Offical CM9 - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I can't understand that why there are no
offical CM9.
Anyone knows reason?
Please give the reason that why there are
no offical CM9
Sent from my MB861 using xda premium

Probably because there is no official ics yet

Then why CM team do not build offical CM9?
Sent from my MB861 using xda premium

No ICS drivers yet

The Atrix Dev Team has not released an official CM9 because ICS for the Atrix has not been released, hence there are no Atrix-specific drivers available to use. The unofficial CM9 ports (I hate that stupid term "kang") are Frankenstein monsters cobbled together from the current CM9 sources, with some code and drivers from other phones (and maybe even some CM7 code) thrown into the mix. Even though they do work, there are still problems and performance issues, which is to be expected from a cobbled-together ROM. Basically, nothing can happen until ICS for the Atrix is released, which will provide the necessary drivers and resources for an official CM9 port to happen.

Can we sticky this single post? It was save on a number of threads.

Like the term Frankenstein monsters. But if I remember correctly Frankie was kind, misunderstood and moved a bit awkwardly at times. Much like current cm9 for atrix. NOT SUCH A BAD LIL MONSTER.

With that ability to put a positive spin on anything, you should go into politics.

Thanks for your specific answer!
But, I am using MB861, Korean version and there aren't any plan to ICS for Korea Atrix.
Is it can be a problem for offical CM9?
P.S I must wait until 3Q for offical CM9..

[Q] So is anyone workin on a ICS rom?

I see all these devices getting ICS, hell even vibrant and captivate have a port, and the only 2 threads i saw that mentioned ICS being worked on, are no longer active in development, so whats the deal? ICS themes are cool and all but theme is a theme, i want the full ice cream goodness. Is there anyone currently working on a 4.0 ROM?
Yes, multiple devs are currently working on a port. I believe codeworx is getting very close.

i'm not flaming although it will probably look like I am - why are people so impatient about ICS? I have never seen so many "where's ICS?" threads compared to the Gingerbread update, for example.
I agree however you can't blame android enthusiasts for being overly excited about the release of ics. Although gingerbread was a great release, ics is much more of a major release because of it basically merging gingerbread with honeycomb, making it unlike any other android release to date.

They're working on it with the I9100.
Personally, I'm waiting until there's a kernel source drop for the Linux 3.0.9 kernel for I9100 ICS - I'll start porting work then.
ICS ports based on 2.6.35 are interim hackjobs.
(yes, 3.6.35 was a typo)

Because it's been a year since GB.
Not trying to sound impatient, I was following a couple deb's and saw that they had stalled/stopped development and couldn't find any other threads with active ics development. More curious to see if it's being worked on or waiting for my leaks

More leaks*
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using xda premium
Mainly waiting for more leaks - It's luck of the draw whether a device's vendor-proprietary libraries will work with ICS or not.
They apparently got lucky with the I9000/Captivate, not so lucky with the I9100.
You have to keep in mind that it is EXTREMELY rare for there to be an AOSP device bringup to be completed in any reasonably functional form before an official vendor firmware for a given device (or at least a very similar device) becomes available.

CM9 on HTC legend?

Is it possible to install CM9 on my HTC legend? I really want Ice Cream Sandwich on it
Didn't you already post ics alpha 2 in the dev forum?
Sent from my HTC Legend using XDA App
I just tried downloading a CM9 alpha for Legend named Cofface, hmm.
Anyone have a download link for it?
Saw a chinese link in the dev forum, but the download speed was too slow (10kb/s)
I believe there is already a rom that has ported ICS onto the legend but it has quite a few issues that have yet to be fixed, thus making it a less viable choice when finding a suitable rom/. However if you mean the CM 9 rom that will be released by Cyanogen mod team themselves, I have my doubts they are planning on making one for the legend. Keep our hopes up with the other awesome developers that are working on the roms for legend (if there still are any..)
Maybe ali ba can confirm this?
Will there be officiall CM9 for the legend?
The closest to Ice Cream Sandwich on the HTC Legend is the alpha stage rom OP posted in development section.
If your asking whether Cyangenmod would be officially releasing CM9 based on ICS soon, the answer would be no. As iirc Cyanogenmod would be focusing on processors that are newer and a bit more powerful than the HTC Legends.

ali ba, why you don't say something about zeubea's CM9? Seems like you still think that CM9 it's impossible in our Legends.
It's funny that HTC Said that was impossible to have a working Gingerbread ROM in our Legends, and you just make the best Gingerbread ROM, and now you say that it impossible to have a working ICS ROM on our Legends, and Zeubea makes a working ROM
i didn't intend my former post to be provocative/degrading in any form. to the contrary, i am very grateful for what ali ba has done & achieved for us legend users!
i just wanted to ask if the recent progress by zeubea, in bringing ics pretty smoothly running with hw acceleration onto the legend & getting all the other hardware components pretty much sorted, could enable official cm9 support for the legend...

I would just like to point out Ali ba didn't actually say ics can't run on legend, if he did I must have missed that post. He said that he already made an ics port for his legend and it didn't run very good, no drivers for GPS,wifi etc and that he'd have to use froyo and/or gingerbread drivers which he didn't want to do, or release a rom that was cobbled together from hacks, or words to that effect.
I also recall that he made mention that ics he made would have been no better than an ics themed froyo or gingerbread O/S.

agreed, he just mean that he doesn't want to release anything that is half baked or fully stable, he doesn't want to hurt his reputation to release something like that. and i'm glad Zeabea shows up and take his time and afford in making ICS for our legend, and I got to say Zeabea ROM is good enough, and I can use it for daily uses what more can u ask for? if we still believe and work hard for it, anything is possible. That's why human is the dominance species for a reason. We man a lots of miracles, discovery many unbelievable things. ^^

I know what he said, and he said that, unless there's a miracle, we won't have an stable ICS ROM on our Legends.
What I tried to say is that he said we wont see an STABLE ICS ROM, I know it's possible to run all android versions on our Legend (Including Honeycomb), but the problem it's to make an stable rom.
And don't get me wrong, I like all the good work ali ba made with CM7 just because we won't pay him to do that. And if he thinks that it's impossible to have a good ICS ROM on our Legends, I respect his opinion.
official CM != stable ICS

No, he didn't. He guessed there won't be *an official CM9*, which is something different.
I'm not an expert on CM decision making, but here's my take: to be included, CM9 on the Legend would need to be stable AND high quality.
(in the bad old days, I tried several WinMo4/5/6 ROMs which were a) stable and b) awful, full of flaws and sloppy design details that would probably get an Apple dev fired).
Ali Ba's CM7.1 changed my opinion on hobby ROMs; it's so polished, I think HTC should OTA it as the official ROM for all Legend users. Thanks again.
I haven't tried zeuba's ROM yet (still too experimental for me), but I hope this will lead to a high-quality ICS ROM, too. No idea if/how/when it will be made official by CM.
(note to self: gotta send that dude a donation, he's really spending a lot of time, and making serious progress; good for all of us).
Does anyone know if something (drivers, ram,...) fundamentally compromises ICS on Legend (like "max 10 apps installable"), or could it become really slick (like ICS on One V) if a reasonable amount of work is put into it?

If we are using kang rom it is safe ?
Kang doesn't mean stolen. You can't steal open source code...
Kang means it was compiled by someone that isn't part of the official team/the person who made the code & isn't officially supported. So like when people say "Self-Kang" it means that they made the code themselves, but it's not officially supported by CM.

KANG does mean stolen code m8, it's a very old term, and it's not something specific to android or open source software.
I'll try to find a article for you.

This is from another forum:
This is the definition you would look for in Wikipedia Kang - A term used for stealing others intellectual property and claiming it as your own. (ie. When a developer uses another developer's work, and then publishes the end product as their own.)
Like building a cyanogen rom from source and making small edits and redistributing it. Not exactly as bad as it sounds like the definition suggests... sometimes, it it.

Or...why not just look here on XDA, in their WIKI, and see how XDA defines it?

As mentioned, you can't kang open source'd code.
You can, however, fail to attribute that code, and that's generally what kang'd refers to now.
[nothing personal, just incorrectly using kanged is starting to pet peeve me almost to the point of the rampant incorrect usage of bricked. using 'vector' by a layman (ie, non military tactician or graphic designer) to make things sound more sophisticated is a close 3rd]

[Q] Any plan for official AOKP?

I am not trying to be rude, but curious about it. When can I expect AOKP officially support AT&T SGSII? Probably I9100 has to be first officially supported by AOKP, then AT&T version will be supported next.
I know task650 keeps very wonderful AOKP rom. But one feature I miss from official version is keeping old ones. I think task650 updates about every two days, and it is hard to follow his every move.

Nah
AT&T version means all the bloatware included. AT&T is working on a ICS version for our phones, however the guy they hired to do it has probably never touched a phone before and is the only one working on - hence the reason it is taking so long to get released. They are more worried about new phones then old ones, and this will always be the case.
I also don't think AT&T will ever release a Vanilla build of Android for any phone. Heck even look at the Nexus, even that had some AT&T stuff in it.
I'm pretty sure that the OP meant that he wishes the i777 was officially supported by the AOKP team on their website, which has nothing to do with AT&T.
That said:
1. No one knows when if/when it will be officially supported. I think the AOKP team would need to own the phone first. Regardless, I think Task does a way better job maintaining his build, fixing issues faster than the AOKP team.
2. If you need an archive of older versions, just go to Task's repository: http://goo.im/devs/task650/aokp/i777
I don't believe the AOKP team will ever support the SGS2. If they want to, they already would. Right now, task's AOKP is an official.
Yeah I'd have to agree. Tasks version will be as official as it gets. I won't complain!

Yes, but he doesn't support them. I think what he's wishing for is a datum build, a build that it is kosher(or even expected) for people to continue using after newer builds are released. Such a milestone build would be supported until the next milestone is released.
This isn't how Task operates though, and it's his rom, his rules. To him every build is a milestone build.

Every build is stable. There are really no major issues or Task wouldn't release it. Minor bugs always are gonna exist. So pick the latest release ans just stick with it for a while. Bam. The Atrix will likely not get an official CM9 build until/unless ICS for the Atrix (containing the necessary binary drivers, which are proprietary) is released. The unofficial ports have to make do without them, cannibalizing code and parts from other phones in order to make it work, which is why they still have stability issues (though they do work most of the time). When ICS is released (yes, I said when; unlike others, I have faith that it will be), we'll likely see a flurry of CM9 development from the Atrix Dev Team.
OK cool. I've read that it's gonna be Q3. Which is sometime between now and September, correct?

cm9 update
I recently flashed my first rom with cm9 6.0.9.1. I am very pleased with the look, feel and functionality of this ROM. Congrats to jokersax and all who had a hand in this. As I am new at this I have one question. If I try to upgrade to 0.7.0.0 will I need to wipe or can I just flash it. I installed the gapps separately and did not wipe and it worked fine. I do remember reading somewhere during my search for knowledge on this subject that for small updates you don't need to wipe. Not sure how reliable tha info is. Just want to make sure before I end up with a paper weight.
