So unfortunately I don't have a lot of information to go on here...but ever since setting up my sgs3, my SMS messages have been showing up in my email client...which kind of makes the email client unusable. I don't suppose anyone has any idea why this is happening or how to fix it?
Could be a couple different things.
1. The mail client has a "converged messages" view, make sure you only have your email account selected from the drop down.
2. did you install an SMS backup app that might be forwarding your SMS to your email account?
1) It actually sent the SMS messages back up to my exchange server...so when I did webmail, my SMS messages were showing up in the webmail client
2) I do have an SMS backup app, but it explicitly goes to my gmail, not to my exchange email.
I had the same happen. It went away when I did this:
1. Phone settings
2. Accounts & Sync
3. Select your exchange account
4. Under "common settings", select "settings"
5. Under "added accounts", select the account the sms come in under
6. Scroll all the way to the bottom, under "server settings" and deselect "sync sms".
I'm not smart enough to know why this worked, but it did.
I'd love to know why this is here...

I had the same issue and I'm pretty sure this is exactly what I did to fix it.

That is the dumbest setting I have ever seen. I can't believe I didn't see it when I was setting the account up. Thanks!
Yea I'd like to know the practically behind this. If someone knows, just curious.

Ok, I did do a search here and I could not find an answer on this forumn.
For all Gmail users...can you share your settings. My Gmail does not seem to sync automatically or if it does it must be just everyonce in awhile cause I am going in and having to do a manual refresh to download my messages.
Photon rooted
I am running juice defender but I don't see anything in my settings there that should effect sync.
How often is your Gmail syncing and how are you adjusting it?
Thanks in advance for your help. BTW- i searched google and several places talk about setting-auto sync...but we don't have that on the Photon.
My email is pushed immediately. Try going into settings > applications > manage applications > gmail and clear data. Restart and send yourself a test email. If that doesn't fix it I'll be surprised. But then Sprint might be having problems in your area.

Ok,I did that and sent mysefl an email. I will see how long it takes to get to my phone. It's already on gmail on my desktop computer.
My other email account seems to push right away.
The odd thing is the email shows up right away in my "all mail" folder but not in my "inbox" folder.
Ok, just in case anyone else has this problem I found the issue and fix on another motorola forum. Go to your widgets and install the power tool. Than press the sync button which is the fourth one from left to right. That will enable auto syncing.
Now if you go to settings-account-google...you will now see all the google applicatons such as books, calendar and email with a checkmark next to them. These check marks were missing from my phone and I had to use the powerwidget to put them back in there. Now I can check them on and off at will.
Only took me two days to find this out.
Just a point I want to make for anyone out there who is as clueless as me:
After rooting, I found that GMail would not autosync. It instructed me to enable autosyncing in settings; however, the settings menu (B&N Style) didn't have the usual menus, and the settings accessible through GMail also didn't help. Eventually, I figured out that you need to click your e-mail in the top right-hand corner, go into menu, click account settings, click GMail under Manage Accounts, and check off the "Sync Gmail" box.
Maybe no one else needs this info, but I spent a while looking for it, so just in case.
nice find. i was using an external app to get to this menu (quick sync).
Is there a way to change the sync period? I'd like to load up some older messages onto my device.

When you are in the gmail app main screen you need to click your email address that is listed in the top right. From there you just follow the remainder of his steps posted above.

ah got it - thanks
Thank you thank you. I was worried it couldn't be done. I'm happy to be syncing gmail.
Is there any way to get the notification to show up? I get new mail but don't know it.
Have you enabled them in the gmail settings? Are you using an alternative launcher? I can see them using ADW.

Thanks for pointing this out. I knew I had seen the option before, but I couldn't remember where it was buried in the menus.
I used AnyCut to make a shortcut to Accounts & Sync. That gives me access to the settings to choose what I want to sync (reader, docs, contacts, mail, etc).
Ive just got my RAZR this afternoon, and the phone has taken it upon itself to populate the contacts app with everybody from my Facebook profile. Is there a way to remove them from contacts, and just have the people I actually call or text in there?
In Contacts
1. Press Menu
2. Select "Display options"
3. Enter "Facebook"
4. Uncheck it
Brilliant! Thanks a lot

menu -> contacts to display -> custom -> tick whatever you want.
Go to your contacts. Hit your menu button. Then contacts to display. Should be good from here.

by doing that, you will only not display the contacts, but they will show up anyways when you do a search within contacts,
is there a way to not sync "other contacts" group in ICS?
setting doesn't stick
contacts to display resets when you exit and go back in. is there any way to make that setting stick?
thanks

Googled a bit and found this solution which worked for me
First, press menu and go to "settings" - click on "Accounts & snyc" - uncheck "background sync" - now use your back key to get back to the screen where you saw "Accounts & snyc" and then click on "Applications"
Locate "Contacts Storage" - if you can't find "Contacts Storage", click menu again and select filter, then select all - open the "Contact Storage" and click "clear data" of "Contacts Storage"
Get back to the first step above and recheck "background snyc" -it will start to snyc and take anywhere from 2 minutes to 15 minutes.
Good luck mate
