I know there are some who reported problems with WiFi after upgrading to ICS 4.0.4. It is just today I noticed something on my LWW.
I can connect to a hotspot but I can't open any web pages and getting connection timed out on the Play Store. I remember this is working the other day so its kind of intermittent?
I rebooted my phone but gets the same thing.
Any ideas?
Do a settings reset.
If it doesn't help, then do a Factory Reset
Thanks,
Rick

Ok, will give it a shot. Thanks, Rick!
Ok, I reset my settings and repaired my phone using PCC. It says connected but I cannot load any apps or pages.
I am testing on a single WiFi spot at the moment. I will have so test another spot. Sigh...
Hi!
My friend just now had the exact same problem as you.
He updated his Xperia Active to ICS today and lost WiFi settings.
When I input the same router's settings as they were on GB they refused to work --> WiFi router connected, but internet, google play, apps,... didn't work.
Problem was, because I had static IP settings and I didn't input ALL fields in one stroke in advanced menu.
After I deleted the initial WiFi connection from his list, I used this tutorial:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1577877
My config is:
IP: 192.168.1.21
gateway: 192.168.1.1
network prefix length: 24
DNS 1: 8.8.8.8
DNS 2: 4.4.4.4
I left "4.4.4.4" because it took me a while to configure everything and my friend was in a hurry. Everything works because it relies on working first DNS: "8.8.8.8" (Google's DNS).
Right numbers for DNS 2 are either "192.168.1.1" (Router's IP) or "8.8.4.4" (Google's backup DNS).
I didn't know I had to input ALL fields in one stroke!

A couple of days ago my wireless connection quit working at home. The wireless network icon turned white all the time, and never switched to green. I hard wire the modem/router (ATT Uversre 2Wire 3800HGV-B) into a 5 port switch and plug my computer, network storage drive, and media streaming box into the switch. I've had all of this set up for a few months in it's current configuration and there was never an issue before. This just seemingly happened out of the blue...funny how computers do that sometimes, right? I have an HTC Aria, I was running CM7 RC1 when the problem happened, I just updated to RC2 hoping maybe it would change and it didn't.
After reading posts and checking settings here's what I've found:
My wireless router is set to act as the DHCP server. I set all of the IP addresses manually. I've had it set this way for some time, haven't made any changes recently. The attached network storage (D-Link DNS 323 also has DHCP server capability, but that is disabled)
I found that while my phone was set in the router's setting to connect to 192.168.1.67 for whatever reason it was connecting to 192.168.0.200 (which is out of range, my DHCP is set to address to 192.168.1.64 - 192.168.1.253)
Any idea what would cause this?
I have a temporary fix right now, I've set the phone for static IP and entered all the values. It now connects to my home network on the correct IP and appears to work. This will be a hassle though because there will likely be conflicts when I try to connect to public wifi or at my office. I could just go in and set it back to automatic IP when I leave home....but that is a hassle, and obviously, something isn't working quite right.
Anybody have a clue what would be making this happen?
thanks!

I don't understand when you say your router is your DHCP server but you set all the addresses manually...I can understand setting your network storage and media streaming to static IP's but you may want to reconsider for everything else, if your router allows for that to happen.
Have you tried rebooting your router and switch? May be worth doing that. I would not recommend a RESET because you'll have to reconfigure everything and I know how much of a hassle that is.
So, when you say you set the phone for static IP, do you mean through the phone gui or through the router?
Another thing to check is the number of available IP addresses. You could be out. I doubt this is the case in a home network, but never hurts to check.

Didn't help I don't get what's happening. I can use the browser fine but certain applications always time out and won't update.
I have the same problem. I've found the following apps to not work correctly when I connect my Sprint HTC Evo 4G (CM 7.0.3.1) to my home wireless network (Apple Airport Extreme Base Station):
Facebook (news feed won't update)
Amazon MP3 (Only the cloud player doesn't work)
Netflix (won't let me log in)
Speedtest (downloads fine but shows 0.00Mbps for uploads)
Again, all features works great on 3G or on the wifi at work (a university network running WPA2 Enterprise with LEAP authentication), which leads me to suspect there's something wrong with my home wifi setup. I have updated the Airport Extreme to the latest firmware and reset it several times yet the problem persists. Any ideas?

Mmm.. Do you have bluetooth or EDGE/3G activated ? It might make some problems.
Another thing, which policy suspension do you have for WiFi ?
after trying everything, i used a static IP to connect and finally it seems to work.
thanks for your interest.
i haven't bluetooth or EDGE/3G active, the policy suspension of is never! i format sd card and reinstall rom but the problem continues....

Same for me
The same problem in almost all these ROMs.
I'm using the MiniCMPro V7 and I'm trying to debug it by reading the logcat and editing some config files, will post/edit any advance later.
It worked by using aymanxp's method as a workaround.
By reading the logcat I found that something is forcing the dhcp server on the phone to lease a new IP after some time [receives a SIGTERM] although it obtained an infinite lease.
In other topic, why android does not have a separated config (Static/dynamic, IP, DNS, etc...) for each wireless connection?
B.R.
Update:
Well, my actual conclusion is that the WifiStateTracker Daemon is forcing DHCP to request ip renewal every 5 minutes or so, and if there are a valid or infinite lease in place, dhcp returns an error after waiting, so WifiStateTracker gets the wifi down and restarts DHCP, so lame.
Tried to find any config file but found none, only dhcpcd and wpa_supplicant, but nothing about the daemon.
So to have the wifi working properly, from now, the right way is to don't use dhcp?

Nope, won't work either.
@Pierrot12:
As a temporal workaround, yes
We can use static IP, but that would work just if using only one Wi-Fi network (as in the house OR the work), but for people like me, using more than one network, it's very annoying to edit the parameters every time the AP changes.
I'm tempted to write an app to replace the android's very simple AP managing system
I flash to Sonybread 7 SP3 and the problem continues...
I'm using v6 and I have not had any problems with WiFi. In fact, I think it's the most stable ROM. I have downloaded files flawlessly, which means that WiFi is not disconnecting right? Anyway, I'll put it to test..

Great! good luck
Actually found the problem, but don't know if it would work for anyone.
After some research and hits and misses, found that the problem with the DHCP client running in the MiniCM7-based ROMs does have a incompatibility with "Reserved IP" or "Infinite IP Lease" for a certain MAC, in other words you should use:
A) IP Assigned by the router (not reserved), or
B) Static IP configured on the device.
If that's not your case, then just wait for a fix from the devs or my app (still brainstorming ) or any workaround posted in this thread
@Pierrot12: Thank You!
@eysonfm Yeah, I was on that ROM and it's really stable. But I want MiniCM7 Pro
I have also problems wifi DHCP issues with MiniCM7 Pro V7+
I don't understand, because I got it from one moment to the other
Only
B) Static IP configured on the device.
is working for me
in terminal with netcfg I could see that I got an ip adress over dhcp. In Wifi manager stands getting IP address
I won't do an factory reset, maybe I can help somebody to find the bug by testing somethings
i'm having these issues with minicm7 pro v19 as well...

Also, i discovered that i had the "backup" and "restore..." options enabled under Settings -> privacy enabled. They were causing my phone to receive bad configurations saved in my google account in googles's servers...
so i disabled these otions, re-flashed minicm7pro, set up my router to "not reserve" the address for the minipro's MAC address and everything is working as it should since then!
Hi,
I'm trying to get my corporate Exchange mail to work on the internal wifi network at work.
Through 3G and wifi at home it works without problems, but on the internal wifi network the host webmail.mycompany.nl cannot be reached.
The reason that it cannot be reached is that the address webmail.mycompany.nl is a public IP address so the traffic wants to follow this route:
phone -> wifi accesspoint -> router -> firewall -> internet -> firewall -> exchange server
Of course the traffic ends at "internet" because you cannot go out and back into the firewall to reach an internal host.
We have several iPhone users at work that can use our internal proxyserver for the corporate wifi and get redirected through the proxy server (ms isa 2006)to the internal mailserver when they connect with webmail.mycompany.nl, but as we all know Android doesn't allow setting/using a proxy for a specific wifi connection and all programs.
Of course I've been promoting Android and mocking iOS since I got this new phone, but this issue seems to bite me in the *** atm
I tried using the ProxyDroid and AutoProxy apps to force connections through the proxyserver, but I cannot get the mail traffic to follow the route through the proxy (the phone still resolves webmail.mycompany.nl with the public ip address).
Of course I could edit the hosts file to make this work, but that would break the Exchange email when I'm not at work.
Is there a way/app to trick the phone when it is on the internal network to connect to the internal mailserver directly?
I know I could set up a second account sync but I'm afraid that would duplicate all my meetings/contacts/mails.
Phone:
Rooted Galaxy S2 with Android 2.3.6
Thanks in advance!
Regards,
Jeroen
hey could u tell me one thing .. autoproxy app is working on ur galaxy s2 rooted ???
Well it seems to do something, but not all I expected.
I can see my (stock) webbrowser traffic go through the ISA server when I run the monitoring on it, but all traffic is anonymous instead of using the NTLM credentials I provided in the proxy app.
Same happened with ProxyDroid.

We have an almost identical issue with our Motorola RAZRs running Android 2.3.5. Accessing our internal Exchange 2010 server with ActiveSync works great through the 3G/4G connection as well as through Wifi when connected to another Wifi network (such as at home). However, when these devices are connected to our corporate wifi network, we get errors in the Corporate Sync app that it cannot connect to the server.
We somewhat resolved this issue by creating a DNS record in our internal DNS servers to point to the internal address of the Exchange server. In the morning when we first come in to the office, if the wifi is turned on it will not be able to connect to the server until the phone is rebooted. Once it has rebooted with wifi turned on, it works great the rest of the day. If the phone loses the wifi connection for a period of time or someone leaves the office and comes back, it again will not connect and a reboot will bring the connection back.
I have installed a DNS lookup app on the phone and while connected to the corporate wifi it correctly resolves the webmail.company.com to the correct internal address. To me it appears that something related to the Corporate Sync app is caching addresses somewhere. We have four RAZRs that all exhibit the same issue. Our other Android phones seem to have no issue with this.
Motorola RAZR - OS: 2.3.5
Exchange 2010
Wish I could fix it by creating a dns entry on our corporate dns servers, but doing so will mean creating a zone for our external domain which will cause a lot more problems than my phone not syncing over wifi ;-)

Ok I just found the solution for my problem here:
http://serverfault.com/questions/13...use-hosts-file-to-resolve-specific-host-names
What I did:
I created a dns zone just for webmail.mycompany.nl with an unnamed A record with the internal IP.
Now all systems that use the internal dns servers (which my phone does when connected to wifi) resolve webmail.mycompany.nl (and only that address so no other mycompany.nl addresses) with the internal address
Edit: I might now run into jaredcochran's issue with the caching of dns names from the 3G connection, but I'm willing to give my phone a quick reboot if needed when I get in the office. Will see tomorrow morning...

Sorry to bother you with this, but I could not find anything remotely similar discussed anywhere.
My Sony Xperia S sometimes loses the default route for internet access.
The symptoms are:
- I can access all the local computers on the network just fine
- external web sites do not work
What I see when checking on the command line via "ip route" is
Code:
192.168.0.1 dev wlan0 scope link
Luckily my phone is rooted so I can just "su" and then
Code:
ip route add default via 192.168.0.1 dev wlan0
Afterwards, the internet access is working again for some time.
WiFI settings are set to a static IP address 192.168.0.11 with the default gateway configured to 192.168.0.1.
Why is the device losing the default route?
How can I prevent this?
Is there a file somewhere that needs to be changed for the route to persist?
I did not have this problem with Gingerbread. It started after upgrading to ICS.
Laptops work fine on the same WiFi network and do not lose internet access.
<Princess Leia voice>Please, XDAdevelopers, you are my last hope.</Princess Leia voice>
I'm having the same issue with my S after rooting/updating to ICE WIFI is still connected and LAN works ok, but no internet access turning WIFI on and off is the only way i can get it working
hope the is a fix
Sounds similar to an issue I was having as well. Actually, I was having it prior to the ICS update as well, i.e. with GB.
The only way I found to reliably get internet access on my SXS was to reconfigure my router to use DHCP, which was somewhat annoying. Had to reconfigure all my network nodes as well, of course, which were using static IPs.
Static IP had never been an issue with my old HTC Desire running GB (and earlier versions) or my ASUS Transformer with Honeycomb and ICS. Definitely seems to be SXS-specific.
I do not want to work through the hassle of changing the settings in my more than 20 devices on the network just to get this one working reliably.
Is there no other way than to switch on DHCP?
I tried DHCP and it didn't work for me.
and just because use run DHCP doesn't mean you would have to change all you devices, you can leave then as static.
I've been having the same issue on mine - did it occasionally on Gingerbread but has been noticeably worse on ICS - turning WiFi off then on again cures it 60% of the time, three off/on combos sorts it's 95% of the time
I noticed this week while visiting my parents that it worked first time every time, of course this is a DHCP setup!
I'll be setting my home router to give a fixed IP to my phone tonight - but that doesn't help at work where I need to override the DNS settings (don't care if the IP is dynamic or not - just need to use different DNS servers*!).
* And yup I have permission to do so - Facebook and a few others are crudely blocked using DNS, but authorised people are allowed access (basically so we can delete nasty posts) and this is over-ridden using static IP - gets annoying that Facebook trashes my authorisation when it falls in this blackhole.
For 3 days I've been trying to fix the 'unstable internet connection' on my phone to no avail. Finally I found a fix. This hasn't been listed anywhere I've seen and I've been researching this non-stop for days.
Go to your wifi connection and see what your IP address is. Then check your other devices. The IP address on the phone I was having the problem on was different from every other device in my house.
THE FIX
Choose your wifi network, tap and hold it. Choose modify. Then choose 'show advanced options. Under proxy settings choose manual. Under IP settings coose Static. You'll now be able to manually enter your IP address. As for the proxy host name, proxy port, and bybass proxy for, I just entered something random.
When I restarted my phone for the first time the 'unstable connection' part came back and I had to disconnect and reconnect and it was fine again.
Hope this helps people until we get a fix.

Does this work if you're on a dynamic IP network? What about if you're switching regularly between open and closed networks? This perhaps resets the WiFi. I've looked at advanced settings before, but this happens with mainly open networks, and I believe that these typically have dynamic IP addresses. The protected network in my home is rarely an issue, but open networks are what give me fits.
No harm in trying, and if it works, that'd be awesome. I'm wondering if done once it fixes all such issues that one encounters, or must be done with every new network.
@freeza has a fix in the works in the form of a kernel, and so far, it's pretty solid. The only issue I've found is that if ya flash anything, you have to reflash the fix. Odd, but does the job.

For this to really work, you'd need to do more than the OP states. ALL basic home routers/access points come setup with DHCP (dynamic host configuration protocol) which assigns IP addresses from numbers it keeps in a "pool". If you manually force your phone to use an IP (lets say 192.168.1.15) then leave the network (you go on some business trip) - and in the mean time, one of your kids adds some other device, or simply reconnects a device that hadn't been on the network for a while. After a certain period (the "lease" period of the IP), the router will put that IP BACK into the pool of available IPs. And since nearly all routers assign IPs bottom up (lowest to highest), if 15 is the next available number - you're toast. You come home, your phone tries to connect on 192.168.1.15 and gee- sorry - your son's PSP is on that IP.
For this to be a workable long-term solution, you'd have to enable static IPs within the router (a better way to do it anyway - that's how I have my network setup). You would simply go into the router, and tell it which IP to give to a device based on that device's MAC address.
Just figured I'd throw this out there because if an IP collision happens, the 2nd device in will simply get nothing - don't want someone tossing their phone out a window when it suddenly won't connect to a home network.
