The only release is the Soak test. I'm sure most of the bugs well be taken care of in the final release. Only idiots nit pick a beta.

I flashed back to GB in anticipation of the OTA this week and I absolutely hate my phone now. Doesn't help I forgot to backup my TiBu before I did and now it just sucks. Can't wait for the ICS OTA so I can get my phone back to that rockin' state I had it in. And then see what new ROMs pop up.

i personally like it, not gonna switch back. although the scrolling for me leaves a wee bit more to be desired. hopefully they fix that in the official release.

yea i know what you mean with the scrolling, then again on gingerbread when i scroll real fast to a contact, it would over scroll lol so i kinda like the new scroll action, but like i said, other than that...its pretty F'in sweet and have no desire to go back...
quick question for anyone that might know though...i used Matts Utility 1.7 to upgrade to the official .211 update....will i be able to either get the OTA or at least jump back to stock .181 and then manually update to the OTA ??? if so, can anyone and everyone that knows the simplest and safest way for a noob lol...i did use Matts Utility 1.6 to revert back to my stock .181 earlier today before i upgraded and that seemed fine....will this still work if im on the .211 leak ? any and all answers much appreciated!

and i think i should be slapped with a few more thanks...especially from the testers and developers of this amazing upgrade!

You won't be able to go back to GB, at least for the foreseeable future. With that said, if they do actually make changes from 211 leak/soak to the OTA, then what will have to happen if you're on the 211 leak is basically we will have to install the OTA like every other leak. Then once the OTA is installed we just have to wait for VZW to push the next update and it will update like any other OTA. I doubt they change anything however. The bugs that do exist are minor/few and far between.

It's not a soak test release stop spreading that misinformation.
It's being sent out in limited quantities...that doesn't mean it's a stress test. It means they don't want to bog down their servers by sending out a few million updates at once and having people complain. I wasn't part of *any* stress/soak test list and I got the update.

You think the soak June 14 build will be the OTA I don't think so.
Sent from my Soaked RAZR.

Hello again, everyone.
Later tonight we'll end our soak test. A phased roll out of the software will begin soon.
We are deeply grateful for the feedback and information provided. This was by far the largest soak we've ever attempted. We didn't really know what it would be like to have so many participants. We learned a lot and have already figured out some better ways to do things in the future. We appreciate you hanging in there as as we ploughed through all the information you provided.
To those of you who did not get the update or were unable to access the private community -- your experience has also helped us find and correct issues. We'll be better next time based on your feedback.
Please remember that the processes, information and communications shared during this soak test are confidential and not to be shared outside of this private community.
However, we do hope you will return to the public RAZR/RAZR Maxx community -- here and on other sites -- and help your fellow owners make the transition to Ice Cream Sandwich.
We will leave the private community up for a short time, but once you log out it will no longer be available to you. Soon we will close the threads to comments. We will continue to work with some of you and reach out if we need additional information.
Thank you so, so much. Hope to see you again in soaks. We rely on your energy, intelligence and enthusiasm.
- Matt

2.2 update..

So apparently the myTouch 3G is getting an official 2.2 Froyo update. If so, then what's stopping us from getting it? Correct me if I'm wrong but don't we have basically the same or better hardware than it? Or is it a choice of Verizon's whether or not to give us the update?
You can read more about the MT3G announcement here http://www.droiddog.com/android-blog/2010/06/mytouch-3g-will-see-2-2-soon-not-2-1/
average folks working for free in their spare time are going to take a lot longer then a group of 20 or so software developers at htc being paid full time. so... really chill out, the devs are doing the best they can.
it still is good news though, once it's released i dont think the devs will have any problem at all porting it over.
EDIT: okay, i might've jumped to the wrong conclusion after re-reading your post. I'm just so used to so much bad mouthing and drama that I guess I got carried away.
Anyway, Verizon is really slow at sending out updates. they constantly check and recheck and tell the companies to change so many things that it's really complicated to get them out as quick as t-mobile does. if HTC is making one for the MT3G (hero), there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that they're working on one for the eris as well, they probably just havent announced it because they are waiting for verizon to greenlight it.

I think Verizon will roll out the 2.2 by the end of Q3 seeing as the just popped the official 2.1 out(which from what i have seen is very buggy)
Even if they dont, when the official Froyo for 1.2/Fender is OTA'd the Eris port will fallow VERY shortly(since the 1.2 is basically and Eris in a Magic case)
BTW Hero CDMA=Sprints version of the Magic
Hero GSM= is Tmobile UK "G2"
Just sayin'

Yeah I wasn't badmouthing. I hate all the drama in these forums lately. I know the devs are working on a 2.2 port, but I was just stating that if the MT3G can get it what's stopping us from getting it? I'm hoping Verizon will greenlight it if they are working on a 2.2 update. And if they aren't we'll always have a dev who will make a rom for us.
2.2 will probably be available for rooted Eris within hours of source being posted, though I do hope Verizon doesn't drag their feet for the sake of those unwilling or unable to root.

Agreed. Plus I would think it'd be better to have the 2.2 that was made for the eris to make the rom, rather than just porting it so everything will work. Although it may be just as easy for some people.

From some articles I have read I'm pretty sure we will get an official 2.2 update. It was stated that the jit that is used in 2.2 will actually help to speed up older devices such as ours. So I'm going to keep my fingers crossed and if not then I hope that we get root for leak.
Will it be able to root from 2.1? Maybe get the leaked users out of the gutter?

it's a real good chance that the hboot for a 2.2 rom will be a higher number, so IF verizon/htc go forward with a 2.2 update for the eris, and we can get it rooted? leakers might be able to root.
Lets hope so. I would so love to root my phone. No more jumping the gun for me. I'll be waiting for an official ota or root. No more leaks for me.

HTC Sense is stopping it. Number one reason why I cried when I found out the Nexus one wasnt coming to Big Red
Incredible users will get 2.2 soon enough, just like HTC EVO users.
SenseUI will be just fine with 2.2. Will JITs be modified or adapted for it?
Time will tell.
JIT's are exactly what make it so fast

[Q] Benefits of rooting

The greatest feature of the AOS is that we are able to root our phones thanks to some very helpful people. I’ve temp rooted my Rezound because I am waiting on the official Android 4.0 from Verizon. But we’re in the middle of the 2nd quarter and I’m starting to get impatient. I have the Eris, and I can easily install ROMs on it. I also have the Driod 2 which is a pain to install ROMs. For those who have rooted their phones and place ICS on their phone, are you worried about something going wrong with the phone and not being able to return it? Should I sack up and root it? Or would you recommend that I remain on the sidelines until its safe?
ICS Rom .:. Flash. One. Now.

(We're still in Q1 unitl March 31st! And I'm running an ICS rom, alternating between Ineffabilis-Deus v1.02 and Senseless 4.0.3 v1.0.) Well first off, the official ICS from Verizon looks to be a long ways away, so if you want ICS now, I'd definitely flash an ICS rom. And no, I'm not worried at all about something malfunctioning with my phone and not being able to return it. You can almost always return to stock, so as long as you can do that, you're safe. And besides, most of the Verizon reps have no idea what an unlocked bootloader is/does, let alone know how to check for one. So you should be able to return your beast (Rezound) to Verizon if something goes wrong with it. There's my two cents.
Final Verdict: Flash an ICS rom. Whether it's Senseless or has Sense 3.6, that's up to you.
Hope I helped!
Waiting until probably May or so is not an option especially when we have such nice ROMs coming out now.
I'm running Joel's ICS Sense ROM and it's one of the nicely polished ROMs I've ever used.
I also used the Desense tool to get Nova Launcher so it looks a little bit like ICS and I gotta say, I'm extremely happy where I'm at right now. Go for it.
I say go for it too and I'm not even running ICS yet.
I am waiting for my favorite themes etc to become available for ICS before switching and I'm in no hurry anyway as I absolutely LOVE the ROM I am currently running and don't really care about ICS.
I use a couple nexus phones at work and I see no real advantage whatever to ICS.
If you root your phone it will start to fall apart. All of the ROMs will then steal your personal information and make it difficult to go to the bathroom. Then there's the issue with hand warts that people are getting with these ICS ROMs that have come out.
Do it. Stop questioning it. It's worth it.

[Q] point me on the path of ics

i am a proud owner of an xt910 with the current eu 2.3.6 version + rooted and i am a bit confused. there was a leak of ics in the US but has it been converted for us poor eu relatives? Can someone point me to the correct post so i can enjoy a bit of ice cream?
Fraid not - there was a leak for gsm much earlier - but AFAIK the US leak is incompatible with gsm razrs.
is it working well? which thread is it?

Couldn't agree more. I've tried all of the ICS builds for the Razr (GSM) and none are quite there yet. It's best just to wait, but if you really can't wait then I suggest you grab an ICS build of CM9, AOKP, or Gummy - the GSM ICS leak was way back in Feb - quite a lot of bugs then.

When they release the ICS update they will more than likely implement the same unlock kill method as found in the 3.5. And who wants a blurred ics with no ability to install custom roms? We need the release solely for the kernel and drivers. So even if it was ics, no one should update who plans on keeping the ability to flash customs. Then again, I'm sure it won't be long before a dev finds a way around this permalocking bull****.

Me - I'd be quite happy with that.
Although, I do vehemently object to Moto's locking on philosophical grounds. I'm still a hacker, but personally don't find much incremental value in customizing ICS. (Have stock ICS on my Xoom) I satisfy my hacking needs on the hardware side nowadays (not phones, other embedded things)

I didnt mean to exclude anyone. I know having 4g is important for some and keeps people locked. Others just don't know or don't care. But i feel comfortable in stating that 'most' people found in these forums arn't here to stay on stock, but to expand their phones capabilities to the edge of what is possible. I for one don't understand how anyone can see all the amazing work being done around here and not want to get involved. Being locked down would drive me insane. But eh, different strokes for different folks i suppose.
"Involvement" for 'most' people here involves nothing more than whining and demanding things 'the way I want it because everybody wants it that way.'
Personally, I value root access over everything else. That's what makes me happy. I have minor tweaks on my stock ROM that apparently have enough boost to where I don't see an improvement by flashing something else. I have yet to find a hacked-up 'upgrade' which runs as good or better.
The only thing I've gained so far from flashing different ROMs is too much visual candy which I can't stand and a handful of software that I somewhat rely on which either currently doesn't support anything above 2.3.5 or affects my daily use in a negative way.
But yeah, I'm with you. Do what makes you happy. And if it matters, I probably won't do the Motorola update that this thread was intended to talk about.

Hey, friend, no offense taken. You are very correct - most people here want custom ROMs. I enjoy watching and listening here, and fully understand and respect those who want custom ROMs.
Frankly, I probably burnt out in the WinMo days; I never just "had a phone". I now just like having a phone, and spending my hacking time elsewhere.
Cheers!
Maybe ICS Rollout to Test Users ?
I am keeping my fingers crossed for an ICS test rollout. According to Motorola ICS schedule, the ICS will supposedly rollout in Q3 for MoPho, which isn't too far.
It would be a shame if Moto sent this survey signup for another Gingerbread update. :-(
I recieved an email from them yesterday morning. The link brings me to a page saying the test is now for a Final Release. This is gonna be a GB 2.3.5 release for now. ICS in Q3 could mean as late as Sept 30, if Moto is on time with it.
For me, I'm not changing a thing. 4G is not available where I live and probably won't be for a while, if at all. So I value the ability to root and unlock more. After tryin different ROMs I'm liking blur less and the cleaness of AOSP more.
Right now the only thing I miss about blur is to have a separate notificatiin for VM instead of it being lumped with my SMS notifications, but I'm about to figure out what I want for that, too. After all, "There's an app for that".

Additionally, if you do a factory data reset within 24 hours of the soak test start, you may remove your phone from our list. Because of that, we recommend that anyone who is rooted/altered restore to stock NOW. If you are on an unofficial Ice Cream Sandwich build do not attempt to downgrade your phone as it will likely cause it to be unusable. Generally you will have less than 24 hours of advanced warning of the start of the soak.
