hello guys, i have another question, does anyone know if its safe for the phone and battery to have the charger plugged in and use the phone at the same time? ex play game or browse the web etc
Yes.. why wouldn't it be?
Well it's certainly safe. Whether it's the best thing for the battery - I'm not sure and you'll find some conflicting opinions. From what I know you shouldn't let your battery get too low or have it at 100% all the time, so I guess if you're running low on battery you can plug it in while using the phone, then unplug as soon as it's charged.

hi I've heard plenty of times that you should charge your phone once you get it or charge overnight..is this true in anyway? I always go straight to playing with my new phone and then charge once battery dies..any thoughts on this myth?
Hi. I have heard a few different things about this. I think there is a thread on here I read about it as well.
First is that it won't matter because batteries no longer need to have that memory thing.
Then there was one that said let it deplete, charge it and then when the light goes green unplug it and replug it in. The light will go red for a few more minutes and then green. That will set the battery.
Then I also read that you shouldn't charge it completely or let it completely deplete because that will lessen the charge over time
The last I heard is that (and this was under the discussion about extended batteries if I remember correctly) the batteries are made so that the battery meter tells us it is dead even though there is still a little bit of a charge on the battery that way it doesn't do anything bad to it.
So I really think it depends on who you listen to. I did the let it deplete and charge it thing once so far. I get decent battery life. I tested it and got 10 hours out of it with medium usage and I usually get more when I toggle off the 4g when not using it but haven't timed how long for that yet.
Hope that helps until someone who knows more specifics posts something.

I don't think it matters any more. I plugged mine in after I did initial setup and let it charge to green light, didn't do any special bump charging or charging while off. The battery is designed to be used as is, without any tricks. Always overcharging to 100% or completely draining to 0% is probably worse than just using it normally and plugging it in when you notice it's relatively low.
There's a battery log that Android keeps regarding voltage and reported capacity that it uses to adjust the percentage display that you see on your phone. This changes over time as it gets a better idea of how the battery discharges, so built into your phone is a mechanism to make sure the reported capacity is accurate. If it gets "off" a bit, like if you see a huge spike up or down in battery capacity after a reboot, it's just adjusting itself.
But, as you know, Android users love to control everything by themselves, and not leave anything to some process behind the scenes. Hence the clamor for root so we can install whatever we want. So some people like to trick this adjustment mechanism by force charging the phone to full when it's off, which gives the battery capacity adjustment mechanism a "true" full charge to base its reporting on. Also, I don't believe the kernels in stock ROMs will charge to what it believes a full 100% charge is, to protect the battery life. Bump charging kind of gets around that, if I understand the process correctly.
Also, I don't charge overnight (lack of outlets in bedroom) so I make sure it's topped off before I go to bed. Even if it's not, it can make it through the night just fine, since it's not being used. So that's not that much of an issue anyway.
TL; DR: Just use it, plug it in when you need to.
I'm wondering it would be okay to remove the Ace's battery and run it on the AC power adapter that charges the battery.
I have read about battery issues here since I got my Ace a few weeks ago. I'm a little disappointed that the charging circuitry isn't smart enough to stop current fed to the battery when the phone signals that it's fully charged. Because of that it's recommended NOT to do what most people probably do... leave their phones connected to the AC charger overnight.
But I haven't been able to find anything on whether or not it would be harmful to pull the battery so it won't overcharge, and run the phone directly from the AC adapter. I didn't realize the phone had such a great radio receiver. I'd love do for long periods of time what I've been doing briefly from time to time on battery... plug it into the audio input for my stereo and play the radio, MP3s, audio from YouTube videos etc.... but powered by household AC.
Anyone know if there'd be any issues doing that?
I tried it , doesn't work unfortunately .
Ace-ing all tests.
Well it was a thought.... Thanks.
My old nokia dumbphone can do that
Btw the phone is smart enough to not overcharge even if u leave it plugged overnight. Its called trickle charge or something, when battery is 100% full it'll stop charging, and when it discharge to 99% it'll charge again till 100% and the cycle continues. Moreover when phone shows 100% charged it was lying all along, to prevent sudden overvoltage. Maybe its just 95% when it showed 100% full

Do you have any links to pages that detail testing that? I googled for quite a while and only came up with a couple hits that said suggested the opposite. But it seems Samsung and the Android OS would be smarter than that.

That sure sounds right. I downloaded an app that displays battery charge by percentage increments. After charging the Ace until it gave an audible notification, within seconds the battery indicator dropped from 100% to I think 87% and stayed there for quite a while.
Well I found a stress test on the Galaxy Ace that says, "The battery contains a microchip that protects it from short circuits and overcharging."
But again I came up with this information saying, "... never put your phone for charging over night as this may hamper the battery’s life very badly..."
There must be definitive info out there on the phone's charging circuity. But I haven't found it yet.
Guys, I m having a serious problem from the last week ... whenever i charge my galaxy s 2 ... all it does is get heated up ... but not even one percent of the battery gets charged .. but it charges only wen i switch off the mobile
i m on android 2.3.6
baseband version DDKL1
PLS HELP !
Try to recalibrate your battery using recovery menu or 3rd party app from the market.
I'd also recommend upgrading to 4.0.3 via Kies.
are you trying to recharge it with usb or mains?
First thing; don't try and 'calibrate' your battery using any app, the recovery menu or any voodoo crap you might read on here. It's just not possible. It's a nonsense. Best you can do is charge the battery to 100%, remove it for a minute, put it back in the phone & enjoy so far as that is concerned.
Waza is on the right path. If that's happening when it's connected to charger, you probably have a problem with the battery in all likelihood (or maybe even the charging circuitry). I'd get a new battery & see how that goes in the first instance, if it does end up being something 'worse' (USB/charging circuitry), at worst you'll have a spare battery for when you get it repaired & at best you'll fix the problem.
As Waza alluded, if it's happening on USB charge, that's not necessarily unusual if you're using the phone - whatever you're doing with the phone is using more juice than the rate of charge, also the phone will tend to get hot if you do anything more than light use while it's on either AC or USB charge.
i have upgraded it to 4.0.3
and i m looking forward for the battery life ...
and yes it happens with both mains and usb
anyways ty guyz
Hi all,
I've been having a wierd problem with my gs2 battery recently. It keeps on saying that it's charging however the battery is never increasing, it actually starts to decrease even though it says it is charging. It occasionally likes to turn on and off automatically. Recently, it has only charged when the battery is on 0%, I usually leave my phone charging overnight and when I can get the charger to work, I wake up and it says 100% but really, when I turn it on it says 85% or significantly lower. Sometimes, like now, it decides to work whilst it's on but this is not always the case, that is why I am not sure if it's a port problem. I have tried different chargers and some decide to charge the phone but continously turn on and off (on the off screen, battery charging picture appears and then reloads etc.), others don't work at all. I am not using a stock battery however my stock battery charges okay but is very weak (only last like 2-3hrs even when I'm not using it) and the current one lasts a long time once I nanage to get it to 100%. I have tried different online solutions such as taking the battery out for 10 secs, put phone on charge then put battey back in etc . and it hasn't worked. There have been times where the battery has crashed from 70%+ to 8% whilst it's off which seems wierd. I have attached some battery status images. Has anyone had this issue before? I would really appreciate any help or solutions you know that may work.
Replace battery first, if problem persists replace USB board/port (replacing battery should fix it though) - KeithRoss39 has a guide in General (search for 'Replace USB charger board') which will enable you to do it yourself quickly/easily/cheaply if replacing battery doesn't fix it.
Hello guys,
I am quite sceptical about gaming and charging simultaneously. I've got 2 cases here:
1) You played for a long time, so your phone needs some juice. Put in charger, keep playing while charging or better to let it charge in peace without any load and continue playing after the battery is full?
EDIT: I found the sollution. Asus claims that battery shall not get too warm when charging and beeing under heavy use due to that they move fast charging stuff from phone into the charging adapter. So this question shall be answered by myself. But still some users advice to let it charge without heavy use.
2) Your battery is full. You want to play games. Keep charger in while playing or rather put it out? I mean that if you let charger in, theoretically the battery should not drain any power, so all power suply provides the plugged charger so the battery is not beeing wore, is it?
THX for all opinions/replies.
I have been playing hard with the phone and had used both cases.
Case 1, you can play and charge at the same time. That is why you have a side port to be able to play in landscape.
Case 2, if the battery is full, keeping the charger connected or not should be irrelevant for operation. Now what happens to the battery, is a completely different matter. Depends on the construction and the actual procedures that Asus has put on the phone to keep the phone running.
On both cases it's not good for battery health
In contrast to laptops which use the direct cable power supply instead of the battery when plugged in, android phones use the battery at all times, so if you connect the charger while also using your phone, the phone will use the battery and an the same time the charger is charging the battery
In other words, you are killing the battery with your own hands because being charged and decharged at the same time is really bad for Li-Ion batteries.
That's why they say first charge your phone up and then use it, and repeat, that is of course if you care about using the device in long term, otherwise, just do whatever you want and you're good for at least a year...
