It more of the radio..its in there, but you'd have to disassemble the phone, and void your warranty more, or course.

Hi, id like to know if the Photon 4G is CDMA or GSM with a Sim Card Slot? because im about to buy one from amazon and id like to know if it is one or both and how to recognize which one is it
It is both, it uses the sim for GSM and uses CDMA without the sim. You cant use a domestic sim for GSM, for now atleast.

Meaning you can't take a sim card from AT&T or another GSM provider within the US and plug it into Photon and expect it to work. Its locked out for GSM in the US. It works internationally though.

LOL I totally had that typed out ready to post before I reread and saw that he meant the phone and not specifically the 4g. Unless I just misinterpreted that completely lol, which would make it the second time

I have just bought an unlocked Sprint unit from ebay, hoping to use the GSM slot for my primary pre-paid line in Nigeria, and the CDMA slot for one of the CDMA providers in Nigeria as well. I plan to take the unit to be programmed into a CDMA network in Nigeria; that will cost me about US$50. Meanwhile, I successfully rooted and flashed ParanoidROM JB, but I saw that it showed no GSM signal at all with the JB ROM, so I restored the original GB 2.3.5 Nandroid backup. There seems to be very little documentation on how the dual system works. Will I be able to use both the CDMA and GSM together, in a dual-standby fashion, in Nigeria?
I flashed the KDDI radio and cm10 and have used my MoPho on T-Mobile.
Don't forget to thank all who help!

Big Red won't activate it unless they sold it.
So I've been reading on these forums that some roms don't have gsm working. Can someone explain what gsm is and what it does? Sorry for noob question.

"Global System for Mobile Communications"
This technology uses a small SIM card to contain the mobile phone details such as your phone number & etc. This allows one to swap the SIM card into another phone and have it simply work. The SIM card can also store a limited number of phone numbers. The technology is used everywhere in the world, but only on AT&T and T-Mobile in America.

Not sure to understand since I'm not in those carrier and I can swap my SIM card into any other phone and it will still work. I'm in Canada and this works for any carrier for all I know. The SIM also contains phone numbers and can hold a bunch of SMS.

I forgot about the SMS storage. Your SIM card can be put into any other GSM phone. It could not be put into a Verizon phone, for example.
I just take from my unt which is at U.S,A the HTC EVO 3D and i realised that it dosent has a port to sim card its a cdma phone. Can i do something to make it work in Vodafone greece please .It is amazing phone..

with Tapatalk 2 it will work?I do not know enything about anroid phones so sorry bothering you.....
thanks a lot...
What your asking is impossible mate, you may possibly be able to take the phone apart and see of its possible to switch to a gsm network simcard, but then you will also need to convert system ril files to gsm ones, then switch cdma cid with your country and carrier gsm cid, aswell as the gsm radio/firmware but, even then its not guaranteed to work, what you have in retrospect is an iPhone 4 with the features of an ipod touch 3rd gen
See if you can trade on eBay or similar cdma straight swop for a gsm
is there a way to make it work in greece then or not?
I am sorry guys.....i am an idiot i know but i love this phone from the moment i got it into my hands.....
Final answer is no no no
Signature (Don't ask me for help, couldn't careless if your phone explodes)

I don't think you can, cdma and gsm handle the radio waves needed differently so a cdma phone can't access a gsm network
Or you could move to the united states and then your phone will work

As 85gallon said, you are! I am fairly certain all ROMS, files, etc. that work on the Razr also work on the Razr Maxx. The Maxx is just the regular Razr with a larger battery!

I thought the XT912 is a CDMA device but I found a micro SIM card in it too. So I have to install GSM ROMS, right?

With it being a 4g lte phone, it uses the micro sim to connect, but being on verizon, you'll still flash cdma roms

As stated, the sim card is strictly for the LTE functionality.
Couldn't find much on this, but is the spot to the left of the micro sd slot usable for the SDHC? If so how do you access it? Thanks ahead of time.
No that is the micro SIM card slot for LTE versions of the tablet (blocked on the WiFi versions for obvious reasons). The micro SD card slot accepts SDHC though.

No. That spot is where a SIM card would be installed. It is blocked with a piece of plastic on WiFi only models.
