Hi, I have used Xperia S for several months and I found it beautiful and convenient to use.
After updating to 4.0.4, I started testing on all functions of Xperia S and it really improved on ICS!
However, when I tested the video capturing function, the video quality is vivid, sound quality is clear but I noticed that it is mono sound when I listened on my earphone.
I am finding whether there is a setting for me to change the mic from mono to stereo but I can't.
I know that there is a way to modify the quality and sound channels by editing system files but it requires Root.
Does anyone know whether I can have stereo sound in video recordings or will Sony make my dream come true? It's really disappointing to know that a flagship model (at least in 2012 first season) have no stereo sound recording....
If there is only one microphone in the phone, how would you get stereo recording?

Can you name a phone for me that 'in 2012' can record true stereo? You can create a 'fake' stereo effect with various apps I think, but a true stereo recording device doesn't exist yet....

Exactly...there are two mics on Xperia s and why Sony enables only one instead of two?
And I think a 2012 flagship model should have 2 channels recording since most 2011 and even 2010 models have it like GS2 N8 etc.

You've proven want I said before and I don't really understand why a dual core, 2012 model have no stereo recording but older models have it.
The quality of Xperia S's mic is good but it is not the same thing and unusable when it is only mono since I want to record my journey to complete my assignment using Xperia S... Stereo and mono are far too different and irreplaceable.
Is this true! damn it! dont want no mono audio! why the Fudge the did this! bastards.
TRY LG camera App, Choose Record in stereo, if its works, it works, if its force closes it is disabled by the ics update.

Confused?
all my vids i've done come out of two speakers or Stereo as well call in the trade.
The phone has two mikes as one is used to cancel out background sound.
EG: out in the wind, want to call your misses , all she will hear are your wonderful tones and not the howling gale your are ( trying ) to stand in .
SONY XPERIA S NO STEREO proof
here we go. i just finished my video - ENJOY

The video is really well-made!
And Xperia play have a pair of good mic...
Should we report to Sony to tell them to enable the stereo recording?

The difference is clear on the sound, and on the video quality too.
also you can here stupid noise in background on 2nd videos, some guy just cleaning all windows etc in our apartments complex using karcher
This is so poor.
I am really disappointed.
Sony has really fcuked up software department.
How the f...c such a company can release GOOD upgrade and than that crappy one!!!
Damn they will be always minor on the market and with so many problems they create
I wish them THE WORSE.
I mean - they work on this upgrade for MONTHS!!!
And still screw it.
Was it stereo before ICS update?
I think so, I'm going to find a video that would be obvious.
Edit: nope, it was never stereo.

It is because the ics update.
In arc the video recording was stereo until ics update came and the video recording has been turned to mono

Without any unlikely stops!
you can find the player and the codec in the play store
couldn't tell at first until I loaded a song that has a wide range of bass an high notes an there is a improvement. Using my normal ear buds could barely tell the difference got my bigger headphones hooked up an ya the bass is alot clearer an deeper.

Camera tries...
I just try to flash camera libs from other places but it dosen´t work like i guess, anyone of you know a small solve for the camera?
Can't the beats audio included in the rom?
Ask paulxxx for this, he is who should add the libs, but for the continue version, the last version of it, the sound improves greatly.
For the camera we need the adreno200 libs, submit your request for this

Is there any way to change the microphone gain for recording videos? For example, I find the gain is way too high for recording concerts, all I get is hissing distorted audio. I was an an Aerosmith concert the other day and the audio quality is that bad that all you can hear is noise, no music at all.
I have rooted my phone and have xposed framework installed but I didnt see any apps or anything on there for this to happen.
I used to have a Motorola Atrix a few years ago and it had a recording option for concerts, which lowered the gain and made it excellent quality for videos.
Any ideas would be helpful, cheers!
Flash doom kernel. It will give you the ability to change the gain

I agree, I recorded some video at a concert last weekend and it's all broken up and distorted. Such a shame since the video quality is so great. I would think firmware/software could fix this. I don't want to have to buy the external mic just to get a quality recording.

The answer would seem to be an external STM10 mic.
Funnily enough, at an Aerosmith concert too:

I found some good settings for Viper4Android in order to use when plugged in the aux jack of the car. The speakers in the vehicle are not very great and I am sure there are many of us that have to bear with the junky speakers for the time being. These settings give me nice sound with crisper bass so the speakers do NOT crackle and rattle.
Credit for the IRS file goes to BSDgeek_Jake and the original thread, HighDefinition Impulse Responses Samples (IRS) for Viper4Android.
I've got 4 Sony's I bought from Walmart. They aren't top of the line, but I wouldn't call em low end either. Have you tried these settings with BT ?

I have not tried them with BT, but I would imagine they would give you some good sound. I spent about 5 days searching for IRS files and the correct settings because my speakers would crackle, the highs were off, and other various discomforting sounds. lol. Give it a try and let me know how it sounds. You the only thing you may have to adjust is the viper bass settings. I have them at 6 db and 40 ghz, so if you have the sonys then you may be able to get a little more bass without the distortion.
Why do I not have bass type "subwoofer" and clarity "xhfi"?

You may have the wrong version of Viper4android installed?
It tried these settings in my car audio (Sony) and it worked good. I further optimized and was able to make more ambient sound. I will share my settings soon as i am still working to fine tune more.

Hey, thanks for the suggestion. But one question. I'm subscribed to Google Play Music how can I increase the level from Google music app?
The songs downloaded are not recognised by 3rd party Music Players. Even Poweramp is not recognising it.
It is pretty clear that the device has the potential to deliver the best audio at an optimum level but people at Asus are giving a deaf ear to this. I guess a little bit of coding or just a software update can sort the problem. Or some hack might help.

Or just use viper4android or something like that, the dolby atmos, or other sound mods are also available. They work systemwide. I haven't tested and don't know any will work or not. Report here if someone tries.
Poweramp Hi-Res Output will only work if Viper4FX is not installed. With Viper the audio is capped at 16 bit, uninstall it and experience 24 bit audio. It does make a huge difference for high quality music files (lossless .FLAC). Happy with my Shure SE 215 now.
Viper ,Dolby are capped only upto 16bit 48khz ..,..
Poweramp uses its own build DSP to trigger 24bit 384khz of sd636 built in DAC bypassing Nxp smart amp.....
Poweramp is dope......none can match its sound quality.....
I hope that Nxp smart amp support 24bit 384khz audio seraching a way to implement it
Works amazingly man. Now I can finally retire my Mi A1.
Works nice...but after enabling.... I can't control it's volume. Even with system media volume to zero....songs play at maximum sound.
Is there equalizer app or something to improve sound?
Not while using headphones (aka not huawei sound effects)
My sound is very very low on latest update. I think Huawei broke something.
Question, does Mate 10 pro uses internal dac and sends analog signal trough USB port or it needs an active dongle with dac inside like Pixel and most phones?

I feel that too i think my sound speakers were louder when i first got it
They could improve it alot by allowing the earpiece act as stereo rather than high frequency
As i have stereo+ turned on so in youtube for example when i rotate the phone the sound experience really changes
As I've said elsewhere download equalizer pro. Works brilliantly and I use all the time with Spotify.

Most definitely. I am seriously considering downgrading my rom to an older os. It's just unbearably too low and tinny.
