S-Voice does not obey some commands - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

I have Samsung Galaxy Note and have updated the ROM to [Rom]~[UCLF5]~TEAM PERFECTION'S ICS OBJECTION |06/26 |
Noted following issues so far.
1. S-Voice port works most of the time but does not obey some commands (e. "Open Calculator"). It recognizes the command, confirms it but Calculator does not open up. I would say this problem is not restricted to this ROM though. I did try one from OnlyOne as well as independent install of the same.
That said everything else seems to work well.
2. It is not rooted but you can use CWM and flash a separate package that will Root the ROM. You need to search for the right ROM. One that works well is Superuser-i717-ICS-signed.zip available via
3. 5x 3 applets can not be docked . Google search is available on all seven pages and that I believe is causing this problem. Small Widgets are OK but larger one have problem
3. Do not see Recovery option is restart/reboot menu (when you press power button) . This is not enabled by default. Figuring out how that would work.

What? Huh? Title does not match post. Guessing you are reviewing the TEAM PERFECTION'S ICS OBJECTION.
1) S Voice is just like any of these voice apps. More of a PIA than anything.
2) Search for the right ROM to root the ROM? Try post 19 of the thread (on the second page) for the link.
3) Haven't tried it so not sure.
3) You already said 3. :silly: Recovery on reboot is not a standard on any ROM unless modded with an app. Simply hold volume up and volume down while holding power. Release power after vibrate. Release volume after you see the text on screen.

Some other weirdness and S-Voice
Reason why I said S-Voice does not obey some commands is because "OPEN CALCULATOR" is one of the commands that S-Voice helps tells you to try. Many things work but this command, even after being recognized does not work.
I also noted that Cell Phone does not completely poweroff even after choosing power off options. Lower Home Navigation Bar (that has Home, Menu, Back and Search Options), remains lit even after screen goes dark.

If you are having these issues and they bother you then I would choose a diferent ROM. Electron's stock version does not have these problems.

This belongs in the Objection ROM thread, not here.

Doesn't obey your commands???? Fire her!

I also noted that with Team Objection's UCLF5 release, Power Off or Reboot option does not work. My phones gets stuck. I think it will take some time for UCLF5 to stabilise. I am moving back to UCLE2

I guess the S in S Voice stands for "Stubborn".

2. Agree. I used the same file to root.
3. Agree. Can't create larger widgets in launcher mode (those weather widgets).
When choosing power off, it takes a while before everything turn off though.

Many of the S-Voice commands are looking for Samsung's proprietary apps and other things only available on the SIII and not the ones available in the ROMs, so many will not work unless you have a stock SIII ROM. Whether or not this can be worked around, I don't know.

Home-Button-Lag in XXLPB-ROMs

Hi,
PLEASE READ MY LAST POST FIRST
I want to flash one of the AOSPized-XXLPB ROMs but since I've not much time and I ask this to everybody who uses any of those ROMs:
Which ROMs does not come with the Home-Button double-click voice search? Also: Which ROMs have the Samsung-Apps (Hubs & stuff) removed?
Thank you very much!
well i used two ROM's BEZKE_ultraICS and Resurrection Remix ics both does not come with home button double click voice search and Samsung hubs and stuff is removed in both of them.........
Omega doesnt have the double click home button feature and in the kitchen app you can download the mod to get rid of the sammy apps if you want.Links below under the signature.
Awesome, thanks!
Hi,
I tested 2 ICS ROMs (westcrip & bezke) and here are my findings:
Both ROMs do not come with the voice search.
HOWEVER:
The Home-Button-Double-Click is not properly disabled as is is for example in CheckROM. For that reason, pressing the Home-Button in one of those ICS ROMs has a notable lag compared to CheckROM.
You can try this for yourself:
Double click the Home-Button on an ICS ROM. Nothing will happen: That is the Voice-Search-Command that is fired into nothingness because voice search is not there. In CheckROM however, double-clicking the button evokes the "go back to launcher"-event two times, as is should.
So to all ICS ROM developers: Please deactivate the Home-Button-Double-Click properly (if it's possible).
Thanks!
The home-button-double-click is completely disabled in my ROM.You can hit it twice and nothing happens, its dead.Give Omega a try.
EDIT:Voice search is found by holding your finger down on the left soft key(menu key) which opens Google Search and you will see a mic icon in the top right corner for Voice Search.

[Q] Power button menu additions?

First off I would just like to say I purchased the Note last week outright, never have I has so few regrets after spending $600 on a phone or any electronics. After coming from Xperia devices for the last 5 years the Note is a refreshing change.
Anyways to the point, when the power button is held on an Xperia device there are additional options such as "reboot and take screen shot", Does anyone know how to add these to the power button options, the reboot option on the Xperia play was added via a CMW flashable zip file. Is there anything simaler to this with the note? I miss both of these options so very much.
Cheers
The "quick boot" app in market works fine and will get you in recovery .....also tapping home plus power takes a screenshot.

Yeah Rom Toolbox also contains a "rebooter" option which will alow restart as well as boot into recovery, was just hoping someone around here had a solution aside from having to open an app or widget option. Perhaps a zip file to flash. Anyways, not a big deal. Hopefully someone with some more development experiance then I will do it eventually. Might check the other galaxy forums.
Thanks though.
If you flash ics, it comes with the reboot option. If you want certain ones, check out roms, usually devs bake it into their ROMs.

Bug reports for Jelly Bean 4.1.2

Hi all,
I installed the latest official firmware from Samsung which was rolled out officially in Spain, and I wanted to take the opportunity to share two things that bother me:
1.) Lock screen shortcuts: any shortcut app on the lock screen (e. g. camera, flash light) still asks for the PIN. I thought the idea of the shortcuts was to avoid having to type in the PIN for non-security-related apps ...
2.) Keyboard language switching: the space bar wiping for switching the language is really nice, BUT: voice typing does not use the same language as the one specified for typing! When I go to voice typing, even worse, I have to select the language I want to dictate two times, the first time will not be recognized!
Ok, hopefully I am wrong but I rather doubt it... if anybody can confirm these things please let me know!

Well....lockscreen freeze on leak jb, that's a bug.
Shortcuts: PIN code selected as lockscreen security? If so, make sense that it'll prompt.

If it's not a bug, what is the benefit? Suppose I have the flashlight app on my homescreen. If I want to access it I have to do:
- enter PIN
- tap on the icon
Now, with the great new lockscreen shortcuts, I do:
- tap on the icon
- enter the PIN
What's the benefit of the lock screen shortcuts, anyone?
What's the benefit of setting your lockscreen to ask you for a PIN number?
So that people can't access to your device.
Shorcuts play the same role.

Yes, the benefit of the PIN is security. I did not understand the rest of your answer.
As far as I understand, the widgets and shortcuts on the lock screen of the pure Android Jelly Bean, as it is installed on the Nexus 4, is the following: you can access some applications even without entering your PIN. This makes totally sense for some non-security related applications like the flashlight, or the music player. In the Samsung Jelly Bean adoption, I still have to enter the PIN code - so what's the sense of the shortcut then?
If something is not working as it is intended it is a bug. To me, this is a bug. Where can I file a bug report for the Samsung Jelly Bean?

On htc sense is the same. Has been since 2011 on Sense 3.
It's not a bug. No point reporting it, it makes sense, why would you set a password but apps can be opened from shortcuts?

So, what's the point of the shortcuts then? I don't see why it is faster to first press the icon and then enter the PIN, compared to first entering the PIN and then pressing the icon.
So you don't want anyone that hasn't your PIN code to use your phone, but you also don't mind them using whatever apps you got shorcuted on your lockscreen?
That's how you want your phone's security to work?

Galaxy S2 Omega v19.2 FC during charge
Hi all,
I have just installed the omega v19.2 rom and found a bug. If I put the USB cable to the phone (charger or my PC, does not matter) and let it switch off itself automatically, then I can not switch on the device again, have to pull out the battery and restart again. If I switch off the screen with the power button during charging than it does not freeze, i can switch it on again. Any solution?

Want to use a custom kernel?
This ROM is now using 2.04 base, which means you would need to use a kernel that has been updated for 2.04. If you use a kernel that uses the 1.15 base you will see screen flicker.
Can I hide the horizontal quick settings?
Yes, just click on the date in the notification pulldown.
How do I access the vertical quick settings?
Tap the button next to the normal settings button in the notification pulldown.
MMS on GSM ROM
Use APN tweaker that is included in the Rom and just follow the steps. Once you are done, you can uninstall tweaker.

How do I change icons on the navbar?
Open the app drawer, long press app you want to remove and drag it to apps. Then long press and drag the app you would like to add to the space on the navbar.
How do you get rid of the 3 button menu on the bottom of the screen?
Settings > Display, gestures & buttons > Recent apps button. Choose something other than Always open recent apps. If you would like the 3 button menu back, change back to Always open recent apps.
What resolution are pic’s taken at?
8MP
Facebook scrolling is TERRIBLE!?
Settings > Apps > Facebook > Check "Force GPU rendering"
How do I get rid of the power saver notification?

Turn off ADB under developer options, then turn it back on.
Can I use an OTG cable with this ROM?
Yes, since it is using the stock kernel, it does support OTG cable.

Has anyone else had issues with facebook app instability (whenever I go to search for something, the screen turns white, then returns to wherever I was before I tried searching for something, continues to happen even after re-install of app, etc) or quirky behavior in the default web browser (Reddit in particular, when I go to some screens, the screen gets squished/compressed from the sides, and instead of elements appearing next to each other horizontally, they are stacked vertically instead. Would take a screenshot of that though Im not sure how to take them on this rom)

I have the same issue.
I found a funny (to me) quirk in the system. If you have hotspot turned on, the camera flash won't work. It seems to be "officially" the way it works, since it even gives a message that the flash is unavailable while hotspot is turned on. How in the heck are these two things related?
Not an issue at all and, I believe, not specific to this ROM - just a funny observation.

I just cannot get wireless tether to work for some reason. I searched through this thread and tried changing the profile to both wlan0 and Rezound, as well as enable the routing fix. By doing those fixes, I got the "Started with errors" message to go away, but when I try to connect to it from a PC, it never gets an internet connection. Anyone have any ideas?

I installed the beastmode kernel yesterday and everything was great. Today, battery sucked. Checked betterbatterystats and looked like the phone was staying awake the whole time, even when not in use. I also kept losing service and had to restart numerous times to get it back. Now, when I wake the phone using volume keys or power button, there's like a two second lag. I installed the kernel choosing the default settings. Are the problems I'm experiencing kernel related?

So, your S4 behaves differently than your S4. That's weird.
Seriously, that's how it's supposed to work. Go into Google Now, settings/help, where it's explained. Long press home is on Google Play edition phones (swipe up is for Nexus phones).
Ok, but I have googled this all over the place. Other people on other forums say the same. Long Press menu brings up Google Now. Additionally, my phone used to do this until last week.

The S4 is an "Android 4.1+ device," and it works exactly as described.
But if you knew how to read, you could download the user manual for the phone, and discover how Samsung says it works:
Home: Press to display the Home screen, or Lock screen if the device is locked. Press and hold to display recent applications or launch Task Manager or Google Search.
Click to collapse
...which again confirms that the OP's phone (and my own, which is running "rooted" stock) is working as both Google and Samsung describe.
But, maybe you like the taste of crow, since you've asked for a second serving.

Really whipping out the manual? Lol in the section you're referring to, it also doesn't mention that long pressing the back key toggles the multiwindow tab. It's not a complete guide to those functions.
