Hi everyone from Greece,
I would appreciate your help with my problem.
I am an owner of Galaxy s2 simply rooted with 4.0.3 xwlp7.I use exDialer instead of stock and eventhow all my contacts are set correctly where they should be-meaning first name in the first name box,the same with last name-when i receive a call the first name appears first followed by the last name,which i want the opposite.
All the settings in exDialer as well as in stock app are correct-dispay order by last name,appearence by last name first,when i search for a contact it displays correct by the last name but when i get a call.....first name first...
I have tried everything but with no result..I forgot to mention that my contacts are Google contacts
Thanks in advance..

IMO, this is a "feature" of the dialer app.
It receives the caller's number and makes a lookup into your contacts.
There it gets the first and last name information and displays the name.
If you can not find an option to change the order of the caller's name display, you may not be able to change this setting ... and have to try another dialer app, which supports such an option.
As I am using the stock dialer, and this doesn't have such an option either, I can not suggest a better dialer app ... sorry !
Thanks,but is it possible in my previus phone(galaxy s) everything to be in order and know in a better phone.....
Do you suggest to switch the order in the contacts and where it says''first name'' try putting last name and vice versa;

Hi!
I just upgraded to stock 2.1 and I have a problem with the contacts app. I linked every contact to their facebook account and one of my friends (ass) typed in a wrong phone-number. Now I can't phone him without adjusting the phonenumber, cause android uses the facebook phonenumber instead of the number I saved in my phone. Is there a way to tell android to don't use the facebook phonenumbers without 'un-linking' my contacts?
Please help! I'm turning crazy over here!!!!!
Thanks in advance!
I've just updated to 2.1 for a while, and luckily I haven't encountered your weird problem. Each time I linked a contact with a facebook account, I had a contact that has both mobile phone number (except if both of them are the same) However, I have another weird problem: After linking a contact with a facebook account, I choosed a name for the contact (most of the time I went with the phone name) The problem is sometimes, after syncing, the name changed randomly to another name (for example the facebook name) and I was unable to search for that person if I didn't remember his facebook name. No matter how I changed the name back again and again, it kept changing on its will.
Any suggestion?

Lol, I met with this problem aswell, but figured out how to come across it. Go into contacts, click on the persons name you want to change, click on his name again in the top of the screen (between his photo and the "linked" icon). Now you'll see a selectbox with his facebook name, phone name, google name etc. Select the one you want to show in your contacts list and then confirm (bottom left of your screen --> I have a dutch phone so don't know the english name for the button).
I'm still having my phonenumber problem, anyone a suggestion (the guy with the wrong phonenumber on facebook isn't that good with computers, so he doesn't know how to change his phonenumber (ass))
Regards
Thank you for your kind answer, but it doesn't solve my problem. Actually I have already done that a million times, but each time the phone synced, some of my contacts randomly changed their names without my permission. Then I changed back, and a while later, the names changed again... It was really annoying

Hi, I have a weird issue with one of my contacts. An old number they no longer use just won't delete! I Tried to delete the contact altogehter, and add it again, even tried to change the name by adding something extra to it, but whenever I try to text the person, the previous number shows up, THEN the current number (and not just the name of the contact like it should. Something to keep in mind is that the old number does not show up in the actual contacgts directory, ONLY whenever I text them, and it doesn't show their name, which is really REALLY annoying!!! Can anyone help? I tried uninstalling/reinstalling using Titanium Backup, even the data wipe of the messaging app, didn't work! Still doing the same thing, seems like the app won't disassociate the past number from the current, and the weird thing is that I had deleted that number from the contacts long before, when I was still on 2.1 (stock). Now that I have updated to the stock 2.3.3, it brought that number back! Please help, this really sucks and I don't know what to do, don't want to do a repair install, so much work :-( Another issue I found is that the messaging won't sound the notification I set, it does blink the LED light, but won't vibrate or sound the notification I set up for it... What should I do??? Thanks in advance...
sorry just tried merging the posts to my first post, but can't delete this one.
Same as the upper post, sorry again...
I had a similar problem. You can edit your contacts at the actual gmail website from your internet browser. Also remember when adding contacts from phone, click save to gmail and sync contacts every now and then if auto-sync is disabled.
Really? Where do I edit my contacts??? When I check my contacts in Gmail, it only shows me the email contacts I have, no actual phone numbers

At the top right there should be a contacts option, look a bit lower and there should be more options pertaining to it.
I did check that, explored all the options within, and none of my phone contacts show up! Only my email contacts!!! Any other way to handle this??? The sound part seems to have resolved (sometimes it does ring my notification tone), but the messaging app still shows the number I deleted months ago, no idea why it won't disassociate the number. In my contacts list, that number doesn't show. But in messaging, when I try to send that person a meggae, instead of showing the NAME of the person I am sending it to (like it should), it shows the old number and then the new number!!! Any ideas???

It is somehow either associated with your google account or your at&t account, does you at&t plan have an online back up by chance?
I'm actually with Rogers, and have never used their online backup (nor have I checked to see if they provide any). But something rather weird happened, I deleted the messages, asked my friend to send me a text, and when they did, their name showed up like it is supposed to! I hope it is resolved now, thank you all for trying to help
Will update if the problem persists.
I got lots of friend with a home and cellphone number and I already make a mistake calling a friend at home at 4'AM.
I already set manually the default number for some friends to cellphone, but I lost all the preference (deleted address book to get rid of contact pictures and restored csv on gmail).
There is a way to set the default number to "cellphone" for all the contacts on my phonebook?
Thank you.

No
Every time I change or format the phone every default number it's lost.
My solution right now it's to separate the contacts. It's stupid... but the only one I found
how to set phone number primary

In the meantime I have found something. But did not tested until now. I don't now yet what "1" number is. Is Mobile number or what else is? And where should this commands must be entered. In the terminal?
I am still looking to find answer those questions.
android contacts provider: how to set phone number primary
How to set a contact's phone number to be primary number when adding or updating a contact building a custom contacts provider. The adding and updating of contacts is working fine but I don't know how to set one number of the contact to be primary, or default number.
Code:
mValues.put(Phone.IS_PRIMARY, 1);
mValues.put(Phone.IS_SUPER_PRIMARY, 1);
Both Phone.IS_PRIMARY and Phone.IS_SUPER_PRIMARY have to be set.

I guess Phone = phone number, so I should replace Phone with Mobile

Hi all, did a search but couldn't find anything so hoping you guys can help me out. On my old Droid Bionic, when I sync contacts to my car bluetooth, it shows up as first name last name. Now when I sync, it shows up last name first name. Is there any way to change it back? I don't have the option to change what it shows from the unit. On the phone it shows as first name last name though so I think it's just the way contacts are stored on the phone itself. My really old HTC TP2 had the same problem, and there was a program that was able to fix it. I think it just put the first name first in the file where the contacts are stored so it would show up correctly. Is there a program like that for android? Thanks.
I can't test my theory out, but something be getting reversed between your phone and head unit. In the people tab of the dialer there are settings about how to display the contacts, you may want to try changing those settings.

Greetings. I have a ZTE Blade V7 running Android 6.0. I'm very happy with it, but it has a minor quirk which bugs me.
I have a contact of mine, let's call him "John Doe", which my phone doesn't want me to change his name. Let's say I want to call him "Johnny", but my phone automatically changes his name to his full name. Oddly, when I edit it the name field only says "Johnny", but nevertheless even if I edit the contact and come back later, it always reverts to his full name again.
More info: This contact is a fusion of two contacts. One had his phone number, which was called Johnny, and the other had his e-mail address, which featured his full name.
If I can get some insight into why does this happen and how to solve it, I'd be most thankful.
Thanks in advance.
Bump.
