Some times my galaxy s3 gets laggy ( i mean laggy in scrolling in menu , scrolling thru home screens) , everything. The animations wont stay smooth for a short time.
Im not interested in flashing any custom rom and i think the s3 is pretty fast and smooth with the stock rom , and i even want to keep the features.
Any idea what is causing this ?
Thanks.
Settings - advance settings, change both window and transition to 0.5x
S- voice - settings - uncheck the launch s- voice with double tap of home button.
There is a lag on home button because the phone is waiting to see if you press it a second time to activate s-voice, the above 2 really do help.

If you are using any widgets that have information that automatically updates, remove them and reboot. Reapply them 1 by 1 leaving a while between each. Before adding the next one, check for lags. When you find lag, it's likely the last one you applied is the culprit.

i also have some problem on my s3. i seems to be lagging (from lock screen to home screen), not as smooth (in temrs of animation, etc) as before. i dont know the cause, i always clear the memory. and the averge % of the 50-60%. the first time it happened, i restore the factory settings, and it become smooth again. but now, it's lagging again. what could have been the cause of it? and how could i fixed this without restoring factory settings again, i dont want to lose my files again. please help. thanks!!!
other info: i only have 3 homescreens, i only use the default widgets except for, 2 apw widgets. my lockscreen app is widgetlocker. ram is 398/780mb
My lag disapeared when i turned of the power saving mode. Had the same problem before.

Power saving only causes issues but does not really prolong the battery life (according to my own and other people's tests)
Just keep it off and enjoy the phone.
If you wanted lower specs, get a Galaxy S1...

Since a lot of contact syncs generally lengthen the contact list. If u r logged in to too many social networking sites or other apps like chaton and accounts like samsung account, it generally slows down the phone. Since initially the mobile didnt hv lots of contacts and sync accouts , it was running smooth.
I applied this on my S3 as it was showing the same problem and i dont see any lag now.
Ha! S3 users are experiencing lag! Glad to hear it, not in a big rush to upgrade now...

no it makes just the animations run with 60 frames per second, but it doesn't disable lags. on android you will have always lags, because the UI rendering has a low priority.
take it easy guys it's just a phone, even a desktop lags what more for a phone..
let's wait for more years, hopefully people can then throw the work "LAG" to oblivion

I dont think android will ever been mostly lag free. even a 200€ windows phone runs more smooth then a 500€ samsung galaxy s3, its a "problem" of android. but for that con, it has good multitasking.
I'm experiencing pretty slow and laggy multi tasking and laggy YouTube. The multitasking was a lot smoother on my gnex. Is this normal or should I go exchange my s3 for a new one.
Has anybody played tap tap revenge smoothly in SGY without any problems?
I've been having a hard time tapping two tappers at the same time. Sometimes it reads it, sometimes it doesnt tap, sometimes it taps only one of them. Does anyone have the same problem?
If you got TTR to run smooth on your SGY please tell me how

I play it and yes i also have that issue as well as dozens of others running it in sgy, i think its due to the screen size which is too small since it wasnt made for 320x240 resolution, you can tap both left and right at the same time but you cant tap the middle with either ledt/right at the same time, you have to do it one by one really fast if you want to keep your combo going,
Heres screenshot of my taptap

I tested it out with my sister's galaxy pocket (which has same resolution and smaller screen)... It worked like a dream, and so do all apps that SGY can handle. Which I had waited for that phone instead, totally beats our crappy SGY XD

When screen goes black just lock the screen of the phone and unlock..
I have done that....I mean lock and unlock the screen when it goes black.....is there any other alternative...
Sent from my GT-S5830i using xda premium
Locking and unlocking not working for you? I don't know of any alternative..
Well, the solution (for me) was to set in Chainfire3D (at Default OpenGL settings) 2 things:
1. Reduce texture quality
2. Reduce texture size.
Then open the game. It's the only solution. The game will not look very nice, but at least you will be able to play it.
I am not able to run it that way too....I am uploading the screen shot...is any file missing ......there are lot of music files except this folders....

Yes, but it's the only solutions to play this game. That's why i said it will look ugly. Plus you will have to press blindly untill you find "settings menu" or "race" and other stuffs. But if you know how they are positioned it's easy. Luckly for me I played this game on another phone (an Xperia one) and I know how to start a race. I guess it's very hard to play for the first time NFS Shift on S5830i if you can't see any text. The text is there, but you have to press randomly, untill you find it. I'm sorry. But once you enter in a race all problems dissapears (I mean you have no problems seeing the cars, the road or anything else). The only thing is that the image doesn't have a high quality (but it's understandable, knowing that you choosed to reduce texture quality and texture size).
It's a game that worh playing on a S5830i only if you are a big fan of racing cars. My daughter (of 4,5 years old) likes to play this game on my phone (xperia) but she wanted this game on her mom's phone too (S5830i). I had a lot of problems until I made it to work on S5830i, untill I found the solution. Trust me: the solution posted by me it's the only one. I am praying to God to be another one.

I've noticed that sometime if I'm I'm an app and I push the home button it almost instantly brings me back to my home screen and other times it has a slight half second delay. For example it will be super fast maybe 10x in a row, then it will have a slight delay but eventually gets quick again.

I experience this every now and then, usually with resource-hungry apps. Not to pretend like I know what I'm talking about (because I don't), but it might also have something to do with redraws on the launcher.

Oh yeah I'm running nova launcher prime.. No maybe it's just the launcher and not the phone at all? Other than this i really never notice any lag.

I should mention that I also have aggressive desktop checked on nova launcher. Not sure what it does though. Maybe the next time I notice this slight delay bill restart nova launcher and if it goes away I guess I'll know it's a nova launcher issue which in sure the next update will fix.

If you have S-Voice activated on your phone the S4 will wait about a half a second after you press the home button to see whether or not you press it again to activate S-Voice. If you disable this, it will immediately go to the home screen after pressing the home button. It is not lag, but rather a built in timer.

I have had this happen a few times . I've been running the CM nightlies and just thought it was something to do with the build.
I turned my kernel to stock settings (I was overclocked) to try to replicate your problem and I guess now that I am consciously thinking about it I have it too, I don't think its a huge deal though. A quarter of a second isn't that bad to me so I don't really care. If I'm overclocked it the animation is instant. It could be the ap switcher animation that lags under high resources. Try disabling that? or OC your phone.

How do I disable it? Idk how to over clock. I'm not rooted. I'm sort of a smartphone noob. Like I said if I close all recent apps it's instant but other times it's a fraction of a second. It's not nessecarily when I have tons of apps running either.

In your developer settings, select animator duration scale and turn it to 'off' see if that helps. If not, then there isn't alot you can do unrooted I don't believe.

Yeah I have them all at 1x and haven't touched them, I tend to stay away from most of the things in developer settings
Oh I see. I have them all off now. I uninsulated this app called system monitor lite and it seems like it always runs in the background bcuz how else would it be able to monitor my battery temp etc all day? It might be placebo but ever since I uninstalled it everything seems to be running really good.
Sent from my Verizon Galaxy S4
Well I've spent hours trying to figure this out. When I have 0 apps running, and for example I open up the phone app or contacts app, then hit the home button, it responds instantly. However, sometimes once I get a bunch of apps running in the background the home button response can slow to like half a second, almost as if that s voice home button feature was enabled. Do you think the problem here could be that a bunch of apps aren't yet optimized for the s4 so when they are running in the background they are causing some home button lag?

Maybe changing the touch sensitivity (don't know if im saying it correct) will help you. Go to settings - advanced options - screen (in some cases tap device first) and change the touch sensitivity.
