I finally for the first time went from gingerbread AND rooted/flashed a new rom to my i777. AOKP has me happy in every way except that wifi doesnt work. According to the AOKP FAQ wifi should work on new builds, but if it doesnt I'm told to:
Go to \system\etc\wifi
In nvram_net.txt change ccode=GB --> ccode=US
In nvram_net.txt_murata change ccode=GB --> ccode=US
Reboot
Thing is those .txt ccode values were already set to US. I also heard that a guy turned off mobile data then wifi worked, tried that as well with no success. Given that idk what to do next.
The wifi simply attempts to get the ip address and when it does begin doing that the signal for wifi drops to one bar even though I am next to the router and it was full prior to said attempt at ip acquisition.

then you haven't even rebooted your device after a fresh flash. wifi works perfectly. this is either something you've done wrong or you haven't taken the 10 seconds it takes to reboot your device. you're posting a non-issue.
Of course I have rebooted. I rebooted last night after the flash (reboot #1). Then I turned my phone off after a few hours as I don't leave it on overnight (reboot #2). Lastly prior to making this thread I tried turning off mobile data, rebooting with it off and then attempting to get onto the wifi, and again with no success (reboot #3).
Full wipe, reflash.
Wifi works fine. think might have issues with hidden networks, dont have one so I cant comment or speculate, just hearsay.
full wipe. reflash.
Thanks!
edit: never mind. I did the full wipe and flash. It worked until I toggled wifi off and now it wont connect even after several reboots.

if it is defective then why would it work on gingerbread just fine for the months that I have had it? Also why would it after following Motomudder's advice would it work up untill I toggled it off?
I tried one more full wipe and reflash, this time it didn't work at all, unlike last time where it worked when I was greeted by the "welcome to andriod sign in blah blah blah intro" screen.
I think there is more to it than simply my i777 being "defective."
Did one last full wipe and reflash, did a few reboots with mobile data off and now it works.
I'm no programmer so idk what was up, but now it is working, and I am very happy. Thank you Moto for your help. :good:
Lesson learned.
Try to full wipe and reflash multiple times if those first few tries didn't work.

I Flashed CM 9 A13, and experiencing random freeze and reboot, I'm suspecting something wrong with the wifi, because everytime I got freezed up and rebooted my wifi data counter increased a bit by bit, though I didn't turn on the wifi nor using it.
Here's the other thing I've had as problems with wifi:
- If I connects to Wifi for some period, and turn it off my gsm data won't come back
- After freezes and reboots, my data won't come back either, I need to reboot it again to regain the data back
that's what makes my suspicions regarding the wifi become stronger, so I did tampered some system, starting from setting the wifi sleep policy, which didn't work, reflashing, and changing the wpa_supplicant.conf but none of them work (yes its stupid, i know )
but then I read about changing the sleep policy through changing the settings.db in /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/
I read those, and compare it with my D2G's (using miui with ICS framework I think ? ) then added the line that don't exist or updated it with the value
- apn_auto_switch = 1
- network_preferrence = 1
- preferred_network_mode = 2
- location_provide_allowed = network
Then, "bam" i lost my lockscreen, but the good news is, all the problem mention above is gone. I don't have any random freezes and reboots, my gsm data will come back after switching the wifi off, everything works fine, well except the "lockscreen" so any idea how to bring it back ?
You might want to go to the thread and post this question as this is still in alpha and rom specific.

Well, I think the problem I have now is not part of CM9 bug, it's my own fault
the random reboots, freezes, gsm won't connect after set to wifi is already been reported by several peoples there, so I believe Joker has already know that and try his hard to fix it.
But guess what, I fixed my own problem along with the random reboots, freezes, gsm won't connect after set to wifi
My fault is after changing the settings.db, I immediately closed the software and copied the settings.db only and not including -shm and -wal files
Reflashing Cm9, took out settings.db, edit needed value, copy back settings.db along with the two files I didn't includes in the 1st attempt , and voila I got my lockscreen, home button back not to mention no more random reboot and can get my gsm data again after switching back from wifi

The short of it is, my Wifi crapped out for reasons beyond my experiences thus far.
The long of it. I flashed epinter's 07/25/2012 Nightly and everything seemed to be working nicely, Wifi especially. Then today, out running errands and dropped my Atrix in my Car Dock and attempted to turn on Bluetooth for the first time since flashing, and the device froze then restarted. Once back up, I tried turning Wifi back on, and the device froze again and restarted. Thinking maybe the radio driver went south, I grabbed epinter's 07/27/2012 build (epinter-cm10-20120727_1846-UNOFFICIAL-olympus.zip), and still no luck. Back into Recovery, Wiping everything and also factory resetting then flashing twice over again, boot up, still no wifi, and if it manages to seemingly fire up, the device hangs and restarts.
Within the last 2 hours (Been at this for about 12 hours now.) I grabbed Jokersax's build (Beta 0.1.0), wiped/reset/flash twice as I have before. Now as I take a breath I noticed that the Wifi Icon came up in the Notification bar, but when I go into Settings and Scan, I see none of the Networks around me. I looked under Advanced and noticed that my MAC Address is 'Unavailable' nor am I showing an IP address, even though Wifi is saying 'On'. Verified on my Router, my Phone is not connected to it.
Odd Side note, installed aLogcat just to see if I could catch any errors, and it is not giving me anything, that is, I am not seeing any logs through the app. Most likely an unrelated issue, but still a tad annoying.
Everything else seems in order, including Mobile Data (Able to access Web Pages, Market/Play Store, receive email, etc.). Just Wifi pretty much 'Lights are on, but no one is Home.'. Any suggestions on next steps?
We discussed this issue over in some other threads and conclusion is that it's a hardware malfunction Ur broadcom chip is burned, many people (including me) had that problem.

We're talking fastboot wipe kind of clean install? Going to give that a go as a last attempt, will post results here.
Glimmer of hope tonight, was discussing the problem with a friend, went to turn on WiFi and it actually scanned and connected for about 2 minutes before crapping out. This tells me there maybe life to the chip still. Now to get fastboot to connect and try a wipe and see what happens.

Any news on this front? I am one of the afflicted as well.
I'm having a similar issue. though my BT works just fine, no delays, no errors, no intermittance.
Wifi, I can scan for networks just fine. i click on mine to connect. it shows connecting, noting that when it says connecting the signal shows 1 bar as compared to the full set of wifi bars when scanning, i am also right next to the AP. is tries connceting for about 20 seconds or so. then goes back to saying "saved" under the SSID, other networks showing "disabled" when this happens. i originally noticed this after flashing epinters cm10. i tried flashing 37p, 36p and 30p radios with no difference.
EDIT: also want to note that i HAVE disabled the "avoid poor connections" option. and have tried setting static IP.
I flashed the same and I am unable to get my wifi to work after clean wipe, radio install or anything else that I have tried. Could software have really burned up a wifi radio????

Mine works occasionally so I don't think the radio is dead. The rom just acts like it's not there most of the time and doesn't give a mac address. Sometimes it works though after a reboot. Would flashing a different radio help? My baseband version says N_01.77.37P
I had an IP and a MAC, but no wifi internet.
Using mobile data, I downloaded Set DNS and then enabled wifi, works fine.
Now it's working but mobile data is going very very slow, it took 5min to download Set DNS.
I have a skyrocket but the "no wifi" issue is probably the same - your not getting DNS
I'm going back to CM9 for now.
+1 wifi matter under CM10
Try rebooting the router.
Experienced same issue (unable to connect, showing full bars, dropping to 1 bar when connecting and never being able to complete a connection) rebooting my router has fixed the issue. I'm not technical but it might have to do with the DNS release for addresses .. in any case unplugging my router for a bit and restarting it fixed the issue for me.
I have had this problem for awhile where my phone will not auto connect to my home WiFi, at first I thought it was due to me doing a lot of updates without wiping and was fine with that but I just updated to official LS8 and did a factory reset and it is still happening.
I did nothing but the initial login setup then left my phone when it lost the connection it would not connect again. I have to go through settings and manually select my AP and hit connect. Luckily it does save the credentials which is good since my passphrase is 63 characters long.
Anyone know what could be wrong. My cousins S II on the same software works fine connecting to my WiFi.
To reiterate I did do a factory reset and had the problem within minutes of starting the phone with zero changes other then logging into my Google account.

may be the problem is with the firmware or software you are using!!!!!
just do one thing and try if it works!
install any of the custom Rom present here which you like the most, maybe it stock or what else it doesn't matter!!!
do a full wipe in recovery and do format data, system and cache and then install the custom Rom!!!!
formatting will solve some of your basic problems related to Rom!!!
format options are available in recovery under Mount and storage option!!!
just try this once and let me know Bro!!

wifi doesnt work at all with me in LS8
it's buggy I can tell.
which kernal are you using some kernal have issues with certain types of routers because either the router or the phones wifi files are not upto date or cannot communicate with each other properly.
Flash other modem.
Don't ask how, use search, plenty of info.
I finally got it working, it turns out the JB firmwares were more picky about router settings then before. I found some advice on a different problem that unexpectadly fixed it where I specified the routers channel and width to 36 and 20mhz instead of auto.
That worked but caused massive slowdown on my LAN transfers for my laptop 8.5 MB/s instead of 12.5 MB/s I did some trial and error and found channel 64 and 40mhz also worked for my phone and gave me the better speed.
Hi,
I did some extensive searching and couldn't find the answer to this, but I can't imagine I'm the only one with the problem. I flashed the 10/24 nightly build of CyanogenMod yesterday and was disappointed to find out that wifi would not turn on. I installed the latest nightly this morning (which seems to have fixed a bunch of other stuff) and wifi is still not working. Any thoughts? Am I just in a waiting pattern until it is fixed by the builds, or is there some step or hidden setting I need to change?
Thanks!
Sam

Thanks for your reply. The wifi itself won't turn on. When I open the settings and toggle it on, it looks like it's about to because it goes a little darker, but then when I go to the Settings page for wifi it is just stuck on "Turning wifi on..." so I can't even see any SSIDs to connect to. Other behavior that is potentially peculiar:
The region setting is Europe by default, though even when changing it to U.S. it still doesn't work.
MAC Address is "Unavailable". I would have thought that unlike IP address, the device should know its own MAC address without needing to be online. Could this be the culprit, and if so, how do I resolve it?
Screenshot of the Wifi Settings Page
I have attached a screenshot of what the wifi settings panel looks like. Note the toggle is stuck at off, but the wifi is still trying to turn on. It has been this way for about an hour now.

Hi Guys,
i have a problem.
Since a couple of days, the wifi connection on my i9100 does not work anymore. I tried multiple roms but to no avail.
The thing is that the wifi connection is established, but nothing works.
I tried different roms, router resets (but the problem occurs on any wifi connection).
Any ideas?

Ive had this happen to both my my Note 2 and my SGS2 LTE before that. With the Note 2, No matter what rom/stock firmware i flashed it never got better and I ended up selling it at a loss, but the SGS2 was made better when I flashed to stock then reflashed a Cm 4.2.2 rom. Maybe try that?

Given what you've already tried, flash the 3 part firmware from Hopper8's 'Odin troubleshooting' thread stickied in the General section. If you can get WiFi working on that, then reflash a more recent stock rom. If it's still working, then reflash whatever custom rom.
Might not work, but worth a shot given the 3 part will wipe your phone & might get rid of anything funky that might be causing this (don't forget to back stuff up before you flash it).
That it happens with every WiFi network you try to use is a worry though, and probably points either to something really simple we're all missing here, or a hardware issue.

I will try that when i get back from work. But i've been thinking, how is it possible that it is a hardware issue? i mean the phone still connects, something hardware related can not be partially broke right?
You'd think not (that it wouldn't be a hardware issue), but you've tried pretty much everything you can on the soft/firmware side, and it obviously isn't something on the WiFi network side unless all the WiFi networks you've tried & failed to get data flow to/from have this problem.
One thought I did have since my last post...I can't remember whether it's possible to do this on the S2 (it is on the S3/S4) as it's been months since I've even looked at mine; if you delete a WiFi connection in settings, then when you re-add it, are you able to choose between DHCP & static for IP address (might be in advanced settings if you check the box) ? If you're able to do this, choose a static IP address (I use 192.168.1.168 on my S4) rather than DHCP & see how that goes.
If that's not possible or it doesn't work, then try flashing the 3 part. Make sure you test once you've flashed it without restoring anything or installing any apps first to rule in/out something on the app side of things causing the problem.
THe 3part Odin flash did also not work. Is there a last resort solution, or is this it. Should I accept that my phone is broken

pheraps there is a problem with your modem version. Try to flash an other modem using recovery.
isnt that what i did in the 3 step flash from hopper8?
No, it's not. There's a big difference between flashing a 3 part rom & just simply flashing a modem. However...
It won't work anyway because WiFi has nothing to do with the modem (WiFi drivers are in the kernel).
Did you try what I suggested with removing the connection in phone WiFi settings & re-adding it with a static IP (presuming this is even possible on the S2) ?
If you did & it didn't work, or it isn't possible after all, take it to a service centre or local mobile repair shop.
or just buy a new phone as i did. I will keep you posted if the static ip worked.

Holy &^#(*^ that worked! a static IP worked. How is that possible?!
The short answer ? Magic
The long/non-tech answer; the connection between the phone/router is basically dropped & constantly re-established over & over & over (we're talking about once a second or less; basically looping like that) which means you've never got a stable connection long enough to get any data flow with a DHCP allocated IP.
There's threads on here somewhere that explain it better/explain 'the why' if you're interested enough to search for them; sorry, I don't have bookmarks handy & it's 5.30am here so I'm going to bed.
Important thing is, problem solved

100% thanks, i've looked around on the forum and see now that you've helped multiple people solve this problem. That is great.
[FIX]
For the people that read this thread, fix the problem by applying a static IP for their WIFI and think "but what about all the public accespoints that do not allow static IPs?? Will i never be able to use them anymore?"
Don't worry
The problem is not so much the fact that the phone suddenly needs a static IP on certain WIFI accespoints, but that it needs an assigned DNS. Through some "magical" "unexplainable" reason some of our phones suddenly go broke in a weird way that everything works, but no DNS is assigned on specific WIFI spots (mostly WPA2 protected).
Solution:
Set a fixed DNS for all WIFI connections
Google Play has multiple apps that will apply a fixed DNS.
[edit] after this debacle i bought a second hand i9300. The first couple of days, it worked perfectly but soon it started to display similar behaviour as my i9100. That is when i started to look for other possible solutions for the problem. I soon found out that the Ip adress that was handed out by my router was off. it was 192.168.2.xxx instead of 192.168.1.xxx as is setup in my router settings. That is why entering a static IP solved the problem for my i9300. After restoring my router to factory settings everything is normal. My router is a Tp-link wr740N with DDWRT flashed on it. Maybe this information will also help other users
Good job digging up the DNS info, hopefully this helps people in future/they don't spend days pulling their hair out trying to fix this issue
