heya guys,, ive messed up my imei.. luckly enough i have the efs-backup.tar and efs-backup.tar.md5 but how do i restore it ??
Not exactly sure but I'm sure it works the same way we replace stock recovery with cwm recovery .
I think u have to use adb and mount the image to correct point /mnt/blockXXXXX
Actually come to think of it I'm sure there's an app "efs restore" or something similar.

Try this kTool! I do not know if it works I have not tried but has support for Galaxy S3 (International I9300 - *NOT* US variants)! Good luck!

Hi
I`ve just rooted with cf-root and wanted to backup my EFS, just in case.
On my Sgs2 i used hellcatdroid`s Ktool, wich was quick and easy, but its not working with the sgs3. I saw an option for it in the galaxy s3 toolkit, but i can`t seem to get it to work with my phone/computer ( cf-root might have something to to with it ?)
Hope someone can point me in the right direction
Have not seen any compatible apps yet, although plenty of ways that can be sourced with a little search....
EFS Backup Pro is an excellent and trouble free method (PC required), flashing some custom roms and kernels will automatically backup EFS to sdcard too.
ADB commands......

Flash Siyah kernel and you will have a backup of the efs

You just jogged my memory and I checked my backup too. Remember the .tar didn't work as well, but the .img did. As long as its kept in multiple safe places.

yes, it does.
Hi every1
I see a lot of ppl on the QA complain about losing their imei number due to bad flashing and other circumstances.
I dont wanna risk screwing up my phone flashing roms so I was wondering what is the least hassle/best way to backup the efs folder?
Can u just use root explorer and copy the whole folder to extsdcard and then put the backup on the pc for future use
OR
What are the best apps for making backups and are they 100% guaranteed to make a working backup and restore with no problems?
Back up as many ways as you can, copy it to pc, use k-pack tool from the market, and copy those from your sd to pc as well, can't be too safe!
Just to update u guys pro efs will backup your efs folder to your pc no problem I recommend using this before flashing too much

Not 100% on the whole contents of the efs folder but its very important as it contains your imei number which is like a mac address its unique to your phone to identify it on a network always worth keeping a backup incase sonething happens to it

EFS is one of the partitions in the root directory which stores some of the most important data such as IMEI number, phone number etc, things which are unique to your device and will make your phone a paperweight (no network connection) if you mess with it..
Take a backup of this folder in case you face any problems..

Have a look here => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
In the first post, there is a Quick Root Guide.
For you old firmware, the second (DooMLoRD's zergRush exploit) method might still work.
That is very easy and will not increase the flash counter.
Good luck.
P.S.: As your firmware is very old, you really should consider to flash a newer ROM. Maybe you should create a complete system backup in CWM recovery (=> nandroid backup) after rooting. Then flash a new ROM. And if it does not work or you don't like it, you can restore the backup again to go back to your current system.
As soon as you are rooted, you can use Mobile Odin app to flash other stock firmware versions and/or custom kernels without increasing the flash counter.
Does this erase any memory in my mobile?
Sent from my GT-I9100G using xda app-developers app
Rooting wont erase anything, but flashing a new firmware/rom will. Won't erase your pictures, music etc but will delete your apps, contacts and messages. You can always make a backup of your contacts and messages using apps like SMS backup+
Once your rooted, you can make a backup of your apps with titanium backup.
This is a very common doubt.Search the forums for more information.

Well, I believe you should be a little worried for the future - I am a little surprised that the phone still lets you place calls on the network, the phone was probably a totally unlocked version from the start.

LOL !
Sorry :/. But it's funny... Lot of people try custom ROM / change the kernel .. but always the same sentence : "I don't have backup / I don't have EFS backup". It's the first thing to do (bakcup EFS folder) after unpacking and rooting the phone.
Now, we can try flashing an official galaxy S3 rom. If it doesn't work, thanks Wanamlite and welcome to Samsung Service Center (no phone for 1 month and some $ for us).
Well I made a nandroid back up and I deleted it by mistake lol (

I think u have the imei sv changed not yhe imei...my imei sv also change from 01 to 04 or 03
Everything is working normally here too
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
If the IMEI has changed probably something went wrong with your /efs
try to search the new IMEI in google, maybe its a default one assigned when efs is corrupt ; but not every carriers will allow it.
If you did not save youe /efs only Samsung service can restore it and you may have to pay.
Yes it's only the imesv so it's nothing to be worried about ??? ... I flashed stock and it back to 01 ...

Nandroid backups all the phone excepted /EFS folder, so it is useless for you !
If only IMEI SV is changed, no worry about it.

Look for the stock rom and flash from there its not recommend to restore from someone else's backup ur guaranteed a brick and paperweight device
And it would be better if we had a model # and carrier to find a stock ROM for u

I doubt someone will send you that data because its there content and what I explained earlier about bricking your device still apply
Not a good idea
I do not know why you are asking for this, if you are trying to get the stock ROM you can find it on sammobile.com, We can help you better if you explain us what's the problem.
Or just flash a Rom in recovery man. No one is going to give you a cwm backup considering all of their private information would come with it.
