General Lithium Ion Battery Information
^^This link includes stuff about charging, including trickle charging aka SBC (Why NOT to use it, or at your own peril)
My tips for good battery life:
Tips for Non-Rooted users
1. Turn off all radios when not in use.
(gps, Bluetooth, wifi, data, 4g) Use a widget like the default HTC power widget, Switchpro, or a similar app from the market. The 3D's updated Sense 3.0 allows users to access these radios and other settings from the notification pulldown menu, , under the "Quick Settings" tab. The radios of the phone draw power if on even if the user isn't actually utilizing the radio's functions. A radio searching for signal (if you are in a low-signal area) drains more than a radio with good signal, so again, turn 'em off when you aren't using 'em.
To manually turn off radios without a toggle, go to menu>settings>wireless & networks.
Wifi uses less battery than 3G, so use wifi when you can.
2. Juice Defender is one of my favorite apps. Basically it controls your data for you to maximize life.
More explanations are on their page, search it on the market for free, or upgrade for more features.
Here are my settings for it: Click me
Note that for me at least, juice defender likes to deny apps data privileges whether you allow them or not, so screen on = data on works best for me.
3. I love live wallpapers, and I’ve always been a fan of pixel zombies, but they are really only good for showing off due to their battery drain.
4. Go to menu<settings<wireless & networks<mobile networks<disable always on mobile data.
Product F(RED) said:
To clarify, "Always On Mobile Data", when turned off, lets the 3G modem go to sleep after the screen has been off for 5 minutes. It doesn't interfere with anything like email or any other application that requires an internet connection at that moment because it turns on on-demand rather than being on all the time and wasting battery.

Click to collapse
5. Set your screen timeout to something that fits you.
This will prevent your phone from staying on when you don’t manually turn off the screen. Also with this, manually turn off your screen when you’re done with your phone.
Menu>Settings>Display>Screen Timeout
I use 30 seconds.
6. Task killers used to be the shiz, but no longer.
Here is the ultimate, in depth, graphically assisted, explanation by the famous Fresh ROM's chef, Flipz. Shortly, in light of recent testing, really don’t do anything but force apps that the android OS needed to be open, and thus didn’t close, to re-open. So try not using them, unless for stuff like trying to figure out why your phone isn’t sleeping with system panel. You really won’t notice a performance difference, and the adverse effects you aren’t seeing will stop
+=+ A good alternative is the application SystemPanel Pro. It has a free version, but I highly reccomend purchasing the paid app. It basically monitors everything going on with your phone's usage both in real time an in terms of usage history. If your battery is draiging fast, it tells you what app was doing it, how much it was doing it, and allows you to stop it.
7. I'm sure you have all heard around that your phone isn't "sleeping".
This is referring to the phone's "awake" time, hence the name. When you go to Menu>Settings>About Phone>Battery, you can compare the two numbers, "up time" vs. "awake time." Generally, up time refers to the amount of time since the last reboot. The "awake time" is how long the screen has been active. The problem is, a lot of the time, due to the endless possibilities of inconsistencies between apps/ROMs/kernels/phones, the phone will not go to "sleep", drawing power proportionate to the screen being in use when it reality the phone is sitting idle.
If you compare these numbers, and they are the same, or if you note the difference, turn off the screen for a minute, then re-check and they are the same, then your phone is not sleeping.
One solution is to reboot.
Usually, SystemPanel will show an app that has gone "rouge" and is keeping your phone awake.
-This is done by hitting menu>settings>monitoring enabled. Then after some time has passed, ht menu>monitoring>history>change tab to top apps, and see if anything is above, say, 2-4%.
Uninstall applications/reinstalling them slowly, checking after every install to see what is causing it is one tedious but surefire solution.
Lastly,
Follow these steps that I have discovered almost always work.
1. Reboot phone.
2. Instantly upon reboot, as soon as you gain control, open up some type of monitor/taskkiller
3. "kill all" tasks on startup; about 5 times in quick succession should do the trick.
4. Turn off the screen and leave it for about five minutes.
5. Check the up time v. awake time and see if they are the same.
6. If they are, repeat steps 1-5. If they are different, you are good.
8. Our good friend sn0b0ard noticed that the 3D's battery contacts *could* be problematic.
Here's a link to his thread, but basically he explains how the leads to the battery can be kind of loose, which potentially can cause random reboots (if the contacts separate) and/or slow charging. The fix is simple: slide some paper or a piece of a rubber band between the battery and the wall opposite the leads. Toss him a thanks if it helps you out
9. Apps and Combinations to watch out for!
-Facebook for HTC Sense- Tries to sync live feed all the time, HIGHLY recommend unchecking this box, as it creates a massive draw on data
-Skype- This app reportedly (I've seen it myself) likes to sync random data and open up the network for fun. Sign out of app when not in use to fix
Root Tips LIVE
Tips for Rooted users:
1. Try out custom kernels.
By going to the EVO 3D Android Development section of the forums, you can see all of the different kernels being developed. These allow for all kinds of modifications like underclocking the CPU and undervolting, both of which save battery. To see how to use them, read the FAQ's in each thread's OPs.
Here is a great guide to custom kernel's by mroneeyedboh.
2. Use SetCPU in compliance with whatever your custom kernel allows.
This site will explain the basics of SetCPU: http://www.setcpu.com/
-Profiles from SetCPU should usually involve these for battery life optimization:
-Screen off at the minimum clock speed for both, with the max raised on level if sluggishness is apparent
-A temperature greater than “X”
-General power related profiles that lower cpu speed at lower battery levels
-Here are my SetCPU profiles: 1 , 2 , 3
-My profiles change a lot as time goes by, because different kernel creators recommend different settings. I suggest reading up on whatever kernel you are using to gather settings.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
NOTES:
*Some apps or processes begin to run at startup and keep the phone awake. These apps are not detected by things like spare parts or system panel, unless sometimes represented in the "system" process, in which case its usage will be unusually high.
This shouldn't take more than three repeats, and if it does, you need to factory reset, and slowly add apps back to see what's causing the problem.
___--- When it comes to actually "calibrating" one's battery, there are a couple of methods floating around. The method I first learned is to charge the phone all the way, boot into recovery immediately, and "wipe battery stats". Then reboot quickly, and run your phone all the way to death without charging it, then charge it all the way without interrupting it, and you should be good to go. Do this when changing ROMs/kernels for best results.
----When it comes to people claiming 20 plus hours of moderate/heavy use out of their current setup or other ridiculous absurdities, consider my position: No matter what you do, the Evo battery is the Evo battery. You can tweak it and customize it with kernels, ROMs, and settings, but none of that will turn it into a car battery. The main problem (besides a false sense of pride) that leads to these reports is the misunderstanding of what the usage levels are, so here’s my best summary:
* *Light usage – Phone screen actually on for maybe 0-2 hours. Things like a few texts, some emails, 20 minutes web browsing, etc.
* *Moderate usage – You watched a few youtube videos or similar apps, sustained web browsing, hundreds of texts, some games. Hours range from about 2-5 of screen on
* *Heavy usage – LOTS of video watching and games, 3D pics or video, or some high def gaming/movie watching for at least an hour to an hour and a half in total, with lots of emails and texts, browsing, and other app shenanigans. 5+ hours
*I’m sure everyone doesn’t agree with all these numbers, but this is most likely a good average of what powerusers think. All specific hourage may vary due to differences in phones, batteries, ROMs, and kernels… Which also means that most battery comparisons are pointless; it’s only what you can improve on that counts!
I’ll update this whenever I see good stuff, people remind me, or I remember/come across things I do.
Hope it helps everybody!

How are you charging it? USB to computer charging leads to high wake times. Any rouge apps?
Getting hot is normal this early on.

You need to update, I know everyone is scared about not getting root, but without the update you will have battery issues. Keep fighting on HTC facebook page, we will get the unlock soon enough
So basically the tip to good battery life is to essentially turn your smartphone into a dumbphone and pretty much cripple it?!

The tips are all optional. If you can't live without live wallpapers, then by all means, use them. However, many users don't know about radios, etc. Very few people need bluetooth, 4G, and wifi all at the same time while the screen is off. I believe that part of having a smartphone is the luxury of being able to make informed decisions about the functions of your device to find your own individual perfect balance between performance and battery life.

I'm seeking more clarification about the mobile data always on.
So if I turn that feature off, and after five minutes the radio to into sleep mode, and someone sends me an email (gmail push), then I will receive that email?

Not necessarily. You can still make a call or two, maybe write a few smses but basicly don't use your phone and it will have amazing battery life.
I don't have 3d just yet but I'm guessing with that big of a battery (1730mAh) it should easily go through at least 10-15h with moderate to heavy usage.

Hey everyone, I just got my Flyer (Evo View), so I expect I'll be frequenting these forums often. I am just wondering everyone's general impressions of their device so far?
I broke down and bought one after months of waiting for a honeycomb 7" device... and so far I'm satisfied. The device seems snappy, battery life is decent, and its the perfect size. I got GV up and running, installed SIPDroid, which works fine for calls, the only issue I have seen is that while 'sleeping', it seems to turn off data connections as well, not sure what is going on there.
I'm still getting used to the size, this is replacing my old phone after all (HTC Magic) so its quite a size difference.
I see that temp root has occured, hopefully a full root will soon follow.
Any recommendations on a good case?
I believe by default that's set to turn off radio/wifi/etc. overnight. Go into your settings and look under battery or something like that. It's a power save option that I actually really like. It extends the battery life by so much if you just set it to turn off when you're sleeping. I've had 2 or 3 days usage out of my Flyer with moderate usage during the day.
Thanks tom_m, that seems to have fixed it. Not sure if I'll turn that back on or not yet...
What is a good data tracking app that is accurate on the flyer? I saw 3g Watchdog, but people say its not accurate on all devices....

I would also recommend going to settings > Wi-FI settings > hit menu > Advanced > Wi-Fi sleep policy and set to never sleep
also, I always check best wifi performance.
I am also leaving my phone for this as my new "big a** phone" as most people call it. I have a sip account and I have Csipsimple, which I like, but I've been using groove IP with much success. I like it because it shows my google voice number when I call someone.
3G watchdog has worked perfectly for me so far. I am using the evo view as well. It matches sprint's readings exactly, as far as I can tell.
I am considering using this device for work as my "notepad". I envision bringing it to meeting to take notes and at times take photos of chalkboards, etc and write notes over of the image. For those of you that own one, do you think this device can handle a daily workload of heavy note taking or is that feature more for occasional use?

I made another thread about this, but have you noticed 3g running slow? I did some research, found out it is a bug. I have decided to take it back because of this since 90% of my time on the tablet is using 3g. Being limited to .10 Mbps makes it unusable.
When the fix comes out, maybe I will revisit the Flyer, or maybe something else will be out...not sure.

Just something to try if you're using the perma-temp root. Grab Autokiller and set it to ultimate (and just for ****s and gigggles, I did the UI optimization that increases homescreen events to 60), and you'll immediately notice less RAM usage and further battery life.
It's pretty awesome
And no, Autokiller is not a task manager (although it can be used as one).
Findings:
250,275,300 Seems to be the most stable if you multitask a lot.
300,325,350 is for those of you who are like me and don't need to multitask (single app at a single time kind of user).
You can go higher, but be careful. For a test, I like to set it higher, turn off the screen, wait a bit for the minfree settings to close off apps, and then text yourself from another phone or from GVoice. If you recieve it, those values are good (depending on your phone usage). For me, as long as the messaging app can stay open and not get killed off, I'm perfectly happy.
Also, at the second set of values (the higher ones), I'm noticing a distinct speed and smoothenss increase in the Rosie carousel as well as the notifications pulldown.

Well, right now, I have about 320 MB of free RAM. I get that "free RAM" is a performance myth, and that unused RAM is useless. But the benefit for me is less battery is being used.
this is good info, thanks
Keep in mind that the higher you go, the less stable multitasking will be. I'm kind of a "single app at a single time" kind of user, so I can afford to go quite high. For instance, if you set it really high, and start listening to music, and then go into your Gmail app, there's a chance that the music app might automatically be killed off.

Just a heads up, sometimes the perma-temp root doesn't always hold after a reboot. If it doesn't, your autokiller settings won't work until you re-root.

Is there a way to disable 4G, so the phone uses 3G instead and uses less battery or even better 2G? It seems as if the option is not on the Amaze as it was on the G2.
I have speed rom 4.0 I think. Gonna put 6.5 on soon.
Also is there a way to make your battery last longer if you game alot or watch movies?
You can try buying an Anker Battery for your Amaze, I got one off eBay and it's a noticeable difference (nothing huge though)
You can try using an app called Widgetsoid to toggle your 4G/3G but I'm not 100% sure it'll work with every ROM out there so give it a try

4G is 3G. 4G is just a marketing term. It's just a faster 3G network.
You can switch to 2G in the Mobile Network Menu.
Turn off your data, lower brightness, turn off Bluetooth, GPS. There are a lot of things you can do to save battery.

Well "faster 3g" might be picking up more battery than "regular 3g". I have Simple Mobile, so their "SIMPLE 3g speed" is not exactly the fastest. Seems like "fast EDGE" speed to me.
My brightness always goes up by itself even when I turn it down for some odd reason. I have my data and wifi off when I don't use it. I rarely use GPS and bluetooth, so most of the time they are off. I don't use that JuiceDefender crap cuz it doesn't do much. Doesn't it slow down your phone?

I don’t know the good settings to undervolt. I’m scared about screwing up my CPU. You can choose kernels to use?! I didn’t know that (I thought a ROM had a specific kernel requirement), but wouldn’t WiFi be broken or something.

just under volt by -12.5 using System Tuner on a good kernel...
there are basically 3 (or 4 kernels) for ICS
stock/HTC
faux http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1359951&highlight=kernel
Kozmik http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1767572&highlight=kernel
Nightmare http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1762687&highlight=kernel
all of them should have no problems with wifi or anything (well, some have "beta" versions that might not have wifi working). each of them implements different things to help give you performance or battery or undervolting etc... try each of them and see...
If you can't find it in the settings you can do the following...
Open your Dialer ( yes, like you're going to call someone)
Dial *#*#4636#*#* then pick Phone Info. Scroll Down and find Something that says "GSM Auto (PRL)" click on it. Now you can change that to "GSM only" and you will have just 2G speeds. It will save battery life if that what youre after.

It will set it to 2g while screen off, and turn 3g on after screen on or unlock.. so if you have weaker signal it will absolutely increase battery life, but 2g uses less battery anyways.. there is about 2-3 seconds after screen on before it switches back to 3g(4g, whatever). I've been using it for days, I am happy.
Here are a few tips that have really improved my battery life:
Disabled the com.sonyericsson.android.wakelock feature :good:
Not using the stock charger. Used my BB/Samsung charger. Quick charge=Quick Drain !!!
Closing all the running apps before I sleep. :good:
Disable "Auto-Sync" :good:
Delete unwaned apps which I downloaded when I first got the phone (Trust me, there were many)
Use my 3G on an hourly basis to check if I received any messages on Watsapp/FB/Twitter. then disable it. :good:
Force stop "google services framework". :good::good::good:
Install "Memory Booster" from play. Crack available on appxt as well
Keep the brightness at 20%. :good:
No launcher.
Upgraded to 6.1.A.2.45. :good::good:
Disable "Bravia Engine" - There's absolutely no diff in resolution but huge gain on battery life. U can switch it back on incase u wanna watch a movie. :good::good:
I am an Newbie, no any comments and thanks would be appreciated
1. You're clearly rooted. You can't just access .wakeup
2. You can't remove stock apps without root.
3. You can't remove the launcher without root. And, how could you use the phone?
4. Google Services Framework are vital to Android, if I'm correct.
5. Please don't mention cracks. It's not allowed.
Welcome to XDA, but just be careful talking about cracks and warez. They're banned here.
Switch of that FB you're getting 3x battery life :cyclops:
What's the point in having a smart phone, if you disable 3G most of the time, I leave it on all day, and can get a day at least out of the battery.

You can in settings. Apps. All.
But it's all pretty sh*t advice that doesn't make sense and is pointless stupid to suggest
I.e quick charge equals quick drain. A battery will only ask for the current it needs to charge. Then up over a certain percentage it asks for less and less to get full. But once fully charged it's fully charged. The only real thing that damages a battery is charging it too slow all the time say with a 500mah charger as its asking for more and can't get it
The biggest battery killer is the screen and the data. If you really don't need email, Facebook notification etc then of course turn it off. Turn the screen down to the lowest percentage you're happy with and if you're out and about turn off wifi so its not continuously searching

If you really want a better battery life, and hated the stock ROM, you're free to install different kernels and ROMs, (unlocked BL only)
Just search and try all of 'em. (but with extra precautions of course!) There's so many devs here (many thanks to them) who makes custom kernels that support undervolting and overclocking... if you're rooted, you can set a minimum frequency to your processor when it's in standby or screen off. Mine goes from the stock 384Mhz to just 84Mhz on SSpeed V7 custom kernel. you don't need 384Mhz when it's just standing by and waiting to receive SMS or calls right? And once i opened my screen on, it will run on normal frequencies (384Mhz - 1620Mhz) (mine's overclocked a bit)...
Search XDA. and I'm sure you'll find something that'll suit your needs...

Will I appreciate the post, I would ask what this service does and how disabling it will effect the battery. Sure its name has the word wakelock but that can be refering to the Quick Camera function which wakes the phone up to take a picture.
