How good is the radio/gps signal? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just pre order the Verizon version and I was just wondering how good is the radio and gps signal? I know that some version doesn't have LTE but I think the gps should be the same at least for the US version.

Question: Flashing radios on AT&T Fuze

I've looked through countless posts and on the wiki and have yet to find the answer to this question. If it has been answered and I missed it, I'm sorry... I'll look harder next time.
I just purchased a Fuze from a good friend of mine who works in an AT&T corporate store. Since this version supports the US 850mhz 3G band, I need to know if I will loose that support or possibly brick my phone by flashing a radio from a version of the Raphael that does not support this band.
Thanks again for the help.

As soon as I get my Fuze I will work on that as well. Maybe take a page from TarsusBulba as he did in the Kaiser Forum to make the Tilt hardware keyboard with with HTC Roms

Bottom of the page, its the cab to remap your Fuze.
Well, I promised to post my findings, so here it is:
My Fuze can still connect to the AT&T 3G network with no issue even after flashing the .28 radio from an international Touch Pro. Really adds to the mystery of why the Touch Pro can't do US 3G yet the Fuze can...

Not yet. I like to be security unlocked prior to any sort of flashing. It's just a preference thing after the Kaiser Radio from Hell fiasco.

Reflashing from different carriers?
Verizon and sprint run CDMA and EVDO, and ATT runs GSM(edge) and UMTS, I'm not really such you can just re-flash the radios to swap networks, I maybe wrong but I would like to know also. Anybody?

no no no ... you can't swap gsm radio rom to a cdma phone ... it won't work and you might end up bricking your phone.
i believe what the op is asking if he will loose us 3g ability if he flashes a european 3g radio rom that doesn't support the att 3g band. And imo i think yes you will loose 3g by doing that. If this was avoidable than everyone who bought a international rapheal could have been using it here in states with att/tmobile 3g...

Doesn't Olipro's Raphael Unlocker do just that? Are you saying that you just haven't done this yet or that this program needs to be updated for the Fuze? Also I noticed the SPL version is 1.95.0000 on my Fuze, not 1.90. Do you think it is safe to flash RaphaelHardSPL-Unsigned_1_90_3? Happy to test my new Fuze but just need a little reassurance first I'm not likely going to brick this new puppy. Thanks.
Good to see some top Kaiser guys here with the Fuze. Give me comfort in knowing we will have a strong Fuze following.

i believe there are a few people who successfully flashedhe Fuze. I'm in the process of doing so as well, just flashed Romeos2.
now this question might come off as stupidest you'll ever hear, but please bear with me as this is the first time i'm flashing a rom. do i have to do anything about the radio after flashing the rom? (a better question is: does flashing rom get rid of the radio so that I have to get a new one?)
thanks guys for the help.

Are the apk's also not throwing a lot of useless debug output ?

Won't happen on the devices released to the public because our radio isn't capable of using the ATT3G bands, but they may be releasing a flavor that's compatible with ATT.
Just a guess.

Couldn't this just be resolved with a radio update from Google. I mean GSM is GSM, it's about receiving the right bandwidth which is controlled by the radio. Unless I am missing something, I believe google could push out an update for the radio that supported both TMO and ATT's 3G bandwidth.
You need the right antennas. Hardware.

No, ATT and t-mobile run their 3G on complete different bands, so there's no compatibility between the two with existing hardware(that I know of).
Of course voice and EDGE will still function fine on the same phone between both carriers, but you'll need a phone that supports the specific bands for the carrier you're intending to use 3G on if you want it to work.

Different between CDMA and LTE on Radios

Hey guys, I feel like a big ole newb BUT whats the difference in the radios section between the CDMA listing and the LTE listing for the radios md5's?

Diff between CDMA and LTE radios:
CDMA for voice and LTE for data.
Flash both if you want to update both.
Diff between CDMA and LTE radio md5's:
A lot of numbers and letters
Your device has 6 radios inside it. 2 cdma and one LTE. The cdma radio serves the radio on the snapdragon. The LTE serves the one on the mdm9600.
Honestly, I think its funny that they are being listed that way.
Being that 3G and LTE are on the same radio, and voice is on another

True.... but what else could you call them? The MSM8655 and MDM9600? I mean, the bootloader at least calls the one the MDM9K.... like anyone would just know what that is if they didn't know the chip models.

Me too, but do you think you get some stupid questions now? I can't imagine how bad it would get if chip numbers became the norm.
another (possibly) stupid question for you specifically, adrynalyne.
the radio downloads you always post in your radio thread (over at team bamf) have both radios rolled into one package, correct? you never link them as two separate downloads, so i assume this is the case.

It doesn't take Adrynalyne to answer that. Yes, his radio posts include both radios as they appear in a given RUU.

[Q] Is there any hope for another xt912 radio?

Since its looking like the US GSM lock is at the baseband level(correct me if 'm wrong,) I'm wondering if there's any chance of ever getting an unlocked radio.
From what I've seen the only option on other phones is usually a radio from a foreign version of the same phone, which we don't have do we?

Hmm, didn't know that. In this case, we would need a custom/modded radio. Or some other radio or authentication related things.

What are the differences between the verizon and at&t note 2

Besides the obvious model number, what are the differences in hardware and firmware between the two.
They seem identical my cousin has the galaxy note 2 at&t and I have the i605 Verizon gn2 maybe the network receivers are different

I understand the obvious here but I currently have the verizon 605 and I'm on at&t so it would seem that it can be on any carrier considering the n2 uses a lot of freqs. I'm talking about actual hardware differences. I might need to do some research on my own with this one. But if anyone else can help with this would be appreciated.

Verizon model doesn't have what it needs to be on AT&T LTE. I believe the way the memory is partitioned is different as well.
Just out of curiosity, why are you wanting to know?

The main differences are the included radios
Verizon: http://www.phonescoop.com/phones/phone.php?p=3926
AT&T: http://www.phonescoop.com/phones/phone.php?p=3918
Of course firmware will be very different because of interfacing with the radios

^ Thanks for this.
Thinking out loud here, not sure why Samsung wouldn't be able to have one radio that can handle all those different LTE bands. Perhaps this is intentional based on requests from US carriers?

Hmm I am confused here.. doesn't the Verizon note 2 have both GSM and CDMA capabilities, that why is considered a World phone..
I'm pretty certain the main differences is firmare and not hardware. I'll have to check those links Kenny..
I know of people running t mobile on a Verizon note 2 that have everything working perfectly fine and t mobile is GSM. Pop the Sim in, switch mobile networks to GSM, maybe edit apns for lte..but I don't even thunk that is needed once the GSM Sim is in place. This unlocks the add apn feature under access points

Thank you for this tidbit of info. I'm currently trying to figure a way to get my old VZW Note 2 working on Straight Talk for my Dad, who's currently using a 3" Samsung something-or-other P.O.S. I'm going to get the AT&T version of the Straight Talk SIM and try it out since some have reported success with it. If not that one, then maybe the T-Mobile one.
I'll post back with my results (5-10 business days for delivery--yikes!)
P.S. Anyone else out there have a recommendation for a ROM to use for this? I'm going to go with something 4.1.x because I've read that later versions won't work. Jedi X maybe?
