Is there any way to change the microphone gain for recording videos? For example, I find the gain is way too high for recording concerts, all I get is hissing distorted audio. I was an an Aerosmith concert the other day and the audio quality is that bad that all you can hear is noise, no music at all.
I have rooted my phone and have xposed framework installed but I didnt see any apps or anything on there for this to happen.
I used to have a Motorola Atrix a few years ago and it had a recording option for concerts, which lowered the gain and made it excellent quality for videos.
Any ideas would be helpful, cheers!

I agree, I recorded some video at a concert last weekend and it's all broken up and distorted. Such a shame since the video quality is so great. I would think firmware/software could fix this. I don't want to have to buy the external mic just to get a quality recording.

The answer would seem to be an external STM10 mic.
Funnily enough, at an Aerosmith concert too:

I read about the click/pop noise but I dont know if this is related. Mostly the audio track within the video recordings is quite good. But this weird noise I didnt hear really until Im recording whule my car is running. My cars exhaust isnt real loud but it does have more noise and bass than average.... Along with the engine pullies/powet ateering noise. But, what this plays back sounds all swishy and garbled... It sounds like extreme audio compression .. weird electronic noise.. like it totally deforms the sound of the engine. Idk what could be causing this. I also get this noise while recording in voice recorder usibg the AAC LC mode. Sometimes I will heR weird knock sounds ... That I KNOW my car did not make.
I just got this phone a couple weeks vack and I absolutely love it, coming from a Touch Pro 2 with a bad mic... This is the only thing that bugs me because it craps up the audio .. I have an audio sample that you can hear.. Just dont know where to put it.
Thanks in advance..
it encodes audio at 128kbps which is absolute garbage.. that's probably why

Look in the thread "audio recording click/pop". I posted a video in there.
Mods, can you delete this thread? Read what I wrote in the other thread for the reason. Sorry about that.... It was in another forum that I read about the pop/clik issue. Got them confused. Haven't been here in a long while
I was wondering if anyone has found a way to improve the audio that is recorded when video recording. It seems like if I am recording live music, or anything too loud (but not incredibly loud) the audio is just really bad and tinny.
Just wondering if there was an app or a mod to fix this and maybe change the recording gain.
Thanks!
PS - I am already rooted and running on SHOStock
Thats just how the quality of the microphone is... The microphone the video recorder uses is the front facing microphone which is next to the headphone jack I believe.

This works for the i777, I have tried it and audio does improve.
Also what you can do is replace the camera.apk from your current rom with a camera.apk from a different rom that has an improved audio quality. Ex: the camera.apk in UnNamed rom has an improved video recording audio quality. So take that camera.apk and replace it with the camera.apk in your current rom. That should do the trick
Shostock already ups the quality to 128kbps and with AAC, anything higher isn't that useful unlike MP3.
And the fix gtg465x tried to implement doesn't work. I tried it.

Alright, thanks for the info!
It's a fundamental limitation of anything with a built-in mic. Especially a phone.
Even my Canon HD camcorder had a crappy mic - couldn't come close to what an external mic or a standalone recorder (like the Zoom H2) could do.
Hi guys!! I have checked that if i flash the audio beats of this post:

I hope to be helpfull
For video
Hi! another adjust i found we can improve the video using mx player with codec and playing in software mod, it works perfectly!
Without any unlikely stops!
you can find the player and the codec in the play store
couldn't tell at first until I loaded a song that has a wide range of bass an high notes an there is a improvement. Using my normal ear buds could barely tell the difference got my bigger headphones hooked up an ya the bass is alot clearer an deeper.
Yeaap!

By other way if you have tried the software video in MX player, you would have good results playing videos no? excume for my bad english

I just try to flash camera libs from other places but it dosen´t work like i guess, anyone of you know a small solve for the camera?
Can't the beats audio included in the rom?
Ask paulxxx for this, he is who should add the libs, but for the continue version, the last version of it, the sound improves greatly.
For the camera we need the adreno200 libs, submit your request for this

Hi, I have used Xperia S for several months and I found it beautiful and convenient to use.
After updating to 4.0.4, I started testing on all functions of Xperia S and it really improved on ICS!
However, when I tested the video capturing function, the video quality is vivid, sound quality is clear but I noticed that it is mono sound when I listened on my earphone.
I am finding whether there is a setting for me to change the mic from mono to stereo but I can't.
I know that there is a way to modify the quality and sound channels by editing system files but it requires Root.
Does anyone know whether I can have stereo sound in video recordings or will Sony make my dream come true? It's really disappointing to know that a flagship model (at least in 2012 first season) have no stereo sound recording....
If there is only one microphone in the phone, how would you get stereo recording?
Sent from my LT26i using XDA
Can you name a phone for me that 'in 2012' can record true stereo? You can create a 'fake' stereo effect with various apps I think, but a true stereo recording device doesn't exist yet....

Exactly...there are two mics on Xperia s and why Sony enables only one instead of two?
And I think a 2012 flagship model should have 2 channels recording since most 2011 and even 2010 models have it like GS2 N8 etc.

You've proven want I said before and I don't really understand why a dual core, 2012 model have no stereo recording but older models have it.
The quality of Xperia S's mic is good but it is not the same thing and unusable when it is only mono since I want to record my journey to complete my assignment using Xperia S... Stereo and mono are far too different and irreplaceable.
Is this true! damn it! dont want no mono audio! why the Fudge the did this! bastards.
TRY LG camera App, Choose Record in stereo, if its works, it works, if its force closes it is disabled by the ics update.

Try the LG camera app from Gplay and try stereo setting, if it crashed it aint working as disabled by ICS update.
if it works, u can root phone and manage some files to force it to record in STEREO

all my vids i've done come out of two speakers or Stereo as well call in the trade.
The phone has two mikes as one is used to cancel out background sound.

The difference is clear on the sound, and on the video quality too.
also you can here stupid noise in background on 2nd videos, some guy just cleaning all windows etc in our apartments complex using karcher
This is so poor.
I am really disappointed.
Sony has really fcuked up software department.
How the f...c such a company can release GOOD upgrade and than that crappy one!!!
Damn they will be always minor on the market and with so many problems they create
I wish them THE WORSE.
I mean - they work on this upgrade for MONTHS!!!
And still screw it.
Was it stereo before ICS update?
I think so, I'm going to find a video that would be obvious.
Edit: nope, it was never stereo.

Can anyone test video recording on a concert or with very loud music? LG said it can record very loud music and I'm curious about sound recording quality.
It records very loud music by turning the ear speaker into another microphone for high decibel environment.

Yes please more LG V30 music recordings the more the better ☺
Just curious if the high volume audio recording feature kicks in only with the HD audio app, video recording, or with other 3rd party apps as well? Seems like it needs to be a software feature design to take advantage, unless controlled by motherboard firmware of some sort.
V30 concert recording
Hi,
i have a few concert videos onlone recorded with the V30 , but i am not allowed to post a link before i have 10 posts because i am a new user.
If anybody wants to check the videos out, you can visit my Youtube channel named Didi O by searching for :
Helloween - I Want Out @ Porsche Arena Stuttgart 2017
gain turned down, limiter at 0db, low cut off - the phone switched to concert mode from the beginning on
HELLOWEEN - A TALE THAT WASN`T RIGHT @ PUMPKINS UNITED WORLD TOUR 2017 STUTTGART
at 1:30 the phone switches to concert mode and the sound gets worse, does anyone know how to deactivate concert mode because in my opinion it is enough to turn the gain down?
Rise Against - People Live Here @ Festhalle Frankfurt 15.11.2017
the phone did not switch to concert mode, the sound is much clearer than in concert mode
Sleeping With Sirens The Strays London 2017
at 0:58 the phone switched automatically to concert mode and the sound gets worse
I hope that my V30 concert videos are useful and i hope i could manage to switch the concert mode off one time so that i can record better audio only with the gain turned down.
If anyone has suggestions let me know.

So after watching your videos, I noticed that when it switches over to concert mode, it is recording in MONO. That's partly why it sounds worse. Makes sense being that the ear piece it uses is only one speaker. So if you only have one speaker to switch over as a mic, you basically have 1 mic. Making it a mono recording.
Thanks for your reply, yes this is possible.
I have two audio channels (left and right with the same signal because of only one mic) and the speaker taken as a mic has another recording quality - thats it - but it is worse thats the problem.
In my opinion they better had turned the gain down again if the phone switches to concert mode instead of taking the speaker as mic.
Maybe i could increase the sound level a little bit with some foam/tape on the two mics so that the phone didn´t switch to concert mode, but this would also change the recording quality.

Does the V30 have the option of changing gain settings like the V10 does? With my V10 I have a setting in the video settings that allows me to dial the gain back a bit, and also change the direction it is coming from. I am sure that is something you have checked for though right?
Yes, in manual video mode you can adjust the gain level, turn on the low pass filter and use the limiter - not more, the v10 has more options.
To turn on the low pass filter makes no sense because the bass is missing in such recordings, the limiter is in my recordings always at 0db.
I turned the gain already totally down and the phone even switches to concert mode if it is getting too loud.
For me it would be fine if i could only turn the gain down at a concert without concert mode, that records only in mono and with the speaker as microphone.
I dont´t know how loud the music was but i think it must have been 100 db or a little more.
LG says that the V30 can handle up to 140db but i don´t know when the concert mode switches on automatically, in my case on the video Helloween - A Little Tale That Wasn´t Right the phone went to concert mode even when it wasn´t too loud.
On my other videos the concert mode switched on from the beginning.

I have a suggestion. May we suggest you to organize those videos shot with V30 into playlist "Concert video audio camera recordings with LG V30". That way it'd be first when people would search youtube for concert recordings of V30
Does V30 let one record audio in LPCM format when shooting in manual settings like V20 did?
I don't know what audio format it is but in HIFI mode it records in 24bit and in stereo, when the phone switches to concert mode it records the audio in mono using the speaker as a mic.
The Sleeping With Sirens video above is not recorded vith the V30 the Helloween videos and the Rise Against - People Live Here video are from the V30 but The Sleeping With Sirens The Strays London 2017 video is recorded with the V30.
I just recorded some of the Trans Siberian orchestra last night. Normal mode. No issues switching into concert mode.
It was not that loud so perhaps that has some to do with it.

Correct. You have to cross the 120db threshold to activate the RAM. Chances are that is outside of TSO's standard procedures.

Can you explain how you know it gets into concert mode ? does it say concert mode in the view finder
All i can tell is if you do not change any audio settings it will record as is and when the volume gets too loud then it will use the headset speaker as a mic and disable the remaining ones.
I don't know if there is a way to disable this receiver as mic functionality, maybe if you try with the limiter at -3db or -6dB. This will prevent levels from reaching 0 and maybe not require headset mic to activate. If you do so let us know it will be interesting to see the difference.

If it is getting too loud the displays shows that the phone switched to concert mode even when the gain level is turned down.
I will try to use the limiter at -3db and -6db on friday at a loud concert and let you know if the phone also will turn on automatically the concert mode .
Thank you! This explains why my FB Live videos sound terrible but my regular videos sound amazing! I am a music promoter and I pretty much exclusively record music performances.
If you're still interested.... Using HD Audio Recorder, holding the phone vertically records in Mono; while holding in landscape, records in Stereo. This applies to both Concert and Custom Modes.
