hopefully we can flash Tmobile ICS rom on our AT&T GNOTE for those who are using At&t Note on Tmobile networks. can't wait to find out if it is gonna work... At&t GS2 Skyrocket and Tmobile GS2 roms were interchangeable so maybe the NOTE is gonna be the same..

From what I understand, we can do it as long as we don't flash the radio and bootloaders. This is as long as they have the same hardware (except the radio of course). If they are going with a different processor, we will be able to use the ROMs but only if they are heavily modified.
As mha1021 said, it would be like porting ROMs from the Skyrocket to the GS2, but you can't flash them as-is.
Would be nice if this helps us get better 4g speeds

As everybody knows the At&t version of the Note will be using a qualcomm chip. Now i know the chip different compared to the skyrocket but i was wondering you guys think its possible to flash the Tmobile Galaxy S2 modem and get Tmobile 3G service.
Reason why i asked this because the Skyrocket and Tmo GS2 are similar in nearly every aspect except that they both use slightly different chips i believe. But there software and modem can be interchangeable. So i was wondering if the same possibility can happen on the Note.

Difference thats the unlocked version which doesn't have similar hardware to the the GSM US GS2, and if trying to flash would brick the Note. Unless you start from scratch which is a hassle. The AT&T has similar hardware to the GS2 in US so the modem switch wouldn't require much work besides a simple modem flash i believe. This is due to my experience with the Skyrocket and the Tmo GS2.
Any other thoughts on this? I'm on T-Mobile and will gladly give up my int version for the at&t one.

Typically AT&T version will have even less 3G band support than international version. For example, GS2 international has quad band 3G while AT&T i777 only has triband 3G.
The chance that you will see 3G on T-Mo on AT&T Note is close to zero. That's the price you pay for chosing T-Mo.

The At&t Note has nearly the same hardware as the Samsung Skyrocket.(which does support T-Mobile 3g) All that needs to be done is flashing the t989 radio.
I suppose only time will tell if it will work on the Note also.

Well its 749.99 off contract, right now idk if its worth it since in 2 months the SGS3 is coming out due to rumors. Well so far everything lines up the Gnote seems to have the same internals of the GS2 so the modem will most likely to work.

Not sure if you mean a stock Skyrocket but when I used my wife's T mobile SIM card to unlock my skyrocket it got edge for data not 3G. I think this is harder than it sounds. Hopefully someone can get this to work.

What he meant is that Skyrocket uses the same Qualcomm chip as T-Mo GS2. All you have to do is flash the T-Mo GS2 modem. Since there is no T-Mo GNote, you will have to take the risk to try T-Mo GS2 modem youself which may or maynot work and may brick your phone.
There also could be differences in attena design that may not work the best for 1700Mhz AWS band.
I'm suggesting a good rom/kernel/radio combination for the att note. I have a skyrocket on T-Mobile 4g with 3-7 mbps download and 100kps upload for some reason...I flashed the tpc custom rom and custom kernel and tried each radio till the telus radio showed up 4g...its working great thus far. Im going to try the same combo on my note when cwm is released and stable. Hopefully it works

Why don't you read before posting? Look at the date of the post, it was before the AT&T Note was even released, obviously before it was found out that it does work for T-mobile.

My guess is this is likely for the international version. For the ATT version I would suggest ICS will take 2-3 more months to arrive. ATT does not know the meaning of moving quickly.
Idk Samsung pushing for a global simultaneous release for the gs3 so heres hoping the lag between updates is only a few weeks
Sent from my XT912 using xda premium
akjdhflskdjlskdjfls i want it asap!!!
I think we have to hope for CM9, tbh. Samsung is definitely making good progress on ICS for international Note and GS2, but these devices (AT&T Note and Skyrocket) are both gated by AT&T, and running completely different hardware. I had an Infuse for a while, which got gingerbread from AT&T at the end of January. Hopefully that is not indicative of the delay we'll see for ICS on the Note, but I'm not holding my breath--I have literally no faith in AT&T's ability to deliver updates in a timely manner.
Like Dave said, it's probably for the international version. Although my guess would be that you might be able to upgrade it anyway

That won't happen.. they have to clear the firmware through att first and I guarantee att doesn't even have it yet so a few months after they get it is what you should count on.

We will get ICS later down the road.

That's for the International Note. Completely different. Since they have the Exynos 1.4GHz processor, and we have the Qualcomm Snapdragon 1.5GHz processor, the ICS for the International Note will be mostly useless to us.
Coming from previous US Samsung phones on AT&T, we will be at least 3 months behind the international version due to the fact that our devices are carrier locked, therefore AT&T has to have its go at the device and add all of the bloatware to it. It definitely sucks, but it's something we have to deal with.
Hopefully somebody can pull some ish with our Notes like LinuxBozo did for the Infuse with his HellRaiser program. If not, we are at the will of AT&T.
First off i wanna say KUDOS to all the devs working on CWM, ROMS etc.
I really enjoy my i717 but since we can't install any custom ROMS im feeling that maybe i should switch to the N7000.
I just wanna ask the rest of the XDA community what do you think? Switch or wait it out?
Sent from my SGH-I717R using XDA App
The Snapdragon variant hasn't even been out for a week yet... Give it some time, ROMs will come soon.
IMO, if you can live without LTE.. well then switch.
Well LTE is what's hindering my decision as LTE here in Toronto Canada is just blazing fast.
I played with an i9100 which has ICS and wish we could have it on our notes too.
From several post here ICS isn't coming to our i717 notes anytime soon
I know the devs are great and patience is something we all have to have.

If you live in an LTE area, I would keep the i717 a bit longer. How long can you keep it? If not for LTE, I would not mess with the i717 especially after my IV just received the LB1 update. I just know ics is around the corner for the international version! I like the i717 but since getting it Sunday, I am concerned about battery life...will give it a few more cycles. Sure does not last like the HSPA version!

I just ordered a white international note.. but am gonna keep my att white note as backup. I feel like the att note should be much more. But is lacking and has too much bloatware . Yea i could root and stuff. But this is my work line. Etc..
Sent from my awesome GALAXY NOTE..
So I traded my i717R for an N7000 and I couldn't be happier. The Note N7000 seems to be a lot faster but I'm gonna miss the LTE speeds.

With the US version having the same hardware, will we be able to flash the same roms on all the carriers? I know we have to flash our own kernel and modem to work on our network.
Negative. International version has exenos and the north America version has the s4 qualcomm
Sent from my SGH-I777 using xda premium
I'm only taking about the us version, they are going to release to all the major carriers at the same time.
Sent from T-Mobile's galaxy S 4g for a minute until the SIII is released in the United States
But they still got a s4 instead of exenos.

actually i don't think its gonna be that bad...as long a rom doesnt include a radio, and you inject the appropriate kernels... roms will for the most part be interchangeable between the US Variants
