Help! My EVO LTE may be dead. - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

I was driving somewhere with my wife this morning and I had my phone plugged into the charger. All of a sudden, the phone just turned off. Nothing I've tried will turn it back on. If it is on the charger, there is no LED light. The phone is just dead.
I've tried holding the power button down for a minute or more. I tried the power button and volume down trick. Nothing. Nada.
If I can't get this thing working tonight, I will head to the Sprint store in the morning. I am expecting an important phone call tonight and I need to do something. Argh!
I've searched the issue and I've seen other people have had this issue, but no resolution that works for me yet. The only thing has been getting a new phone.

same problem. freaking out, im rooted custom everything. even if sprint gets it back on im still screwed. looking for some xda love right now

Try pluging the phone in to the charger and then unplug it and then plug it in again. I have noticed on mine that sometimes when I plug it in to charge the led will light up like its charging but it wont be charging, it will be discharging.

if you can charge your battery with an external charger do a shock to the battery .
maybe your battery is sleep.

Uhhh. Non-removable battery. Else, great idea: I've used that trick with removable batteries.
What happens if you plug the phone into the computer via USB instead of using the charger. Does it come on/charge then? Do you get the "USB device connected" sound from the computer?

QHUSB_DLOAD means that your phone is in emmc recovery mode. There's a tool out there for the EVO 3D called emmc_recover which can make it possible for you to flash images to partitions while in this mode. (this is the same tool that is used in the Evo 3D Hboot 1.5 downgrade method). I wonder if the same tool can be used in this case to flash a new hboot?

Mike, I tried that too. No response to that either. I was rooted but no custom ROM. I didn't make it to the Sprint store on Sunday. I was wiped after spending the day in the sun.
I'll be at the Sprint store in the morning and will let you guys know what happens. I'm using my wife's LTE with my number attached to it right now.

2 more hours until the sprint store opens. argh! I hope they don't give me **** about replacing it.

[Q] Rezound Bricked?

My Rezound is broken
I unlocked and de-sensed it, but that was when the unlock first came out and it's been working fine since, so I don't thing that's the problem.
The phone won't come on, and when I plug it in the charge light doesn't even come on. If I leave it plugged in, then take the battery out and put it back in the charge light comes on for a few seconds, then turns off.
I was at a new years party the night before and I may have laid down on top of it while it was in my pocket, but the water sensors are fine, and I don't remember it ever getting wet.
I notice there are a lot of connections between the phone and the back cover. Is it possible that something could be bent and these connections aren't being made, so the phone refuses to do anything? I tried putting wires across them where they would normally be connected, but it didn't seem to help.
So what do you guys think? Is there something else I can try? I guess if it's totally broken then they can't tell that it's unlocked, so I could try getting a replacement :/
First off, I wouldn't have put any wire across any of the antenna leads like that. Second, if the phone is not coming on with the cover off then you may have another problem. The phone should turn on without the cover. You just wouldn't have signal.
My opinion, try another batter if you know anyone who has one. Or maybe go to your VZW store and see if they will let you use one of theirs. If the battery/phone is too hot the LED will blink orange, once it is cool enough, or full enough to turn on/charge again it will become solid. The fact you get an indication when there is no battery leads me to believe there may be a problem with the battery itself.
with the phone off, pull the battery for several minutes. Then put it back in and plug it in to the charger. Do not try and turn the phone on. If the charge light comes on and stays on, just let it charge for a few hours until it turns green.
I've read of rezounds dying from the battery going completely out. Screws it up somehow. Verizon also has thunderbolt external chargers for 5 bucks. You could use that to charge the battery (it fits), then try and turn it on. If it still won't turn on after charging, put the battery in and try and boot into the bootloader menu (power on and vol down at the same time), from there you can restore your nandroid or flash another ROM if it will boot to it.
I tried leaving the battery out for a few minutes, and then for the rest of the day. No dice in either case. I'll try to get an external charger tomorrow :/
Thanks for the ideas, I'll let you know how it goes.
Mine died overnight. Same symptoms, charging light for a few seconds then nothing. I plugged it in, let it sit for a while (didn't time it, but not more than 15 minutes). Unplugged it, then: held power, volume up and volume down all at the same time. It booted up, as soon as the screen came on, I plugged it back into the charger. Running fine now. Hope this helps someone else.
Went to Verizon today. I bought another battery and ordered an external charger. Swapped in the new battery and the phone started right up
Now I just hope I didn't screw anything up messing with the antenna contacts :/

After getting the new battery, does the orange LED come on while charging the phone when powered off? I replaced my battery after having the same problem and now the orange light does not stay on while the phone is charging when it is powered off. I guess it's no big deal, but it bothers me.

Yeah, it still works just fine. I turned it off just now and then plugged it in to check and the charging light came on immediately.
Maybe the battery is faulty or you got a thunderbolt battery by mistake and the phone is confused? Otherwise I have no clue why that would happen :/
I have them same problem. My phone is completely dead, won't turn on and a orange light comes on for 3 seconds and goes away and nothing happens. What do I need to do?
Sounds like your battery died. Pull the battery and let it sit for a few, then try to boot it back up and plug it in immediately.
I was reading a thread about this last night on RootzWiki. Dude did a lot of testing, came to find out it was ClockWorkMOD keeping a completely dead battery from charging at all. Is that the recovery you have? If so, I would put AmonRa on, try that.
Agreed, almost definitely a dead battery. You can try this:
1) Take out the battery and put it back in
2) Hold down power and volume down to enter the bootloader
3) Immediately plug the phone in and leave it there for 10 minutes or so
4) Reboot the phone now that you have enough power to make it through booting
This should work as long as your battery is completely dead.
My suggestion for the future though is to buy an external charger and a second battery. That's what I did, and now any time I accidentally let my battery die I just swap it out and I'm good to go at 100% while the other one recharges. Also an external charger is the easiest way to fix this if your battery is too dead for the above method.

Also, remember that if you are using Clockwork Recovery for some reason that makes the phone not charge when its powered down. I had the similar issue where i couldnt get it to charge or come on at all, i put in a battery from my TBolt and it turned right on, switched Recovery to Amon Ra (Blue one, not the Red one) and from there it charged no problem!

this worked for me! thank you!! also to come to think of it, the problem happened after installing clockworkmod recovery. so there certainly seems to be a connection

This absolutely helped me! I'm really liking this Rezound I picked up but the damn thing is also just very temperamental in general. Still a fantastic underrated device overall though.
My wifes d2g did that once. I ended up taking an old charger, stripping the ends off and taping it to the contacts on the battery for 30 minutes. It charged it up and after that it would charge thru the phone again. A lot cheaper than a new battery.

[Q] Phone died wont charge

Yesterday my dna died while at a dealership then I went to plug it into my car charger and the led came on to indicate charging. The phone automatically booted into the bootloader at which point I selected reboot phone and after that it went black as if there wasn't enough juice to boot and shut off. Since then the phone won't charge. When plugged into the wall, no orange led comes on to show its charging and after being left plugged in over night I'm still having the same issue.
I've got a lot of important things on there and I really hope there's something I can do.
Thanks :crying:

Make sure your cable isn't borked. For some reason, the cable wires break at the connector on the small end. Try a different cable. The orange charging light should come on after about 5-15 minutes of charging depending how dead it is.

At this point the phone is refusing to do anything or at least appears to be doing nothing. Pressing the power does nothing and when plugged into any power source no orange led. I don't know how I would boot into the boot loader while the phone is in this state.

Thanks. I've tried several cables and from different charging sources, wall, computer USB and my car and none make the orange led come on. I've tried holding the power for 20-30 seconds to see if I could reboot it but that didn't work either. The phone has never been dropped on anything but carpet once or twice and never near any water.

I have this exact same problem; however, my phone came back in a few days? It seems to get stuck like that every so often but then comes back and has around 30-40% battery left. I am about to lock it and put it back to stock and get a replacement.
Were you running any ROMs? I'm running a clean stock ROM.
Maybe try to open it up and disconnect the battery. This is a common pro let on the Nexus 7 and usually people get it fixed by disconnecting the battery and putting it back on. If you feel comfortable opening the phone you could try that.

Cool. Keep me updated. I'm very curious now.
When you hold down the power button for 10-15 seconds, do the led's on the bottom of the screen blink? I let mine drain all the way out. Plugged it in. the orange light was blinking slow. I held down the power button until after the led's blinked 13 times. I don't know why they blinked 13 times but they did. held down the power button again and it booted up.
When you connect it to your computer, is it found as a device through ADB commands? Is it listed as a drive attached to the computer?

Prior to disassembling it no, the LEDs never blinked when holding it down and when I tried charging it through my computer USB port it was never detected. Everything seems to be fixed now but thanks for suggestions. I still don't know what happened but hopefully it was just a one-off thing

Glad to hear your back up. Good job. It could also possibly be that the battery somehow got disconnected. I wouldn't return it unless it happens again. Just try not to let it die and I don't think it will happen again. Or if you drop it, it may also disconnect. But I wouldn't get a replacement unless the issue comes up again.

If you get a replacement your phone will be unlockable.
Glad you found the problem.
For future reference, my experience when my android phone had died, always plug the phone into the wall. If not, it takes forever for the phones light to come back on. Its happened to me a bunch of times. Haha

I have an s-off rooted droid dna and i went to flash a new rom today(i have flashed a few before) and it failed twice so i pressed restart in TWRP and the phone shut off and nothing else....

i have also tried to hard restart it every way possible including pulling the battery quick and trying again.
was hoping someone on here might know something I am missing.

Was the battery very low when you were doing this?
I had something similar (but different) happen the other night. I left the phone on a wireless charger and when I got up in the morning, the phone was completely dead. It's possible that I missed the charger and that the phone simply depleted its battery, there is no know I can tell.
I tried several different USB cables, wall chargers, wireless chargers, computers, and nothing would make it happy. Either nothing changed at all when I attached a power source or else the LED would blink on and off but it never gave me a solid charging light. I tried various charging techniques for 10 hours before I called Verizon for a replacement phone.
Later that night, I put it on a different brand of wireless charger and again it did nothing and finally put it back on my google charger at which point it started charging. It ended up charging just fine after that.
Although, it still wouldn't charge on some combination of cables, USB ports, etc. that used to work and that work with other devices.
I suspect that the charging circuitry is flaking out on the phone and somehow the different wireless charger made it reset some internal state or some other voodoo magic happened.
There isn't any great advice here other than to keep trying different power sources and see what is happening with the LED.

how long was it disconnected ( i would leave it for about 5 minutes), and once you had it back on did you leave it on a ac charger(and not a qi one) for at least 12 hours? EDIT: just saw post above it didn't load for some reason lol. Dont hold volume down at first hold just power for for about 30-40 seconds the soft keys will flash then keep holding the device till you see white screen(if you get that) then let go and hold just volume down.

Just out of curiosity, what ROM / Kernel were you running when this happened?

S6 edge won't turn on, won't respond to anything, but is hot

Hey guys, I just did an update last night, the update was around 330mb, then I drained my phone completely, charged it, then fell asleep, when i woke up, I removed the charger, and the phone won't turn on. Tried pressing all 4 buttons, tried going to recovery, safe mode, and every other combination of buttons, but the phone won't turn on or even go to the samsung logo or blink or anything. Even if I connect it to the laptop, nothing happens. Screen is off, but even when it is not attached to anything, the phone is hot. Which means it is technically on? I'm thinking of letting it drain til it runs out of battery then recharge it?
Anyone? I tried all combinations, nothing makes it work, not even make the led blink, no vibration. Also, i tried charging it for a few hours, it just gets warm but no charging icon or anything.

I'll try later. I still don't have odin. But that would probably be my last resort. I don't want to lose all my stuff.
Bu the way, my phone is all stock, no root.
OK so I kept the phone charging and now I tried turning it on, nothing, but the blue LED came on.
Now the blue light is off again.
Trya computer to see if it is recognized. If so, just copy your entire folder from your phone, try to Odin, then if successful copy over your files

Tried that. It doesn't work. Oh and now that i tried charging with a wireless charger and still same thing, i guess i can safely conclude it's not the port. Maybe i need to try a charger with higher amps to try and wake it up?
Is it possible that the update does not allow the use of chargers that or not originally for the unit? And i used a samsung slow charger that night after the update, so the whole night the phone tried blocking the current and ended up frying the diode/resistor? Or maybe since i drained it to 0% it went to deep deep sleep?

I think it didn't show anything when i did. I will check again later.
Is it possible that after the update, when i charged it didn't accept the charger so the battery got drained fully and now it can't charge? A technician said the battery needs to be "shocked" but they don't have the equipment to take off the back to get to the battery. Any thoughts on that?
Would it help if i charge it using a 3.4A charger for a few hours? Maybe that will wake up the battery? Technicians say that because it got to 0% it might have been fully drained and unable to recharge, what they usually do is direct charge a battery but in the case of the s6 edge it's not that easy to do since you have to take it apart...

This is possible, I had the same issue with an iPhone and I had to open the case and charge it externally
Anyone have any other suggestions? I would probably bring it to the service center on monday, but I think if i have it serviced, they will just forward it to another city since I don't think they do repairs in mine.

Official samsung charger should be enough to get it charging and working. Service centre sounds best option

G Alpha wont turn on.

I charged my phone night before last and I used it in the morning. I left it on top of the bed when I had to do stuff.
I went to get my phone and my wife said it was warm and that she found it under the blanket. The blue notification light was flashing but I could not get the screen to come on via the power buttom.
I cannot get the phone to respond using any methods.
Could my phone have just died in an instant?

I already reseated the battery.
I cannot get to recovery mode with volume up + power + home.
I dont understand what could have happened.
Blue notification light was flashing. I hit the power button to turn the screen on but the phone did not respond.
I pulled the battery and I put the battery back in but the phone would not power on.
No indication when it is charging.
Kies wont recognize it.
Wont power on, at all.
Stock rom with only a few extra apps. I deleted most of my apps when my phone would randomly lock up.
Could be bad battery. Try getting to recovery as soon as you plug in charger.

I tried to boot the phone with 3 different chargers with the battery in and battery out.
My charger
My wifes S6 charger
My moms Kindle fire charger.
I tried a total of 6 times to boot the phone, nothing.
Could the motherboard be bad?
Could it be hard bricked?
Could be the battery
Could the phone turn on without the battery while being plugged into charge?
I guess no, try battery from another alpha/new one.
