[Q] How to set up USB OTG - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello!
I have a question.
I would like to plug in a pendrive to my phone. I have OTG cable and I have installed the USB Host Controller app from the market. But it says S3C usb host driver not found. I think i need that to mount my pendrive, but I don't know where can I find and how can I set up this driver.
Thanks a lot

I am having the same issue, mine is a xt910 rooted but with stock ICS ROM.
No idea how to install the driver in the kernel or if that can be done on a non custom rom.

It's plug and play, just plug the OTG adaptor in and then plug your pen drive in - it will load the drivers as it needs them.
I did exactly the above with my phone before I rooted it, so stock JB ROM works just fine for OTG.

Btw, OTG does work on the stock Ray kernel - A Nokia CA-157 cable works perfectly if you want to connect a mouse or keyboard. If you want to connect a USB memory stick or card reader, you'll also need a rooted phone, a kernel module, and a helper app to load everything. (You'll also need a compatible USB memory stick - if it draws too much power, it won't work as the phone can only provide 200ma on its USB port)
I documented this all on my blog: http://blog.grapefruitopia.com/post/17548799734/using-usb-storage-devices-on-a-rooted-xperia

A little addition to this:
- Xperia Ray users ofcourse have to use a little converter piece before we can use a mini USB OTG cable. I got this with my TomTom car charger.
- The module loader app couldn't keep the usb-storage.ko module loaded. The Q5 app could see my USB stick, then I mounted it, but I could never see it with root explorer. When I checked back, the device wasn't mounted anymore and the module wasn't loaded anymore. I found this package that flashes the module and lets the Q5 app load it. So no need anymore for the module loader app. Now I can acces my USB stick, card reader, externally powered HDD etc flawlessly :d
- Glad to find that USB mouses and keboards works from stock with no extra apps. I can even use my wireless ones.
Hah - got this working on on my rooted stock ICS .562:
go grab doomlords modules here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1224676
and load them using doomlords module loader here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1224676
Then use the Q5 USB Memory Stick Manager from here:

USB doesnt work on cm7

Hello,
I have flashed cm7 and recently i have noticed that my USB port does not work! . I searched in play store for stickmount but it says that my device is not combatible with this version. When i try to download it from other external sites it says there was an error parsing the package. Is there any solution to make my USB work?
USB is working.
What are you trying to do?
Attach an USB Stick?
Are you sure that the OTG cable you are using is OK?
are u talking bout the usb host or the mini usb port to connect to pc, eyther way for me only the host works, but that isnt such a big problem for me except the fact that i cant connect to pc?
I am trying to attach a usb stick directly but the archos does not recognise the usb.
AGAIN, and you are using an OTG Adapter?
No i am not using an OTG cable. I am trying to connect it directly through the usb port.
Are we talking about a A70 or an A101?
A70 NEEDS OTG.
A101 is known for "blowing" the usb-port. That was fixed in the last FW ( 2.3.84 and UD 1.6.4 ) but not in CM7.
I have an archos101. What is FW 2.3.84 and UD 1.6.4 . Are they more stable roms than the cm7?
FW == Archos Firmware
UD == UrukDroid
I can't ( don't want to ) tell you what's better for you, you have to search for your self in this forum, there are tons of infos about that.
I know! Thank you!

[Q] OTG USB Hub with custom firmwareb

Hello. I'm installing archlinux-arm onto sgs2 and have one problem, which I don't yet understand.
When I connect two flash drives through usb hub to otg connect, phone sees them both.
When I run archlinux with kernel compiled from cyanogenmod hor light and simple, flash drives work when connected directly to otg. But phone doesn't see hub nor flash drives, when hub is connected.
Is there something I need to tweak in kernel config or from userland?

[Q] OTG Cable kitkat 4.4.4

I am trying to use my flash drive with otg cable. I connected my atrix with a USB hub, powered it and also connected another pen drive to it but there was no notification.
Is otg not working in kitkat 4.4.4?? Didn't try in 4.2 or previous version.

OTG is probably not going to work at this time. It is important to keep in mind that Z is working on stability and things along those lines. OTG is not something needed to have stability.
Try using the "USB host controller" app.

Need OTG Support - Which ROM?

Hi,
does any of the countless i9100 (not "G") ROMs have OTG support?
Best regards,
toshibashi
CyanogenMod does support OTG.
Just checked with CM12.1.
And when i remember correctly, Cm11 worked as well.
I have cyanogenmod 12.1-20160106 Nightly-i9100 kernel 3.064-cm-gd71763e [email protected] #1. I have enable Android debug brigde and usb debbuging but OTG is not working. The cable is tested on a sony experia tablet and works fine with usb mouse and usb flash drive. I have also download several programs like USB OTG Helper, Stick (something), and others i don't remember. One of them said s3c usb host driver is missing. Any idea how to fix OTG?
Thanks in advance
What is OTG?

OTG is the ability of a phone to connect USB devices with an adapter connected to the microUSB port. You can connect keyboards or USB sticks, for example.
Well I run stock CM12.1 and never had any problem with OTG. I don't know if it might be the problem that your USB OTG adapter is not from Samsung?
