I've had a mini pro for a while and I am very happy with it - but I do have one slight niggle with the WiFi..
When its connected to my home router it works great - until the screen times out and the powersaving comes on. At this point when the phone is used again the WiFi icon shows as connected but its not connected to the network and can only be convinced to work again and it needs the wifi resetting by switching it off and on again...
The firmware is the A012 but this wasnt a problem at first so I am wondering if it was something to do with an update or a piece of software...
If anyone has any suggestions..?
fortunatly that one is easy to solve.
- Go to wifi definitions;
- press menu button (is the one with four squares).
- Select advanced;
Then you will have something like "wifi suspension policy", you just have to alter that to always connect or something. My phone is in portuguese so I cannot say exactly what it will appear in English but I think you can get the idea.

Already found that and changed it and it still didnt make any difference unfortunately. not sure what else I can do.
I had the same problem. What is your wifi encryption type?
I was on WPA-PSK and I saw on a Japanese forum that if you change to WPA2-PSK it would fix the problem which it did! Let us know if this helps you.
hi, i think this will fix permanently until the phone updated to 2.1 but there is a solution before that which i have experience and come up with 2 solution:
firstly install wifi fixer, its free on the marked.
setup to never off mode on settings.
1. if the phone connected charged, the wifi always on even the dispaly off
but i don't recomend to do this with the batt fully charge, because it could make batt live shorten(overcharge), i think.
2. this is abit tricky but it works .. it make the wifi always on without connected charge by:
- install program called gmote than run it, if possible setup to connect to the server, but dont have to.
- and the tricky is, before the phone display off or you are not playing with phone, run the gmote and make sure the gmote program run in the DISPLAY PHONE (mine in gmote browse mode) and leave it like that, than you can leave the phone.
i used this all the time and it works, even i leave the phone for long hours and than check it ... wow the wifi still connected and i tried browsing internet.. amazing ... it works but i see it drain the batt faster .. lol
hope this solution can help anyone
Being fed up with the random wakelocks that Dialer produced on my Gingerbread P500, I spent a while searching for the cause. It turned out to be DataTracker-FD (found out using the amazing BetterBatteryStats app - http://www.cri.ch/sven/doku.php/computing/android/betterbatterystats ), which deals with Fast Dormancy (http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/9191759/Fast_dormancy_to_improve_smartphone_networking_and_battery_performance_ ).
Now, in theory, Fast Dormancy should be a great feature! But, if your network does not support it, DataTracker-FD will still drain a lot of battery through the wakelock. The SGSII secret code for deactivating it doesn't work on the P500, and neither does the nwk_info.db method. Luckily, you can deactivate (or change its timeout) through the LG hidden menu...
1. Dial 3845#*500#.
2. Go to Modem Setting > PDP Setting > [0] Set Fast Dormancy
3. Select your desired timeout (or "Disabled"). You should now be done! (will look at Battery Usage in a little bit, to see if a reboot/Dialer FC is also needed)
Optional step 4. If you still see no difference, set your desired timeout (or "Disabled") a few more times.
Hope it helps.
/* Edit: It doesn't seem to help, we might be back to square one. Does anyone have any idea on how to completely disable Fast Dormancy? We might need a dev to look at the source code of Dialer and make some modifications... Right now, if your phone stays awake after using Data, the only current workaround is FCing Dialer from Applications. */
EDIT 2: A SECOND TEST, USING THE ABOVE METHOD TO DISABLE FAST DORMANCY, YIELDS POSITIVE RESULTS! THE WAKELOCK IS NOT THERE ANYMORE, EVEN AFTER SEVERAL RECONNECTIONS TO HSDPA!
It needs way more testing though, I will reconnect to data and leave the phone idle (screen off), then see what happens, and I will reboot the phone to see if the setting persists.
EDIT 3: Yes, the setting persists, and the wakelock is still not running! The final test will be done after it has completely charged, because there still is a small possibility that the wakelock is so far not active just because the phone was charging.
Edit 4: Straight after unplugging the phone, DataTracker-FD started running, without being connected to HSDPA (I was in a phonecall). In 17 minutes (of mostly talking on the phone) it drained 1% of the battery - so, it should last for about 29 hours with the same usage. Now I have started HSDPA and left the phone idle for 10 minutes, to see how much it drains and how much it drains after I turn data off. It just might be that, while the phone is still awake, it doesn't drain a large amount of battery. If it actually still drains a lot, this tweak definitely only /seems/ to work while charging (maybe BetterBatteryStats was reporting false data or FD just doesnt' work when charging).
Edit 5: Here's a pleasant surprise. Right after connecting to HSDPA and putting the phone to sleep, the Awake bar in Battery Usage faded out. In 5 minutes of idling with data activated, the phone drained another 1% battery - not sure how well that is, since it amounts to 8 hours of data on a full charge, but it's better than 12 hours of idling with no data on a full charge. Currently repeating the test. Just got an email on Yahoo pushed, I'll get to see the influence on awake time of that as well.
Edit 6: After 10 minutes of idling with data ON, a bit over 1% of the battery is gone. This is a fantastic value, and the Awake bar is only dotted in this period of time. DataTracker-FD seems to be running a bit in the background during the data connection, but stopped once I turned it off. It might just be me, though, because aLogCat still can't find any entries for Fast Dormancy. Now leaving the phone idle with no data for a while to look at the evolution of Awake time.
Edit 7: After about 45 minutes of complete idling, the battery went down 2%. This would mean the battery would last for about a day and a half, which is meh, considering I OC'd the phone to 730 and don't really use a task manager.
The conclusion: YES, disabling Fast Dormancy does work using the above method, and it does help battery life!
Edit 8: After another unrelated reboot, DataTracker-FD is once again awake after using data, but this time it draws significantly less battery. The Battery Usage graph shows no difference between sleep times and awake-because-of-FD times.
Edit 9: During the night, the phone drained 30% battery, once again because of some random action of DataTracker-FD. This is still not a definite fix.
"Connection problem or invalid MMI code" when I dial that number..
I remember that long ago I dialed the number and everything was fine.
Well you shouldn't literally call it, just type it in Dialer and it should open the hidden menu.

When I just type it in dialer, nothing happens.
I see. It might not work on CM.
Updated the OP a couple of times, you might want to read it.
Considering I am still on Froyo v2.2.2, could this be of interest for me too? There's no abnormal battery drain on my phone, but if I can improve the battery life by tweaking this setting, I'd gladly do it.

I didn't have such problems on Froyo either. It MIGHT help, but as you can see from the numerous edits to the OP, it's not a clear win yet.
So it need to be disabled twice to stop working?
I've been looking for this service since using that Battery App but theres not much information of that in the web.
I'm not sure just how many times, but it took about 3-4 times for me until I was completely sure the wakelock stopped running and the phone went into deep sleep each time I locked it.
Yeah I think I got it doing it twice, FC phone and rebooting, btw maybe you can check system/etc/flex/flex.db and flex.xml there are fast dormancy settings there
@metalboy94 I mailed LG regarding Fast Dormancy and the reply i got was that P500 does not support fast dormancy. My phone does not switch from H to 3G. I tried enabling it many times using secret menu but it does not work.
I asked him if GB ROM/Baseband supports fast dormancy, he replied saying GB hasn't been released for India

There are? Thanks a bunch, gonna try those methods as well!
@atulalvenkar: Well, it still draws power from the battery, so at least they could have done something to the Dialer if it's not supported at all.
Edited the OP once again.
Are you guys checking on GB or Froyo ROM ? I can't see flex.db or flex.xml in froyo ? Stock or CM7

Stock GB. I found it, but you have to fill in the info for your operator if it's not on that list. Guess which is my situation.

Yeah my operator isn´t there also (I´m on a custom V20g ROM and I´m not from Romania) but i got the flex files from the Froyo stock so im going to try using that information to replace one of the V20g operators.
Also tried putting the Froyo ones on GB but get a lot of FC
Updated the OP again...
I tried to change the FD settings in the hidden menu, but the setting does not "stick", so I don't know if it's actually OFF or not.
However, I found that DataTracker-FD only keeps the phone awake when Wifi is on. If I'm always on 3G, FD seems to work and keep the phone asleep. Overnight with wifi off and 3G on, it only drained 2% battery.
I'm on official GB2.3.3 with PaoloM's kernel v5.
Strange.
hey maybe let´s try this:
Code:
ro.ril.disable.fd.plmn.prefix=23402,23410,23411,
have to put that on the build.prop then restart, the values must be changed to your carriers code, you can get that code from adb typing
Code:
adb shell
getprop gsm.operator.numeric
Then the system should show the number

But did you see how many MBs the phone used? Cause if it's too much, people will definitely prefer just turning the phone off.
@Roqu3: I think I tried that before and it didn't seem to make a difference.
Worth a shot tho.
I'll try both of your methods if I still have the issue when I get my phone back from the service center.
Sent from a crappy rebranded Huawei using my hands
I don't know if it's a bug or not, but when I turn off the display on my phone, it will automatically turn back on after a few seconds. I have no messages or alerts or any setting that I know of that does this, I just can't find a way to make it stop doing this.
Any ideas?
hardware problems would likely be the cause. my girls phone just did that a after a week went compltely blank. SE service center was the last option.
aww really? I did buy my Xperia X10 Mini Pro as a 2nd hand phone and it did have a few dents here and there so obviously it's been dropped on the ground.......but I was hoping it might've been a bug from the rom?
if its a u20i then could be flex which is costly. if its e10i then probably misaligned hardware which is cheap compared to replacing the flex.
it was around 15 NZD for fixing the misalinged hardware (double if it flex problem) but who knows could be a bug of the rom. try reflashing it and do factory wipe

Ya I have a u20i. What's a flex?
I did notice that there's this orange film thing under the USB port, it seemed slightly loose....
the flex is really hard to describe it. try to reflash it first. in that does not work then off you go to SE service center.
After a reflash, it seems to be working fine.
I think it only happens when I plug in the charger, even after unplugging it it would do that 'sometimes'.
BTW could u tell me what that orange ribbon under the USB port is?
sorry i i dont have any clue.
I think I found out what's causing this. I'm pretty sure it's not a hardware problem because the problem always goes away after reflashing it.
However, after I setup my programs and settings, this problem starts to happen. I think it's because I enabled the "automatic brightness" setting. While it's enabled, the screen will turn on every few seconds at regular intervals. But if I disable it, the problem is gone.
So ya, i think it's a bug.
UPDATE:
Ok, the problem is still there. But at least it doesn't happen as much now. I really haven't changed any settings or installed any programs that could've caused this, as far as I know. I've used the same settings and programs on my other Android devices and never had this problem.
It seems others have had the same problem too:

I've tried every suggestion, set wifi sleep policy to never, wifi is turned off (i can't even get it to work properly anyway, as mentioned in another topic I posted). I don't have WeatherBug installed, and since my wifi isn't stable and always drops connection, there's no point for me to sync my data so I unticked that option as well.
UPDATE 2:
Ok I've just noticed that everytime this problem occurs, the screen will turn on 3 times, and then stop doing it for a while, and repeat.
I'm guessing it's doing this because I have unread messages and it keeps showing that under the notification? I use GOSMS PRO and used Titanium Backup to freeze the stock Messaging app, so now I unfreezed it and marked all messages as read, as well as disable the notification in the Messaging settings. I hope this does the trick.....
Sorry for such a long post, but can someone tell me what exactly does this do:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20759383&postcount=2
like, what happens if you change it to a large value compared to a small value? I'm thinking maybe it could be this, as you can also change the settings for the display as well. BTW, this setting wasn't enabled by default, so I dunno if that's the cause or not......

I also had the same issue but was able to get it to stop by doing the following.
- Turn off automatic brightness
- Under advanced settings for wifi, click "Keep wifi on during sleep" and select "never".
Hope this helps some of you.
Also, im running CM9 nightly from 3-5-12

It turns out it was a hardware problem on my fone. I got a new one and haven't had any problems since. Try upgrading to newer CM7 versions, or try out CM9. If not, then go back to stock, coz I've never had any problems on stock even when I was still using my faulty xperia pro.

How do I get back to stock?
i have the same problem after installing 2.2.1. i don't know if they are connecting but for me in this version it doesn't work wifi policy ''never''. every time my phone is idle wifi turns off.
I had the same problem with 2.1.9, then i upgraded to 2.2.1 but the problem was still there, so i analyzed the problem and got the obvious solution, i uninstalled the ram booster app i had and problem solved!! So if you have any ram booster, or task manager or killer or something like that try uninstalling it or changing the settings in that app, i hope to be helpful
i don't have something like that but after a long time i use data and not wifi for internet. i thing that this is the problem
Since a few days I have a very interesting problem. I have my SGS3 for a few weeks now and I was very impressed with its battery life. Until a few days ago.
Then I installed PhotoEditor (from Samsung itself, using Samsung Apps). When opening Samsung Apps it installed an update. This also included the Push Service and some adservice. After that my battery drained really fast. After uninstalling all three apps (PhotoEditor, Push Service and Adservice) this high battery drain went on.
I then performed a hard reset. And even then, without even installing any apps it drains the battery too fast.
However, it only happens when I'm connected to a wifi network. 3G is always off. When wifi just stays on, but is not connected to a network, battery life is very good and nothing strange happens.
When wifi is connected, and when looking in the battery settings menu I can see a very high Keep Awake time in Android OS. However, it doesn't show which process actually is causing this high Keep Awake time. So I installed BBS, but this doesn't really give me a clue either.
Anybody having an idea what could be causing this battery drain? Even after a hard reset?
I'm not rooted, just using the stock firmware. All help is really appreciated!
Edit: I'll post some relevant screenshots soon.

Try flashing the latest firmware via Odin..and see what you install next time..also you can try changing WIFI sleep policy from the advanced options in WIFI..
I have the exact same problem!! Very frustrating. It started when I did and ota update so I decided to flash a custom rom. I have since then done numerous hard resets and re flashes to try to fix it. No luck.
I am now on omega v11.1 with the stock kernel and it still drains. I've installed better battery stats and this is what it shows:

I can see the biggest problem is Google talk. But what are the others? My wifi is set to never stay awake when sleeping.
Very annoying as I was having great battery life for the first month of use but then suddenly this starts happening.
This needs to be solved as I see I'm not the only one.
Edit: I don't even have gtalk installed because it was part of the bloatware removed by omegas rom.

Android OS draining battery, ONLY when connected to WIFI
Please find my screenshots attached. I discovered that my battery is only being drained when my phone is connected to WIFI. WIFI is on all the time, but when it's not connected to a network, nothing strange happens.
In the battery history details the first 9 hours are "recorded" when WIFI was on, but wasn't connected to any network (I was traveling). Then you can see a steep decrease when I got home again, and got connected to my WIFI network. This decrease continued than for the night.
In the BBS stats you can see that something from Google talk is listed quite high, and it is a large wake time.
However, it must be noted that although the phone has a huge awake time according to BBS, this can't be seen in the battery history of the phone itself. It seems like the phone is almost only awake when the screen is turned on, as it is supposed to be...
So it looks like when WIFI is connected something is happening, and that is draining my battery...
Any help in interpreting the above results is really appreciated!
Edit: I'm not logged in to Google Talk...
I'm only syncing WhatsApp, and Gmail (contacts, calendar and mail)
Last, but not least: The orange download arrow is on continuously. So it's downloading non-stop?! How can I find out what it is?

Seems to be the same problem.
No drain on other WIFI
Back home, at my own WIFI network I don't experience this battery drain, and everything is normal. However, on my friends WIFI and my work WIFI network battery drains much and much faster. I didn't change anything in the settings meanwhile...
Any thoughts on this?
Edit.
Sorry wrong thread
Nobody any idea why WIFI drains my battery when it's connected to certain networks? While on other WIFI networks battery usage is normal? And more important: why it suddenly drains the battery on these first networks, even after a factory reset while a few weeks ago this didn't happen and battery drain was normal even on these networks?
Same problem here, battery drain is enormous when phone is connected to my home wi-fi - 20% in 7 hours. Download arrow is always flashing, android constantly d/l's something at 4-10 kb/s. Of course, I've checked anything - from mail client to android os - nothing. Tcpdump shows broadcast packets, some ARP packets, 25 out of 273 packets are directed to me - 6 from my mediaserver, others are from Google's servers - nothing that can explain constant download. Any advice?
UP1:
Frozen/deleted all google and samsung apps - maps, gmail, gtalk, google+, samsung push, firmware update, etc. No changes. Disabling google backup and autosync did nothing,
Get a data usage app from play(onavo is good) and that should tell you what is using the data
I've now been on my home network for almost two days, and without changing any settings this is the result. (see the attachment).
As you can see the phone has been connected to WIFI all night, and no such drain can be seen as in my first post. In other words; without changing any settings on the phone battery drain is normal on my own WIFI network. However, on two other WIFI networks there is a huge battery drain when connected while the phone has exactly the same settings.
So, that probably means it isn't due to some kind of app, but due to the WIFI network, or more specific to the combination of phone and WIFI-network. Looks like the WIFI network is always pushing data to the phone, to the system Android OS (as far as I could trace using Data Monitor). I know there have been some issues with WIFI on the SGS3, but they were mostly about disconnecting, and therefore different than this one.
What is most annoying is the fact that a few days ago battery drain was normal on all WIFI networks. Only after updating Samsung Apps (which included AdService and Samsung Push Service) and the PhotoEditor it started draining fast. However, after deinstalling these apps and a factory reset the problem persist. Even when disabling almost all apps no improvement.
Edit: An explanation maybe, but only for "open networks". But not a real satisfactory solution.

Do a hard reset, install 3g watch dog pro (not just mobile network.. it can also check wifi data traffic) and install all of your regular apps. Follow wifi data traffic apps by apps from watchdog..
Or second answer: install android firewall app, and choose apps which are really need internet access... dont allow the otherones.

Doesn't help. Even after a factory reset, without adding my gmail account or installing any apps it drains the battery when WIFI is connected. The orange arrow is almost always lit, like it's downloading something. The strange thing is that this doesn't happen on another WIFI network, it only happens on some.
These apps tell me that it is the Android System itself which is downloading/receiving the data.

Multi-band Wi-Fi?
I don't know this for a fact, but I've read some things that lead me to believe the issue may (again, not confirmed), MAY be related to the recent ~LG8 OTA push. The root (no pun intended) cause is related to how the SG3 interacts in 802.11n band Wi-Fi networks that utilize multi-band (i.e. 2.4Ghz combined and 5Ghz running simultaneously).
One of the "features" of ~LG8 was to remove Advanced options for Wi-Fi networks, switching the connectivity logic to "automatic." If a GS3 is in a multi-band 'n' Wi-Fi network, it MAY be switching back and forth between bands, thus chewing up battery without actually pulling any data.
This is unconfirmed, so don't shoot the messenger. Can any of you validate whether or not the Wi-Fi networks where you see excessive drain is indeed a multi-band 'n' network?
No, im facing drain issues with 2.4 GHz network.
im also have this issue.

Modem doesn't change Wi-Fi. Drivers are in kernel.
Because you're facing issues on only some of your Wi-Fi networks I suspect it's the infamous broadcast/multicast issue. Try a custom kernel. Siyah have patched it I think. Had similar problems on my redundant network before patch.

Already on latest Siyah, no changes.
What is the infamous broadcast issue? There are a lot of broadcast packets in my network...
On open networks it is really bad. When I connect to such a network it asks for me to log in/accept the terms. After accepting the terms my (standard) internet browser redirects me to my own homepage. However, the orange download-arrow keeps lit up. After a few minutes the phone gives this notification that I should accept the terms again. However, when I'm redirected to the browser there is nothing to accept, and my internet is still working properly.
So it looks like this "acceptation of terms" is a major issue, like the phone doesn't remember I already accepted the terms. Is it caused by the browser? Or something else?
Hi guys, my mom have a D618, she's old so dont know much about Android. She want a long battery life so I rooted her phone, installed Greenify and disabled some bloatware app.
But sometimes I check the phone and notice that wifi cant turn on. I mean it seems to be turning on (wifi icon in quick setting blinks) but it can not turn on. I have to reset phone to fix it but this issue still appears after some days. I couldnt check her phone always so that it even if happens day by day make drain battery so much. I dont know what causes it, and how to fix it completely.
Is there anyone also get this issue like me? Fix experience? Thanks
