My friend isn't getting this phone because it feels plasticky and gets scorching hot his uncle says. Does it really get that hot? He has a captivate which I'm pretty sure gets hotter than the galaxy s3.
Thanks

This phone does at times get warm even when the screen is off. I have a hunch its when it drops the wifi and is on 4G...
phone
The phone is plastic y feels plastic, but its very sturdy
the perfect weight IMO, 99% of the phones out are plastic so unless your going to buy the POS htc .....( I have one ) .
my phone has not got "hot " at all since removing all the bloat ... and even with the bloat it never got over 100° f ( battery temp ) all my other samungs ( i have 7 of them ) get over this temp so in comparison this phone runs cooler, the reason u can feel more heat from this phone is because of very thin battery cover its completely normal ... if your going to buy a new phone take it from the guy that has every single new at&t phone out right now this phone is bad ass and if ur into rooting and hacking its even better!!
It gets warm... not hot. Not as hot as my iPhone 4 for sure. And with a case you can't even feel the heat.
Ya I like the plastic too

Question is that if this phone is already w Kevlar, gorilla glass and water resistant. Why the mere for cases and screen protectors
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk
Maybe.
It definitely depended who you are,for me it is protected out of the box,i use the simple silicon case i got with it,it does the job haha, still haven't dropped it to check tho.
I've heard horror stories of people cracking the screen from 20-30 cm fall. So I installed invisible shield today :=)
Better safe than sorry
Lol invisible shield won't help from a fall lol

I have case mate case. I do miss the kevlar feel. But I really would hate to mess this phone up.

Phone went Swimming and Lived
While working on the side of the road, I dropped my Maxx into a water filled ditch without knowing it. I returned to the site 30 minutes later to find the phone face down on the bottom of the ditch. I pulled it out and much to my surprise my default notification sound chimed. When I got back to my apartment, I put the device (still powered on, screen working) in rice for a few hours and pulled it out and went to work with my fully working phone! I was severely surprise it worked near perfectly after the swim.
Now, a week later, I have concluded that the battery life is drastically reduced and that my power button does not function each individual time it is pressed. Insurance claim is in the works....but still, that's a pretty awesome story to tell about the phone surviving the plunge!
@jerseyff bummer, but good to know.

I get the case for looks and better grip. I was never a fan of super thin phones, too difficult to hold.
All I have to say is I got the phone a few days ago and all I was doign with it was loading backup from the couch. I may have put it in the pocket of my khaki's once but the pocket was empty. The next day I noticed there was a small hairline scratch right in the middle of the screen. Its barely noticeable but for someone like me its like nails on a chalkboard every time I look at my phone. Now I have to get a screen protector just to hide it.
I have zero faith in garilla glass's ability to prevent scratches on LCD screens. I can't for the life of me figure out what possibly have come in contact with the screen in order to cause the scratch. The link balls in my pocket must have some real teeth.
I recently got my Droid X2 and love it but being in the automotive industry im worried ill drop it or it will slip out of my pocket while im working around the cars in the shop. Ive seen a friends otterbox defender and i just dont like how the rubber will come off and you have to push it back in the little grove on the sides. Ive seen the Trident Kraken 2 and Electra, on amazon it says they are both 1 inch thick, i want to know is there any difference in thickness between the two, also on the Electra where you cant use a battery door im worried water or moisture will get to the inside of the phone and mess it up. If anyone can clear a these things up thanks i need a case soon.
Ive had the Electra for months now and I'll never look back, never had a problem with it, i charge my phone every other night and necer come close to it dying. It will NOT be sliding out of your pocket (we wear the same "jumpsuit overalls" in my line of work) unless you plan on being completly upside down and getting shaken at the same time

Ive been looking at amazon over the past few days and the kraken 2 is 29$ currently and the electra is 50$ currently, i charge my phone every night but from 7 am to 12 midnight i have about 30% left to 45% left of the battery, it depends on how much i use my phone per day for calls and such. The only thing pushing me away from the electra is the battery is kinda exposed, im just worried about mosturie getting it and messing up the phone, it looks like theres a little bit of rubber that the outside shell can press against to keep stuff out but thats been in the back of my mind thinking about the cases. On amazon the kraken 2 is 1 inch thick and the electra is also 1 inch thick? If you dont mind LordRalh3 meassuring it for me just the thickness is all im kinda worried about. Thanks, and i do have the get under some cars on a creeper is the only time im worried about the phone sliding out of my pocket.
I dont quite follow, there is no case that is actually waterproof? Ive never used my phone while swimming or playing in the rain and i dont recommend anyone doing that, ive not had a problem with moisture even in 90%humid with me sweating for 12 hours straight... Just under 7/8 of an inch thick and as to the battery being exposed.... Not sure what you mean, this is the most protective case made period, including otterbox, original kraken, liquipel, z shield, or any other things you've seen. The kraken 2 got horrible reviews btw, doesnt snap together properly and wears out quick, kraken original or electra is what you want.
And the creeper under the car is a non issue you'd have to litterally be upside down and getting shaken for this to fall out
Sent from my MB870 using xda app-developers app
Thats not as thick as i thought it would be, im starting to lean toward the electra, i guess im just more protective about my phone. Im gonna try to keep my x2 for as long as i can. The only two complaints ive read about the electra is the proximity sensor hole can get some dust in it and the sensor wont work, i can just blow that out no big deal, but ive also read where the screen protector on the electra sometimes wont let me pull the notification bar down. Thanks for the help though i just want buy something that is going to be good, cuz money dont come easy nowadays.
I would buy it now but the price went back up :/
I broke down and bought a kraken 2 case and love it, I would have likes to get the Electra but I needed a case quickly and didn't have much to speed but Ill keep my eye on the Electra and might buy it down the road.

i use my phone for about 5 days and has been charge 3 times. Often the back case feel warm. Today i realize that the back case feel waviness or bulgy when put slight pressure and go up and down vertically on the phone. It happened in the middle of back case in right and left side. I try put a little bit harsh then now i feel the part became 'soft' like when you put sponge, but only if you put it a bit harsh. Sorry for my bad english little bit hard to explain this. Is it normal or should i bring it back?
Every refurbished model I have received has air space behind kevlar back to where you can press in and out. Or moves up and down. The original new model was not like this.

what do you mean "always done this"? so this is normal for razr maxx? not because the battery getting swelling? i'm afraid this is cause by swelling battery and will be dangerous if we use swelling battery.
Dangerous how? It gets warm, and the glue on the back of the kevlar gets soft. Big whoop.
And, I'm not saying this is normal, just mine.

The back of the phone is not smooth on the inside. The key largest is also not a perfectly rigid material. This combination, with enough pressure allows you to feel the contours of the inside of the phone. That is all. Go to youtube and look up a video of the razr's back case. People bend it 180 degrees. It is that flexible. This flexibility adds strength but also allows you to feel the insides of the phone like I said earlier.
I doubt that you battery is swelling, because usually if batteries swell they don't unswell even when turned off. As for the air pocket thing, I suppose that is possible, but in reality the back of the case isn't sealed off from outside air so it really shouldn't be swelling from air. That being said, if it was sealed off for some reason, the air getting hotter in the phone could cause it to expand enough to push on the back cover. It's possible I suppose.

I'm not sure if it's just my phone but there's a section just to the right and below the volume down button where the back cover doesn't feel like it's fitting well. If you touch that spot with much pressure, it's not as solid feeling as the rest of the battery door. It even makes a slight clicking noise when you press on it.
It's the only part of the fit and feel of this phone that doesn't feel very premium to me.
no i think thats just ur phone cause mines all premium

Fine feels solid there
I bought a new back cover with NFC and Qi built in. It's OEM (but only has the LG logo on the back, no Verizon 4G) and it does not have this problem.
It feels much better than the one that came with the phone and looks better too since it's missing the verizon branding.
Now to finally get me a wireless charging pad so I can use it.
How's its durability, i saw a bend test on youtube which he failed badly(broke)...
So im now interested in the real life test...
Where do u keep the phone, special purse or pocket?
Never had such a large phone so i cant imagine having it in the front pocket, even more sitting with it in the front pocket...

In real life test, it's pretty much durable. It would not bend unless you do it intentionally with great force. For safety, just put a hard case. That's it.
About big size, No matter, how much big phone you get till 6", you easily get used to it. RN3 is just 5.5", you get used to it in only 1-2 days. There's no issue for me in keeping in my trousers' pockets. Though, while riding or driving, it's little bit difficult to pull out the phone quickly during a call. You can easily sit while keeping it in pocket. No issue.

With regards to display size, MIUI has that "one-handed" feature where it makes the full screen in 4.5 inch, 4 inch & 3.5 inch of the screen which is very useful. I find this phone really durable, but I recommend a case for the grip. Phone has fallen twice, once from neck level but I managed to break the fall(slightly). I havent noticed any scartches/ cracks. I recommend you buy it, battery is amazing , ROM support is winderful & performance is easily sufficient for a heavy user.
I recommend this device. It is very beautiful and has an amazing battery! It lasts all day for those more demanding users. He's not that fragile, but it's not the toughest market. Phones today are very thin and it leaves more fragile.
