Hi
I`ve just rooted with cf-root and wanted to backup my EFS, just in case.
On my Sgs2 i used hellcatdroid`s Ktool, wich was quick and easy, but its not working with the sgs3. I saw an option for it in the galaxy s3 toolkit, but i can`t seem to get it to work with my phone/computer ( cf-root might have something to to with it ?)
Hope someone can point me in the right direction
Have not seen any compatible apps yet, although plenty of ways that can be sourced with a little search....
EFS Backup Pro is an excellent and trouble free method (PC required), flashing some custom roms and kernels will automatically backup EFS to sdcard too.
ADB commands......

You just jogged my memory and I checked my backup too. Remember the .tar didn't work as well, but the .img did. As long as its kept in multiple safe places.

I'm one of those "people".
so the answer is no. =)
you have to back up the un-corrupted EFS folder that have your IMEI in it.
there are many software and apps that claim to back up those file
you can just search "how to back up efs folder" there should be plenty of solutions and guild.

Now then guys... i am thinking about rooting my phone to put jelly bean on my samsung galaxy s2 .... i was just wondering views on which is the best one to go for ( LINKS PLEASE ) and is it easy to do you know the usual questions you will have heard them before lol IM A NEWBIE !!!
Cheers People
Download Siyah 3.5.2.
http://www.gokhanmoral.com/gm/2012/07/29/siyahkernel-s2-v3-5/
Tar for Odin.
Then use this guide.
http://www.androidauthority.com/galaxy-s2-i9100-root-android-4-0-3-ics-xwlpd-88120/
Nevermind it says Cf-root. I flashed my Siyah kernel that way.
After that, flash any rom you want in recovery. Just do a Nandroid backup in recovery and backup apps with Titanium backup from Market!!!

Don't restore apps after flashing newer ROM, cause your phone will bootloop.
Better create text file and write names of installed apps.
Im not sure why everyone is worried about backing up there apps ive flashed about a 100 roms and never had to back them up cause if u go to the play store under my apps there always there
Infact there are apps there id forgotten about just pick which ones u want and re install .some roms auto instal them for u .make sure you have a google acc obviously!

What type of data? Music and photos are saved to the external SD card for me, and as for game save data, I believe that is externally backed up as well.

Only if the application is on the external memory card then it's backed up there. Otherwise they'll loose the data if that's not the case.

If you restore from google play, you loose all your app settings and you will have to reconfigure each app.
Also, Google Play will not show apps installed offline (apk)
Restoring app data with third party app like titanium backup is safe if app is compatible with the target rom

one more question after i done tht tutorial how do i flash the rom to my phone?? and then how would you put another one on if i gt bored of tht one ?? cheers

CWM-and have you bothered reading a Rom thread as there's normally install instructions.
And when I get bored of a rom I just restore my nand backup of something previous.
Sent from my GT-I9100
yes but it kinda seems all confusing for me shall do i just do what the tutorial from the first page .... download a rom then when i have done all the instructions do i just install the rom

in order to install a perticular custom rom , all u have to do is to follow the install instruction's of the same in there OP. and the same applies to all other roms also.
since installation instruction do vary from one custom rom to another
Jasper, you are better to read up on things so you are familiar with the processes of like rooting/kernels/roms/cwm/Odin/troubleshooting.
I understand reading 1000s of posts is tedious, but you could end up with a non working phone.

so i succesfully flashed Siyah 3.5.2 onto my phone now on to flashing the rom onto my phone

Hi every1
I see a lot of ppl on the QA complain about losing their imei number due to bad flashing and other circumstances.
I dont wanna risk screwing up my phone flashing roms so I was wondering what is the least hassle/best way to backup the efs folder?
Can u just use root explorer and copy the whole folder to extsdcard and then put the backup on the pc for future use
OR
What are the best apps for making backups and are they 100% guaranteed to make a working backup and restore with no problems?
Back up as many ways as you can, copy it to pc, use k-pack tool from the market, and copy those from your sd to pc as well, can't be too safe!
Just to update u guys pro efs will backup your efs folder to your pc no problem I recommend using this before flashing too much

Not 100% on the whole contents of the efs folder but its very important as it contains your imei number which is like a mac address its unique to your phone to identify it on a network always worth keeping a backup incase sonething happens to it

EFS is one of the partitions in the root directory which stores some of the most important data such as IMEI number, phone number etc, things which are unique to your device and will make your phone a paperweight (no network connection) if you mess with it..
Take a backup of this folder in case you face any problems..
heya guys,, ive messed up my imei.. luckly enough i have the efs-backup.tar and efs-backup.tar.md5 but how do i restore it ??
Not exactly sure but I'm sure it works the same way we replace stock recovery with cwm recovery .
I think u have to use adb and mount the image to correct point /mnt/blockXXXXX
Actually come to think of it I'm sure there's an app "efs restore" or something similar.

Hello Guys ,
I have an old backup with Samsung Galaxy S3 ToolKit with a 4.1.2 android version
however my phone is now 4.3.0 and I want some picture from this old backup files without rstoring the whole file to my device as Iam afraid it might damage it because it was an old android version
is there a way to extract or open the .bak file without putting it back on my phone ?
Any help ??

hello ????
Help please ???????
I've never used that tool. But, why don't you downgrade to 4.1.2 (mg4 baseband or higher), restore the backup, and then do a regular backup of the stuff you need?
If you don't want to loose stuff you have right now on 4.3, just nandroid backup before the downgrade.
This method requieres you to use odin twice, but it beats spamming the same post over and over waiting for divine enlightenment.

As long as you downgrade to 4.1.2 with mg4 baseband or higher, none at all (because efs is the sane format as 4.3 firmwares).
Yes I did with mg4 baseband amd no problem at all
