 4.3. My question is, i can make downgrade to 4.1.2 , or can i instal custom rom(4.1.2, miui ro.)?. Please help or give a answer please

Hello.. Being updated to the latest firmware version is better than leave you left behind. By the way, you may downgrade to the previous version by flashing it via Odin. MIUI is custom ROM and not recommended for most user since it could make your warranty void. Thanks

If i stay at 4.3 i can istall custom room (4.1.2)?

If you flash with ODIN, yes. Just keep your modem XXEMG4 or greater, and you won't have a problem with whatever ROM you choose to run.
How to keep modem i have ugmk6?
