Depends on your provider and it also depends on if you're already on ICS or if you're on GB.

I'm on tmobile and on GB

Well then just update via ota. You don't need s-off to update via ota.

I'm rooted don't get otas

Download that file, relock your bootloader, rename that file PH85IMG, put it on your SD card and reboot into your bootloader, it'll detect the file, hit volume up when it asks you to, sit back and watch the magic happen.
Disclaimer: this may wipe your internal sd card, so move all your files to your external sd card.

Stuck in bootloader

I was trying to unroot and go back to stock to update to newest OTA and I am stuck in bootloader. Any option I select like reboot or receovery just takes me back to bootloader. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Without any information on what you were on when you tried to unroot, nobody can help you. What was your software info when you tried to unroot? And what unroot method did you use?
I downloaded a PG86IMG.zip file from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1388501 ... when I got to step 8 to reboot it just gets me to bootloader... I'm on HBOOT 1.5

You need another PC image you relocked now so there is no rom on the phone you need to snag the latest PC86IMG stock rom this will get you going man. What you flashed was a stock recovery from the looks of it.
If your relocked will say so in Hboot at the top you need the latest one of these http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1447839

What I did at that point was power off my phone, take out my SD card, and put it in a usb adapter. Connect it to your PC then place the PG86IMG.zip in the root of your SD card. Place the SD card back in your phone power up and the phone will pick up the file and update all on its own.
once i download file do i need to rename it to PC86IMG.zip or leave as is?

Cannot flash PH85IMG.zip "wrong zipped image"

I need help. Normally I never ask questions I perfer to scan the forum looking for answers but this is my first question.
So we all know by now there is a leaked ICS Rom for the HTC Amaze. Well I downloaded the RUU put it at the root of the external SD and loaded it in hboot. Hboot starts the normal routine of looking for images to flash and dismissing all the missing ones. When it comes to PH85IMG it will stop the sidebar will take a minute to slowly load to full and the following result would say:
Loading...[PH85IMG.zip]
Wrong zipped image!
then it will finish the routine and essentually dismiss. After that all I can do is return to normal use
Phone info:
T-mobile HTC Amaze 4G rooted S-ON
Android 2.3.7/ Sense 3.5
Faux's v009 Kernal
thanks kindly for the help developers.

I think the only way for someone S-on to install this update is to return the phone back to stock. you have to revert your bootloader back to locked and make the phone stock again.
In that case I guess it's about time to reach S-OFF. To those reading I'll give the result.

I just went through the whole s-off procedure and was able to flash the image after that. I didn't revert back to stock. I guess that was my problem too, but everything is working fine with ICS so far.
I relocked the bootloader and was able to get ICS.
kinda sad though im about to root it just to get rid of the bloat apps . Umm I hope others can use this as guide.
Please help!!! cannot flash ics rue
Hey! I have a similar problem. I have relocked the boot loader, NO root, S-ON... basically the only thing I did was unlocking and relocking the bootloader.
I copied the zip file in the ext-sd folder. In Hboot mode it scans the sdcard but a "NO image or wrong zip image" appears... So I reboot normally....
Now a strange thing happens and the zip file i copied onto the sdcard is 0Kb!!!! I tried several times... can sameone help me?
BTW I have a external sd card intalled (actually is one form another phone formatted as fat 32) + the internal memory.
thanks!

Make sure the zip you have is good and make sure the SD card is good. strange that you place a 487mb file and it changes to 0kb on its own. try formatting the
SD and try again or try using a different one.
I would re-copy the zip to your sd card again.

Back to stock?

Hey there,
So I rooted and rommed an Amaze 4g for a friend of mine like 6 months ago, the phone is only unlocked but not S-OFF.
He just wants to go back to stock & frankly im tired of the lifetime tech support - so its a win win.
I put him on GB Android revolution, i believe that's a stock rom with a few tweaks.
Can I just update the phone to the Latest TRUE ICS and be done with it?
I could care less if it relocks the phone & unroots it. I just wanna be done with it.
Thanks in advance.

Na, you'll have to flash back to stock GB, just download one of the stock GB RUU'S and flash it via the bootloader, do the ics update from android via ota.
OK I just downloaded the stock gb ruu. You mean flash it in cwm or rename the zip and do an update.zip?

Rename the file PH85IMG and place it on your sd card, not in any folders, just on the sd, reboot into your bootloader (should know how to get this), the hboot will auto detect the file, when it's done scanning it, just hit volume up to flash it, give it a few, it's gonna install and auto reboot.

Thanks for your response. However after HBOOT loads everything, it just goes back to the little androids on skateboards and doesn't ask to update.
What to do?
Relock bootloader and try again.

Question about rooting

My major focus is to get rid of bloatware; I really don't want to wipe my phone for a ROM. Is it possible to root, freeze bloatware and then unroot so that I can have the ability to download the OTA ICS if its ever released?
Does anyone know if the leak firmware fixes the hotspot bug?
Yeah, to unroot after you do your changes, just remove the superuser.apk app and the su binary from the /system/xbin directory.
If you are running ICS you can disable bloat from the app manager. No Root necessary. The only reason I am rooted is so I can use the WiFi Tether app. I'm running Scott's rooted version of the latest leak.

I don't think it is advantageous whatsoever to unroot after you removed bloat. Why why do you want to do that? Just so you don't have to wipe?
Do note that you'll have to wipe during the root process since you'll need to unlock the bootloader before you can root.
i guess im dumb

Use a file explorer like ESFile Explorer to get to the root of your sd card.
But you can't flash the leak without an unlocked bootloader.

Actually, you need to u lock the bootloader, flash Amon RA (link in my sig) and RELOCK then place the PH98IMG.zip on the root of your SD card and flash in HBoot. If you have an unlocked bootloader, it will not work, but you have to have a custom recovery or it will not work either

[Q] Stuck on stock gingerbread ROM missing files

I'm currently using a Macbook Pro and NOT Windows PC. I rooted my Rezound March 2012 with PC at time. Well awhile back I had accidentally deleted some system files from stock gingerbread 2.3.4 ROM. Now i'm not able to update my device to ICS to make use of the global capabilities. I installed Scotts ROM 2.3.4 a copy of it but it never recovered the system files that were missing. I would like to be able to S-Off (couldn't perform wire trick) and flash either CM 10.2 (Jelly Bean 4.3) or CM 11.0 (kitkat 4.4). I've read without being on stock baseband radio (ICS) I'm not able to perform a flash to new ROM. Anyone have any suggestions to proceed further? Thanks!
Well first of all you can use rum runner from the general section to soff with out wire trick. You say that the gingerbread boot loader doesn't support fastboot?

That's exactly what I was telling pball52998 I had planned on doing. Except with mac it's difficult and without being able to get to ICS with the radio capabilities I can not go that route. I need to obtain stock gingerbread containing ALL system files including the system OTA update file I originally deleted. When i had to re-do my phone over a year ago and re-flash gingerbread because my device was messed up I was NOT able to access files that I had deleted in system. I was supposed to freeze them not uninstall originally. Unless there's an ICS unoffical ROM with all working radios and global capabilities then I'm forever stuck on Stock gingerbread. Do you understand? And using another persons PC is a no go because i have to install software ADB on their computer and I'm 100% sure they would not be ok with it at all. It's getting late here now. so goodnight to you. :good:

ADB doesn't need to be installed, you can just drop the files into a temp folder, run what you need and delete them.
As for getting your phone up to ICS, this will wipe your phone (including the Internal SD, back up anything you want off to your computer), upgrade your phone to ICS and the hboot to 2.27 which is sufficient for installing JB/KK roms.
As long as your hboot is 2.27 or older and your bootloader is locked, it should work fine, follow the directions on the page. If none of the mirrors work, Raventech has it posted in a thread here also.
