OK, I'm in a bit of an unsure situation here.
My phone initially had 0.62 firmware and I downgraded to 0.58 because I thought I needed that to get root access, unlock the bootloader and install custom ROMS. However now I find out that I didn't have to do that, I think I read an old tutorial
I believe I have unlocked the bootloader already, but I'm not sure. The configuration status says that bootloader is able to be unlocked. I did the process earlier but it gave no confirmation messages. I am not going to try and upgrade to 0.62 because I do not want to brick the phone with an unlocked bootloader.
How can I check that my bootloader is in fact locked? Or can I still keep 0.58 and install a custom ROM?
My goal only really is to get root access, install a stable custom ROM and delete the irritating stock programs and other bull**** bundled with the phone. Any other bonuses like overclocking is extra but not really necessary.
U can check bootloader status in service menu.i dont knw code to enter in it.try search

No...that's not it, that only tells you if your phone is capable of having the bootloader unlocked. That doesn't say anything about whether it is or not.

Try to flash custom kernel.
If kernel is flashed and it boots it means you have unlocked bootloader if flashing fails you have locked bootloader.
Thanks for the response. I tried this now and it said it failed because it's already unlocked. OK, so I guess that's done.
I put in some custom Kernel, I think it was RAGE or something.
I wish to now put in a custom ROM.
Please help me understand which one to use. I want something that's stable and used by the majority. I only really want to be able to have root access and delete unnecessary programs, although any bonus features would be great.
I have downloaded HYBROM but as of yet still haven't tried installing it as I'm not sure how compatible it is. Any advice?
It does not matter now, I installed CyanogenMod, thanks for the responses.

Some little help so I don't need to create another topic.
I'm trying to unlock the bootloader of a LWW but it seems the PC doesn't identify the phone in fastboot properly.
The phone turns the blue light. I've tried to reinstall the flash/fast drivers already.
Any help?
Were those fastboot drivers installed properly the first time around? Are you sure they are installed?
I'm not too sure what you mean by the PC doesn't recognise it, if you have a flashing tool that should recognise it but the Windows OS may not necessarily recognise the phone connected in flash mode. I know when I first connected, nothing actually happened and I had to go into device manager and manual point to the required drivers, when that was done I was able to proceed.
Try using this tutorial:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LRH3pC7MhEA
Doesn't matter if you've got fastboot.exe elsewhere in the computer, just download the given files and put them into a folder on the desktop, do exactly what he does and you should be able to get it up and running.
Open dialpad and enter *#*#service#*#*#
You have reached service menue. Choose service info and then configuration. Scroll down and look at the rooting status.
If there is bootloader unlocked: yes
then you have an unlocked bootloader, otherwise not.

stock kernel for unlocked bootloader from DoomLord.
EDIT :
When I try to use this tool to restore bootloader, I'm unable to boot on my phone.
Then I try to reflash stock firmware again with Flashtool. Now, it able to boot on.
Maybe this tool cannot be used on Stock Kernel provided by DoomLord.
Flash the kernel from SE 2.3 FW. You will be able to get back to regular "Sony Ericsson" boot.

Is there any method which tell you exactly about bootloader either it's locked or unlocked? I am asking this question because I run @9Lucas5 method and than I restored Thejap Rom. After the restore, I got Xperia bootanimation (first) SE animation and finally Thejap boot animation. Yesterday, I install Thejap new version and now SE bootanimation is disappeared and I have Xperia and Thjap BA. Phone with excellent deep sleep (85%) and great battery life. (which is reported by many unlocked BL user very bad) Now if I want to go back by this method what will happended when I don't know my phone's BL is LOCKED or UNLOCKED.
VERY SIMPLE WAY TO FIND IF U HAVE LOCKED/UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER
DOWNLOAD THE S1TOOL pc application from 1st post
do the following:

}
click on Identify
Connect device in FLASH MODE
check output
check the marked strings
if the strings begin with "r" (lower case) then bootloader is UNLOCKED
if the strings begin with "R" (upper case) then bootloader is LOCKED
Curious... Are you the same the_laser that makes SEtool and LGtool? If so, you are certainly awesome
Edit.
Wow, my sig is waaaaaaaay out of date!
Also would the same rule apply when identifying in setool? r for unlocked, R for locked? Got an x10 that identifies loader as DEAD, just wondering if there's any hope for it or is that the funniest most accurate piece of code ever?
I'm fairly new to xda and android and i would like to root my atrix and install cwm.
Can someone give me a link to the easiest way to root the atrix that works with 2.3.4?
And also, by using any of the rooting methods will I lose any data at all on my phone(like contacts, pictures, apps, etc.)?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1255548
rooting won't cause you to lose data, but unlocking the bootloader will put you in a stock state.
THANKS!
thank you so much for that link!
I just rooted it and it was super easy. I was kind of intimidated by the complicated steps that I saw over on another website.
Thanks again!
I just need help installing cwm now, and honestly, i have no idea where to start.

you have to unlock your bootloader before you can get CWM on a motorola atrix, unfortunately. to do so, you'll need to flash pudding from the development section and run the fastboot oem unlock script in fastboot mode
after that, you can fastboot flash a recovery. you'll get into CWM by booting up into recovery mode, the same way you boot into fastboot mode or RSD mode.
installing a theme won't wipe your data, no. and for your other question, that isn't CWM recovery; it will look more like this: http://www.theandroidsoul.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/ClockworkMod-Recovery-31.png
Fruit cakes and CWM question
I have a similar question.

However, he says to add ROM Racer's CWM and 2 Fruitcakes/
What are Fruit Cakes? What do they do?
Yes, applying a rom wipes your phone, but you can back up all youre contacts a and data and apps with things like titanium backup and my backup pro. After flashing a rom you can restore your apps and data. hope this helps.

Fruitcakes allow you to get your phone back to "stock" via CWM, instead of having to flash an sbf. If you have an official update of GB on your phone, with an unlocked bootloader, you can brick your phone by trying to flash a pre-GB sbf. Read that thread and you'll get a much better understanding of why they are a very good thing.
Simply put, they are a safe way to get your phone back to out-of-box condition, but with an unlocked BL.
this is an excellent tutorial video on how to unlock your boot loader he even shows you how to re lock it, even though i haven't re locked it.

Hello,
First thing I did when I got my phone before even playing with it was unlock the bootloader in fear I would not be able to later on (was so tempting to have the file and not actually unlock it, so i did). Afterwards I realized i did not run the OTA first and i am on firmware 1.26. I am seeing some blurbs here and there with people stating that in order to update the firmware you need to relock your bootloader and than do the OTA, it is not something that would get done by installing a new rom. I am new to HTC, had the nexus before this and everything could not have been easier. Just want to see if I am understanding this correctly, and would it be wise of me to relock my bootloader and than do the ota and than re unlock.
thanks for your help!

I'm fairly certain that isn't true. You just need to wait for someone to post the stock update "rom".
What is the most current firmware?
I did a software update and found nothing earlier today. I'm on 1.26.502.10
I remember seeing in the at&t forums that people were getting an OTA right off the bat, and in the international they have 1.29.401.12.. but maybe I am just being paranoid? I am on same firmware as you.
I'm not worried about it too much. I'm sure to have a custom ROM on this thing sooner rather than later.

I stand corrected. But the way I see it - if you unlocked the BL, you can back it up, then relock it, flash it, and then restore everything.

Why not flash a custom rom now from the international forum? Or just flash stock international rom?
Something in android revolution thread stated that if u have a different firmware version than what they are using u need to wipe data through aroma.. which i understand.. just was curious about running the most up to date firmware and such.. but if that's just for international. Than no biggie. Plan on flashing this afternoon!

Hello!
I am going to root my honor 7, but i have some clarification questions first. Hopefully someone could kindly help me.
So, this is the procedure:
Unlock Bootloader
Flash TWRP Recovery
Install SuperSu from TWRP
My questions are:
1 - Is there a way to check if the bootloader is just unlocked on the H7? (I remember the "hidden menu" from Xperias)
2 - If i want to update to MM when it will be released, i need to unroot B170 (is it enough to select "Unroot" from SuperSU app?) and flash stock recovery. Is this enough?
3 - why should i need the stock boot.img? What is it exactly? Is it the bootloader? Flashing stock boot.img back does it mean that simply the bootloader will be locked again?
Thanks so much for the clarifications!

1 - I do not wish to check it now, but I remember if you reboot into bootloader there is a text indicating the status
2 - You need to have an unmodified system (and boot) for the OTA to work, so it could be safer to restore stock system.img and boot.img completely.
3 - I don't really know, hopefully somebody else will be able to answer. Last time I did an unroot+OTA upgrade, I did not have to restore stock boot.img.

the boot.img contains the kernel, and this is sometimes modief during a system update, and different version dont wpork on a certain firmware
for example, b140 and b170 use same kernel, as the on-or kernel by @sminki works (almost, but probably) fine, whoever, for what i know, it doesnt work on b121, because the kernel is different,
the latest full firmware is b121, so to downgrade or to unbrick, you need to install b121, so the boot.img also needs to be flashed, if you want it to boot
i hope that will explain it better
also to root, you can use the multitool by @inside!out, if you are not confident, or just too lazy:

What about the bootloader? if i want to update via emui do i have to RE-lock it?
or maybe it will be re-locked automatically when reflashing stock boot.img?
last question, if i am rooted and unlocked, will i at least recieve the updates notification via emui?
thanks a lot. i am trying to study and get better "skilled" about android.
So I tried installing a custom ROM on my Realme 6 a while ago and it didn't work out so I had to flash my phone with the stock ROM, after doing so, after every restart I get a boot message:
Orange State: Your device has been unlocked and can’t be trusted…Your device will boot in 5 seconds
The phone still boots alright but I cannot use google pay or specific services as it says that the phone cant be trusted.
Does anyone know of this and how to fix it? quite a frustration not being able to use my phone for paying anymore.
edit: i read that relocking the phone fixes it but i also read that you may hardbrick your phone. kinda lost.

You unlocked the bootloader, you need to re-lock the bootloader, that is what the "device can't be trusted" message means.
Find a guide on the internet or a thread here that discusses unlocking/locking the bootloader on your specific model number, if other people with your exact model have re-locked their bootloader without bricking their device, follow the same instructions/steps exactly the way they did and you shouldn't have to worry about bricking the device if you carefully follow instructions to the letter.
If you already searched and found the solution, why did you come here to ask? It isn't like their is an alternative solution that can be found here. Lock your bootloader, that's it.
I found guides but wanted to make sure, anyway, I typed reboot bootloader command, and my phone restarts and is stuck with a message
