i am not able to use it
is there any app for samsung like lg does: the "lg tag"

Is there a way to get the Samsung TecTile App if one is not from US?
The store shows the app, but as a German user (or a non US Galaxy S3 owner) the appstore says it's not compatible with my mobile.
Actually I ordered some TecTiles from the US but now it seems I won't be able to use them - at least not with the Samsung App.

NFC and phone covers
How well does NFC work if you have any sort of Phone cover on? I was thinking about getting a Ringke Slim Lite for my pre-ordered Verizon Galaxy S3, but not sure if covers will cause any problems with NFC.
I would appreciate it if those already using NFC tags with their Galaxy S3 could chime in.

I know what a NFC tag is, but what could I use it for?

If been using nfc tags off eBay work fine go tag in case to turn on Bluetooth and can mode an jab one for home to turn off same and turn.on. Wi-Fi
They are superb
Samsung's tag program works with most

They can be used to exchange business cards, switch profiles (if you have CyanogenMod9 ROM, which supports profiles), or just toggle various phone settings on/off, launch applications or make payments using Google wallet.
Search for "pocketnow nfc android" on YouTube. They have a 2 part video demonstrating some cool stuff you can do with NFC & your Android.

Thanks

Any news on the progress of ISIS and enabling NFC?

Just wondering if anyone heard was the latest progress on ISIS. It looks like that is what is keeping AT&T from activating the NFC chip on our SGS2.
We've managed to enable NFC on Gingerbread, but not for mobile payments.
As a result it's mostly a toy.
I hope either Google Wallet or ISIS kicks off soon for the GS2.
If iPhone had NFC you know this would have been mainstream by now.
something tells me att won't credit all new accounts with a 10.
My friend has a Nexus and we were able to successfully do a "Beam" transfer of a web page he was watching. I'm using Gingerbread so I had to use an NFC app to receive as raw data but it worked nontheless.
I assume when ICS comes out for GS2 we could take advantage of the NFC to use the Beam feature and transfer our contact information or web pages to other users.

Thanks to your hard work I can use NFC Launcher with NFC tags to enable all kinds of neat stuff. When I dock my phone in my car, at the office or on my bike, the appropriate apps, wireless connections, audio and display properties are automatically configured. Undocking will revert those profiles back to a neutral state.
FWIW the PayPal Mobile app has some NFC-enabled mobile payment functionality built into it. I don't use PayPal so I can't speak to how well it works on the i777.

[Q] Galaxy S3's "S Beam" same as android beam?

The Android Beam function on the S3 is called "S Beam". Samsung says the S Beam can send photo's sized 10mb within 2 seconds. The Android Beam however can only send links because of the slow transfer rate. So now I was wondering wether this is a software or a hardware upgrade, anyone got some idea's?
The S Beam uses Wi-Fi Direct to transfer the files, NFC is just for pairing.
That explains a lot, thanks
Is there already a ROM that also includes this?
The question now is still the same, though.
The Galaxy Nexus supports Wifi direct, will it be able to pair up with a SGSIII the same way? Not too long 'till the 29th of May..
I just got a s3 and my wife has a nexus s. I know s-beam only works between 2 s3s but I was hoping plain android beam would work between the s3 and nexus s since both of them have NFC and android beam support. I have all the required settings turned on but no luck. I can't share a link or YouTube video or contact. What's the point of the open nature of android if 2 phones with the same OS can't use the same damn technology? Sorry ... has anyone made android beam work between s3 and any other phone.

It would be a shame if Samsung nerfed A-Beam with S-Beam. If OEMs are going to add features and skins - fine I guess although I wish they would give them back to Google as AOSP. If they are going to destroy features of the stock OS, this hurts the ecosystem as a whole and I'd like to see Google play hard-ball and not certify those devices for having the market or any Google apps.

I agree that would be a good start but would go against the "open source" ecosystem that Google has created.

Open up your gallery and select a picture after turning on your a-beam then try tapping backs.
If that doesn't work, check if turning s-beam off allows it to, maybe s-bean takes over the event.

Turn on nfc and Android beam and touch the backs of the phones together.
doesn't android beam use nfc to pair phones just like s beam does?
s beam uses wifi direct, and I thought android beam uses bluetooth to transfer files?
am i wrong? it's pretty stupid that i'm limited to other galaxies for this feature to send a picture...
I agree with all of these statements. Android Beam should be able to open a Wi-Fi direct connection. Samsung's S-Beam is a gimmick unless everyone has a damn GSIII. i have a Gnex and my Girlfriend has a GSIII. This makes her badass GSIII S-Beam feature useless as we can only tap our phones to share links and contacts. unless we are sitting on each others lap; Texting her a link is quicker and more practical than tapping our phones together, me touching my screen to 'beam' a damn link to a youtube video to her. I was pretty stoked when she got the phone thinking that we would be able to share pics and video's via NFC and WiFi direct. For some reason I just assumed that this would work seeing how both phones have NFC and WiFi Direct.
This is atrocious! When I try to send a picture to my friend's GNexus with my android beam and nfc on but s beam off, my phone asks me to turn s-beam on. WHY? I am trying to use android beam!!!
I have a galaxy nexus on tmobile (yakju variant) my friend has a galaxy nexus on Sprint network. I open the gallery app on my phone, and go to a picture (its a 1.02MB photo) i tap my phone to the Sprint Galaxy Nexus, and touch to beam, and android beam can transfer this file over, easily, no other actions necessary.
I tap the same picture to somebody using an galaxy s2 or galaxy s3, and the android beam cannot send the picture, instead I receive a message saying "the receiving device cannot support large file transfers" ??? what ??? i dont understand??
so android beam supports large file transfers when its android beam nexus to nexus? but not when its nexus to Galaxy S2 or Galaxy S3 ?
does anyone have any insight on this?
If you want to transfer images to a non-sbeam device, make sure you have enabled android beam in you settings and DISABLED sbeam. If you do not disable sbeam, for example transferring a photo will give you google play on the target device, because it tries to find the samsung gallery. Disabling sbeam will pair the devices and send the data over bluetooth.

[Q] NFC; let's make it clear!

Hi,
I just got this new SIII. Amazing phone. Just a pity that the back cover scratches so easily. But let's go back to my question. I started playing with NFC and it can easily read my NFC cards but it can't write. Someone can confirm this? Is there a way to write on the NFC cards?
Thanks

Sent from my GT-I9300 using XDA
Yeah you'll need to make sure that your tags have the factory Access codes on the secoter you are using (Mifare) (FF's) to be able to write. Most new tags come this way. NFC and NDEF require that they be FF or 00's, as NEDF has no inherent security built into it.
You can make the tag read only by changing these access codes.
NXP (Oweners of Mifare Tags design) have two app on the market, NXP writer can read and write NDEF, very good App. It also tells you details of the Tag Specification.
Just ordered my Blue SGS3 Can't wait...now to sell my SGS 1.

So will these rfid tags work with the s3?
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/5PCS-Pro...?pt=AU_Security_Equipment&hash=item2eb8030ce4
No, they are 125 Khz, you need 13.56 Mhz.
Go for Mifare Classic, Unltralight. NTAG203 is the newest from XP and is apparently the best for NFC, but who knows..
Have a look at this page:

[Q] Near Field Communications Chip

This is the first phone that I and probably a lot of people have owned with the NFC chip. I have been digging around on the phone and reading about it on the internet but I still have some unanswered questions. I know it takes two chips to tango so there may not be much information or many users with experience with the technology out there, but any info would be appreciated.
1. What native capabilities/apps does the DNA have to utilize this chip? - Found the setting for it under settings>more
2. What apps on the Google Play store are good to use for this?
3. Any tips/tricks/interesting uses people have found for it?
4. Any other pertinent information.

I will, sounds like something fun to do in my free time.
Where is a good place or who is a good manufacturer for these tags?
Edit: Found a link on how to program your tags: http://howto.cnet.com/8301-11310_39-57370478-285/how-to-program-an-nfc-tag-with-your-android-device/
There are a lot of useful/cool things you can do with NFC Tags. Most revolve around automation.
On my website, I keep a list of the NFC Apps that I find work the best and are most useful (there are a ton of nfc apps on google play, but many of them are useless or just not built well). Here's the link to that list: http://www.andytags.com/nfc-apps.html
On other pages, I have list of ideas of things you can do as well as some videos demoing some of the apps/uses. If you use Tasker, then the possibilities are endless since Tasker can do almost anything. But even without tasker many of the apps will do the things you'd want to do most.

Tasker looks amazing.. has anyone tried it on their DNA? Some people were mentioning compability issues so I just wanted to see if anyone here had any experience with it.

I finally bought some Mifare 4k NFC tags and tried some stuff with NFC Task launcher from the app store. I programmed one to open Pandora that I can scan when I get in my truck and another to toggle airplane mode for my building at work. I haven't gotten a lot of use it of them though because they are a little problematic to scan. Sometimes it takes several seconds. I can just unlock my phone and start an app in that amount of time. Not sure if it's the tags, the chip in the phone, or both.

I've used NFC Interactor to write tags, I think it's a dollar or two. Just so you know apparently there is a windows phone limitation where it can't format tags. In my case I had to use a friends android tablet for that. I don't think there is a way to toggle wifi/bluetooth at the moment and it might not be possible with the SDK. But you can definitely start apps or phone settings if you find the GUID for it.
