Guys please help me!
I am desperate. My Razr XT910 was working fine until last week.
Yesterday, I realised that when I plug it in my computer through the USB port, the Select Connection screen won't show up in the phone and the computer won't recognise it. It only charges the phone.
Then, I went to my dock, the standard Motorola one. It's not working. If I plug the charger there, though, it charges the phone. But my Razr won't enter into dock modes.
Then, the lapdock. I tried to connect it to my phone, but nothing happened.
My phone is 2.3.6 and it's not rooted. I don't know what caused this.
Motorola through a live chat told me to send it to the service provider in my country, which by the way, never help anyone.
What can I do? Has this happened to anyone? I don't get it why it randomly stopped working properly!
I really really need you all's help.
I have this same problem with sgs2 at this moment. I believe that your port had to be cleaned. Some used toothbrushes while others used alcohol on a toothpick or cue tip.

Didn't work. I am really sad. Everything else is fine. I read that when this happens, the phone won't even charge in the end, because the microUSB port is broken.

If your trying to do it on a desk, without holding it in your hand, it can wonk out and not respond correctly (quite frustrating when developing). Also, I have seen this before on my old iDevide, the power/grounding electrical stuff.can mess with touch sensativity. If it is really annoying you, maybe you have a defective unit and so go get it replaced. I can't vouch for what you are saying when u plug it in it stops working though. I have an otterbox defender on my phone.
Just mah 2 cents.

If you are not using an original charger or USB cable, it may happen. It happened to me with a Moto Milestone.
If actually your charger and cable are original, then your phone might be defective
Someone in Milestone 2 forum suggested use of a longer usb to microusb cable .. something around 1.5 m would do

I have an Atrix 4G from ATT and it is not charging. It doesn't matter if I am using a wall charger (both stock and after market) or a USB cable connected to the computer. The only thing that happens is that if I am connected to a wall charger and restart my phone, it will come back on immediately, or when I plug it up when it has been off, its light will light up green for about 3 seconds, then go off.
If anyone has had this issue or might know what is going on, please let me know.
Thanks
Is your phone rooted? Are you using a custom rom?
If so, try erasing battery history and a full charge.
If this doesn't work, I guess you could be in the need for a new battery...

I have already had a new battery sent to me from Motorola, as with my old one, it would not charge and it had got to the point where it would not boot. The phone was bought from someone else and I don't know the history of the phone, but I don't believe it is rooted.
Thanks for your reply.
Have you tried a different cable? I realize you said you've tried just the USB, and two different wall chargers, but was it all with the same USB cable? I had the same issue, but it was the fault of the USB cable I was using.
I have tried several different cables, all of which I know are working (at least with my primary phone, HTC Aria). I have used three different USB Cables, both on the computer and with a USB Wall Adapter, and two wall chargers.
Also, I have wondered if it is a bad USB port, but I just have doubts if that is the cause. Could this be the reason, or does anyone else have any suggestions?
Thanks again for ALL the help so far, and any help that can be provided.
My USB wallcharger went bad. Got a new one off eBay (OEM) and everything works fine now.

Aria Cord
I've tried using cords ment for the Aria and Inspire/Desire with my Atrix and they never work right. Occasionally they'll work for a few min but i almost always have to go get my "Atrix" cord to do anything including charging at times. Oh, boyfriend just looked it up... it's the HTC wall plug that wont charge Motorola phones, not the cord fault. This might still help
*edit*
I'm not sure if what he read is really accurate. I remember having more issues with his cords (HTC) then what he just read.

I have looked at getting a new OEM charger, but I borrowed a charger from a friend, and this charger had a green tag on it that said EcoMoto, and I guessed that it was an OEM (but please correct me if I am wrong), and it still didn't work with the phone.
Thanks for all the replys.
I have gotten an external battery charger and I have gotten the battery charged to 100%. I have then tried with another USB cable, which still hasn't worked. I am looking at, as I have stated before, replacing the MicroUSB port. Does anyone think that this might be the reason for my issue, and does anyone has any tips for replacing the USB port?
Thanks for all the replays that I have gotten so far and any tips/suggestions that can be given to me.
Well guys, this is basically my last resort. Title says it all, really, my Atrix absolutely refuses to charge unless placed in my lapdock.
Originally, I was just thinking this was a bad charge/usb cable. Tried all of them in my house and at work. Nothing.
Next, I assumed it was a battery problem. Wrong again. My battery in my brother's Droid X works perfectly. If that wasn't enough proof, I work for an AT&T retailer, and a few days ago a customer traded in an original Atrix. I immediately took their battery and tried it in mine. Same thing.
Alright, ROM issue, perhaps. Flashed multiple versions of CM9 by Turl and Jokersax, and the Nuetrino builds. Notta.
I finally begin to tell myself it was just a faulty charge port, and that I'd need to have it repaired. Out of other options, I placed it in my lapdock. Lo and behold, she charges up, every single time.
Anyone have ANY idea why this would be happening?
I've already attempted taking the phone apart and checking the connections inside. I'm no technician, but everything seemed fine. Slight problem there, my cheap screw driver stripped 2 of those T5 torx screws during reassembly, so now I've gotta find a way to get those out before I can get inside again, if necessary. Ugh.
It's obviously not really realistic to carry my lapdock with me everywhere, although that's been my only option as of late.
If any of you guys can suggest a solution, I'd greatly appreciate it.
Help me out, fellow Atrix users.
I see you tried a different cable, but did you try a different USB wall plug? Had a similar thing happen to me about 4 months ago. Could only get my phone to fully charge on lapdock. Ended up buying a new OEM USB wallcharger off eBay. Charges fine with new charge. Old charger went bad. I would try a different charger.

I've tried literally every cable and wall plug I could find. As I said, I work at an AT&T retail store, so I've had access to tons of them. Nothing has worked so far.
Sorry for your luck. I'm pretty sure the Tom has nothing to do with charging as you can charge the phone while its off.
If its charging on the dock correctly, then I would think the phone is fine and there must be something wrong with the chargers you are trying.
Are the other chargers you are trying brand new OEM Motorola ones or aftermarket?
Sent from my MB860 using xda app-developers app
Both. No results.
You mention charging the phone while off... mine doesn't do that anymore either, or power on at all with the battery taken out.
I'm wondering if there is some kind of short in the charge port that requires HDMI to be plugged in before it will receive current. Odd theory, I know, but it makes enough sense given the evidence.
After a good long while my X2's microSD port stopped working. So now I can't charge it, or connect it to my computer. I took it to a Verizon Wireless store and they confirmed that the port looks fine, but doesn't work. They had me a replacement shipped. I have the one they just sent me working fine, but I have to return my old one. The old one with the messed up port has Eclipse v2.3 on it, and I don't know how to get it back to a stock ROM without being able to connect it to my computer. It says in the shipping paperwork that they can charge me the full retail price for several reasons, including "software alterations." I can get to the stock bootloader of course, but bootstrap requires me to be plugged in to the AC charger. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks guys.
When you say doesn't work... do you mean absolutely zilch or will it charge?

I mean absolutely zilch!
Have you tried wiggling the USB plug on your cable when it's connected? Sometimes, it might be really loose. I'm assuming you and Verizon tried, especially if you took it to Verizon and they confirmed it wasn't working.
I'm also assuming you've tried different cables just in case? I do know that if you don't use a cable that was made specifically for the X2, it might not have enough power to charge. I have noticed that with my RAZR (and my X2 before that), using USB cables and chargers that were NOT specific to the RAZR/X2 worked fine for a while and then they wouldn't work or worked sporadically. I would have to wiggle the cable to make it "register" but one slight movement would then cause the phone to say it was disconnected from the charger.
But, if I used the car charger or charging cable that came with my RAZR/X2, it worked fine.
I know some people have also tried bending in the outside part of the USB port more towards the inside so that it results in a tighter fit for the USB connector on your cable and that has worked. But, you definitely want to be careful if you're returning it.
Otherwise, it's probably something on the actual circuit board inside where the port has broken away from the logic board and is no longer registering to the phone when something is connected. At that point, I think you're done.
Thanks for the Ideas

Thanks for the ideas, but I already tried all of those with no luck. There was about two days where I could still charge it with some manipulation of the connection, but no more.
What about a different battery, tried a ifferent one?? If the battery is shot, that can create a headache in its own world.

Nope, the battery is fine. It's working well in replacement phone.
Ok, im trying to figure out why this phone wont charge or connect to pc via usb. I have done testing on the port, and it appears the port is good. and it seems to be making good contact with the board. I have posted pics of the port and the area that connects to the board. I have checked the continuity from a cut usb cable i have, plugged it in port and have good continuity across all the pins of the port. My question is, are the pads on the other side of the pcb points for the usb port? becuase i have no continuity on any of the points with any pin in the cable. the phone turns on, i bought a brand new battery and screen for the phone, i got it for free from someone and it was completely shattered. I have about 75 dollars invested in it. It works perfectly, completely virgin no root or unlocked bootloader. Running the latest update.
I also posted a pic of the jtag pads, there is no continuity on any of those either to the USB. Nor any other pad on the board anywhere. And i think thats odd, there should be one somewhere.
Sorry if i posted this in the wrong area, mods can move it if they need to.

Oh yea, ive done all the obvious things to try and figure it out. When i got it, they said it just quit charging, so i figured it was the battery, so i bought a brand new battery, which came charged, and a new screen, since it was shattered. It turns on, works perfectly, but it will no charge or connect to pc. ive tried 4 or 5 different cables, and ive wiggled and bent and pushed and pulled and everything else on them to try and get a sign of connectivity. So far ive come up with nothing.. This appears to be a common problem with this model, i guess i should have researched it more before i spent so much on parts for it.
Maybe the circuit board is fried.

As in the port lost connection to the board/broke? or this same situation, where it just quit working for no reason? The port is working as it should, and making good connection with the board. I'm stumped. If the port was broken, i could replace the port, no problem, but im 100% positive the port is not the issue here.

Did you figure out what happened to it? Mine suddenly developed a problem last week and would appear to be charging (charging light on) but it does not really charge. The port looks ok.
