My samsung galaxy II is constantly losing network but when I put my SIM into my old phone it works fine. I've tried everything I could find on here i.e roooting, upgrading to ICS but have had no luck.
I bought (well I paid out his contract) the phone from a friend who moved overseas and he was on a different network (Optus) and I'm on Vodafone but my SIM works (just not all the time! ) so I don't know if that has anything to do with it! Anyways I wont take it back to Optus because I wasn't their client to begin with and Vodafone wont help,
Any help is much appreciated as I'm really frustrated! Thanks for reading

Is your phone rooted? If yes try flashing a new modem.. NELP3 works fine..
If not it's most probably a network issue

Even I had a similar problem a while back, any SIM card, would loose signal completely only on the SII turns out it was a hardware issue, I had to give in my phone to the service center.
To flash a modem if you have heimdall installed, open up the command prompt/terminal in the directory where you have downloaded the modem and extracted the modem.bin file, and type in
heimdall flash --modem modem.bin
or you can use the GUI it has an option for modem, but the modems aren't universally good for everyone, they are region specific, in my country [India] I use the DDKL1 modem, you should look for some modem that's native to your region.
OK. What you need to do is read the Stickies & brush up on Android/SGS2 basics.
Secondly, if the phone is rooted & you have CWRecovery (boot into recovery by turning the phone off, then holding power/volume up/home buttons), you can easily flash modem packages.
I'm also using Voda AU, so I'll get you started. The famous DUKJ1 modem has worked well for many people using Voda in Australia. Unfortunately, XDA doesn't seem to want to allow me to attach files to forum posts at the moment, or I would have attached a copy of KJ1 to this post. Sooo....Here's a link where you can get it
Also, if you do a Google search along the lines of "XDA SGS2 modems" or similar (use your imagination), you should find plenty of posts from here which have links to modems you can flash if KJ1 doesn't work well for you. If that is the case (it doesn't work well for you), then it's a matter of flashing as many modems as you have to in order to find one that works well for you.
The issue could also be caused by the gear/spectrum Voda is using in your area (hence your sim works well in another phone). I guess you're only going to find that out if you contact Voda & ask for support (after you've tried every solution you can find on here I guess).
Now, if your phone isn't rooted, the Stickies have all the information you need in order to root it.
Edit - Also, questions go in Q&A ;-)
Thanks guys, MistahBungle will try the DUKJ1
Also would anyone have an idea as to how I can delete all the optus(old carrier) stuff off my phone?? Ta
You need to have a rooted phone to get rid of the bloatware. You can use an app like Titanium Backup Pro (Look for it on Google Play) to uninstall or freeze (which I recommend) apps you don't want. This thread is a good starting point for working out what you can/can't remove/freeze.
To our friend who added the tag to the thread, we know that Captain Obvious, thanks very much. However for someone new/who currently has little Android/SGS2 knowledge & already has a pre-rooted phone, avoiding Odin (and the inevitable problems many n00bs have with it) & using CWRecovery if it's already on the phone sounds like a sensible WTG to me.

Hi!
I flashed my phone a month ago and have ever since then desperately trying to find help. No luck so far.
I installed 2.3.4 because it wasnt realesed here in sweden. but then the phone became russian and i couldnt use 3g anymore. i went to samfirmware.com and tryed out like every firmware but nothing worked, i tried updating via kies but most of the time it would say that my phone does not support updating via kies, but once it worked and it update back to the russian 2.3.4 firmware, i dont know what to do! please help me.
Are you using a small regional type cell carrier? A friend of mine had a issue much like this before where they rooted their phone and installed CM7 which changed the radio(baseband) and they lost MMS and some other features because the small carrier was not supported. The only way we could get it back was by taking a nandroid backup of same model device from the same carrier that hadn't been touched other than root and restore that onto their phone and that resolved the issue. Not sure if this helps you or not.

Well it helped a luttle, but what do you mean with small carrier and such? i am not very good at english so i dont understand alot. is there a copy of a untouched ace???
What I mean by small carrier is that in the US we have Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile etc. but we also have small carriers like Bluegrass where I live at. With these small carriers if your radio gets updated from a ROM install then it is very hard to find a replacement radio to flash back onto the phone. If this is the case in your scenario then you will need to find someone on the same carrier with the same model phone that has not installed a customer ROM but has rooted their device to make a nandroid backup then restore that to your phone.

Here's my problem, I bought a Samsung Galaxy S2 I9100 from a friend like 4 months ago, which means I don't really know if it's a factory unlocked device or international unlocked device or unlocked using some kind of methods that I don't really know anything about them...
Anyway, I rooted it probably a month after buying it, and I installed two or three custom roms her and there. (I think I installed the X-TremE CM10 1.5 Pure, 1.6 Pure and others roms from other developpers...)
Finally I found the perfect custom rom that I used all the time until now, it was the SuperNexus rom from Faryaab.
Everything went fine until today, I decided to try a new rom, the Omega v16.2 from ::indie:: (I can't post the link sorry but it's very easy to find).
Factory/Data Wipe, Wiped the cache and the Dalvik Cache and installed from zip, everything went fine.
The problem here is that all this time I was using my default modem which I found with the phone, the XXLPX (not a quite loved and famous modem from what I've seen), but the rom I installed was "equiped" with the XXLSJ modem (I don't know if we can say so, i'm not really a professional), so my Baseband version actually changer to I9100XXLS6 (it was I9100XXLPX as said above) and know I have in my hands a SIM Locked device...
I tried the Galaxy S2 SIM Unlock application from Chainfire and the Galaxy_S Unlock from HELROZ and none of the two have worked.
I switched back to the SuperNexus rom, redownloaded the XXLPX modem and reflashed it through the CWM Recovery menu and my phone is still SIM Locked.
So my question here is, does the fact that the rom have changed my modem version locked my phone, or did I do something wrong when installing ?
And is there anyway I could reunlock my phone using any method (probably not, but I ask anyway, who knows) ?
Thanks in advance.
You tried those apps with busybox right? sometimes you need to install another busybox installer version to getting it unlocked.
Have you tried Galaxy S2 SIM Unlock?
if you have a tendency to switch ROMs too often, you might want an app that keep that locking nightmare away.
if all apps fail, look into what these guys did (do not replace the bin file posted there, it's a diffrent method):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=35934314#post35934314
Thanks alot for this ! it's gonna be really useful next time i'm gonna have a problem like that ! But I've already reunlocked it so I can't really try :c. I took it to some "specialist" guy that did it. I still don't know what's the method he used though...
As I've said I'm not a professional my self so it would be kind from you if you explain me two or three things.
First, what do you mean with busybox ? I'm not quite sure if the rom I was using (the Omega) while testing the two unlocking applications listed above was "equiped" with that.
Second thing, you didn't really answered my question which I'm gonna reformulate now:
Can I actually change the version of the Baseband of my phone ? If yes, do I lose the SIM Unlock ? And if I can change the Baseband version and lose the actual SIM Unlock, can I reunlock it and keep that version of the Baseband or do I need to get back to the old version by reflashing it, then reunlock it ?
And finally, the efs folder that I need to backup every time before flashing a new rom (I didn't knew that), what does he contain ? From what I've seen he contains the nv_data.bin file which I think contains the unlock, and that folder also contains some IMEI informations and other stuff. If I actually back it up before installing a new rom, and if that rom changes the baseband version which will probably lock my phone, is it safe to put back that backed up efs folder while keeping the same rom and the same baseband version that came with it ? Does it reunlock the phone ? And do I just put it back using a root explorer and just overwrite it the existing ones ?
Yeah I know, too many questions a man can handle, but I really need to be informed of all those things so I can be aware of what I'm doing.
And thanks in advance for your patience.
Best regards.

okay, here we go,
1) There are a lot o people that become some sort of experts on devices thanks to this forums. It takes houndreds - if not thousends - of hours reading posts and executing some things you learn here.
2) busybox is an app. It's Linux based and to tell you the truth, not too many people know exactely what it does, It's very difficult to pinpoint every single thing that this "busy" app performs; Just think of it like a an app that does a lot of things for other app(s) to perform better or to perform at all. You can download it directly from Playstore; bare in mind that sometimes the unlocking app will work with different versions of busybox, so you'll have to try and see. I'm now using "Busybox Free 8.9.7" & "Busybox Installer 4.1"
3) You can always change your MODEM, Baseband it's some sort of radio version that cell phones use to get service, some basbands work on many countries, regions, some don't, still...you always can "odin it" and change the modem (Always read about flashing modem with odin before you do anything).
4) Some ROMs will re-Networkl-lock your device, hell, happened to me every time I went up from Gingerbread - Ice Cream Sandwich - Jelly Bean Leak. The only thing you have to do is get the right tools so you can always unlock it without the drama.
These unlocking apps let you LOCK & UNCLOCK as pleased.
5) the EFS folder indeed contents your network information, IMEI and stuff, it's always good to back it up as it is an important folder for your device to function. I use HC-kTool to back it up whenever i need to.
There is an unlocking method that makes you modify the .bin file. Never done it before but some guys here do it all the time and actually works.
Some other member could enlighten you in this matter; makes sense that flashing a new modem would lock your phone but i wouldn's know. Still, as I've got all these wonderfull apps to unlock....I really don't give a damn
Open for corrections, I've just used common sense.

Thanks alot for those "enligthments".
I don't know which method the guy I brough my phone to used to unlock it, but I reflashed the Omega custom rom yesterday and it actually didn't relock my phone ! But from now on I'm gonna be alot more cautious when flashing a new custom rom. Recovery backup from the CWM recovery mode, efs backup and maybe some Titanium backup too, even though I prefere having a clean "new phone" and install the apps by myself rather than referring to a backup. Yeah I know it's stupid but I like it that way.
Anyway, thanks again for your help and your patience, much appreciated c: .
Cheers.

btw, you might wanna add mobile odin yo that list. Hell of an app.

I have used chainfires superuser and cwm programs to root my s3. I was looking for a jellybean upgrade and found this one:
youtube.com/watch?v=_PSt8b5D2dM
Like a dumbass i didnt look if there was one here, and I ran this one.
My phone is (was) a carrier unlocked GT-I9300. After running this ROM, the phone boots and everything works except the actual phone functions. WI-FI, internet... everything.
Any ideas how to un-sim lock or un-carrier lock my phone that this ROM caused?
Bump... No ideas at all???
it's not a sim lock, you probably messed up your imei. check if it matches the one under the battery
once the phone is unlocked, it is unlocked forever. no roms re-lock the phone! what do you mean your actual phone functions do not work? what are you f/w details? more info needed.

OK... details... had root access to phone using chainfires programs, which i bought. Was looking for Android Upgrade. I found one on YouTube that had good reviews, after all that's where I found chainfire's root process.
Installed ROM from download link to YouTube video above. Would not recognize a SIM card after that. My carrier does not lock their phones. Everything else on the phone works... wifi, internet, all the functions except phone and text. Took it to my carrier. They wiped it and put their version of Android on it but it would still not recognize the SIM. The tech told me the ROM I installed had SIM locked the phone.
I found the IMEI under the battery... but not on the actual phone software itself.
Thanks for the replies.

Sorry. Now there are details.
Have read lots of posts on here... nothing exactly the same on the s3. Lots with restoring the imei, but my numbers match.
All i can find is people saying to send it back to Samsung and maybe they will fix it.
Any direction is appreciated.
I verified with my carrier that their gt-i9300 comes SIM unlocked. When I put my SIM card in the phone, it asks for the SIM network unlock pin. I have tried everything my carrier gave me. hey said I would need to know which carrier the custom rom was from in order to be able to unlock it.
The video on youtube where I got the ROM was from "theAngelofMusic" who is also in some XDA videos, or at least linked to some of them. I have asked her through the comments there several times but she ignores me.
I have searched the SD card for the efs fiels to no avail. I have read numerous more posts here but can find none with the same specific phone and issue.
Ideas???
try a different sim card
Carriers don't supply custom roms .
Your source for the rom was a bad source in my view .
All i can suggest is try the Kies restore to original firmware .
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1978840
One presumes that you have read the identical posts and tried as Glenbun ssays another sim / network.
But the whole thread does not make real sense
Carrier unlocked then a rom locked it .>> suggests firmware was possibly for another phone or damaged .
Service put their version of Android on it very very odd Android as opposed to Samsung firmware .
Have you restored your backed up EFS folder ??

Let me start over. Phone is a GT-I9300. Our carrier is West Central Wireless, which is a small local carrier. The phones do not come from WCW with any type of lock, meaning I can take them wherever and use any SIM card. Not trying to be difficult.
The phone was rooted using this process: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1957273 Then I ran a custom ROM from this link: http://www.hotfile.com/dl/173577508/3316be3/I9300XXDLIB_I9300OXFDLI1_XEO.zip.html which was linked to android authority from YouTube, which is also where i found the chainfire root info. This is the YouTube link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_PSt8b5D2dM
Once i flashed this ROM, I could not get the phone to recognize my SIM card. I tried to restore it to the original and still nothing. I took it to a tech at WCW. They put the current version of Android on it but it will still not recognize a SIM. I have tried one of theirs, my wife's, and the one from the phone. They all ask for a SIM unlock PIN. I got the two that WCW said might work and neither work. They suggested the ROM i loaded from YouTube was carrier specific. After getting it back from WCW i cannot find the efs files.
Everything on the phone works, less the call and text. Internet is fine as long as I use WIFI. Same with email, google play, etc...
I tried a couple of different unlock codes from the internet. None worked and thankfully all refunded the fee as they said they would.
I am trying to figure out if it is possible to restore this phone to actually being a phone. Hope this helps.
I've searched these forums for hours yesterday trying to find someone who has had a similar problem-maybe I am alone in this. Anyway, here goes:
I recently got my phone back from a repair shop-I suffered SDS. On return, the phone was running I9300XXEMA5 at the type-a Turkish variant. It seemed to be rooted-it had an SU program on there. Foolishly, I decided to move up to a BTU firmware that had XXEMG4. So, I moved to that stock firmware. While my IMEI and SN remain the same, I can only make emergency calls. I read about the changes that were brought about by XXEMG4 in terms of EFS. I neglected to make a backup beforehand, so I have since then been rolling forward-the last one I tried was a Chilean firmware with MH2. Doing this has brought about a slight improvement-my phone number was not registering before, but now it is. I still cannot make or receive calls though.
I am going to try a German Vodafone stock firmware with modem MJ1. I hope it works. Also, another thing: maybe it might be the SIM? I was using a full sized SIM from AT&T (my carrier) in my old phone when it was deactivated by the carrier when I went in to get a new micro SIM to put back in my S3. Could that cause a problem? I'm going to get another one from them today and see if that is the problem.
In the meantime, do any of you have any suggestions? The zuluman patch I hear does not work on firmware past July.
EDIT: I have read the sticky posted here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2393289, but I don't see any info about "no network" that pertains to my case.
Hello.I had the same problem like yours and i try this custom rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1663656 (the android 4.1.2 version )
Try this, you don't have nothong to lose.I hope this will help you too.
Edit.flash this in recovery and this should help you
http://www52.zippyshare.com/v/14169396/file.html
Ariza patch doesn't work past July. Zuluman is a rework that does but these are only for serial number 0000 problems
Can't really say a lot else on this. You say there's nothing about "no network" in the sticky but actually its all about "no network".
Lots of words in post 1 here but no details do can't really help

UPDATE: Bumping up to the German Vodaphone with MJ1 didn't improve the situation. Also, the SIM works fine in another phone, so I don't think the SIM is suspect. I never had to unlock this phone (why would I need to do so? Moreover, it worked fine before SDS when I swapped between my regular AT&T and an international SIM I use for travelling)-maybe I need to do that now?
In the meantime, I am going to give L0St19's modem patch a go. If that does not work, I will try a custom ROM.

Ariza patch doesn't work past July. Zuluman is a rework that does but these are only for serial number 0000 problems
Can't really say a lot else on this. You say there's nothing about "no network" in the sticky but actually its all about "no network".
Lots of words in post 1 here but no details do can't really help

AFAIK there is a modded XXEMG4 modem somewhere that in fact fixes network problem if you can't connect to it even with proper IMEI and efs v1/v2.
My friend had such problem and I couldn't get what may caused that, efs is fine, IMEI is fine and no network at all. I just made a research and we're talking about same thing - patch from zuluman. Trust me @rootSU, it works even in such weird situations, not only 0000 problem.
However don't ask me why because even I have no idea. However if you run out of options with this problem try it -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=46585257&postcount=779
Firstly read carefully whole thread

Hello JustArchi! I will take a look at that too. Thanks!
In the meantime, I have another update: I dropped back down to where it all started: a BTU I9300XXEMG4. After flashing, then doing a factory reset, it looks like things have improved again. However, this improvement is questionable: I consistently get a "Selected Network (AT&T) not available" message appearing. I thought it might be the SIM again, so I went to swap SIMs at the telco. No change-same result.
I'm beginning to think that the modem is not compatible for my part of the world (North America-US). I can't go back because I am no efs2 and I did not back up my efs1. My question now is: are there any modems past (or including) MG4 that will work here in the US?
Ok, JustArchi, I tried the patch, but when I applied it to modem.bin, and tried to flash with Odin, it fails. Going to try and fix that and try again.
Download my flashable .zip -> https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/23869279/Temp/xxemg4.zip
Delete modem.bin from that, put your patched one. Now repack everything through 7-zip -> zip, deflate fastest compression. Now flash this .zip through (cwm) recovery, it will pass.
Maybe Odin doesn't like modified modems.
Ok, got it! I flashed this one. The flash was successful, but the problem remains. Thank you for your help though.
Modem.bin is fine with Odin, but there may have been something in the patch that it didn't like. I don't understand it-only two bytes changed.
Moreover, I've noticed that with this modem patch, the phone number becomes "Unknown". This seems to be a step down unfortunately.
Just flash my original xxemg4 then. Unfortunately I won't be able to help you further because honestly I don't know what may cause such issue.
Good luck tho.

Thank you for your help. I'm going to talk to mobiletechvideos.com about this. If I can't get help through them, this phone is going on eBay for spare parts. It's beginning to look like a lovely brick-it's a shame I'm not in the construction business.
The phone number always appear as unknown!!

That is normal
Ok, I see. After swapping the SIM in and out, the phone number actually comes back. Does anyone know exactly when the new format appeared? If it is F6, I am thinking about going back to that-see if that changes anything.
XXEMG4+ EFS V2. Pre-XXEMG4 EFS V1.
Ah ok. So G4 is where it started.
Now, here's another question-is it possible this modem does not work at all in my part of the world? (North America-USA).
Possible? Yes.
There are EFS v2 modems in general > sticky roll-up thread > imei /efs
There's an aroma package containing mg2, mg4 and mh1

I'll take a look at that sticky. I asked because someone had asked in a similar thread if that modem would work in the OP's country. I took this from a BTU (British Telecom), so I think it might not work. It's strange: before the SDS, I had a British firmware and ran it with no problem. Mind, I loaded this firmware almost a year ago to the month. A lot must have changed since-and for the worst apparently.
Hi:
Newbie here, so please bear with me. I am fairly techie, but never really worked on phones (I'm a Windows / Network engineer by trade).
I had an S6 Edge on the Vodafone network, and live in an area with poor cell coverage. So, I fully took advantage of wifi calling. I've upgraded to the S8 (gorgeous phone, BTW) so I gave the device to my missus, who made the mistake of buying an EE iPhone, and hates it.
We unlocked the phone to the EE network, but the wifi calling option has vanished, and I've been told that this is by design, as only phone purchased directly from EE have wifi calling enabled.
Been looking around, and have seen that if we root the phone and flash it with an EE image, then things should be hunky dory. However, having never undertaken a project like this on a phone, I'm seeking some guidance, as I don't want to completely brick the device.
Are there any idiot-proof step-by-step guides on here to do this?
Cheers in Advance

It's actually a lot simpler than you think. No need to root all you have to do is flash the EE firmware through Odin (Samsung flashing tool) and voila, EE Wi-Fi calling will appear. Also volte will be available too.
If you need step by step I can help.
I need model number and android version and I can link you the firmware.

Hey dude.... after trolling through this forum some more, I was able to find what I needed to flash the firmware onto the device... However, Wi-Fi calling (as an option) does not seem to appear yet, but I wonder if that is due to the lack of SIM card (wife put it back in her iPhone, so I could sort this at work.
If I've downloaded the wrong stuff, then I'm happy to redo.
Model Number: SM-G925F
Android Version: 7.0
Baseband Version: G925FXXU5EQF1

When you downloaded the firmware was there 5 files in the zip? Or just the one AP file?
Did you look in phone app > settings then scroll to bottom for Wi-Fi calling option? If you flashed an EE firmware it should be there mate.
As well as the EE firmware you need to have the EE csc. You have this csc, EVR?

Hi... There was only the one file (the AP file, I believe)_ and no, when I checked the phone settings, wifi calling was not showing as an option. If you have a link to the correct firmware, I'm happy to reflash the phone, as I have everything here with me at work.

Flash this version from here
http://updato.com/firmware-archive-select-model?record=75717719616711E7963AFA163EE8F90B
The version you flashed previous was PRT Poland version.
Flash the one I posted it is UK EVR and then you will have Wi-Fi calling.

If by chance you encounter hidden.img fail in Odin don't panic.
Just unpack the firmware and remove the hidden.img. repack and flash again.

Heya.... no such "issues" so to speak. Just one where my baby kicked the USB cable, causing a brief disconnect during the flashing process. This, of course, sent me into a spiral of panic because the entire phone crashed, with errors, recovery messages invoking Smart Switch, and the like. However, restarting the phone and connecting it to Odin completely recovered the phone.
Initially, the flashing worked, but it didn't enabled Wi-Fi calling, so I reset the phone back to factory settings, flashed it again and voila!!!! Worked like a charm! Then restored the backup from Smart Switch that I made yesterday, and the missus now has a full functional EE phone with Wi-Fi calling.
Thanks very much for your help mate.... you're a legend.
I'm gonna keep Odin, as it seems like a great recovery tool as well. :good:
