[Q] Remapping menu key long press - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can anyone tell me how to remap my menu key on s2 to open recent apps/task manager on long press. Is it possible?

Nobody?

Use Nova launcher. You will see the option under Nova settings > Gesture and buttons > Long press menu

Is there any way to get this option in apex launcher?

try Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications -> All -> Launcher -> Clear data.
If it did not resolve your issue, backup ADW launcher settings, uninstall and install it again, after that when you click home it should popup for you to choose between the launchers.

QX Senseless question

Just installed QX Senseless on my dinc 4g and I'm a bit confused as to what to do now that the menu button is removed.. It never pops up on apps so I can never access menus. Is there a settings option for this or what?

Thank you for the quick reply but my multitask button is still a multitask button. Is there a setting to switch it to the menu button? cause i cant find one
Install the 3remapbasic from con247 which is in the dev forum. You will not have a recent apps button but it will remap that button to be menu.
Yeah the recent apps mod was not included. I believe he wanted to get permission to use it first.

[Q] Remapping button keys

Hey, is there any rom/mod allowing remapping of GSIII button keys?
I'd love to get Recent Apps open by using the left Menu Button instead of double clickin' on the Home Button (a sort of Nexus style, whose Recent App button was the soft key on the right). To be honest, I'd like to swap them (double click Home Button for menu, tap left button for Recent Apps).
Thanks!
I remember cm10 has this feature.

I'd like the power buttonto be a shutter button when in camera mode

Change function of home button?

Any easy way to change functions of things like home/menu buttons, if for example I want to quickly pull up task manager without having to long press home. I find that to be tedious.

Here is an app that can launch apps by pressing home button twice.

Meh, I'd rather a single press for task manager, or better yet.. menu key and then hold for menu. I don't need hold menu for search.
Nova launcher lets you do what you please with menu and home buttons, for long and short press

Thanks for that recommendation, I'm using that nova as my default launcher. But it still doesn't really do what I'm looking for. It only works while on desktop and doesn't have a tap menu feature. I need something global. Hope I'm not being too picky lol

If you're rooted, you can edit the function of the home button pretty easily.

If you use that tutorial above, you'll see the properties of the keys. I enabled the on screen keys, disabled the capacitive keys, and remapped the home button to launch the camera instead of being a home button.

3rd party launchers and the menu bar

I am considering getting a HTC One but one of my reservations is that I use Apex launcher and am wondering about the two softkey layout of the phone. with there being no menu button, is there that annoying menu bar always on the bottom when using 3rd party launchers? If not, how can you access that menu on this phone?

I think you mean the three dot settings button, right? Yah, it will display a bar at the bottom of the screen with the buttons. However, you can install a custom rom that will remove the bar and allow you to long press the back button to open that menu.
Bummer. Are there any other launchers that dont have the menu bar at the bottom, without rooting? Its not that I am afraid of rooting, but I dont want to mess with my phone's basic functionality right out of the box.

Use XPOSED MOD it has a module to remove 3-dot menu.

I am using the Apex launcher, and there is no black "three dots" at the bottom. It works fine.
On the other hand, I tried the Go Launcher EX, and that one I had to uninstall because it did have the black bar.
EDIT: Not rooted.
Awesome! How do you access the menu then from the home screen using this phone?

You can long press on any empty space and the menu will come up. Or, it can be accessed from the app drawer, top right. Three dots there.
