most custom roms do alot of tinkering, so in order to tinker it has to be deodexed. /sherlock

look in your system/app folder if you see .odex files for the apk's there...then it is not deodex'd

In dev section they have stock rooted 2.17 roms..

AFAIK NO, only Odin Flashable and a leaked test version of XXLSJ
there are Deodexed one's like 'Neatrom lite' and 'Simplistic' roms
Is there any steps to take first if i would like to do ota update?
i am htc dev unlocked and running sinister rom
same here, but running stock 4.0.4 and would like to take the ota also. but from what ive read if you got a custom recovery you cant ake the ota straight from htc

cant download it to flash because im on sat. internet which blows....
If anyone is interested here is the CRT off animation there are multiple links for the various firmares you could be running. have not seen it posted so I guess here it is I used. the same method that was used on the s3 and we'll post credit below. I hope you guys enjoy
1. download file
2.backup not necessary but won't hurt.
3. Flash the file in recovery
4.reboot

What ROM are you on?
Remember there are two different files depending what ROM you are running

I flashed the mediafire one. I'm on stock at&t, haven't flashed a rom yet, all I've done is gotten root and twrp

I believe these are only for de-odexed roms, if you are on stock rooted your rom will still be odexed.

STILL hangs at stock samsung animation; with stock XXUBMEA kernel (GOLD3N3Y3 ROM). tried installing after a fresh install, over a dirty install, wiping cache etc. no go.
So when you turn the screen off it just goes Black it doesn't flash like an old tv?
Couldn't tell you why is not working for you because I am running the sand with no issues
