Since there's no Q&A forum for this phone (yet), I'll try in here.
I've noticed this morning, when listening to my music through my earphones, that the volume tends to subtly fluctuate - perhaps slightly reducing the volume on the louder parts of songs.
I don't like this (it's not even at max volume either) - is there a way to stop it? I've looked in the music player's settings and also the sound settings for the phone itself, but no luck.
This is my first Samsung Andrdoid so if I'm missing something common to these, feel free to hit me with the noob stick
You've got the SGS II already?
You are probably in the wrong forum, mate.
Nope, he is not.
Some lucky dawgs got it through P4U.
I got it yesterday afternoon from Phones4U, although I think I've sorted this problem out now. I think it was related to the bass enhancement setting, because I disabled that and it's not doing it anymore (or it's no longer noticeable).

Big question how do you find the sound quality what headphones are you using? Thanks
Swyped from my Desire HD using XDA App
I'm using Soundmagic PL30's and the sound is great, although I did notice a bit of crappines when I had the bass enhancement on and turned it right up. Now I have it on Auto/Rock EQ with no effects - perfect for my needs.
I've yet to test the phone's speaker.
I don't have the phone and only played with android briefly before, but in theory, what you are describing is known as "normalizing", where the device tries to make the songs sound as even as possible. This results in capped louder parts and sometimes increased quieter parts. Is there any option like this in the equalizer?
May I say... Congratulation and I HATE YOU... J.K...
Post up some more details of what you DISLIKE of it so far

Actually PL30 are slightly bass heavy themselves and at best average if sgs2 sound is even somewhat like sgs. If u really want something better without breaking bank get brainwavz M1 or nuforce ne6 if you prefer boomier bass. This phone does deserve more than PL30.
PL30 respond very badly to presets on SGS1 as well.
Magically posted from thin air!
Aw, I only bought these a couple of weeks ago!
I'll bear your recommendations in mind though, thanks.
Actually, the earphones that came with it look better (not the awful standard things you usually get). I probably won't open them though.
Edit: no normalization option, Deathangel. It sounds ok now anyway

Really? The Yamaha DAC that was included can actually best the Wolfson 8994? I've been torn between the SGSII and the Sensation for quite a while now. This tips the scales in the GSII's favor.
P.S.- How does it compare to an SGS with the Supercurio Voodoo mod?
It's very close mate. I haven't done a proper comparison between them but I get a full range from Bass, mid and treble using PowerAMP to listen to music with the SGS II. I'd say it maybe slightly better than the SGS with Voodoo if I had to chose.

I'm not Hemorrhoidsnet, I just found this video on a Dutch blogging site.
This seems the best thread to ask...
I'm looking for the best earbuds I can get for £30 or less (preferably less of course) for the highest quality listening. I'm hoping to use the SGSII in place of my iTouch since it can play FLAC natively!
Any help/suggestions is greatly appreciated!
Hi All,
I've doing a lot of research on DAC for this phone and still cannot find an answer!?
I was going for Samsung GS2 originally, but found out it has crappy Yamaha DAC running inside. So I'm thinking getting this phone or the upcoming Nexus hoping for a better listening pleasure..
Does anyone knows what DAC is this phone using??
Thanks in advance for the replies
http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Motorola-Droid-RAZR-Teardown/7048/3 lists most internal parts for the RAZR. The phone has great audio quality for movies/music, tbh I wouldn't even worry about it.
Having both the International RAZR & GSII, RAZR trumps the SII for audio quality by a fair margin. Surprisingly, the audio 'enhancement' options that are so often terrible on phones aren't unbearable. I'd not read anything about them prior to getting the device, so their existence and decency were both nice surprises.

I've tested SGS2 vs RAZR vs ATRIX and I can say, I can't hear any really noticeable difference between RAZR and ATRIX, while SGS2 is a little crappier.
Anyway, RAZR's sound output seems good. The speaker is really, really, really loud... and with my earpiece the music experience is good. Obviously it's not comparable to my X-Fi, but anyway, hey! It's a PDA!

Presently have a Galaxy Nexus & an S2. Both are fine phones in their own right but....
I don't think there all that good at audio reproduction..
I want to use my flac music files with kplisch earphones with Poweramp.

a HTC maybe? they have beats audio
Sensation, Sensation XE, One X, S, V...
You should install Equalizer on whatever phone you get. It has a system wide EQ that doesn't require root.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.smartandroidapps.equalizer
I'm not really sure what Beats Audio does, I imagine its just an equalizer. I imagine the beats headphones are a total scam as they are made by Monster the same company that rips people off by selling them overpriced HDMI cables saying they are somehow better.
Rezound or One X

You do know Texas instruments bought burr brown a few years ago? On that note I prefer ti's sound chip over wolfson's slightly. The sound is cleaner and more balanced. The wolfson sounds great but has muddier bass.

I'm in the UK so it'd have to be a model that works over here.
I've heard that beats audio doesn't make that much difference & doesn't really improve the sound
Try the Sony Ericsson smart phones as they produce the best quality audio. Like Xperia, Walkman Live, etc...
Stay away from anything with beats. The headphones are overpriced rubbish (you have your own anyway) and the sowftware is just a glorified EQ which in my opinion is far to exaggerated and detracts from the sound quality. I'm not sure which phones have the best DAC chips but I bet it would be one of the Sony phones marketed for music playback. if you really wanted to figure it out you could go through each prospective phones spec sheets and compare the data.
Or you could do what I did and accept that phones arent very good at audio playback and get yourself a decent music player. i went and bought sansa clip which is so much better than my galaxy s2 at music playback

Say NO to beats audio - it's overpriced and you get nothing special in terms of hardware. Almost every HTC's are SoC and are all the same with audio hardware.
I own HD2 and sound quality is very good, though far from superior. Some samsung's are good too, few motorola's have excellent audio quality.
I've always thought beats to be a gimmick.
Is there anyway of finding out what DAC is in a smart phone. I tried google but didn't get very far.
Whats the new HTX One X like for music with beats off of course.
Any other recommendation's would be cool.
Get the Galaxy S. Remember: only the original Galaxy S and its variants (captivate, vibrant, epic touch something). Its Wolfson DAC is awesome, it's even more powerful with Voodoo Sound. And with a decent audio player (like PowerAmp) = perfect.

SGS Plus also uses a Wolfson DAC like the original SGS, but not exactly the same one. Supercurio (Voodoo sound developer) said there will be no Voodoo Sound for the SGS+ because of that.
WOW. Do not listen to ANYTHING people say regarding Beats and HTC. It's just a terrible equalizer that bloats the bass, and shatters the mids and don't even ask about highs. To get straight to the point: no phone currently out is good source material. At all. You should get a portable amp, like say, the E7 or E17 and run with that. Beats is THE ABSOLUTE WORST thing you can go for right now.
That being said, I suppose the Galaxy S is best for your needs. I would hazard a guess that most Sony phone have decent source components in them as well.
Seriously can't believe people are recommending the One X or the Rezound. If it's just because Beats, that's silly. Has NOTHING to do with the quality of the source components. Beats Audio is a terrible program and nothing more (outside of the terrible earbuds and terrible cans)

Do installation of beats audio on rooted phone makes it really work? Mean does it improves the sound quality like the original beats audio phones?
yes.but u need a beatz headset.it also works with other headsets.but not that effective.
Yea
The result is different with different device. This app really have system files of beats , i open and extract this archive and found folder asset where system files like bin , etc , lib.. and then i copy to my mobile ,sound fells good. It have just only little bit clarity and sound was abit louder with my Samsung Stock Headset
It will be great to buy the Beats Headset

Well I've tried it on many of my Droids and it does seem to bring about a change especially in bass and treble terms . The difference is not too noticeable with oem headsets or so it feels to me but on others , a few premium ones I've tried it is noticeable indeed

It doesn't make such a big difference unless used with high end headphones where it does slightly improve the base but most of the time you won't notice the difference.

Tested back to back with my wife's V20 using the included AKG earbuds using a high fidelity flac file of the Allman Brothers song Old Friend, which is two acoustic guitars with strong vocals. Night and day, there was far more detail and less hiss using the V20. Tested also with hih quality flac files of Metallica and Andrea Bocelli. Same. Far more detail.
Used Poweramp Alpha with high fidelity output enabled. Nothing scientific, just back to hack.
I mostly like the Note 8 otherwise, but for sound quality alone I think I'll return for the V30 when it comes out. Haven't Used the S Pen hardly at all, which surprised me. For me, audio quality is important.
Just one man''s opinion.

So what was your purpose of buying a Note then if you had no intention of using the pen? Seems you bought it for all the wrong reasons and decided to post here to get others to sway away from the Note 8.
Just information others might find useful sir. Not trying to sway anyone in any direction.
You are comparing a phone that was made for quality audio to a phone that wasn't.
Now, LG V20 stylus is inferior compared to the Notes.
"audio quality is important"... what the Note 8 could do was known before you ordered it. Sorry but all one had to do is search and then look at the history of Galaxy phones in regards to sound. For me the word 'NOTE" says it all. Now.. again for ME... MUSIC? Yeah.. not going with any phone
After my Note 7 Fiasco I got the LG v20. The sound was good on it. But I don't listen to anything on my phones anyway. The phone it's self was ok at best. The LG v30 will be the same. Lg is incapable of making a phone with the build quality like the Note. I can tell by looking at the v30 that it is going to feel cheap.

Opinions are always welcome but your opinion is of the "duh really" variety. If you want the best sound get a V10, V20, or V30 when it arrives. For that matter I'll trade you my U11 straight up, if music is that important to you.
Enjoy your Note8.

When I first receive my Note 8. I was despised with how it sounds.
I think you want to make your own adapt sound setting first. only then it sounds good. really good.
Listen with Tidal and Neuron. boy. it sounds so good!!
Adapt sound on note 8 is much more better than adapt sound on my last note 3
Yeah amhave to agree with everyone else. If audio is important, LG V10/30 is for you.
Comparing quad dacs to what Samsung offers is not an even match.
If audio is important, i would advise you to get a separate audio device. I have note 8 as my daily driver for work, personal and games. I own a DP-CM1X for audio with 2.5mm balanced cable to my im03.

I have the Note FE, Note 8 and LG V20.
Note 8 is much better than the Note FE but no way as good as the V20 when you use 24 bit music (Lossless). But I believe most consumers use streaming services which use high but rate MP3s so most so consumers would be happy with the Note 8. I am not which is why I use a dedicated Sony NW ZX300 DAP.
