[Q] How does USB OTG work with CM9? - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi.
I have a USB OTG cable for my 7500 running latest CM9 nightly and keyboard & mouse works very well with it. When I connect a USB stick I get a notification that a device is connected but I can't access it in a file manager (it look like it is empty, but it's not...)
Is there something more I need to do to get this work?

Good question!
On stock rom filemanager pops up imidiatly after connect an usb pen drive, on ICS i only get it working with "Root Manager" a file manager that can see root of filesystem and let me browse through "\USBDRIVE" folder or "\MNT\USBDRIVE".

I've got it working with this app -> https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.stickmount

[Q] USB host?

When you plug a USB thumbdrive to the phone, it first recognises the drive name but doesn't show any options to use it (even in file manager).
Maybe it's due to the connection type (MTP only)...
Any ideas?
Can you access your files in your USB thumbdrive using the file manager?
I'm using Astro Manager to access, and play my video files directly from the USB thumbdrive.
In fact, I just realised I can access if I keep pushing the cable to the phone... Maybe the cable connection isn't that good. I'll buy a new one.
New mission will be to enable wake using volume key which might be more difficult...
Thank you for your answer!
On my tablet , I use USB host ( full usb connection ) , which means I can plug in a pen drive , keyboard , mouse etc...
Can I do this on the Xperia S ???
With a micro usb adaptor I assume ??
Just found a Vid : The answer to my question is yes !

[Q] How to set up USB OTG

Hello!
I have a question.
I would like to plug in a pendrive to my phone. I have OTG cable and I have installed the USB Host Controller app from the market. But it says S3C usb host driver not found. I think i need that to mount my pendrive, but I don't know where can I find and how can I set up this driver.
Thanks a lot
I am having the same issue, mine is a xt910 rooted but with stock ICS ROM.
No idea how to install the driver in the kernel or if that can be done on a non custom rom.
Sent from my XT910 using xda premium
It's plug and play, just plug the OTG adaptor in and then plug your pen drive in - it will load the drivers as it needs them.
I did exactly the above with my phone before I rooted it, so stock JB ROM works just fine for OTG.

[Q] [Problem] OTG Stopped Working [Hyundai T10]

Hello,
I've used my tablet with flash drives etc. with the OTG cable. Before few days the OTG stopped working.
I though it's from ES File Manager because I use this app very often and I have clicked somewhere and disabled the OTG function.
So, I made decision to pre-install my android firmware and clear everything. > I did this.
And then I put the OTG cable with the flash drive connected and then a USB mouse - the flash drive does not connect, the optic ot the mouse only lights up and then it goes off and the mouse does not work too. I tried the OTG cable on my phone (SGS 2) and it's working perfectly.
Can you guys help me to solve this problem?

Still can't get USB OTG to work? Here's how I did it.

If you have not been able to get your RAZR to read a flash/pen drive, here's how I did it.
I only got a OTG Host cable about 2 months ago, and only just got it working.
You will need the following:
USB OTG Host cable
USB Y cable (or whatever it's called - at least that's what I used)
A rooted phone (I am using the GSM Razr Maxx XT910 on CM11-nightly)
USB OTG Helper (Play store)
USB Host Controller (Play store)
Script Manager - Smanager (Play store)
Install all apps and extract attached script and copy the file (ThumbDrive.PreMount) onto your phone/sd-card memory.
(Note apps must be granted superuser permissions)
1. Connect your charger to power and connect your phone.
(Before we can begin, we must first find where the drive is. Open USB Host Controller, and under settings make "Dmesg display mode" continuous". Under the USB tab, look at the log at the bottom and you should see something about the device being rejected due to insufficient power or something like that. Mine is 3-1, your's will probably also be, but if it's not 3-1, you will need to change the script accordingly with a text editor.)
2. USB OTG Helper may give you a popup, just click cancel.
3. Now in Smanager, run the script you copied onto your phone. You must run it as a script, and give it SU permission. Just click the home key after you've run the script.
4.1 Now open USB OTG Helper and click mount.
4.2 You'll probably get an error, but you can ignore this.
5. Your drive should be mounted. Look for it under /storage/UsbOtgDrives/drive_1 (I use Solid Explorer as my file manager and it even added some shortcuts on the left - but not initially though).
You will have to do this everytime you plug a device in, but it's very quick once you know what to do.
I'm just putting this out there because I know it's a function many have not got working. I know there's already a lot of resources on this topic, but frankly they never really helped me. This thread guided me in the right direction though: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2050925
Kind regards

USB On-The-Go functionality for CM-based ROMS

I'm not sure whether I'm having hardware issues, but USB OTG function doesn't seem to work when I'm trying to connect a flash drive to my phone (XT1521). I've tried this on both CM13 (August Nightlies onwards) and RR 5.7.4. Previously on stock rom (6.0), USB OTG works okay when it comes to flash drives. Nowadays, my phone doesn't seem to detect flash drives, though it could detect other input devices, such as mouse. Please note that the flash drives are using FAT format. Is there anyone who's having the same problem? I'm really wondering whether this is an issue with CM-based ROMS for Surnia, or it's just my phone. Any helpful info would truly be appreciated.
well, Ive used cm13 and have been able to connect the pendrive using otg and was able to view the files. Try this=>
download es file explorer and then slide for the side menu and u will find a tab named "local", click on it and u will find the usb device connected. Click on the name of the usb drive and u will be to access it..
Note: Ive tried numerous apps but none except es file explorer could detect the usb device.

I've just downloaded ES File Explorer and did what you've just said. Sadly, there's nothing. :'( I do see the point of using ES, as some USB Drives seem to be rather picky with file explorers, even with my Xperia M back in the days. Is there any prompt appearing in your notifications drawer when you plug in your drive? I get nothing. ?

I was always able to access my USB in CM-Based ROMs though ES File Explorer.
