Hi,
I need to get my hero back to stock everything so i can send it back for repair. The only thing is its the usb connection that does not work so i can't use the RUU.
Does anyone have the update packages for the stock roms, loaders, radio, recorvery and whatever else i need to get it back to factory settings.
I was thinking if i can have the updates, copy them to SD card and then update them will that work??? Hangon just had a thought, i need to recovery image to load roms in the first place so how can i restore this without my usb connection..
Hmmm, a challange for someone perhaps?

Hmm shouldn't this be in general really?
Well assuming you can home+power to start and get to a recovery image with a stock ROM from the stickies you should be able to flash with that....

I have a rooted Tbolt and the platic surrounding the pins in the USB port has broken off. One of the pins bent so my computer won't recognize my phone when connected. Still charges if I plug in carefully, but no data connection. Verizon is sending out a warranty replacement but I'd like to return the phone to stock in case they power up the phone - don't want the fact that I rooted to void the warranty. Any suggestion on how I can return to stock unrooted? Have not installed a custom ROM or kernel at this point, just rooted using dbzfanatic's EasyRoot + S-off program.
Download this on your phone, put in on root of SD card, rename to PG05IMG and flash it from recovery menu.

Thanks for the reply. Quick question - if I reboot into recovery using CWM and select wipe data/factory reset, will this accomplish what I'm looking for? Will that have any effect on the backups on my SDcard? Sorry if these are n00b questions, but this is my first android device.
You don't need to boot into cwr, you can just boot into the default system recovery menu and flash the file directly from there.
Files on the sd card will not be effected.

You may also be able to use Wireless ADB (on the market). Don't think you need it, but just in case - thought I would throw it in there.

you dont flash that file in the stock recovery either, its done from the bootloader.
If things get a little hairy, I suggest a +1 for ADB over Wireless.
I have a loose USB port on my phone, making it very hard to get a reliable connection between the phone and a PC. It still charges, although it's usually very slow to charge as well. Problem is, I've got CM7 and clockworkmod recovery running. I have a backup of my stock ROM which I could go back to, but I don't think that's sufficient for warranty repair. Is there a way to do the necessary ODIN/heimdall steps via WiFi (for flashing the stock image), or on the phone itself via a terminal emulator? If it's something that increments the flash counter, I have a jig that works if I apply pressure to it correctly (for now...again, loose USB port), so I can reset that back after. If I understand correctly, I basically just need a way to flash the stock recovery, and possibly flash the kernel back to unrooted, without USB.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

You should flash back to your stock ROM backup first. Then, go on the market and download mobile Odin pro. With this app, you can flash kernels and stuff. Then you should download the stock kernel, and flash it to bring your phone back to Stock.

Thanks to the both of you. I've managed to get everything back to stock, and migrated to a replacement device. All that's left is to stick the phone with a bum USB port in the mail.

Hello,
I broke my SII screen, I can not unlock it or see anything anymore. Obvioulsly, I'd like to access to internal storage *but* I did not activate USB debugging, or install any custom rom.
I manage to got to the device with adb, but as the phone is not rooted, I did not manage to mount internal storage in order to pull files from my phone. I also try Kied but I need to unlock the phone to access files.
I search the web and xda but I did not found a working solution (maybe my keywords were wrong).
Does someone has a solution ? For instance, a way just to be root easily on the phone in order to mount Internal storage ? Any other id ?

PS: I do not want to change the screen as the price for the screen is too high. I do not have access to another SII phone in order to plug its screen on my mother board.
Flash a custom kernel/root the phone/get CWM, then find someone who uses the version of CWM that comes with that kernel to walk you through doing a nandroid backup (how many button presses to get through menus, etc) ?

Thank you for your answer. I'd like to install CWM but is it possible without putting the phone in debug mode ? How can I put the file on the phone as I can not mount storage under adb ?

You can flash a custom kernel via Odin (like Siyah) in download mode, the file you're flashing is on your PC, not on the phone, and this will root your phone and install CWM at the same time. All you need to know beforehand is what Android version you currently have on the phone so you choose the right build to flash, otherwise you'll end up with bootloop.
Search for the Siyah threads on here & read to work out which build you need to flash.

Thank you again. Will try to get in download mode (more difficult than recovery as I need to validate at some moment without screen, adb do no want to do it as the phone is not rooted).
One last question: will it erase the internal storage or not?

If you have problems getting into DL mode, order a jig, or try the thread in General section where people have offered to lend their jigs to people nearby; might be someone near you who has one (not sure if the thread is still updated, but worth a look).
No, flashing a custom kernel will only do exactly that, replace your stock kernel with the custom kernel & your stock recovery with CWM, nothing else is touched.
Edit - The end result of this will be a nandroid backup, and you'll still have to get your data out of that. The easiest possible way will be to find someone else with an S2, restore your backup to their phone, get your data, and then have that person restore their setup. You can pull data from a nandroid (with just a PC), but it can be a bit fiddly if you've never done it before. We'll cross that bridge once you actually have a backup though.

I have a Galaxy S3, GT-I9300 with the default, non-rooted 4.3 Jelly Bean.
I saw a custom TouchWiz Galaxy S5 4.4 KitKat ROM thread and I immediately wanted to download it, but Im afraid in case I dont like it, I will have no way to get back to my old OS, so the question I want to ask is: Is there any kind of full system backup without root, or if not, is there a way to root it, backup, install the rom, and if I dont like it, reinstall the default one and unroot so I dont void warranty? You'll be able to go back.
I recommend backing up all your contacts, call logs, texts, apps, etc with a backup app like Go Backup, or something similar, then making sure that folder and your internal storage is copied to a PC or somewhere safe. Then you put the rom on your phone, install a custom recovery via Odin, reboot directly to recovery before it reboots to the OS (otherwise the stock system will replace the recovery with the original one and you'll have to do it again) and do a full backup of the OS and data (called a nandroid backup), then follow the install directions for the rom provided by the developer. Typically it's factory reset then install, but in some cases you will need to also wipe the system. Check the thread to see if they recommend using a different modem as many updates need the right one to make sure you have the best connection, GPS, etc.

Sorry but I lost you when you talked about installing a custom recovery via Odin and until you talked about a nandroid backup. I've installed custom ROMs on my old Galaxy Gio so Im fairly familiar with how to installing ROMs and rooting, what I dont understand is:
The part i said you lost me
How to boot into that blue and black menu (In gio it was sleep+home buttons, and in this one i dont know)

Now I'm confused...how did you flash roms and do nandroid backups on the Galaxy Gio if not via a custom recovery?

I remember vaguely that I rooted it with some zip, installed cwm recovery but before that, i only backuped SMS, CONTACTS, CALL LOGS AND APPS, not the system, thus dictating that if I wanted to go back i needed a custom rom to install. I didnt make a backup copy of the system, just the ones I said above. In this one I want to make a complete backup, preferably before I rooted it so I could go back without voiding warranty. Can't back up the whole system without a custom recovery. Only the stuff you previously mentioned and some other stuff like wifi/BT connections, wallpapers, ringtones, etc.
As far as recovery, it is accessed via Home+Vol Up+Power and Download Mode is accessed by Home+Volume Down+Power.

Ok so, then I have to root it, install cwm and download the rom and install in cwm.
Suggestions on where to find the root zip file and app to backup the whole system after I root it?
If you dont mind or can help with it, a step by step on how to root it, back everything up and preparing for install would be much appreciated as im rusty from messing around with that stuff

You don't need to root to perform a nandroid backup, just have to install a custom recovery via Odin and boot to it before the system reboots as it will overwrite the custom recovery. But I already gave you a link with all the info you'll need to root, recovery, and custom rom your phone. And as I mentioned, you need to look at the Stickies in the section for your phone here on xda. I don't like to help those that don't want to help themselves first.
