Aweful Experience with Sony S, finally Sold & Moving to XPERIA TABLET/NEXUS7 - Sony Tablet S

Goodbye guys!!
This is my last thread in this forum.
Could not handle it more, still wifi DC issue, screen flickering, apps disappearing, lag.
These FEATURES cannot be s part of premium product !!!
I just purchased iPad for my wife and now will wait for another GOOD android tablet.
This is NOT hate thread, its just I was expecting much from SONY.
I have already created a THREAD FOR CONFIRM ISSUES, Sony admitted these issues as wll, but till date NO SOLUTION !!

Lol, your loss. I dont really think this thread is necessary.

You where singing it's praises not that long ago.
My bro has an "Ipad 3" and the weight of the thing was terrible. I couldn't believe how heavy it was.
I have tested ALOT of tablets on the market, I stand by what I say that this is the best.

I don't think there is a better tablet on the market than the tablet s. More fool you for buying into apples rediculous advertising.

My condolences for your tablet s but I don't have any of those problems you mentioned and they are not bugs, you are only being unlucky or you don't handle it well by rooting it?

I don't know where u got the bug or lags or apps getting disappeared.
I have none of the problems. I have more than 30 apps installed and none of them ever disappeared. No flickering issue, only the wifi disconnects when idle and screen locked.
Regarding lags, I use Photoshop touch and its smooth, N.O.V.A.3 runs smooth, gunman clive is good on this tablet too.
Anyway I am on official ICS (no root)
Maybe u should have tried using it without root cuz I agree on all the comments above that THIS IS the BEST TABLET I EVER USED (even without root)

Have u ever used YOUTUBE, you will see the flicker

No, there isn't any:good:

No flicker for me either, I run ps1 and N64 emulators all the time on mine and never get any lag whatsoever. Plus I am rooted on ics
Sent from my HTC Desire Z using Tapatalk 2.0

The flickering issue is known, and I had it in the beginning (more often), but I believe that it's because there are too many applications open. You can say that it's a bug, ok but in the other hand it's a way to have better control on the open application that we can't handle working and are consuming battery. This just keeps us more alert.
The other issues my opinion is that they occur because you have probably one (or several) applications that are causing that...
In the last couple of days my tablet is taking to long to start and load my external sd card, I have to check what application is causing this (OS) or if it's a problem with the SD card. This is not a SONY S issue.

see this THREAD for confirm issues, this has been reported to SONY and no solution yet.

I got problems with ICS (US) on SG tab mainly battery drain, only to realise that the tab auto on itself when in sleep mode.
Revert to ICS (SG) and it works damn well esp the default browser. Used to use Dolphin HD but with ICS, the default browser got to be one of the best/fastest I've used on Android. Also when I'm on ICS (US), the native apps for movies and music can't read from SD card whereas under ICS (SG), they read it just fine.
No problem so far and I'm happy with this tab. Maybe gonna get myself the Galaxy Tab 2 or Nexus 7 for a smaller unit.

MODERATOR. please can we get this pointless thread closed and deleted.

I know its hard to believe but the fact is that Sony Tablet S is a failure.
Just the no. Of people selling Sony S and hardly any buyers!!!
I will be buying google nexus 7 and will be selling my sony S, any buyers

I must agree with you too.
I too, 'am experiencing several issues after the recent ICS update, almost identical issues as yours.
Whether certain tablets in a batch are affected, I don't know, but, I'm getting piddled off too.
It seems many many people have no issues at all and are very happy, I can't understand that.
Before ICS update, I loved my Sony tablet, and, still use it, but, it's not the pleasent experience it once was!
My opinion of course .....................

[Q] Is it xperia s worth the buy?

Hello,
I just want to get the opinions of all xperia users who would like to take the time to answer my question.
I currently have a samsung galaxy note and i stumbled across the xperia s via the smartwatcha and smart wireless headset pro (i have this ocd-ish problem where all of my gadgets need to have one brand primarily) and i was wondering what are the community's take on the phone?
I'll primarily be using it as a secondary phone if not become primarily as soon as i get tired of lugging my big ass Galaxy Note around.
There is just something alluring about its sharp minimalistic style not to mention having a hd bravia tv in the palm of my hand.
Anyways, back to my question: what are your general opinions of the phone? Good or bad i'd like to hear them all.
Its a good phone, I love the screen and the processor seems fast enough. My gripes with it are, I am not sure about the button placement. Also I am not a fan of the usb flap cover. The light bar is awesomeness though.
It's awesome. That's all.

It would be a great phone if it wasnt for that damn yellow tint!!
I love the phone
There's a few more threads about people on the fence with this phone around here somewhere. I imagine it may feel tiny though after lugging around a note .

i had sgs2
now i have XS
worth it ? yep
I came from a note as well although mine died
I love this phone, my only gripe is the lack of developers here on xda, most devs seem to goto Samsung or HTC. I actually don't know if that's a good or bad thing because Sony's UI is fantastic and so is the whole experience so rooting the phone isn't really worth it at this stage for me, whereas with the note I was flashing every other day and that wasn't necessarily a good thing.
I miss the big screen of the note but I sure don't miss the SAMOLED display and the bad placement of those capacitive buttons and also the power button. The other real bad thing I noticed when I came to the xperia was how badly the note handled itself under sunlight I could never make out what was displayed and had to use my other hand as shade which didn't improve it much and also adding to the already difficult handling. With the Sony there is zero problems under sunlight I was amazed. I've held the Sony directly in sunlight and still can see the screen at around 80% vision comparing to the notes 10% vision.
I paid 800AUD for the note in November and I just paid 420AUD for the xperia s just after they got released and personally it outperforms it in software and hardware.
Sony feels expensive in the hands yet its cheap, Samsung feels cheap yet its expensive.
Oh yeh one other thing I really hate is the flap covers for the USB I could understand if the phone lasted a week without charge but when you charge everyday its pointless and frustrating.

it's an amazing phone...
but in my case i a little bit disapointed because i can't root it (yet, i hope) and i can't unlock the bootloader
I love this phone. Best android phone I have used or seen. The button placement does take a little getting used to but this phone rocks otherwise. Smooth, fast and to me looks better than any other android phone.

The Xperia S is a new phone, just give it some time and more devs will come to make roms and add-ons Most of them are just waiting for the ICS update I think
But the phone is really great Also love the fact Sony will give us 4.0.4 probably instead of 4.0.3 like most devices
Considering XperiaS to be my first dual core smartphone, it does its job pretty well. Superfast processing, loads of RAM,great camera on a phone.. Unlocked Bootloader on mine.. And ICS not that far away.. What more would you want?

One thing that concerns me is lack of light sensor... How do you guys manage to live without auto-brightness? (Serious question, my last 4 Androids had one)

Well its a simple answer....
We don't.
Its enabled by default
A lot of people think its not there but it is and works just fine. It just doesn't adjust drastically, its more of like using a dimmer switch.

It works just as any auto-adjust, it just isn't as drastic when it adjusts ( more adjusts in phases than the 'low light > omg my eyes!'). It adjusts how it should at night, and outside (even in the sun) it is the most visible and clear I have ever seen in a touchscreen phone, the clarity is really impressive.
I don't know why, but I guess since most people use the auto setting, they removed it? I dunno, but you can still disable it with a widget anyways, so it doesn't really matter

Worried Whether i should buy this phone or go with galaxy s2

Hi, please pardon my bad English.
I really like the looks of this phone, hardware on paper looks pretty good as well, but after reading few posts here on xda it looks like phone is very slow with lots of bugs and choppy UI, on top it seems ICS update has made it worst.
It has got me worried whether i should buy it or not. I can't afford to make mistake as i will be using this phone for next 2-3 years. Please help me figure out!
So, I have few questions please answer them.
Q.1 Is this phone really slow with choppy UI?
Q.2 Does this phone have any hardware related bugs? (I've heard menu, home and back keys are not so responsive.)
Q.3 How much ram is available to user? (After gpu etc. taking its share)
Q.4 How much space is available to user for installing apps?
Q.5 How's gaming on it?
Q 6 Is ICS update an improvement of deterioration.
Q.7 How's video playback? Does it play divx/xvid?
I'm really sorry for asking so many questions but it will certainly help me decide. Thank you very much for your time.

Don't worry, I was in the exact same position as you. I was torn between buying sony X S and S2.
Before I reply I must tell you that internet reviews/forum posts don't mean much. You have to go to a store and hold the actual working phone in your hand to get the real feel.
I really wanted to buy S2 because it was cheaper than SXS by about 4000 INR back in April. But once I held the Sony SXS in my hand and looked at the superb display, my mind was made up on buying SXS.
Q.1 Is this phone really slow with choppy UI?
Nope, I am running stock ICS 4.0.4 works perfect.
Q.2 Does this phone have any hardware related bugs? (I've heard menu, home and back keys are not so responsive.)
Again untrue. The menu keys etc are fine, once you get used to them they will never annoy you. But you really should go to a shop and see it for your self.
Q.3 How much ram is available to user? (After gpu etc. taking its share)
After installing about 50 or so apps plus keeping GPRS data on most of the time I have about 225-150MB ram available. But remember that this is not a windows OS, so you don't need free unused ram.
Q.4 How much space is available to user for installing apps?
more than 25GB on internal memory + ~2 GB on phone memory
Q.5 How's gaming on it?
I play riptide which has 3d graphics and can push the hardware to the limit, never had any problems.
Q 6 Is ICS update an improvement of deterioration.
Definitely an improvement over GB in a lot of areas. The UI on SXS is much better than touchwiz provided by samsung.
Q.7 How's video playback? Does it play divx/xvid?
I play both Xvid as well as x264 encoded MP4s without any problems on the stock video player.
Lastly: samsung has been fooling Indian consumers by selling 9100G model which is technically inferior to 9100. so beware before buying.
Thanks a lot, your reply is a big help. I will checkout Xperia S at Sony showroom tomorrow.
One last question if you don't mind.
Have you ever experienced stuttering music playback while using maps or any other hardware intense app?
(Someone mentioned something about stuttering music playback when Bluetooth or GPS is enabled.)

S3 is unfortunately out of my budget.
No comparison really IMO. The XS screen alone will make you forget Galaxy SII. Even the Galaxy SIII screen is inferior to XS screen.
I'm very happy with my SxS, I still have it running on GB, I'll wait for the next ICS update-cycle before upgrading (or perhaps that will immediately be Jelly Bean).
But on GB, this is by far the best phone I've had or seen by friends/co-workers. There is also nothing in the ICS update I particulary want or need and I haven't seen (or wanted to use) any apps that require ICS yet.
I have seen the Galaxy S2, but it does have a lot of bugs in the GB Rom. Not sure about the ICS Roms. So I would definately go for the Xperia S. Also Sony support is really good, they read their own forums and really do fix their bugs, imho. Not saying Samsung doesn't, but for example LG is really crap in this area.
Despite of having some doubts i am going for SXS. Let's just hope for the best.
Thanks for your help guys!

I have stuttery music playback on GB and that can be if I've simply got a browser open in background.
To OP, my advice would be to get the SGSII because, in my experience, this phone hasn't lived up to expectations whatsoever. It might be because I got the phone so early after it was released, but then again it might not be.
Obviously the choice is yours, but I'll put it simply.
If you want a better spec phone with better graphics for gaming, video playback etc, then go for the Xperia S. If you want a great reliable phone to last over the 2-3 years, then the SGSII is your best option

My experience has been great with the Xperia S. I recently sent back a Galaxy Nexus because of the poor samsung build quality. I would never buy a Samsung except maybe a galaxy 3. But it is too expensive and still not worth it. Sorry but the Galaxy S 2 is not even a comparison to the Xperia s.

For general usage, my experience with the phone has been great and I can't fault it. It's just when it comes to being a heavy duty user, that it just isn't capable of working to the extent it should.
It also depends on how long ago you got your SXS because I got mine on the 2nd day of release in the UK, whereas if I was to have only got it over the last couple of weeks, I probably wouldn't be having these problems with it.

I would consider myself a heavy user and it has been really good so far. My buddy had a Galaxy S2 and had nothing but problems. The S can only get better too, because Sony has been release updates for it pretty quickly. If anything the op should consider a Galaxy Nexus or the Xperia S. Galaxy S2 is terrible.

Hey,
I've been using my Xperia Acro S for about 10 days now, i've used the Galaxy S 3, S2, HTC One X and Defy before this.
The first thing i did when i got the Xperia Acro S was put it in a tub filled with about 50CM of water, left it there for about a minute, when i took it out everything worked fine, just be sure to close all the connection ports before you try this.
The phone's performance is pretty much on par with the Galaxy S 2, i haven't noticed any lag in using the device, sometimes it becomes laggy but that's because i have many apps open in the background so i assume that's normal.
I've played The Dark Knight Rises and it was completely lag free, the graphics were great.
I've also played Dead Trigger without any issues, great graphics as well.
When i compare it directly with the Motorola Defy it's quite a big step up,
The performance improvement is noticable.
Another useful feature is wet-finger tracking which allows you to use the screen with wet fingers, i remember this being a problem with my Defy.
The battery life for me is ok. I usually manage to get about 3 hours screen on time, this is with 5 active e-mails push syncing, using 3-4 apps like WhatsApp, Bluetooth on all day (connected for half the day). Wi-Fi on all the time, brightness set to max.
The camera is very satisfactory for me, it has nice features like panorama, smile detection etc and the quality is better than the 8MP camera's from the other high-end phones.
The only thing that slightly bothered me was that the phone's NFC doesn't seem to be on par with other higher end devices,
Basically i have to press the NFC card on the back of the phone and sometimes it doesn't even recognize it.
Whereas on the HTC One X and Galaxy S 3 it's sufficient to just put the NFC card a couple of CM's away from the phone and it recognizes always.
As i said, not a big problem, just saying.
All in all, i am very satisfied.
Hope this helped.
Does it feels fat? It looks fat but I want to know this from someone who has it
SGS2
I had a Galaxy S3 GT I9300, but from a week back I'm currently having a Sony Xperia Ion. Tbh, I loved Sony's UI much better and some backup & restore unbuilt facilities better than of Samsung. So yeah, being the holder of S3. I will sitll recommend you Acro S.

Hey,
I've been using my Xperia Acro S for about 10 days now, i've used the Galaxy S 3, S2, HTC One X and Defy before this.

Thank you both of you... Guess I've made my choice Just waiting for Sony to launch this baby in India!
The back of the phone heats up very fast.
And battery not that satisfied, 1.5GHz is too much for the phone.
I underclocked to 1GHz and games still run lag-free, (riptide 3D,Cordy,Cordy sky)
And when your screen is awake, and u pour water on it, the phone interface will messed up. (Water somehow acts as fingers and some dragging and long press occurs)
And u can't really dip the phone into water with screen awake, like above the screen will go crazy and no response at all.
If u awake the phone in water, u can't touch anything, but if u can turn on the camera, u can use the shutter button to take pictures. (provided ur screen doesn't messed up)
So its water resistant doesnt mean u can use ur phone underwater

Hello people, I'm a Motorola Defy user & thinking to upgrade my phone to a pretty decent one. People who own or have used the Xperia Acro S, can you please tell me hows the day to day performance? Like normal performance & whether Mid end/ High end games will run on this phone? How is the battery life of this phone? How about the camera? Or any other issues?Because I'm really interested in getting this phone ASAP. I'll be glad and thankful to you people if I get my queries answered! Thank you!

Comparing to the Defy, it's obviously a worthy upgrade. In term of battery life, it's okayish for a dual core phone. I have been playing 3D game like dead trigger with zero lag problem so I will vouch for that. Camera is superb if you know how to use it right. Sony camera is a bit different, the auto focus was kinda clumsy and you have to do it manually to get the best quality. Water proof is definely a plus. This phone can last for years before your next upgrade.

I don't think wifi-direct is supported on acro s ics version yet, at least I cannot find the options as shown on the other xperias which do support it. DLNA support only so far...

I guess there's no WiFi direct as snapdragon S3 doesn't support it..

Yes, that specs on GsmArena brought my hopes up, but now I am more inclined to think specs listed it as an error. The specs listed inside the GsmArena review page1 do not say wifi-direct.
Xperia P has wifi-direct but is not snapdragon S3. I wonder if any S3 based phone currently has wifi-direct?
Sent from my LT26w using Tapatalk 2
I guess we have to ask HTC folks for that.
But i had google it. And the page i landed too. Stated it would not.
Sent from my LT26i using xda app-developers app
My HTC Sensation has the same CPU as ACRO S and HTC support Wi-Fi Direct
Seems like wifi-direct support depends on the wireless communication chipset used, might have nothing to do with S3 or not. Could not find any high res photos or mention what chip is in 2012 xperias though...

i too currently own a motorola defy as the op, and i plan to upgrade in 1-2 months, and my definite win was acro s - until now.
im not the type to stick to stock roms, im a dedicated cyanogenmod user, and i really want a phone which runs cm10 without problem, but now i read that until sony releases a jb upgrade for the acro s, cm10 wont have camera and the battery drains a lot. although from what i understand cm9 is running quite decently, so i think i can stick with that. but will this always be like this, that the acro s wont be upgradeable until sony released an official build?
and i have another question:
the xperia s and xperia acro s have almost identical hardware, except the battery and the microsd extension.
and the xperia s has aosp support, and sony already released its binaries. why cant we use its binaries to fix the camera and the battery drain? or am i seriously missing something here? what are the differences between the two devices software-wise?
and i also read that cm10 is not really ready for daily use yet. is that because the high battery consumption and lack of camera, or are there other bugs?
sorry for asking this many questions, but i couldnt find any answers to this anywhere, even though i did search them first.
Quarx is missing
I might consider Xperia V
I can say that Acro S with the stock rom with all the bloatware removed is a decent device, very stable .
I personally have no issues with it. I tried all the other "stable" roms out there (MIUI and CM9.1) and I always came back to stock .
Xperia T has MHL (HDMI) and Camera working as of FXP 142 when it's released
Unreal fast phone
Go Sony, you won't regret it!

Buying sola

Hi all, I may buy the Xperia sola soon because it's very cheap bnib, 180€.
There are a few things I'd like to know before buying it, though..
1) Build quality
2) Out-of-the-box issues (had problems with the HTC One X.. ugh)
3) Screen quality
4) Camera quality (some examples would be nice)
5) Performance
6) Rootability
7) Add your own comment about the phone usage in everyday life (signal etc.)
Thanks!

As per the sticky thread in General, please post all questions here in Q&A.
Thanks

I have purchased this mobile 3 months ago and am quite satisfied with this..........
The over all build quality is great..... No problem yet with my piece........
Screen quality is also good enough for video playback and games, 720p videos plays very smooth........... One problem is that even if you turn off floating touch in settings you would even get some float touch response in games like temple run and xtreme trail....
Camera quality is also great with flash........
Overall performance is also good.....
In my opinion sound is bit low when on speakers..........
Easily rootable and bootloader can be unlocked easily using official method........
It gives me continuous video play back of around 4 hours approx..........
Many custom roms available..........

I guess you should buy an Xperia U.
I have had this phone for 2 months now and I am much more than satisfied.
The build quality is good enough for a bit of rough use and it has a good grip too. For custom roms, Xda is flowing. There is a rom which is only 76 mb and is running ICS.
Performance is spectacular because of the dual core processor. There is even a rom which over clocks this beast to 1.15 Ghz. Screen quality is good as it has high ppi. Camera quality is good, but I am disappointed by the fact that it collects a lot of noise at night. But I am still on GB. Who knows what surprises await for me in ICS? How is that for personal experience? Did I jump off the page? Did I dazzle you?
You decide. I suggest the Xperia U. Read around the forums, search Google, its an endless world. I did my part. Now, its up to you to decide. It was very long... Sorry to bore you (if you are). The keyboard is soo good that I can't stop myself. I suggest you buy the Xperia P if you are willing to spend more...

Echoing all the naysayers. Don't get it. Horrible builds. Needs to be constantly reset in order to free up the ram. Issues with touch screens on charging.
etc etc etc.
Maybe I should just upgrade mine to CM9. It seems to be faster.
But stock rom, and those roms based on stock... Horrible. Just Horrible. Not the developers fault, but more of Sony for the poor build.
Just don't go for it there will be no jellybean

Sucks man.. Don't buy sola coz its ram is too damn low... And that might be the reason for no JB. Get something with atleast 1 gig ram on it... Sgs2 for example... It has stable CM 9,10 builds., good hardware and great for development

Well, I have the One X as my main phone, plenty of power there, sola is a CHEAP phone (512 mb RAM is ok, I have the SGS1 and it runs JB just fine), I want to have it on the side as my 3rd phone to play around with and dev for a bit maybe.
So much negative comments..

Its hard to hear that sola supports end with ICS, coz Official roms makes you feel more stable,, but come on guys, we always try and stick with modified one, so if you want a phone for infinite updates, go and buy an expensive phone with more futures and support, otherwise, howcome you buy sola in first place?
The sola is more than okay compared to its price.

The problem with this phone is that it can't even do it's job as a phone properly =\
Check the general section. Lots of us have problems when calls arrive: It takes 10 seconds to switch to the caller screen to accept the call.
I've had some expectations for this phone. It's not a top tier phone, but this is quite disappointing. Looking to trade this in once my contract allows me to do so.
You can check out the general section of the forums. Lots of flame wars there regarding this phone (And Sony's phones in general). Yes, some people will love it to bits, no matter what, but I just can't when my previous phone with a quarter of the processing power was smoother and faster.

[Q] Tablet Z Successor ?

Hi there, I'm thinking of buying the Tablet Z but wonder if its worth waiting for the refresh/successor ?
The only bit of information i can find is this:

I asked Sony and was told they have no information...

Doesn't mean any more devices can't be announced.
@Zaim2012 , rumours says of a Xperia Z1 Tablet, which will be more like a refresh rather than a new device.
S800 and Triluminous screen, basically. Rest will be the same..

According to Wikipedia the xperia z was launched 1st of March (UK) - but hey, I guess that's close enough to May
Anyway, I like what they've done with the Z1. They'll probably do the same with the Tablet Z, I guess.
I was just thinking about the same matter in the other thread in the General section.
My guess is Sony already has it, but didn't show at IFA because they didn't get the software ready in time (considering that they rushed to be able to present the XZ1 with a pre-release software).
The XTZ is already on the remaining stock list at our mobile phone operator, and pretty much sold out, so they will be waiting for the XTZ1 as well. Hopefully it will have GSM voice communication in addition to IP58, Snapdragon 800 + Adreno 330, 3GB RAM and a better camera.
But well, I have time, I'll get my first two tablets (for free) not before the beginning of next year, when my two data plans are due for renewal.

I'm still unsure as to what I should do, go ahead and buy the tablet z or wait for the new one, no info on release date, price and official specs.
Can get the Tablet Z for £350.
There hasn't even been rumours of a successor has there? General wisdom is if you are always waiting for the next one to come out you're never going to have anything
Sony updates their tablets yearly, not like their phones (which are updated like every 6 months), so there wont be a new tablet til may I think (though it was announced first in japan).
I bought one a month ago and its actually pretty god for what I use it to (casual gaming, browsing, reading books, social, etc) and its the best tablet I've come up to light, thin and really really beautiful..

If you want a damned good tablet then I would go with the XTZ, especially since there aren't even any credible or half decent rumors floating around on an updated XTZ.
If it were me I wouldn't wait another 6 months to get the updated version, one reason being that even if they do update all the components you most likely won't be able to tell. The XTZ is fast as hell, the screen is FHD (even if they updated with a screen like is in the new Nexus tabs you wouldn't be able to tell the graphics were any better), everything I have thrown at it (including Arena and the extra large Daggerfall install running in Dosbox Turbo, both of the GTA games on the market, and a ****load of other resource intensive games) haven't slowed it down or caused any lag whatsoever. If you really have to have the newest processor then wait til Samsung releases their new tabs or wait on the new rumored Transformer pad to drop, just know you could be waiting 6 months or more for those to drop too.
I always craved the latest and best hardware but with the XTZ I don't have that issue anymore, it is able to withstand anything I can throw at it and then some. To me it isn't worth waiting on the next "X" tab to drop, the XTZ is and will be able to stand toe to toe with a lot of the newly released and upcoming tabs.

New tablet is slated for spring of 2014 to replace the current XTZ. That was all the info I have gotten from my contact. No specs as of yet though I would expect at least a snapdragon 800. As it stands I'm still very happy I got my XTZ. Great tablet. If I hear more on the new one I will let you all know.

@Spectre51 Cheers, Spring 2014 is still about 6 months away so its pointless waiting.
